  • Josh McRoberts is probable for Saturday
Josh McRoberts (toe) is probable to face the 76ers on Saturday.

Advice: He's been back at practice and should be good to go. McRoberts should act as a point-forward in the offense and may have a chance to duplicate his stats with the Bobcats last season. If you have Shawne Williams, you can let him loose. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Brandon Knight will be an RFA
Brandon Knight and the Bucks have ended their contract extension talks.

Advice: He'll be in a contract year before he becomes a restricted free agent. Knight looked like a point guard in the opener with 13 dimes against the Hornets, so maybe he can have a career year under Jason Kidd. Rotoworld.com

  • Tristan Thompson not likely to be extended
Tristan Thompson and the Cavs are reportedly still far apart on a contract extension, and their unlikely to come to an agreement by Friday's deadline.

Advice: That means that Thompson will become a restricted free agent at the conclusion of the season. While Anderson Varejao is healthy Thompson's fantasy value will be very limited, however, that will change if Varejao goes down at any point. Rotoworld.com

  • Brandon Jennings off to rocky start with SVG
Brandon Jennings has been benched in favor of D.J. Augustin for large portions of the Pistons' games, and has yet to play a single minute of the fourth quarter.

Advice: Brandon Jennings is off to a rocky start with head coach Stan Van Gundy, and when he was told that Van Gundy said the reason for his benching was that Augustin was playing better, Jennings responded: "Then he should start right now and I'll be the back-up." That's not a great attitude to have, and SVG isn't afraid to question Jennings' horrid shot selection. Brandon is currently averaging just 17 minutes through two games this season, and if things don't improve soon, it might make sense to drop him and move on. Rotoworld.com

  • Josh McRoberts (toe) practiced in full on Fri
Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) was a full participant during Friday's practice.

Advice: McBob is getting very close to making his regular-season debut with the Heat, and we'll be monitoring his status closely. The Heat play the 76ers on Saturday, so we'll list him as questionable for that one. His ability to offer 3-point shooting and assists with minimal turnovers from the power forward position make him a viable asset in standard leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Hasheem Thabeet headed to D-League
Hasheem Thabeet has passed on offers to play in Europe, and has committed to join the Grand Rapids of the D-League.

Advice: The former No. 2 overall pick of the 2009 draft will now attempt to impress in the D-League in order to sign an NBA contract. However, he's never been able to produce meaningful stats on an NBA team, so even if he does get a contract, there's no reason to pay him any mind in a fantasy league. Rotoworld.com

  • Rick Carlisle likes Chandler Parsons' game
Rick Carlisle heaped praise on Chandler Parsons following the Mavs' lopsided victory over Utah on Thursday.

Advice: "I like everything about Parsons," head coach Rick Carlisle said. "He plays hard; he is decisive with what he is doing... By the time All-Star break rolls around, people are going to look at him and say this is one of the best young players in the league." Parsons bounced-back from a disappointing season-opener, scoring 21 points to go along with seven rebounds, two assists, and one 3-pointer. He's going to be a primary component of the Mavs' offense, and will have plenty more games like this one going forward. Rotoworld.com

  • Hawks pickup team option on Dennis Schroder
The Hawks have picked up their team option on Dennis Schroder.

Advice: Schroder is going to split minutes with Shelvin Mack, backing up starting point guard Jeff Teague, and that's not a recipe for fantasy success. Leave him on the waiver wire. Rotoworld.com

  • 76ers pickup Michael Carter-Williams option
The 76ers have picked up their team option on Michael Carter-Williams (shoulder) for the 2015-16 season.

Advice: The move was expected after MCW led all rookies in points (16.7), assists (6.3), and steals (1.9) last year on his way to winning the Rookie of the Year award. Carter-Williams remains sidelined with a shoulder injury, but he is scheduled to go through a full practice on Nov. 6, after which, the 76ers will have a better idea as to when he can make his sophomore season debut. Stay tuned. Rotoworld.com

  • J.J. Redick has an awful shooting game
J.J. Redick made just one of his 10 attempts from the field against the Thunder on Thursday with five points and one 3-pointer.

