  • Dwight Howard (laceration) out vs. Spurs
Dwight Howard has a laceration in his forearm that required stitches, and he will not suit up for Friday's preseason finale vs. the Spurs.

Advice: The cut happened from something he did at home, but he is reportedly fine, and we'd expect him to be ready for opening night. Howard attempted the fourth-most free throws in the league last year, and only made 54.7 percent of them, so if you draft him know that the free throw category is a lost cause. However, he also put up averages of 18.3 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game, so he is an attractive asset for owners punting free throws. Rotoworld.com

  • Jason Smith looks like starting PF for Knicks
Jason Smith will draw another start at power forward for the Knicks on Friday, and head coach Derek Fisher indicated that he will remain there for opening night.

Advice: Smith appears to have beat out Quincy Acy (wrist), Andre Bargnani (hamstring), and Amare Stoudemire for the starting power forward job. Fisher would like to use Amare in a sixth man role, and with Acy and Bargnani not fully healthy, Smith will get the nod with the starting unit. However, with career averages of 6.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks, Smith doesn't look like someone worth targeting in standard leagues, regardless of his role with the team. Rotoworld.com

  • Andre Bargnani (hamstring) out Friday vs. TOR
Andre Bargnani (hamstring) will not suit up for Friday's preseason finale vs. the Raptors.

Advice: Bargnani has been rather tight-lipped with providing updates on his injury, and given his extensive history with being sidelined, he's not going to be worth drafting in most leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Anthony Davis returns from wrist injury
Anthony Davis returned from his wrist injury and played 21 minutes against the Mavericks on Thursday, scoring 13 points with six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.

Advice: He dodged a bullet from his sprained wrist on Monday, but he's good to go. In his last four, Davis averaged 20.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 0.8 steals in just 24.8 minutes per game. Yes, he can fill a stat sheet and is worth taking at the top spot of your fantasy draft, assuming you're OK with taking a risk. Rotoworld.com

  • Henry Sims has some rebounding issues
Henry Sims grabbed just one rebound in 33 minutes of action against the Pistons on Thursday, adding 17 points, one assist, one steal and four turnovers.

Advice: Andrea Bargnani is jealous of Sims' rebounding rate tonight. Anyway, he's still favored to start and should have some low-end fantasy value if he can keep Arnett Moultrie at bay. Moultrie might not even make the team, so Sims is worth a look late. Rotoworld.com

  • Nerlens Noel puts up a 5x5 with fouls
Nerlens Noel put up a massive line in his preseason finale on Thursday, scoring eight points with eight rebounds, one assist, five steals, five blocks and six fouls in 30 minutes.

Advice: Well, hello. Noel had been fairly quiet in the blocks category with just 1.7 blocks per game in his previous three, but tonight was just ridiculous. On top of that, he averaged 9.3 boards per game over his last three. On the down side, he did only shoot 15-of-37 (40.5 percent) from the field and 8-of-18 (44.4 percent) from the line in the preseason. This monster game is probably going to bump up his ADP by a round or two, so you might have to pounce in the fourth round to get him. We'd probably prefer safer options for where he'll go and we'd like him a lot more in the fifth. Rotoworld.com

  • Roy Hibbert takes 14 shots against CHA
Roy Hibbert made just 5-of-14 from the field for 10 points with nine rebounds, one assist, one block and four turnovers against the Hornets.

Advice: Yes, it's an ugly shooting line and the turnovers are bad, but that's a nice usage rate, which figures to climb this season. Al Jefferson blocked him four times tonight, so the ugly line wasn't him just missing easy shots. If you miss out on blocks and are OK with an inept offensive center, Hibbert is an OK target late in your draft. Rotoworld.com

  • Luis Scola gets busy against the Hornets
Luis Scola scored 15 points with 12 rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and two turnovers against the Hornets on Thursday.

Advice: David West (ankle) is very questionable to start the year, so we should see a lot of Scola to start the season. He's never really been a consistent fantasy asset because he rarely contributes in other categories besides points and boards. Scola is more of a short-term add and we like Chris Copeland more as a late-round pick for his upside. Rotoworld.com

  • Al Jefferson blocks six shots against Indy
Al Jefferson blocked six shots in 35 minutes against the Pacers on Thursday with 15 points, seven rebounds and one steal.

Advice: He's shot the ball horribly this preseason, but who cares? Jefferson getting big minutes again is a huge positive and his ankle soreness shouldn't be a huge concern right now. However, he's had a lot of foot/ankle issues, so prospective fantasy owners shouldn't be too aggressive in targeting him. In other words, he's more of a mid-second pick with some risk. Rotoworld.com

  • Dirk Nowitzki likely out vs Pelicans Thursday
Dirk Nowitzki will likely sit out the Mavericks preseason game against the Pelicans on Thursday.

Advice: Dirk also acknowledged that the true dress rehearsal for the regular season will be the team's preseason game against the Magic on Friday. "This is my 17th year and usually the last game is the one you play almost regular minutes," he said. Dirk will be reliable fantasy option this upcoming season, but expectations should be tampered as the Mavs are hoping to implement a 'spread the wealth' approach. Rotoworld.com

  • Anderson Varejao to win starting center job
Anderson Varejao is expected to win the starting center job for the Cavaliers.

Advice: There was speculation that the team could use Tristan Thompson at center and bring Varejao off the bench, but his solid play this preseason may have all but sealed the starting spot. He continues to receive glowing endorsements from teammate Lebron James, "He’ll fight for every loose ball," James said."If any altercation happens, Andy will be right there. We just need him to stay healthy." Health once again will be key if Varejao is to stay fantasy relevant this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Kendrick Perkins (quad) practices on Thursday
Kendrick Perkins (quad) practices on Thursday.

