  • Kidd talking up Rashad Vaughn
Coach Jason Kidd said projected starting shooting guard Rashad Vaughn has shown improvement in the last 4-5 weeks.

Advice: Kidd added he thinks the game is slowing down for Vaughn and the second-year guard has increased confidence. Vaughn had a disastrous post-break run last year with an ugly 35.3 true shooting percentage. He's going to have to play well or else the Bucks might give Malcolm Brogdon a chance over him. • Iguodala: Patrick McCaw is going to play
Andre Iguodala said Patrick McCaw is "gonna play" this season.

Advice: "You can tell with him. He's a smart player," Iguodala added. The Warriors were comfortable losing their depth this summer and some of it might have to do with McCaw. He was a steal at No. 38 due to some off-court concerns, and he is an excellent fit on the Warriors. On the nights coach Steve Kerr rests his guys, McCaw might be a sneaky DFS guy. • Devin Harris expected to practice on Friday
Devin Harris (foot) is expected to practice on Friday.

Advice: He had three surgeries this summer with his left big toe surgery as the most significant one. Harris said his oft-injured foot was feeling good up until he suffered turf toe, and then everything went south. He said he expects to be 100 percent for the opener on Oct. 26, but he's not worthy of a fantasy draft pick almost anywhere. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:36 pm

  • David Fizdale praises James Ennis' effort
David Fizdale said that "no one" could keep James Ennis "off the glass" during Wednesday's practice, and that his "motor was incredible."

Advice: Ennis said he focused on improving his ball handling skills and 3-point shooting this offseason, and it's worth pointing out that he's familiar with his head coach as he began his career in Miami where Fizdale served as an assistant on Erik Spoelstra's staff. Ennis had a nice stretch in April last year where he averaged 17.0 points, 1.7 steals and 2.6 triples per game, so he'll be a name to watch if Chandler Parsons ever goes down with an injury. • McDermott expects Butler's FTAs to increase
Doug McDermott said that he expects Jimmy Butler to be more aggressive drawing fouls this season.

Advice: "I think he’s shot like 15 free throws in each scrimmage," said McDermott of Butler. With Derrick Rose now in New York, the team in Chicago officially belongs to Jimmy Buckets, and he's been embracing that leadership role throughout camp. Yes, he'll face some competition for touches with Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo, but he's the clear-cut No. 1 guy in that offense, and should have little trouble returning second-round value. Rotoworld.com Today, 3:33 pm
  • Alan Anderson (ankle) withheld from practice
Alan Anderson (ankle, rest) did not participate during Thursday's practice as a precautionary measure.

Advice: Anderson struggled to stay on the court last season after being forced to undergo two surgeries on his left ankle, and it is a bit concerning that this is still an issue at all considering that his last procedure was on October 13 of 2015. He's likely locked into a three-way timeshare with Wes Johnson and Luc Mbah a Moute, so there's no reason to burn a draft pick on Anderson in any setting. Rotoworld.com Today, 3:11 pm
  • Report: Hairston agrees to camp deal w/ HOU
P.J. Hairston has reportedly agreed to a training camp deal with the Rockets.

Advice: The Rockets do have available roster space, so if Hairston impresses during training camp, he could earn himself a spot on the regular-season roster. However, with guys like Eric Gordon and Corey Brewer expected to soak up most of the reserve minutes in Houston's backcourt, Hairston would be nothing more than an emergency depth kind of guy with the Rockets. • Marcus Thornton sits out Thursday practice
Marcus Thornton (thumb) sat out of Thursday's practice

Advice: Thornton is dealing with a jammed thumb, and was held out as a precaution. This doesn't sound like it will be a long-term injury, but Thornton won't have much fantasy value in standard leagues as long as Bradley Beal is healthy. Rotoworld.com Today, 10:57 am
  • Bradley Beal held out of Thursday practice
Bradley Beal (concussion) was held out of Thursday's practice.

Advice: Beal is in the concussion protocol and will be unable to work out until he's cleared. While the 23-year-old is still an injury risk, he has enough upside to warrant a mid-round pick in standard fantasy leagues after averaging 17.4 points, 2.9 assists, 1.9 triples and 1.0 steal in 55 games last season. Rotoworld.com Today, 10:35 am
  • Jerryd Bayless dealing with wrist soreness
Jerryd Bayless (wrist) didn't practice on Thursday due to soreness in his wrist.

Advice: Bayless is dealing with soreness in his left wrist, but his injury isn't thought to be anything serious. He's likely to head into the season as the 76ers starting point guard, but his fantasy value is limited to the later rounds as Philadelphia will primarily run their offense through Ben Simmons. Rotoworld.com Today, 10:04 am
  • Evan Turner confident at multiple positions
Evan Turner is confident that he can contribute at multiple positions for the Trail Blazers.