Advice: Yuck. Redick just couldn't get his shot to go down and wasn't really forcing anything. He'll be better his next time out against the weak Lakers defense on Friday. Rotoworld.com

  • Wright puts a nice line in 20 minutes
Brandan Wright scored 14 points in 20 minutes on Thursday with three rebounds, one assist, one steal and two blocks.

Advice: He almost doesn't miss from the field and garbage time wasn't a huge factor with none of his field goals coming in the last six minutes of the game. Wright will have low-end fantasy value because he will likely see time in the high teens most nights. Rotoworld.com

  • Tyson Chandler scores 13 on perfect FGs
Tyson Chandler made all five attempts from the field for 13 points with six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 25 minutes against the Jazz on Thursday.

Advice: Garbage time was a factor tonight and he did have some foul trouble in the opener, so he should be above his 26.5 minutes per game. Chandler is more of a three-category guy in fantasy for boards, blocks and field goal percentage. Rotoworld.com

  • Chandler Parsons scores 21 in win
Chandler Parsons bounced back from a stinker in the opener with a 21-point game against the Jazz on Thursday, adding seven rebounds, two assists and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes.

Advice: He just couldn't get his shots to go down in the opener and was much better tonight, making 8-of-16. Parsons is going to be heavily involved in the offense, which figures to be among the league's best for points and overall fantasy output. We should see more of this CP than the Tuesday version. • Iman Shumpert scores 12 in starting lineup
Iman Shumpert played 29 minutes against the Cavs on Thursday with 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and one turnover.

Advice: He handled the ball a little bit for the Knicks, but he wasn't running the point. Shumpert isn't going to be involved enough on offense to warrant a pickup in most fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 9:43 pm
  • J.R. Smith looks much better, scores 11
J.R. Smith battled through a back injury against the Cavs on Thursday, finishing with 11 points, one rebound, seven assists, two steals and one 3-pointer on 5-of-10 from the field.

Advice: He only had two games with seven or more assists last season, so the dimes are a big surprises. Smith has been dealing with a back issue for basically the past month and it's something he might have to endure throughout the season. He's a low-end fantasy option. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 9:39 pm
  • Samuel Dalembert gets benched
Samuel Dalembert was benched in the second half of Thursday's game against the Cavs, finishing with two rebounds in six minutes.

Advice: He didn't register any other stats and missed his only shot. Dalembert has been in the doghouse for about a half-dozen coaches, so this is not a surprise. His fantasy owners can probably start looking elsewhere in deeper leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Tristan Thompson comes off the bench
Tristan Thompson came off the bench for 20 minutes against the Knicks during a 95-90 loss on Thursday, scoring six points with two rebounds.

Advice: He made just 3-of-7 from the field and made it abundantly clear he's not going to have much value while Anderson Varejao is healthy. Fantasy owners can cut Thompson in most leagues due to a lack of per-minute production from a fantasy perspective. Rotoworld.com

  • LeBron James has rough start in loss vs. NY
LeBron James made 5-of-15 from the field in Thursday's stunning 95-90 loss to the Knicks, scoring 17 points with five rebounds, four assists, one 3-pointer and eight turnovers.

Advice: He was just 1-of-10 outside of three feet and his turnovers were a big story tonight, as well. "I hate turning the ball over," James said. "It’s a pet peeve of mine and eight is definitely something that’s not OK." The Cavs did play at a slow pace tonight at just 83 possessions, which is much worse than the last-place Grizzlies at 92.3 from 2013-14. All that said, if you're panicking about LeBron after just one game, fantasy basketball is not for you. He'll be fine. Rotoworld.com

  • Brandon Jennings plays just 16 minutes
Brandon Jennings played just 16 minutes against the Wolves on Thursday, scoring four points with two rebounds and six assists on 2-of-4 from the field.