Advice: Perk has missed training camp and the entire preseason for the Thunder due to his ailing quad. The injury has led the way for Steven Adams to assume starting center duties and it's hard to envision Perkins reclaiming that role. He should be off fantasy radars in any format. Rotoworld.com

  • Celtics waiver F Erik Murphy
    Celtics waiver F Erik Murphy.

Advice: After the release, Celtics' head coach Brad Stevens said Murphy is "intrigued plus" about joining Boston's D-League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws. He shouldn't have been on any draft lists before this news, but fantasy owners in the deepest of leagues can officially move on from Murphy. Rotoworld.com

  • Rockets waive F Josh Powell
    Rockets waive F Josh Powell.

Advice: This move comes as no surprise as the Rockets try to trim down their roster before the start of the regular season. Powell may catch on with the Rockets' D-League affiliate, the Rio Grande Vipers, but it should go without saying that he shouldn't be on any fantasy owners' draft boards. Rotoworld.com

  • Jackson says Amare Stoudemire key to success
Knicks president Phil Jackson thinks Amare Stoudemire will be the key to the team's success in 2014-15.

Advice: "One of the keys to the season will be the play of Amar'e Stoudemire," Jackson said. "Although his tender knees will require his playing time and his practice time to be carefully monitored, we hope he'll be able to play four rotations of eight minutes per game." While it's nice to hear Jackson speak highly of Stoudemire, the 32-minute cap he referenced is even better news for fantasy owners as STAT averaged just 22.6 minutes in 2013-14. The 32-year-old's best days are behind him, but he can still be a serviceable late-round flier if his minutes stay above 30 per game this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Blake Griffin accused of club altercation
Blake Griffin has been accused by a man of attacking a man during an argument over a photo in a Las Vegas nightclub last weekend.

Advice: Griffin has not been charged after a 39-year-old man filed a battery complaint with Las Vegas police saying that the Clippers' star slapped him after an argument surrounding a photo. We'll have to await more news on this situation, but it doesn't sound like anything that should preclude fantasy owners from taking Griffin in the late-first or early-second round of their fantasy drafts. • Andrea Bargnani won't reveal results of MRI
Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) divulged that he underwent an MRI, but would not reveal the results to reporters.

Advice: Bargnani admitted to reporters that he's frustrated by the injury and that he doesn't know when he'll return. This news puts the big man's availability for the regular season opener highly in doubt as it sounds like his right hamstring isn't healing as quickly as he would have hoped. With the regular season on the horizon, the former No. 1 overall pick could be in danger of losing his spot in the Knicks' rotation and isn't worth drafting in most fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 7:32 am
  • Kevin Love says he needs more inside touches
Kevin Love (neck) said he needs to remind himself to get more inside touches in order to get his game going.

Advice: As he adjusts to a new system, Love thinks he needs to play more inside-out rather than drifting beyond the arc. "Yeah, the offense is built that way, but I just have to make a conscious decision to get myself in there," Love said. "There are a lot of times where I just find myself fading to the 3-point line. For me, it's a mentality and that's easy to fix." While Love's fantasy owners should expect a dip from his 2013-14 numbers as he learns to co-exist with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, he's still worth a pick at the end of the first round. • Blake Griffin returns for 35 points
Blake Griffin came off a day of rest and racked up 35 points, seven rebounds, two steals and no blocks on 14-of-26 shooting on Wednesday.

Advice: Griffin looked great tonight, but didn't block a shot (as usual), and struggled from the line at 7-of-13. His free throw shooting really took a positive jump last season, and while this line doesn't put us in panic mode, it does give us pause. Griffin is going to be a solid late-first, or early-second round pick in all formats. Owners just have to hope tonight's free throw shooting isn't indicative of what's to come. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:46 pm
  • Spencer Hawes posts 8 & 10 in start for DJ
Spencer Hawes started for DeAndre Jordan (rest) on Wednesday and had eight points, 10 rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes.

Advice: As long as Jordan is healthy, Hawes is going to struggle to see enough minutes to make much of a fantasy dent. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:44 pm
  • Miles Plumlee goes for 8 & 8 in loss
Miles Plumlee had eight points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes on Wednesday.

Advice: His brother, Mason, is a better fantasy option while Brook Lopez is out for the Nets, but Miles has a starting job in Phoenix until further notice. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:32 pm
  • Markieff Morris struggles again in loss
Markieff Morris hit just 3-of-9 shots and no 3-pointers for 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal on Wednesday.

Advice: His preseason hasn't gone quite as we had planned, but we're still on board with Morris. Anthony Tolliver didn't do much tonight and any talk of Morris coming off the bench has been quelled. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:27 pm
  • Robert Sacre starts, Jordan Hill sits
Robert Sacre started at center for the Lakers on Wednesday and had 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists on 4-of-6 shooting.

Advice: Jordan Hill got the night off, but is locked and loaded as the starter, for now. Sacre will play off the bench, but you've got to be in a pretty deep league for him to even be on the radar. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:34 pm
  • Carlos Boozer quiet in win over 'Blazers'
Carlos Boozer hit 3-of-8 shots for eight points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 24 minutes against the Portland B-squad.