Advice: "I came out of [Ohio State] a point guard, and the experts said I was a wing,’’ Turner said. "I never shot a spot-up shot in my life. I am what I am. I grew up playing with the rock. I knew how to play all the positions, and I think if I get minutes on the court, I can make a lot happen.’’ Turner is a better real life player than fantasy player, but he's worth a late-round draft pick in standard fantasy leagues due to his ability to do a little bit of everything (other than hit threes). Rotoworld.com Today, 6:24 am
  • Jeremy Lamb looking to show consistency
Jeremy Lamb is looking to show more consistency in 2016-17.

Advice: Lamb faded after a strong start to 2015-16 and is focused on sustaining consistency in 2016-17. "When you change your mindset, it doesn’t happen overnight. I’ve been working on it all summer. In training camp, you’ve got to build on that," Lamb said. "If you’re missing shots, you’ve got to keep shooting. If you don’t get a stop, believe you’ll get a stop next time. Help your teammates. Do all the little things that keep you positive." Lamb has potential, but he he isn't worth much more than a late-round flier in standard fantasy leagues until he can show some consistency in his production. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:03 am

  • Suns will rely less on PG-initiated offense
The Suns' offense will rely less on Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe initiating action at the top of the key this season, according to GM Ryan McDonough.

Advice: "I think you’ll see more of the ball with wing entry, corner entries," said McDonough. "A lot of play off the elbows with the movement off the ball, dribble handoffs, interchanges and things like that." The Suns' veteran guards have spoken about the need to "sacrifice" this season, presumably because of Devin Booker's ascendancy, and fantasy owners should pay close attention to the backcourt rotation this preseason. • Gerald Green will miss time with hip issue
Gerald Green will miss the next few days due to a hip flexor injury.

Advice: It doesn't sound serious and there's no talk of any re-evaluation. Green is going to have a chance to step up with Evan Turner in Portland, but he will really have to play lights out in camp. For now, he's behind guys like Terry Rozier, Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown for minutes on the wing. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:59 pm

  • Eric Bledsoe down to 189 pounds
Eric Bledsoe said he's down to 189 pounds.

Advice: He listed at 205 last year and mentioned he'd like to keep his weight down. "I’m trying to keep that going for me, eating right, recovery, the whole nine, trying to get my body 100 percent," Bledsoe said. He takes a lot of contact and that's part of the reason he's suffered multiple meniscus tears. Talent and production have never been a question for Bledsoe, but he has to stay healthy. • Danny Green (quad) limited to shooting Weds
Danny Green (left quad contusion) got on the court for a post-practice shooting session on Wednesday, although he's still yet to work out with the team.

Advice: Green is nursing a left quad injury, and while it's not believed to be serious, he likely won't take the court until he's 100 percent healthy. Green likely earned himself a spot on many fantasy GM's "never again" lists after a horrendous 2015-16 campaign, but let's not forget that he was a steady mid-round producer from the 2012 season all the way through 2015. He's someone to consider targeting towards the later rounds as a potential bounce-back candidate. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 11:59 am

  • Malcolm Brogdon can handle the ball?
Coach Jason Kidd hinted Malcolm Brogdon could handle the ball for the Bucks at times.

Advice: Hall of Fame guard John Stockton was at camp for the Bucks and Kidd mentioned Stockton helping Brogdon, Matthew Dellavedova and "a pretty big point guard" -- yes, that big point guard is Giannis Antetokounmpo. Brogdon was fantastic at Summer League and showed a lot of poise at Virginia last year. Plus, he might be one of the best shooters on the team. He's a name fantasy owners will want to throw on their watch list. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 11:42 am
  • Uncle P thinks he can be better
Nick Young believes he can be better under coach Luke Walton.

Advice: In other news, he said he wants to go by Uncle P this year. "I can still be me here a little bit and nobody here is harping on my personality no more. That’ll be all right," Young said. You might remember Byron Scott saying Young's hair looked "like a bunch of worms up there." Even with a new nickname and a new coach, he can be avoided in fantasy. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 11:05 am

  • Austin Rivers, Felton could earn some starts?
Doc Rivers hinted that there will be situations this upcoming season where he starts either Austin Rivers or Raymond Felton.

Advice: "When you play Austin with that group, he can guard a better offensive player and [Chris Paul] can do what the rest of the league does – their point guards never guard the other point guard," Rivers said. "We want to do that a lot this year. We want to put a lineup where CP doesn’t have to guard the best guy. Raymond can do that, and Austin can do that." Even with a handful of spot-starts, it's unlikely that Felton or Rivers will be able to establish themselves as worthwhile standard league assets. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:20 am
  • Brooks says Satoransky can earn mins at SF
Scott Brooks said that in addition to earning some time at shooting guard, Tomas Satoransky will compete for minutes at small forward position as well.