Advice: His minutes are in deep, deep trouble. For the first three halves of the season, coach Stan Van Gundy basically played Jennings for the first 10 minutes of the half and would then go with D.J. Augustin for the rest. However, Jennings picked up a third foul early in the third quarter, picked up a technical foul, and was sent for the bench for good. He's not a must-own player anymore. Rotoworld.com

  • J.R. Smith tweaks back, expects to return
J.R. Smith tweaked his back against the Cavs and returned to the game

Advice: He has dealt with back issues for much of the preseason and this might linger during the season. Smith is behind in learning the triangle offense, so his owners will have to be patient. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 5:44 pm
  • Iman Shumpert will play PG without Calderon
Iman Shumpert will play some point guard with Jose Calderon (calf) out 2-3 weeks.

Advice: That should be an interesting experiment considering Shumpert is not a point guard. The Knicks are already thin at the position with just Pablo Prigioni and an unproven Shane Larkin behind Calderon, so Shumpert will have to take some of the minutes at the position as well. Theoretically, this should also open up some minutes for JR Smith and Tim Hardaway at shooting guard. Rotoworld.com

  • Brandon Jennings starting to get it finally
Brandon Jennings said that he's "starting to get it."

Advice: That's a good start, Brandon. "Who has the hot spots, who's been scoring, when I see guys down and when to pick up the energy of the team. They're gonna feed off my energy, on the floor and off." Jennings seems committed to really improving his reputation as a point guard, but he played just 20 minutes in the Pistons' first game with four points, four rebounds and two assists. Rotoworld.com

  • Iman Shumpert suggests Knicks quit vs. CHI
Iman Shumpert and JR Smith both suggested that the Knicks quit against the Bulls in Wednesday's 104-80 opening night loss.

Advice: "We never recovered," Shumpert said. "We can't die like that. I think our energy died and we can't do that." Added Smith, "When we stopped competing the end of the third quarter, fourth quarter, we could all tell." It's an ominous admission from two players the Knicks need to be key pieces this season. In the first regular season game of the Phil Jackson-Derek Fisher era, the Knicks were a disaster. Rotoworld.com

  • LeBron James calls Cleveland opener huge
LeBron James called the Cavaliers home opener "probably one of the biggest sporting events that's up there ever."

Advice: For LeBron and for Cleveland, it's an iconic moment that will be remembered forever. For the rest of us, it holds a little less luster. Regardless, LeBron's return to Cleveland will be headline news all season long. Prepare yourself for it. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 11:17 am
  • Brandon Jennings surprised at lack of usage
Brandon Jennings said he was surprised at his lack of usage during Wednesday's loss to the Nuggets.

Advice: While Jennings did say that it is the coach's decision, he didn't sound happy about only seeing 20 minutes of playing time during the Pistons' opening night loss. "A little surprising," he said. "Never happened before in my career. But hey, it is what it is. We've just got to keep pushing through it." D.J. Augustin saw 28 minutes of action and received a voice of support from head coach Stan Van Gundy after the game. "I thought he was playing better than Brandon, I guess," Van Gundy said. This situation has a chance of getting ugly pretty quickly, but Jennings' fantasy owners don't have much of a choice than to sit tight and hope things turn around. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 8:20 am
  • Cavs optimistic on Tristan Thompson extension
The Cleveland Cavaliers are still optimistic about signing Tristan Thompson to a contract extension.

Advice: With clock is ticking towards the October 31 deadline that would keep Thompson from become a restricted free agent after the 2014-15 season, the Cavs are still expressing optimism. "We’d like to sign Tristan long-term to the Cavaliers. I don’t think that’s any secret," Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert said. "I believe they’d like to do that as well. So we’ll hopefully see what happens this week." Thompson will be primarily backing up Kevin Love and Anderson Varejao this season, so his fantasy value is limited to deeper leagues barring an injury. • Brandon Jennings plays 20 mins, Augustin at 28
Brandon Jennings played just 20 minutes against Nuggets on Wednesday, scoring four points with four rebounds, two assists and three turnovers on 2-of-4 from the field.