Advice: As usual, Boozer didn't block a shot, and it would have been nice to see him play better against the Blazers' bench (Damian Lillard was the only starter to play). Boozer is averaging 13.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and two steals over his last five games, but it's possible those numbers take a positive jump once the season starts. Julius Randle played well tonight, and is the biggest threat to Boozer struggling this season, but he's still worth a late draft pick in most leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:32 pm
  • Chris Kaman scores 12 vs. Lakers
Chris Kaman played through a head injury on Wednesday and hit 5-of-7 shots for 12 points, one rebound, three assists, a steal and two blocks in 23 minutes.

Advice: He started for the Blazers, who rested all their regulars except for Damian Lillard, who played just 17 minutes. Kaman played fairly well against his former team and is having a good preseason, but will likely need an injury from LaMarcus Aldridge or Robin Lopez to make a difference in fantasy. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:29 pm
  • Nikola Pekovic puts up big double-double
Nikola Pekovic put up 15 points, 13 boards, one assist, one steal and one turnover in just 19 minutes against the Bucks on Wednesday.

Advice: The Bucks can make a lot of guys look good and that was the case for Pek tonight. His minutes have been in the 15-20 range in all five preseason games and he's expected to be right at 27 this year. Considering his injury history, Pekovic is more of just a late-round flier. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 8:25 pm
  • Anderson Varejao falls back to earth Weds.
Anderson Varejao, who had 22 points and eight rebounds on Monday, hit just 1-of-4 shots for two points and one rebound in 16 minutes on Wednesday.

Advice: LeBron James wasn't on hand to spread out the floor tonight, and it showed. Varejao is going to have some big games this season, but he's a huge injury risk. He's already dealing with some knee injuries and if he goes down, Tristan Thompson will likely take over in the middle. Varejao's worth owning, as usual, but owners have to prepare themselves for him to be shut down at some point due to injury. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 7:54 pm
  • Amare Stoudemire scores 13 with 8 boards
Amare Stoudemire played 21 minutes against the Wizards on Wednesday with 13 points, eight rebounds, one assist and five turnovers.

Advice: He is not going to have a minutes restriction, but will likely rest in some back-to-back sets. Fantasy owners probably shouldn't bother and find other late-round targets. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 7:38 pm
  • Andrea Bargnani can't give straight answer
When asked if he was running, Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) wouldn't give a clear answer on Wednesday.

Advice: He said he and his doctors are working on it, so that's basically a no. What's more, he doesn't sound happy and for all we know he might not even be in the rotation. Bargnani is not worth drafting in almost any league. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 4:29 pm
  • Jason Smith starting at PF as experiment
Jason Smith will start at power forward against the Wizards on Wednesday.

Advice: It's just an experiment after Quincy Acy started the previous four games. Smith should still get some minutes at center in the rotation, but he's not a fantasy option in most leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 2:55 pm
  • Dwight Howard and Trevor Ariza out Wednesday
Dwight Howard and Trevor Ariza will not play on Wednesday night against the Magic.

Advice: Dwight won't get to face his old team in the last road game of the preseason and there has been no word of his knee injury being a factor in this decision. He should be ready to go to start the season and will look to bounce back from a mildly disappointing 2013-14. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 2:41 pm
  • Nerlens Noel probably won't start on Thurs.
Nerlens Noel (illness) is not expected to start on Thursday night.

Advice: He's been out for a week with his illness and may have his minutes limited. Noel is fully expected to start the season opener and he's going to have some ups and downs in his rookie year. Fantasy owners can target him in the middle rounds. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 11:16 am
  • Andrea Bargnani criticized on defense, drives
Knicks president Phil Jackson expects Andrea Bargnani to do well in the triangle offense, but he criticized his poor defense and predictable drives toward the hoop.

Advice: "Because he only approaches the rim in straight lines, he needs to develop some kind of change-of-direction move with the ball," Jackson said. "Also, he's a finger-roller, not a dunker. Could he have small hands? Or does he just need to be more aggressive?" His defensive weaknesses go without saying, and the fact that he's missed the preseason with hamstring issues gives fantasy owners another reason to avoid him. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:58 am
  • Miles Plumlee looks to improve as roll-man
Miles Plumlee is working to be more secure with the ball in traffic, and to anticipate passes better as a roll-man.

Advice: "You can't think that you're not going to get the pass and then, all of a sudden if someone throws it, you're not thinking about it so you're not going to catch," Hornacek said. Plumlee is hoping that improved conditioning will prevent his efficiency from flagging, as it did last season, but he's a marginal fantasy option with Alex Len (finger) as an imminent threat to his playing time. • Chris Kaman bitten, tested for concussion
Chris Kaman received three stitches on his head after being accidentally bitten by Nuggets C Timofey Mozgov.

Advice: Kaman said he felt "pretty good" after the game, but the Blazers tested him for a concussion and he's uncertain to play on Wednesday. He isn't holding the bizarre incident against Mozgov, either. "I went back pretty hard and I must've hit him in the chest," Kaman said. "He kind of folded over and his teeth went down on my head." Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 6:14 am
  • Justin Hamilton likely for Friday
Justin Hamilton, who has been out for the Heat with a heart issue, is expected to play on Friday.

Advice: He's not going to have a big role with the Heat, but he's been out for the preseason with the ailment. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 11:37 pm
  • Spencer Hawes starts, has a bit of everything
Spencer Hawes had 14 points and seven rebounds in a start at PF on Tuesday, with Blake Griffin resting as a precaution.

Advice: Hawes chipped in two steals, one block and one 3-pointer in just 28 minutes, highlighting his unique skill-set for a seven-footer. He was a top-50 player in just 31 minutes last season, and shouldn't see fewer than 25 per game backing up Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, so don't be afraid to grab him in the final rounds. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 10:29 pm
  • Markieff Morris shoots 3-of-10 for seven pts
Markieff Morris struggled in 27 minutes vs. the Lakers, shooting 3-of-10 from the field for seven points, four rebounds and two assists.