Advice: Satoransky will be fighting for reserve minutes with the likes of Trey Burke, Marcus Thornton and Kelly Oubre, so it'll be tough for him to establish himself as a worthwhile asset in most settings. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 10:15 am
  • Gentry wants Galloway facilitating on offense
Alvin Gentry is encouraging Langston Galloway to take on more of a facilitating role in the Pelicans' offense.

Advice: "At first I didn’t think I would need the ball to be in my hands as much as I do, needing to facilitate," said Galloway. "Now I’m learning. Coach Gentry is staying on me, telling me ‘When you have the ball in your hands, you make great decisions.’ I keep the ball in my hands as much as possible and try to find my open teammates." Galloway could have a bit of an increased role in New Orleans while Jrue Holiday (personal) is out, but he's just been too inconsistent throughout his career to consider drafting him in standard leagues. • CLE has made competitive offer to J.R. Smith
Cavs' GM David Griffin said that the team has made an "incredibly competitive and aggressive offer" to re-sign unrestricted free agent J.R. Smith.

Advice: "As we have stated and coach has previously stated, we think very highly of J.R. and we love him as a member of our team, as a member of our locker room," Griffin said. "He was essential to our success and for that reason we have made an incredibly competitive and aggressive offer in re-signing him." Smith is seeking a multi-year deal that will pay him roughly $15 million annually, and while the two sides have not found a common ground there, they remain engaged in a dialogue. It would be surprising to see Smith leave Cleveland. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:28 am

  • Klay Thompson clarifies sacrificing comments
Klay Thompson recently clarified his comments regarding why he believes he will not be sacrificing anything with the arrival of Kevin Durant.

Advice: "When you acquire the talent we did this off season, " Thompson began, "I don't think that's a sacrifice at all. I think that we are in an amazing position to do things that haven't been done here. So I'm not talking about points per game or minutes or shots, I'm really not sacrificing anything because you don't sacrifice when you acquire a player like Kevin Durant and get people like David West." The Warriors improved their roster significantly this offseason, and that will likely result in Thompson seeing fewer opportunities on offense, making him a somewhat risky early-round selection. • Barnes believes he can help Kings' chemistry
Matt Barnes believes that he will be able to help the Kings' team chemistry.

Advice: "I think I have a unique way of – no matter what team I’ve been on and who’s been on that team, even playing with Kobe [Bryant] and those guys – of having my voice being respected." Barnes added that he has an uncanny ability to get through to people and that he wants to lead by example this season. Barnes is one of coach Dave Joerger's favorite players, so he could have some sneaky fantasy value once Rudy Gay is inevitably traded. He also wants to be known as the "Cousins whisperer", so there's that. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:56 pm
  • Kawhi Leonard focused on becoming a leader
Kawhi Leonard said he focused on becoming a leader during the offseason to prepare for life without Tim Duncan.

Advice: "Just becoming a leader," Leonard said. "Just making sure I know what’s going on on the floor in every position. Just being ready to really get my mentality at leading this group this year, that’s pretty much it." Leonard was dominant last season and finished as the third best player in standard leagues, averaging 21.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 blocks, 1.8 steals and 1.8 3-pointers on 50.6 percent shooting from the field. He's a stud and standard-league owners should feel comfortable taking him in the first round. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:33 pm
  • Danny Green has a left quad contusion
Danny Green is dealing with a left quad contusion.

Advice: He suffered the injury during a workout last week and sat out of the first day of training camp (Tuesday). The injury doesn't sound serious, but Green is expected to miss a few days of action. For what it's worth, he was able to put up some 3-pointers at practice, so the Spurs are likely just being cautious. Green had Lasik eye surgery over the offseason and is hoping to bounce back after a rough 2015-16 season. He's a nice target at his discounted price in the later rounds. • Butler wants Hoiberg to coach him harder
Jimmy Butler hinted that he wants Fred Hoiberg to coach him harder this season.

Advice: "I told Fred, 'As much as you can, use me as an example,'" Butler said. "I want you to really get on my tail about every little thing because if Doug [McDermott] or Tony [Snell] or whoever it may be, if watching coach talk to me like that he's going to be like 'If he can talk to Jimmy like that I know he's going to come at me a certain way.'" Butler said something similar last season which put him in some hot water, but the difference this time is that he spoke directly to his head coach as opposed to the media. Their relationship has evolved in a good way and Butler is embracing his leadership role on the new-look Bulls. He's an easy second-round pick even with the additions of Dwyane Wade and Rajon Rondo. • Evan Turner will play some PG for Blazers
Blazers coach Terry Stotts said that Evan Turner will share backup point guard duties with CJ McCollum.