Advice: Uh oh. It takes a special type of player to fit on coach Stan Van Gundy's system and Jennings is certainly not the prototype. He did have some Achilles soreness and maybe that was a factor, but the coast is clear on the injury front right now. Jennings is probably one of the biggest losers from a fantasy perspective tonight and he is on thin ice after just one game. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 11:19 pm
  • J.R. Smith scores six points off Knicks bench
J.R. Smith came off the Knicks' bench on Wednesday, scoring six points on 2-of-8 shooting with one rebound and three assists.

Advice: Smith also posted a +/- rating of -22 in just 22 minutes. The former Sixth-Man of the Year has admitted that he feels lost in the Knicks' new triangle offense and that was evident tonight, but in fairness he was limited by back spasms throughout the preseason. With increased competition at SG this year, there's no reason to touch J.R. unless you're in dire need of scoring and 3-pointers. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:49 pm
  • Iman Shumpert logs 20 minutes as starter
Iman Shumpert scored five points on 2-of-9 shooting vs. the Bulls on Wednesday, hitting one 3-pointer with three rebounds and three steals in just 20 minutes of action.

Advice: This pretty much sums up Shumpert's fantasy appeal, as he's only worth owning if you want 3s and steals. Tim Hardaway Jr. played 18 minutes tonight, and J.R. Smith played 22 minutes, which adds even more risk to Shumpert's near-term outlook. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:38 pm
  • Samuel Dalembert blocks three shots vs. Bulls
Samuel Dalembert made his Knicks' debut on Wednesday with six points, four rebounds, two assists, three blocks and one turnover in 20 minutes.

Advice: Dalembert has minimal upside in New York but he's capable of top-120 value in just 20-25 minutes per game. It's hard to imagine him losing the starting C job to Jason Smith, Amare Stoudemire, Andrea Bargnani or Cole Aldrich, so owners in need of rebounds, blocks and FG percentage shouldn't be afraid to pluck him off the waiver wire. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 10:32 pm
  • Brandon Knight posts big double-double
Brandon Knight hit just 5-of-17 shots, but also made 10-of-10 free throws and two 3-pointers on his way to 22 points, eight rebounds, 13 assists and a block in Wednesday's OT loss to the Hornets.

Advice: Knight, who played 39 minutes, was fantastic tonight and Kendall Marshall didn't even get off the bench. Knight has the starting job locked down after this one, and if he somehow isn't owned in your league, try to get him. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 7:19 pm
  • Iman Shumpert starting at SG vs. Chicago
Iman Shumpert will start at SG vs. the Bulls on Wednesday, as expected.

Advice: Shumpert's defense seems to have given him the edge over Tim Hardaway Jr. and J.R. Smith, the latter of whom has been plagued by back spasms since training camp. Shump chips in enough 3-pointers and steals to be worth a look, but most fantasy owners can do better on the waiver wire. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 3:24 pm
  • Josh McRoberts (toe) ruled out for Wednesday
Josh McRoberts (toe) will not play against the Wizards on Wednesday.

Advice: He has been out for most of the preseason and it will likely be Shawne Williams in the starting lineup. McRoberts doesn't have a timetable to return and he should be benched in most fantasy leagues. He is still worth owning, of course. Rotoworld.com

  • Cavaliers want to extend Tristan Thompson
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert said on Wednesday that he wants to extend Tristan Thompson long term.

Advice: The Cavs and Thompson are reportedly not close to a contract extension so this should be an interesting development that we will watch closely. He is going to come off the bench this season behind Anderson Varejao and Kevin Love, so Thompson won't have much fantasy value except in deeper leagues at the moment. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:03 am
  • Chandler Parsons: "I've got to be better"
Chandler Parsons said that "I've got to be better" after a disappointing performance against the Spurs on Tuesday.

Advice: It is going to take some time for him to gel with his new teammates so he deserves a pass on this one. Only four times during his three seasons with the Houston Rockets did Parsons make two or fewer field goals on 10 or more attempts, so Parsons should bounce back quickly. On a positive note, he didn't appear limited by his knee which is a great sign moving forward. Rotoworld.com

  • Brandan Wright solid in 18 minutes in opener
Brandan Wright opened the 2014-15 season with six points, five rebounds and one block in 18 minutes, as the Mavs lost by one point to the Spurs in San Antonio.