Advice: He chipped in one 3-pointer and one steal, and he has plenty of upside thanks to his statistical versatility and a guaranteed starting job. Don't let a few quiet preseason games fool you -- Kieff is poised for a big season. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 10:01 pm
  • Roy Hibbert plays well vs. Wolves
Roy Hibbert hit 5-of-10 shots for 14 points, nine rebounds, two steals and three blocks in 28 minutes on Tuesday.

Advice: Hibbert looked good tonight and actually made half his shots. The Pacers need him to play like this on a nightly basis, and it's possible he's setting up for a bounce-back campaign this season. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 7:31 pm
  • Blake Griffin, CP3 get the night off
Blake Griffin and Chris Paul will both be rested on Tuesday night.

Advice: Nothing to see here, folks. It's simply a preseason day off. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 6:10 pm
  • Chris Kaman playing well off Blazers bench
Chris Kaman is averaging 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in his four games off the bench for Portland this preseason.

Advice: If you're in a deep league that requires you starting two centers, Kaman may be worth a look at the end of your draft. And if Robin Lopez or LaMarcus Aldridge go down at some point, he'll become a must-own player. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 5:04 pm
  • Al Jefferson rests w/ left ankle soreness
Al Jefferson rested on Monday in part due to left ankle soreness.

Advice: Although this doesn't sound serious, it's an ominous report considering the early months of his 2013-14 season were plagued by a sprained right ankle. Jefferson's health is essential for the Hornets' chances of building on last year's playoff run and they'll be extra cautious with their 289-pound center, but at the moment there are zero indications that he's in danger of missing the season opener. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 12:16 pm
  • Nerlens Noel (illness) back at practice Tues.
Nerlens Noel (illness) returned to practice on Tuesday and he will be available for Thursday's preseason finale.

Advice: Noel battled an upper respiratory infection for nearly a week but seems to have recovered, and he said he didn't lose any weight due to the illness. His durability is a question mark, given his lanky frame and high-flying style, but he has tantalizing upside as a rebounder and defensive menace. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 12:05 pm
  • Andrea Bargnani's status for opener unclear
Andrea Bargnani's status for Wednesday's regular season opener is unclear due to his hamstring injury.

Advice: The No.1 overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft has missed over two weeks with his hamstring injury and is now in danger of missing regular season games. The Knicks' frontcourt depth is thin enough that Bargnani could provide some deep league fantasy value when (if?) healthy, but owners in standard leagues would do best to look elsewhere for now. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 10:59 am
  • Steve Clifford says Al Jefferson is locked in
Hornets head coach Steve Clifford said that Al Jefferson is locked in and excited to start the 2014-15 season.

Advice: Clifford also added that, in his opinion, the most important thing to motivate players in the NBA is how good they think the team can be. After making the playoffs last season, things are looking up for Big Al and the former Bobcats with the addition of Lance Stephenson, Marvin Williams, and Brian Roberts to their roster. Jefferson had a breakout season in 2013-14 as he averaged 25.4 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.9 blocks after the All-Star break and fantasy owners shouldn't let him fall past the top-20 on draft day. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 10:25 am
  • Anthony Davis practicing on Tuesday
Anthony Davis (wrist) participated in Tuesday's practice with his right wrist wrapped.

Advice: The sound you hear is fantasy owners breathing a sigh of relief as the fact that Davis is practicing the day after injuring his wrist is promising news. Davis has been a consensus top-3 pick in fantasy drafts this year and owners who like to draft high-upside players should have no issue with taking the 21-year-old with the No. 1 overall pick. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 10:06 am
  • Dirk Nowitzki working on quicker release
Dirk Nowitzki said that he is working on adding a quicker release to his shot.

Advice: As Nowitski enters his 17th NBA season, he'll need to make adjustments to keep playing at a high level and adjusting his shot served as low-hanging fruit. "It wasn't going to be running quicker or jumping higher," Nowitzki said. "So I figured I'd work on something that I can control." While the 36-year-old has consistently returned first-round fantasy value, he's a much safer pick towards the end of the second round or beginning of the third round. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 9:20 am
  • Amare Stoudemire rediscovering basketball joy
Amare Stoudemire said he has rediscovered his love of basketball.

Advice: Stoudemire has dealt with injuries for the better part of three seasons, but the 32-year-old feels like he's turned a corner. "My joy is there. My love of the game is there," said Stoudemire. "I feel like I’m 19 again as far as how much I love to play the game of basketball. I feel youthful. To have that type of feeling again as I had my rookie year, to want to play and just want to be out there and get better as a player is pretty encouraging." STAT should have a better season than the 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds that he averaged in 2013-14, but his fantasy value is still limited to deeper leagues at the moment. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 7:15 am
  • Dirk Nowitzki plays 23 minutes on Monday
Dirk Nowitzki returned from a one-game absence with 10 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and one 3-pointer on Monday.

Advice: He just got some rest and he's been over his hip injury for over a week. Nowitzki isn't the sexiest pick you can make, but he is a very safe guy to grab at the turn of the second and third rounds. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 8:49 pm
  • Henry Sims not having a great October
Henry Sims scored 13 points in Monday's 99-88 loss to the Nets with five rebounds, one assist, one steal and five fouls in 20 minutes.