Advice: It's the right decision for Portland because Shabazz Napier has really struggled at the NBA level. Turner is considered the favorite to start at SF, but will face a lot of competition from Allen Crabbe and Moe Harkless. Turner averaged 10.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.1 turnovers on 45.6 percent shooting with the Celtics last season, but his ceiling in standard leagues is limited because he doesn't take many 3-pointers. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 4:33 pm
  • Doc Rivers says starting SF job 'wide open'
Doc Rivers said that the battle for the starting small forward position in Los Angeles is "wide open."

Advice: Both Luc Mbah a Moute and Anderson got some reps with the first unit during Tuesday's practice, and Wes Johnson is also another option for Rivers. Last season, Rivers routinely changed the starting small forward based on matchups, and that could again be his strategy this season. This situation has timeshare written all over it, and is one that should be avoided in standard settings. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 4:20 pm
  • McDonough says Brandon Knight looking healthy
Ryan McDonough said that Brandon Knight has looked "really close" to being 100 percent healthy during recent workouts.

Advice: "Last year, he settled a lot for [jump shots] and things like that," said McDonough, "just because he didn’t feel like he had the burst to get to the paint, get to the free-throw line, absorb contact, bounce back up without potentially aggravating an injury." Knight's first 1.5 seasons in Phoenix have been ravaged by injuries, and while he's going to be coming into the 2016-17 season healthy, some questions remain about his fit alongside Eric Bledsoe and where he figures to be in the rotation with the emergence of Devin Booker. He's a risky mid-round target. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 3:09 pm
  • Bradley Beal wants to take 20 shots
Bradley Beal could take 20 shots per game this season.

Advice: "It’s just me just getting out of my shell," Beal said about the possible shot increase. "Just getting out of this boy stage a little bit. This young mindset of mine. It’ll come out eventually. I have a monster I need to unleash." Beal only had nine games with at least 20 shots last year, so that's a tall order. Plus, the Wizards should be limiting him based on his leg injury. He's still a decent option in the middle rounds. Rotoworld.com Monday, 3:57 pm
  • Rashad Vaughn will start at SG
Rashad Vaughn is expected to start at shooting guard this season.

Advice: With Khris Middleton (hamstring) possibly out for the majority of the season, there are a ton of minutes available in Milwaukee. Vaughn will still have to prove himself in camp and he's coming off a rough season with averages of 3.1 points per game on 30.5 percent shooting. Don't be surprised if he loses minutes to Malcolm Brogdon and Jason Terry. Rotoworld.com Monday, 1:35 pm
  • Eric Bledsoe says Suns will have to sacrifice
Eric Bledsoe said the Suns players are "definitely going to have to make sacrifices this season."

Advice: "That's one of the biggest things we're going to have to do," Bledsoe said. Presumably, the Suns' only 20 points-per-game scorer last season is saying the guards will have to share the ball due to the emergence of Devin Booker. While the Suns are exploring Booker at small forward on occasion, it would be a big surprise to see him start there -- even with P.J. Tucker (back) out. For now, it seems like Brandon Knight is the best bet to move to a bench combo guard role. Bledsoe's biggest risk remains his injury history, but he's still a fine pick as a No. 1 fantasy point guard in the early rounds. Rotoworld.com Monday, 11:20 am
  • LeBron optimistic J.R. deal gets done
LeBron James is optimistic something will get done with free agent J.R. Smith "sooner than later."

Advice: There really has never been any serious doubt on Smith coming back to Cleveland. Smith has said he still wants to get a deal done with the Cavs and he's been in Cleveland recently. Considering how Mo Williams is going to retire, the Cavs need depth at guard. Smith is a late-round pick in standard leagues. Rotoworld.com Monday, 11:12 am

  • Report: P.J. Hairston works out for Brooklyn
P.J. Hairston recently had a workout with the Nets.

Advice: Hairston may be able to turn this workout into a camp invite, but even if he does make the regular-season roster, his fantasy value would be more or less non-existent in Brooklyn. The Nets also reportedly brought in Jorge Gutierrez and Kendal Marshall for workouts, although with five point guards already on the roster going into camp, it would be surprising to see those guys earn a camp invite. • J.R. Smith to skip Cavaliers' minicamp
J.R. Smith will not attend the Cavaliers' minicamp this week.

Advice: Cavs players and coaches are gathering for workouts for several days this week according to ESPN, but Smith could even miss the beginning of their official training camp to improve his leverage in contract talks. The two sides are reportedly still far apart and no recent progress has been made. Smith wants to return and is looking for a multiyear deal, but it doesn't sound like he's interested in taking a discount and he could explore other options if the talks don't progress soon. For what it's worth, a move away from Cleveland is pretty unlikely, but it could be a good thing for his fantasy value. Rotoworld.com Sep 19, 8:18 am