Advice: Injuries caused B-Wright to miss 24 games last year so it's great to see him healthy on opening night. His per-minute stats reveal nice fantasy upside, but he's unlikely to crack the top-100 while Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki are both healthy. Rotoworld.com

  • Tyson Chandler has big impact on Dallas
Tyson Chandler played fantastic in a loss against the Spurs on Tuesday, scoring eight points on 4-of-8 shooting with 10 rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes.

Advice: He did suffer a lower back injury and briefly left the game, but did return and appeared fine. Chandler was very active tonight and was a huge factor for Dallas on the boards. He struggled with foul trouble, which explains the low minutes, so he should be able to improve upon these numbers as the season progresses. Rotoworld.com

  • Chandler Parsons struggles in Dallas debut
Chandler Parsons struggled in his Dallas debut against the Spurs by managing to score only five points on 2-of-10 shooting, while adding four rebounds, two steals, one block, and one 3-pointer.

Advice: It was a rough night for Parsons as he simply couldn't get anything going. He didn't have the ball in his hands a lot tonight and failed to register a single assist. The only positive his owners can take from this game is that he did not appear to be limited by his knee Tuesday, and he will look to bounce back on Thursday vs. Utah. Rotoworld.com

  • Parsons (knee) goes through full practice
Chandler Parsons (sore knee) went through a full practice on Monday without any issues.

Advice: Parsons is fully expected to suit up for the regular-season opener, and he's going to be a big part of Dallas' offense. He's coming off a season in which he averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.8 three-pointers, and 1.2 steals, and he should have no problem returning to those numbers during his first season with the Mavs. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 3:39 pm
  • Josh McRoberts not taking contact at all
Josh McRoberts (toe) is doubtful for Wednesday's opener against the Wizards.

Advice: McBob isn't even taking contact in practice yet. The Heat continue to call him day-to-day, but he's been day-to-day since the surgery during the offseason. There is no firm timetable for McRoberts' return, and Shawne Williams looks like Miami's starting power forward to open the 2014-15 season. Rotoworld.com

  • Blatt looking to cut down on LeBron's minutes
David Blatt said that he'd like LeBron James to play fewer minutes than the 39.5 he's averaged during his career.

Advice: "I don't have a number but I am cognizant of the fact and we are conscious of the fact that, certainly early on 39 minutes a game is a lot," Blatt said. "We gotta keep our wits about us in terms of thinking long term with LeBron." It's a valid concern, but one that we're not worried about. Coaches often say things like this before the games matter, and LeBron will have no strict minutes limit at any point while healthy. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: No extension talks for Iman Shumpert
There has been "no conversation" between the Knicks and Iman Shumpert about a contract extension, sources told ESPN New York.

Advice: With five days until the deadline to get a deal done, we'd call it unlikely to happen. Shumpert has been in trade rumors for two straight seasons, and his future with the Knicks is uncertain at best. ESPN NY calls it "unlikely" the Knicks will match any "significant offers" in an effort to retain cap space to pursue additional stars. Rotoworld.com

  • Chandler Parsons (sore knee) practices Sunday
Chandler Parsons (sore knee) went through most of Sunday's practice.

Advice: Parsons banged knees with Luke Ridnour during Friday's exhibition but he should be fine for the Mavs' season opener. He's coming off a stellar performance, scoring 24 points in 25 minutes, giving him momentum as he enters the 2014-15 season a big part of the Dallas offense. Rotoworld.com

  • J.R. Smith doesn't know when to shoot
J.R. Smith said that he doesn't know when to shoot in the triangle offense.

Advice: "[I'm] Thinking too much," Smith said. "It’s just not [being] really sure where my shots come at. I don’t want to take it early, but I’m getting good looks early. Just got to keep running the offense and trust the offense. Hopefully it will come." Smith ended his forgettable preseason by going 1-of-11 from the field, and he has made numerous comments about struggling to adjust his game to the triangle offense. He'll likely eventually get things turned around, but there will be many poor showings to start off the year. Rotoworld.com

  • Carter-Williams will be re-evaluated Nov. 6
Michael Carter-Williams is set to go through a full practice on November 6, after which the 76ers will have a better idea on his return date.