Advice: His numbers haven't been great over his past four, making just 37.1 percent from the field with 0.5 blocks. Sims does have some decent point and board totals this preseason, but he certainly hasn't solidified his case for more minutes. Fantasy owners can look at him as a middle-class man's Zach Randolph for his output in points and boards, but there isn't a lot of upside. Plus, Arnett Moultrie isn't falling on his face either, which we thought he would. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 8:00 pm
  • Love quiet in return from neck injury
Kevin Love (neck) returned to action in Monday's preseason game against the Bulls, scoring nine points on 2-of-10 shooting (0-for-5 3PTs) with 13 rebounds, three assists and no steals or blocks in 35 minutes.

Advice: Timing and cohesion will be early issues and owners shouldn't read into these results too much. Love is still a worth drafting later in the first round, despite the potential impact of his new big-time teammates or any potential injury risk. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 7:33 pm
  • Varejao starts, goes for 22 and eight vs. CHI
Anderson Varejao (knee) started against the Bulls in Monday's exhibition, scoring 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting with eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks in just 23 minutes.

Advice: The numbers have to be taken with a preseason grain of salt but because David Blatt ran things as if tonight was a regular season game it looks like Varejao is the starting center. He's always been productive when healthy, but therein lies the problem and he's a late round selection only because of his record in that department. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 7:30 pm
  • All Clear: Anthony Davis says wrist is 'fine'
Anthony Davis said his sprained right wrist is "fine" and that he wanted to return to the Monday's exhibition game.

Advice: All clear, as expected. Davis wanted to return but Monty Williams held him out, and as writers said at the time he never appeared to be in pain. Owners can continue drafting him anywhere between No. 1 and 3 with visions of untold fantasy greatness. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 7:11 pm
  • Anthony Davis suffers sprained right wrist
Anthony Davis suffered a sprained right wrist in Monday's preseason game and will not return.

Advice: That's probably doubtful and let's say right off the bat that the beat writers are saying he doesn't appear to be in any pain. We'll update you as soon as we get a handle on this and owners should keep the needle still until we hear of a legitimate reason to be concerned. Rotoworld.com

  • Amare Stoudemire will start at center vs. MIL
Amare Stoudemire will start at center vs. the Bucks on Monday.

Advice: Stoudemire is likely to be rested in back-to-back sets this season, and with minimal contributions to the box score, he's just not worth drafting in standard leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 4:00 pm
  • Al Jefferson (rest) out Monday vs. Atlanta
Al Jefferson (rest) will not suit up for Monday's exhibition game vs. Atlanta.

Advice: Big Al is one of the best centers in the league, and he averaged 24.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.9 blocks after the break last season while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the charity stripe. He's the Hornets' No. 1 option on offense, and is worthy of a top-20 selection on draft day. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 3:10 pm
  • Nerlens Noel (illness) out on Monday night
Nerlens Noel (illness) will not play against the Nets on Monday night.

Advice: Coach Brett Brown said that he's not concerned about Noel missing time because the rookie has been practicing. Noel has been out since Oct. 15 and has missed three games, but he should be ready for the season opener. Fantasy owners can target him in the middle rounds. Arnett Moultrie has stepped it up while Noel has been out. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 9:08 am
  • Anderson Varejao starting at C on Monday
Anderson Varejao will start at center against the Bulls on Monday.

Advice: Tristan Thompson is coming off the bench tonight. Over the weekend, coach David Blatt said he was going to treat this game like a regular season contest, so this is a telling development if what he said was true. Varejao is hurt quite a bit, but he does offer higher upside than Thompson. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 8:38 am
  • Amare Stoudemire to get recover days
Amare Stoudemire will not have a minutes limit but will have regular recovery days this season.

Advice: Basically, he's not going to play in back-to-back sets here and there. Stoudemire had a minutes limit last year and it worked out very well for him, avoiding injury for much of the year. Still, he's not going to be worth drafting in most leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 7:40 am
  • Luis Scola expected to start on Tuesday
Luis Scola is expected to start against the Wolves on Tuesday.

Advice: As it stands right now, he could be the starter on opening night with David West dealing with an ankle injury. Scola has rarely turned in top-100 value because he's only a two-category player, so fantasy owners shouldn't be overly excited about picking him up. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 7:30 am
  • Carlos Boozer ties career-high w/ six steals
Carlos Boozer tied his career-high with six steals during Sunday's exhibition win, adding 19 points, nine rebounds and one block in 28 minutes vs. the Lakers.

Advice: Boozer made 6-of-12 FGs and 7-of-7 FTs, taking full advantage of Enes Kanter's defensive limitations. He looks determined to hold off rookie Julius Randle for the starting PF job and shouldn't have much trouble early in the season. Just keep in mind that once the losses mount coach Byron Scott may cede to reality and unleash Randle to Boozer's detriment. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 9:19 pm
  • Dwight Howard (knee) looks good in 11 minutes
Dwight Howard (knee) shook off a slow start to finish Sunday's exhibition with 11 points, eight rebounds, one steal and two blocks in just 17 minutes vs. the Warriors.

Advice: This was Dwight's first exhibition action since Oct. 7 but he showed minimal rust, and should be ready to go for the Rockets' season opener. Owners willing to accept his awful FT shooting should benefit from stats right around his 2013-14 averages -- 18.3 points on 59.1 percent shooting, 12.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.8 steals and 1.8 blocks per game. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 7:56 pm
  • Kendrick Perkins still sidelined w/ sore quad
Kendrick Perkins' quadriceps injury will keep him on the sidelines yet again on Sunday.

Advice: Perk sat out training camp and he's now missed six games to open the exhibition season. Even if he does return for Tuesday's preseason finale, his conditioning may be an issue and it's hard to envision him overtaking Steven Adams for the starting C job on opening night. Perkins is still only 29 years old, but his days of fantasy relevance are long gone. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 3:23 pm
  • Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) out Monday
Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) has been ruled out of Monday's preseason game vs. the Bucks.

