    • Donovan Mitchell scores 33, but Cavs drop Game 3
      Donovan Mitchell finished Saturday’s loss to Boston with 33 points, six rebounds, three assists, two steals and seven triples across 43 minutes.

      Advice: Mitchell was Cleveland’s go-to option, and he led the team in scoring once again. Spida was an efficient 12-of-22 from the floor, including a blistering 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. It was an outstanding individual effort, but the rest of the team did next to nothing to help the superstar out. Isaac Okoro, Darius Garland and Max Strus combined for just 23 points on 9-of-30 shooting. Mitchell averaged nearly 29 points per game in his first-round series with Orlando, and he’s averaged 31.7 points through his first three games of the Eastern Conference semis.       Advice: Washington enjoyed another splendid shooting night beyond the arc after draining seven shots from downtown in Game 2. The 23 shot attempts matched a season high for Washington, who is averaging 13.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.5 steals, 1.3 assists and 1.0 blocks in the playoffs.       PJ Washington accumulated 27 points (11-of-23 FGs), six rebounds, two assists, and five 3-pointers in 40 minutes in Saturday’s Game 3 win over the Thunder.

      Advice: Faced with defending Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Oklahoma City has not devoted as much attention to Washington. Given how well he’s played in the last two games, that could change for Game 4 on Monday. After hitting seven 3-pointers and scoring 29 points in Game 2, he made five more in Game 3 while leading the Mavericks in scoring. Washington attempted 23 shots on the afternoon, tied for the most of any player who saw action. PJ has been much better than expected, and Oklahoma City could take the approach of him regressing to the mean eventually. However, the last two games show this is a dangerous strategy.       Carter will undergo surgery to stabilize the third metacarpal in his left hand, Jason Beede of the Orlando Sentinel reported Saturday. Carter is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season.

      Advice: In simpler terms, Carter will have a procedure to fully fix his left hand -- the same hand he sustained a fractured middle finger on early this season -- and is expected to be ready for the 2024-25 campaign. Carter missed a month and a half after sustaining the injury (which required surgery) in November but was able to return and appear in 55 games (48 starts) overall.       Advice: Hardaway stepped his game up off the bench and provided a scoring boost to the second unit, and his contributions proved to be much-needed as the Mavericks evened the series with a huge road win.       Advice: After missing the last four games of Dallas’ first-round series against the Clippers with a sprained ankle, Hardaway offered little production in Tuesday’s second-round opener against Oklahoma City. He stepped up when needed in Game 2, scoring 17 points on a night when Kyrie Irving shot 2-of-8 from the field. Hardaway and PJ Washington combined to score 46 points, so Dallas heads home for Game 3 in a tie series instead of sitting in a 0-2 hole. The Mavericks host Game 3 on Saturday afternoon.       Advice: Washington fouled out with a little over two minutes remaining in Dallas’ Game 2 victory, but he did plenty of damage before that point. He matched his career-high with seven 3-pointers, stepping up offensively on a night when Kyrie Irving failed to reach double figures. Washington’s arrival from Charlotte at the trade deadline helped the Mavericks defensively, and he has also been an effective catch-and-shoot option next to Irving and Luka Doncic. Mitchell has done it all for the Cavaliers through two games against the Celtics, averaging 31 points so far in the conference semifinals.