Advice: Head coach Brett Brown was noncommittal when asked of MCW's current projected return date of November 13, and implied that he may play limited minutes upon his return. "The duration and when [he returns] is more about gut feels," said Brown. "It's certainly not going to take a month [from now] before he first comes back. I think we can give him some sporadic minutes quite soon." Tony Wroten will man the point guard position while Carter-Williams is on the shelf, and he makes for a decent short-term addition to fantasy squads. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 7:40 am
  • Michael Carter-Williams to scrimmage on 11/6
Michael Carter-Williams (shoulder) is expected to scrimmage on Nov. 6.

Advice: He is targeting a return of Nov. 13 for game action, but coach Brett Brown didn't seem very optimistic. "I believe that it's not going to take long to play him [once he starts scrimmaging Nov. 6]," Brown said. Carter-Williams hasn't been very positive about his shoulder injury and it's still possible he doesn't hit his target date. He's not a great target in fantasy drafts while Tony Wroten should start off hot. Rotoworld.com

  • Cavs not close to extension with Tristan
The Cavs and Tristan Thompson are not close to coming to terms on an extension.

Advice: It sounds like he will be a restricted free agent next summer. Thompson does have a big opportunity in front of him, but he will be coming off the bench. That said, he doesn't have a lot of presence in defensive stats and is inefficient, so we like other people later in drafts. Rotoworld.com

  • Iman Shumpert scoreless in 15 minutes vs. TOR
Iman Shumpert missed all six of his field goal attempts and failed to grab any rebounds in 15 scoreless minutes on Friday.

Advice: He had two assists and two steals but that's small recompense for fantasy owners. Shumpert has the inside track to start at SG but he shot just 37.8 percent last season and is only worth a look if you're in need of 3-pointers and steals. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 7:18 pm
  • J.R. Smith (back spasms) shoots just 1-of-11
J.R. Smith's back spasms visibly bothered him during Friday's preseason finale, and he missed 10 of his 11 shot attempts to finish with two points and four rebounds in 29 minutes.

Advice: Smith seems destined for a bench role under coach Derek Fisher, who has thus far favored Iman Shumpert at SG ahead of Smith and Tim Hardaway Jr. Smith won the Sixth-Man of the Year award in 2013 and can still return late-round fantasy value in a reserve role, though he said before the season that he wanted to be a starter. With an uncertain role and a back injury nagging at him to start the season, Smith isn't the most desirable fantasy option. Rotoworld.com

  • Chandler Parsons gets 24 points in 15 minutes
Chandler Parsons blew up for 24 points, two 3-pointers, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in just 25 minutes vs. the Magic on Friday.

Advice: He scored 15 points in an explosive third quarter and would have had a bigger night if the Mavs didn't have a convincing lead in the exhibition. Head coach Rick Carlisle criticized Parsons for being a few pounds above his ideal weight earlier in the preseason, but he's fit and ready for a big season in a featured offensive role with the Mavs. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 6:46 pm
  • Iman Shumpert likely to start at SG
Iman Shumpert is expected to start at shooting guard this season.

Advice: It makes sense because the Knicks need all the help they can get on the wing on defense. He's still a major project on offense, so fantasy owners shouldn't get too excited about this news. Rotoworld.com

  • J.R. Smith struggling with triangle offense
J.R. Smith admitted during a recent interview that he's been struggling with adjusting his game to the triangle offense.

Advice: "I mean, believe it or not, being the type of player I’ve been, it’s a struggle. I’m not going to lie," said Smith of adjusting his game to the triangle offense. "Trying to think about the rest of the team over myself or my scoring is something that I never really had to do before." Smith didn't really have any good games throughout the preseason, and with Tim Hardaway Jr. and Iman Shumpert nipping at his heels for playing time, he's not worth much more than a late-round flier in standard leagues for owners seeking some 3-point shooting. • Tristan Thompson will come off the bench
Tristan Thompson will begin the 2014-15 season coming off the bench for the Cavs.