Advice: There's not much reason to suit up against the Bucks, but Bargnani hasn't exactly been a model of health throughout his career. In fact, the last time Bargnani made it through 80 games was in 2009, and while he'll likely be ready for opening night, his propensity for getting injured makes him a negligible asset in most leagues. Take a flier on him if you want, but be ready to hit the waiver wire at the first signs of trouble. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 10:08 am
  • Blake Griffin scores 27 points vs. Nuggets
Blake Griffin scored 27 points with five rebounds, one steal and one block in 31 minutes.

Advice: He was 9-of-13 from the line, which has been a bit of a problem in the preseason. Griffin was 3-of-9 on Friday, so hopefully he's just in a funk. His 74 percent from the line after the break might have been a bit of a fluke. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 10:36 pm
  • Mavericks resting just about everyone vs. IND
Dirk Nowitzki, Monta Ellis, Tyson Chandler, Chandler Parsons, Jameer Nelson and Devin Harris are resting against the Pacers.

Advice: Dirk is believed to be fine and he's over his hip injury from earlier this month. Fantasy owners can target him at the turn of the second and third rounds. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 3:28 pm
  • Nerlens Noel (illness) out on Saturday
Nerlens Noel (illness) is out again on Saturday against the Magic.

Advice: He has been battling an upper respiratory infection and could not recover in time for Saturday's game. The 76er's are not going to risk the health of their young stud, so the writing was on the wall for this one. Noel has had a strong preseason so far and it doesn't appear that his knee has limited him at all. If you are willing to take a gamble on him in the middle-rounds, he could be an awesome value pick as the season progresses. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 3:00 pm
  • Andrea Bargnani misses practice
Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) missed practice on Saturday.

Advice: Raptors general manager Masai Ujiri smarter every day Bargnani is on the Knicks. Barganani's hamstring injury isn't likely going to keep him from playing in the regular season opener, but he might be coming off the bench. He has very little fantasy value. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 1:26 pm
  • Kevin Love (Neck) expected to play Monday
Kevin Love (Neck) is expected to play in an exhibition against Chicago on Monday.

Advice: The fact that he is playing in an exhibition bodes well for his status as his neck injury may have made his prospective fantasy owners nervous. Love is fine, and you can safely draft him inside the first round. However, expect a slight dip in his numbers across the board due to his new role on the Cavs. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 12:21 pm
  • Amare Stoudemire doesn't practice Saturday
Amare Stoudemire, Travis Outlaw, and Andrea Bargnani all did not practice on Saturday.

Advice: It appears to be a rest situation for all three forwards. Bargnani, who is also nursing a hamstring injury, looks to have lost his shot at a starting job while Stoudemire just might not have the stamina to earn one either. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 10:30 am
  • Jason Smith could start for Knicks
Knicks head coach Derek Fisher reiterated that there is still plenty of competition for the starting power forward job and that Jason Smith could be in the mix.

Advice: Although Quincy Acy has started during all of the Knicks' preseason games Fisher said, "Jason Smith has played some good minutes for us the last couple games since he’s been back and there’s no reason why he couldn't maybe crack into that [starting lineup]." If Smith were to earn a starting job his fantasy value would increase by a good margin. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 9:57 am
  • Hawes scores 24 points in 23 minutes
Spencer Hawes scored 24 points in 23 minutes in Friday's exhibition win, hitting 9-of-15 shots (including three treys) with six rebounds, one steal and one block.

Advice: DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin combined to play 70 minutes and this illustrates how Hawes has a legit chance to help fantasy squads this year. Hawes will be held back by lower field goal percentage because of all those 3-point attempts, and his defensive stats are nothing to write home about, but all told he's a safe and solid pick in the late rounds of a standard draft. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 11:31 pm
  • Amare Stoudemire bathes in red wine
Amare Stoudemire bathes in red wine to help his body rejuvenate.

Advice: "The red wine bath is very important to me because it allows me to create more circulation in my red blood cells," Stoudemire said after completing a three-hour practice with the Knicks on Thursday. "Plus, it's very hot, so it's like a hot tub. But it's also the red wine ... just kind of soothes the body." Interesting... however with Stoudemire's minutes likely to be limited this season, as well as the potential for him to be rested in back-to-back sets, he's not a very appealing fantasy option in standard leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 2:05 pm
  • Olajuwon thinks Howard can have MVP-type year
Hakeem Olajuwon thinks Dwight Howard is ready to have an MVP-type season.

Advice: "I could see last year when I worked with him in camp that there were some things that he could not do. Or they were things that he did not think he could do," said Olajuwon. "The difference now is that he is fit and those doubts are gone... He should have a season that makes everyone vote for him as MVP." Howard can be a great addition to a fantasy squad that is tanking the free throw category, with solid contributions to points, rebounds, blocks, and field goal percentage. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 12:21 pm
  • Kendrick Perkins (quad) out Friday vs. TOR
Kendrick Perkins (quad) will not suit up for Friday's preseason game vs. the Raptors.

Advice: Perkins averaged 3.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 0.5 blocks over 19.5 minutes of action last season, and it's actually kind of impressive how ineffective he can be in a starting center role on a playoff team. Steve Adams has been very good so far this preseason, and he's looking more and more like the starting center once the regular season begins, but with coach Scott Brooks you never really know. If Adams is named the starter he could be a late-round steal in standard leagues. However, if Brooks for some reason decides to go with Perkins, he still shouldn't be drafted in any league. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 11:53 am
  • Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) limited
Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) was limited in practice on Friday.