Advice: Destined for a reserve role, Thompson will enter the 2014-15 season as more of a deep league asset. However, current starting center Anderson Varejao is about as injury prone as they come, so if/when Varejao goes down with an injury, Thompson will gain standard league relevancy as the teams' starting center. • Mavericks sitting everyone on Thursday
Dirk Nowitzki, Chandler Parsons, Tyson Chandler, Monta Ellis, Devin Harris, Jameer Nelson and Brandan Wright are all sitting out against the Pelicans on Thursday.

Advice: Hopefully, Pelicans owner Tom Benson doesn't grab the microphone and apologize to fans while wearing a chicken suit. Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Carter-Williams eyes Nov 13 return
Michael Carter-Williams (shoulder) is planning to return to action when the 76ers take on the Mavericks on November 13, according to sources.

Advice: This news would have the reigning Rookie of the Year missing just over a week of the regular season, so fantasy owners shouldn't be too concerned about him missing the start of the season. There is a chance that the Sixers will be cautious with MCW and hold him out beyond his targeted return date, so fantasy owners with an open spot would be wise to grab Tony Wroten as a short-term fill-in. • Brandon Jennings out Thursday vs Sixers
Brandon Jennings (sore achilles) will miss Thursday's preseason finale against the 76ers.

Advice: With the start of the regular season a week away, this sound like a precautionary move to keep Jennings from injuring himself further. While Jennings has plenty of talent and will produce some stellar games, potential fantasy owners need to be aware of the poor field goal percentage baggage that comes with spending a later middle round pick on Jennings. • LeBron James decides who has a big game
An unnamed teammate told the Akron Beacon-Journal that LeBron James has the ability to decide who he wants to have a big game.

Advice: "He can decide who he wants to get going and who he wants to have a big game," an unnamed teammate said. "You saw it a couple weeks ago with Kevin [Love] and the other night with Andy [Varejao]." James' ability as a floor general is well-supported by his career average of 6.9 assists per game, but he had previously said that the Cavaliers are Kyrie Irving's team so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Fantasy owners who draft Irving and Kevin Love may be in for some unpredictable nights, but each of the Cavs' "Big 3" are still one of the better fantasy options at their respective position. • J.J. Redick scores 13 before being tossed
J.J. Redick hit 4-of-10 shots and a 3-pointer for 13 points, four rebounds and three assists before being ejected from Wednesday's preseason win over the Suns.

Advice: Redick argued a foul call late and got a little too demonstrative for the official's liking. He was hit with a couple quick techs and sent to the locker room. Redick was well under control and shouldn't face any harsh punishment, so look for him to be ready to roll for the regular season. Rotoworld.com

  • Brandon Knight misses all eight shots
Brandon Knight missed all eight shots from the field against the Wolves on Wednesday with one points, five rebounds, six assists and one block in 32 minutes.

Advice: He turned it over four times and was torched by Ricky Rubio. Knight returned from a groin injury and he should be considered as the favorite as the starter at point guard. He's more of a lower-upside player to grab around pick 100. Rotoworld.com

  • Tristan Thompson quiet in 17 minutes
Tristan Thompson had nine points, five rebounds, two steals and zero blocks on 3-of-8 shooting in 17 minutes on Wednesday.

Advice: Anderson Varejao is starting at center and Kevin Love is going to eat up the power forward minutes, but Thompson will see minutes backing up both of them. And once Varejao goes down with an injury (don't kid yourself - it will happen), Thompson could find himself starting at center. Rotoworld.com

  • Brandon Knight, Ersan Ilyasova available Wed.
Brandon Knight (groin) and Ersan Ilyasova (knee) are both available to play against the Wolves on Wednesday.

Advice: He missed over one week with his groin injury and it's unclear if he'll be limited tonight. Nobody stepped up while Knight was on the shelf, so he is expected to start at point guard. Fantasy owners can target him in the later rounds of drafts. Rotoworld.com

  • Dalembert likely to average around 26 minutes
Samuel Dalembert is likely to play around 26 minutes per game this season, according to Phil Jackson, largely because of his tendency to rack up fouls.

Advice: Sammy has averaged 4.3 fouls per 36 minutes in his career, so that particular argument for limited minutes may be slightly overblown. In any case, he's the favorite to start at center and Jackson said the Knicks want him Dalembert to be "a 10-and-10 guy." If you throw a block or two into the mix, it's reasonable to think he'll flirt with late-round value this year. Rotoworld.com

  • Shumpert one of Phil Jackson's 'favorites'
Iman Shumpert is one of Phil Jackson's "favorites" on the Knicks' roster, and Jackson called him "simply our best on-ball defender" against SGs and bigger PGs.

Advice: Jackson criticized Shumpert's "very inconsistent" shooting mechanics, but he's confident that Shump will bounce back offensively after averaging just 6.7 points on 37.8 percent shooting last season. The starting SG job is Shumpert's to lose and his ability to chip in consistent 3-pointers and steals makes him a late-round option in deeper leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Carter-Williams does non-contact work
Michael Carter-Williams (right shoulder) went through non-contact portions of Tuesday's practice, but there's still no timetable for his return.

Advice: "It was good watching [Carter-Williams] direct an offense and take part in some non-physical drills," Brown said. "He's engaged. He's with the team. He is just not doing anything physical." MCW's high turnovers and low percentages are already a challenge in category-based leagues, and his nebulous timetable after shoulder surgery makes him a shaky option with so many healthy PGs available on draft day. • Josh McRoberts not likely for finale
Josh McRoberts is not likely to play in the Heat's preseason finale on Friday as he recovers from toe surgery.

Advice: While McBob is out, Shawne Williams is starting at PF for the Heat, but you have to think that will end once McRoberts is healthy and gets a few practices in. Rotoworld.com

  • J.J. Redick scores 21 points in losing effort
The Clippers fell to the Warriors on Tuesday despite J.J. Redick's preseason-high 21 points, three 3-pointers, three assists, two steals and one block.

Advice: Chris Paul and Blake Griffin were both resting so Redick took on a heavier offensive load, sinking 6-of-15 FGs and 6-of-7 FTs, though he failed to grab any rebounds in 33 minutes. When healthy he's a decent late-round option in 8-cat and 9-cat leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Josh McRoberts (toe surgery) still sidelined
Josh McRoberts will sit out again on Tuesday as he recovers from toe surgery.

Advice: The Heat have suggested that McRoberts' recovery will extend into the regular season, leaving a major gap at PF. Shawne Williams may start on opening night if McRoberts isn't ready to go, supported by Udonis Haslem, and both Luol Deng and Danny Granger have spent time as backup PFs during the preseason. • LeBron James will rest Wed. vs. Grizzlies
Cavs coach David Blatt plans to rest LeBron James vs. the Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Advice: LBJ has played in five preseason games despite a minor back injury that bothered him during training camp, and it's not surprising to see him get a night off. His absence should open up more minutes for veterans James Jones, Shawn Marion and Mike Miller. Rotoworld.com

  • J.R. Smith leaves practice with back spasms
J.R. Smith (back) experienced back spasms during Tuesday's practice and may miss Wednesday's exhibition game against the Wizards.

Advice: Smith was sidelined by back spasms during last week's exhibition game against the 76ers, so this isn't a new injury. While the back spasms are a concern with the regular season a week away, Smith's role on the Knicks is the more worrisome issue. While the 29-year-old can still be a solid source of three-pointers in a bench role, the presence of Tim Hardaway Jr. and Iman Shumpert will keep Smith from being more than a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues. • LeBron James is NBA's most popular player
LeBron James was voted the NBA's most popular player in a recent poll conducted by ESPN.

Advice: 18.4 percent of surveyed fans named James their favorite NBA player, which almost doubled the 9.4 percent vote he received in 2010-11 due to The Decision. While the years have likely softened some voters, a return to his hometown Cavaliers likely accounted for a jump among voters aged 35-54. The popularity vote won't help his fantasy value, but James should still be the first player selected in fantasy drafts with Kevin Durant injured. Rotoworld.com