Advice: He looks to have lost his chance in the starting lineup to Quincy Acy. With Amare Stoudemire likely to soak up a lot of minutes off the bench and posting ugly numbers next to Bargnani last season, it's hard to imagine where Il Mago fits in. He can be ignored almost everywhere. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 10:51 am
  • Kevin Love (neck) to be rested on Friday
Kevin Love (neck) will not play against the Mavericks on Friday.

Advice: The team has said Love is fine, so there's no reason to panic. He'll be ready to go for the regular season and should be back on the practice court next week. Love's role is going to change, so he's not the high-end first round pick he was while with the Wolves. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 8:35 am
  • Carlos Boozer looks good on Thursday
Carlos Boozer played 28 minutes against one of his former teams on Thursday during a 119-86 loss, scoring 17 points with three rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block.

Advice: He's posting some decent scoring lines in the preseason, but the Lakers look lost on defense. Boozer isn't going to be a highly-coveted guy in your draft, but he should put up some nice points and boards totals. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 10:14 pm
  • Markieff Morris looks great off the bench
Markieff Morris came off the bench and played 23 minutes against the Spurs on Thursday, making 7-of-10 from the field for 17 points, seven rebounds, one steal and one 3-pointer.

Advice: He hasn't been completely unleashed in the preseason, but the stats have been there in limited playing time. All the pieces are in place for a Markieff breakout after being the 38th-best player in nine-category leagues after the break last season. Plus, that was with Channing Frye around. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 10:04 pm
  • Anthony Davis looks amazing again
Anthony Davis looked dominant against the Thunder on Thursday, making 10-of-15 from the field for 28 points with eight rebounds, two assists and one block.

Advice: He's good at basketball. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 7:55 pm
  • Henry Sims bounces back on Thurs
Henry Sims bounced back from a dud with an eight-point, 10-board game against the Celtics on Thursday.

Advice: He shot 1-of-11 from the field on Tuesday and has looked pretty bad so far this preseason. Sims is still the favorite to start and could be a double-double threat, but the limited upside makes him a late-round lottery ticket. To be clear, he's still an option for owners needing a big man. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 6:58 pm
  • Dwight Howard (knee) hopes to play Sunday
Dwight Howard (knee) is hoping to play Sunday against the Golden State Warriors.

Advice: Howard has been dealing with a sore knee for the past week, and has missed multiple preseason games as a result. Injuries have limited Howard from the dominant force he once was, but he still carries a ton of fantasy value. He can score, grab rebounds, and block shots at an above average clip, however potential owners must be willing to sacrifice free three percentage if they draft him. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 2:32 pm
  • Andrea Bargnani limited in practice on Thurs
Andrea Bargnani (hamstring) was limited at practice on Thursday.

Advice: Bargnani has missed the Knicks last three preseason game with a nagging hamstring injury. Logging a limited practice session may mean he is close to returning, but his debilitating health has to be a concern. He should be off fantasy radars until he shows some promise in the Knicks' new look offense. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 11:28 am
  • Pek loves the idea of playing 27 minutes
Nikola Pekovic said that he loves the idea of playing 27 minutes per game.

Advice: He is hopeful that the drop in playing time will get him to at least 70 games. Pekovic has dealt with bursitis in his ankle since last season and it's very likely he'll miss time due to an injury. While it might be unconventional, fantasy owners should target backup Gorgui Dieng over Pek. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 10:50 am
  • Nerlens Noel will not play Thursday vs Boston
Nerlens Noel (illness) will not play in Thursday's exhibition game against Boston due to an upper respiratory infection.

Advice: Noel missed the latter half of Wednesday's practice with flu-like symptoms and will take Thursday off to recuperate. The illness is nothing for fantasy owners to worry about as Noel has looked solid during the preseason and is a high-risk, high-reward pick in the mid-rounds of standard leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 8:22 am
  • Dirk Nowitzki favors shortened NBA season
Dirk Nowitzki would like to see the NBA regular season schedule trimmed from 82 games.

Advice: Piggybacking on comments by Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, Dirk said he thinks the regular season schedule should be cut to the "mid-60s." Nowitzki then added his biggest issue is back-to-backs, "Honestly, I never was a big fan of back-to-backs even when I was 20 years old. I think that you should never have to play at the highest level there is two consecutive nights and flying in between." While his suggestion would go a long way towards helping the 36-year-old, he's still worth a late-second, early-third round draft pick in standard fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 7:40 am
  • Kevin Love's injury not thought to be serious
Cavaliers head coach David Blatt said Kevin Love has a stiff neck after leaving Wednesday's game and a team spokesperson reiterated that the injury is not serious.

Advice: Love returned to the court after originally suffering his injury, but asked to be removed from the game during the second quarter and did not return after half time. Blatt said that he hopes Love will be available for Friday's exhibition against the Mavericks, so this shouldn't change fantasy owners' perception of the big man as a first-round draft pick. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 6:40 am
  • Anderson Varejao sits out with sore knee
Anderson Varejao sat out Wednesday's game with a sore knee.

Advice: He's OK, but the Cavaliers are going to be cautious with their fragile big man. He should be ready for the start of the season, assuming his knee problem isn't being reported inaccurately. If he does miss time, Tristan Thompson and Brendan Haywood will fill in for him. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:21 pm
  • Kevin Love's neck injury not serious
Kevin Love left Wednesday's game with a neck injury, which is not thought to be serious.

Advice: It sounds like Love is fine, but his hot streak was stopped tonight. He hit just 1-of-6 shots for five points, four rebounds, two assists and no 3-pointers. Love has dinged up his knee and his neck in his last two games, and came in on fire, hitting 17-of-23 shots and 9-of-12 3-pointers prior to tonight's line. Despite the early minor injuries, he's good to go on draft night. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 8:37 pm
  • Roy Hibbert quiet in loss to Cavs
Roy Hibbert started and played 21 minutes, but hit just 3-of-9 shots for eight points, five rebounds, one steal and zero blocks in Wednesday's loss to the Cavs.

Advice: Hibbert hasn't exactly blown anyone's socks off the preseason, but he simply has to play well if the Pacers are going to compete. No, we don't fully trust Hibbert, but do think he'll be a good value pick at center, as the Pacers need him to return to form. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 8:25 pm
  • Kevin Love's back/neck injury not serious
Kevin Love, who was iffy coming into Wednesday's game with a sore knee, was able to start in that game, but left early after apparently hurting his neck.

Advice: Love immediately asked out of the game after getting "banged up" and was said to be favoring his neck and back. He also didn't return to start the second half, nor did he ever make it to the bench, but the team is reporting after the game that the injury is not considered serious. Continue to draft Love as a first-rounder, as you were. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 5:36 pm
  • Nerlens Noel (flu) expects to play Thursday
Nerlens Noel expects to play on Thursday despite missing Wednesday's practice due to illness.

Advice: Noel played through a fever on Tuesday but you couldn't tell by watching him play, as he racked up 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, four steals and one block in 34 minutes. He's likely to start at power forward, which may spare him some physical abuse from the league's centers, and he has impressive fantasy upside with an undercurrent of injury risk. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:58 am
  • Kevin Love (knee) expects to play Wednesday
Kevin Love (sore knee) expects to play on Wednesday.

Advice: He only logged 21 minutes on Tuesday, leaving for good soon after bumping knees with Jabari Parker in the third quarter, but the injury isn't a concern for the Cavs. Love has been terrific all preseason, easing concerns about his production alongside LeBron James and Kyrie Irving while solidifying himself as a mid-first-round pick. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 7:16 am
  • Anthony Davis in midseason form in win
Anthony Davis hit 9-of-11 shots and 8-of-10 free throws for 26 points, eight rebounds, a steal and four blocks in Tuesday's win over the Rockets.

Advice: Dwight Howard and James Harden were out for the Rockets, but Davis is going to be dominant any time he's on the court this season. If you want to take him No. 1 overall with Kevin Durant down and out (foot), do it. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 9:40 pm
  • Andy Varejao tweaks right knee in win
Anderson Varejao banged knees with another player, left the game and spent the rest of the night having his right knee looked at on the bench.

Advice: He didn't go to the locker room and coach Blatt expects him to play tomorrow, although we're guessing he'll get the night off if he's dealing with any soreness on Wednesday afternoon. Varejao had six points and four rebounds in 23 minutes before exiting, and should be considered day-to-day. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 8:20 pm
  • Kevin Love stays hot, bangs knee
Kevin Love hit 8-of-11 shots and five more 3-pointers for 25 points, four rebounds and two assists on Tuesday, but also banged his right knee during the game.

Advice: He's been absolutely lights-out with his shooting over the last two preseason games, hitting 17-of-23 shots and 9-for-12 3-pointers. He's expected to play on Wednesday despite his sore knee, and his draft stock appears to be rising, although keep in mind LeBron James sat this one out. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 8:17 pm
  • Henry Sims still looking for his shot
Henry Sims hit just 1-of-11 shots, but also hit 8-of-8 free throws for 10 points, seven rebounds, a steal and no blocks in 34 minutes of Tuesday's loss.

Advice: He looks to be locked into the starting lineup, and while he hit 6-of-11 shots for 17 points on Friday, he hasn't looked very good in his other preseason games. But when you need a starting center late in your draft, don't forget about Sims. He put up some very nice stat lines late last season, and should get it going again before the games start counting. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 7:08 pm
  • Nerlens Noel double-doubles in loss
Nerlens Noel hit 3-of-5 shots for 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block in 34 minutes of Tuesday's start.

Advice: He was playing through a sore thigh and that's a very solid line. The Sixers are going to struggle all season, and Noel will have some off nights, but he's already looking like a reliable big man in fantasy. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 7:06 pm
  • Jason Smith scores 14 off Knicks bench
Jason Smith played 24 minutes and hit 5-of-10 shots for 14 points, five rebounds and one assist on Tuesday.

Advice: He's coming off knee surgery and made his season debut tonight. He played well and should eventually challenge Samuel Dalembert for the starting center job in New York. And if it happens, he'll be worth a late look in deep leagues by owners in need of a center. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 7:01 pm
  • Andrea Bargnani out again w/ sore hamstring
Andrea Bargnani's hamstring injury will sideline him again on Tuesday.

Advice: His absence can be classified as 'precautionary' but we're still leery of him given his lengthy injury history. He's missed more than 25 percent of all available games since entering the NBA in 2006, and is coming off a dreadful 42-game campaign last season. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 3:02 pm
  • Griffin scores 31 points in loss to Jazz
Blake Griffin scored 31 points on 14-of-22 shooting with five rebounds and two steals in Monday's preseason loss to the Jazz.

Advice: Griffin struggled vs. Portland on Sunday and the extended minutes were a bit of a surprise, but he was able to get back on track nonetheless. Especially with Kevin Durant dealing with a foot issue now, Griffin is going to be in the mix for MVP consideration and he's a top 20-30 guy in 8- and 9-cat leagues, respectively. Rotoworld.com
