  • Robert Sacre plays well in 18 minutes Sunday
Lakers C Robert Sacre had his most complete game of the season vs. the Nuggets on Sunday, scoring 13 points with three boards, one assist, three steals and one block in just 18 minutes off the bench.

Advice: He saw extra minutes with Carlos Boozer (shoulder) unavailable and Ed Davis in foul trouble and dealing with a minor ankle injury. Sacre hadn't played more than 16 minutes in a game all season and has struggled to gain coach Byron Scott's trust, which makes him a non-factor in all but the deepest leagues.
  • Nick Calathes returns from 20-game suspension
Grizzlies PG Nick Calathes played eight minutes in his season debut on Sunday, having served his 20-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy.

Advice: Calathes entered to an ovation from the home crowd in Memphis, but finished scoreless with just one rebound to his credit. He and Beno Udrih (11 points, five assists in 20 minutes) will compete for backup PG minutes behind Mike Conley, but right now Udrih is the guy to own in deep leagues.
  • Quincy Pondexter (illness) back in action Sun
Quincy Pondexter (illness) returned to action on Sunday, scoring 11 points with one 3-pointer and two rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench.

Advice: Q-Pon's minutes briefly surged with five Grizzlies ailing last week, but he's irrelevant in standard-sized fantasy leagues now that they're back at full strength. He and Vince Carter (two points in nine minutes) tend to trade off decent games, which makes them both unsavory fantasy options.
  • Shannon Brown terrible in fill-in start at SG
Shannon Brown was dreadful in another start at SG on Sunday, turning the ball over three times to go along with zero points, rebounds or assists.

Advice: He played 17 minutes, so opportunities weren't the issue, but he'll fade back into Miami's bench once Dwyane Wade (hamstring) and/or Norris Cole (finger) are healthy enough to play. Our condolences if you tried to wring some value out of him as a starter over the past two games.
  • Report: Whiteside receiving interest from MIA
Hassan Whiteside is reportedly receiving interest from the Miami Heat.

Advice: It's worth noting that Justin Hamilton's contract doesn't become guaranteed until Dec. 1, so if Hassan signs with the Heat, he could potentially push Hamilton out. However, neither of these guys are going to be relevant to owners in standard leagues.
  • Douglas-Roberts (Achilles) w/out timetable
Chris Douglas-Roberts (Achilles) resumed spot shooting on Sunday, but he still cannot move laterally.

Advice: CDR remains without an official timetable for his return, and gave a rather ominous quote today stating: "I haven’t even asked for a timeline because I don’t want to hear something that I don’t want to hear." Douglas-Roberts will fight for minutes with Matt Barnes, and Jamal Crawford upon his eventual return, so there's not much upside here. He can remain on the waiver wire in most leagues.
  • Nick Calathes' suspension over, activated Sun
Nick Calathes' has served his 13-game suspension and will be available to play Sunday vs. the Clippers, sending Jordan Adams to the inactives list.

Advice: Head coach David Joerger said that he'll be bringing Calathes back slowly, so there's not much upside here. He'll serve as a third-string point guard, playing behind Mike Conley and Beno Udrih, so he can remain on the waiver wire in most leagues.
  • Vitor Faverani (knee) hoping to return by Jan
Celtics' head coach Brad Stevens said that Vitor Faverani (knee) may be back by the beginning of January, but would not commit to an official date.

Advice: Faverani's return date remains a mystery, but once is able to finally suit up he'll likely be eased back into the rotation. He's currently buried on the depth chart behind Jared Sullinger, Kelly Olynyk, Brandon Bass, and Tyler Zeller, and given his limited upside and uncertain return date, he’s not worth owning in almost any league.

  • Luigi Datome (ankle) questionable for Tuesday
Luigi Datome (ankle) is questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Bucks.

Advice: Datome currently is not a rotation player for the Pistons, and he can remain on the waiver wire in all leagues until he proves otherwise.
  • Celtics assign James Young to D-League
The Celtics have re-assigned rookie James Young to their D-League affiliate.

Advice: Young will get some playing time with the Red Claws that he wouldn't get in Boston, but he'll likely rejoin the Celtics in a matter of days.
  • Xavier Henry struggles to regain explosion
Lakers coach Byron Scott isn't sure that Xavier Henry will regain his former explosive athleticism following right knee surgery.

Advice: "I loved his athleticism and the fact that he could attack the basket," Scott said. "His relentlessness to attack the basket contributed to the injuries as well." Henry said that he can already move "better and quicker" at this stage in his recovery, and he doesn't plan to change his game, but fantasy owners can watch his development from afar -- he's averaging under 10 minutes per game and recently had a stint in the D-League.
  • Dexter Pittman signs w/ Turkish team
Former Heat C Dexter Pittman has signed with the Turkish team Kolejliler.

Advice: Pittman was waived by the Hawks after training camp in October and may have a hard time earning a guaranteed NBA contract at this stage of his career.
  • Jerome Jordan earning minutes as backup C
Nets C Jerome Jordan scored five points and grabbed five rebounds in 13 minutes on Saturday, earning more minutes than backup C Mason Plumlee.

Advice: Lionel Hollins said after the game that Jordan deserves to be in the rotation, and it's easy to see why -- he's playing solid ball on both ends, while Plumlee is struggling and shooting just 37.5 percent from the field. This position battle is only worth monitoring in the deepest of leagues.
  • Jimmer Fredette back in Pellies' rotation
Jimmer Fredette played for the first time in four games on Saturday, going scoreless with one rebound, one assist and one steal in eight minutes.

Advice: He returned to the bench rotation after Eric Gordon separated his shoulder, which moved Austin Rivers into the starting SG spot. Gordon is likely to miss significant time and Rivers is worth a speculative add in deeper leagues, but we'll need to see more from Fredette to put him on the radar.
  • Vitor Faverani (knee) has not timetable
Vitor Faverani (knee surgery) still has no timetable for his return.

Advice: He hasn't played basketball since tearing his meniscus in February, so even medical clearance to play will be followed by a lengthy training process. "This is my first injury," Faverani said. "I’m just happy because we have great doctors, great therapy guys ... All I can do is recover. We’ll just wait on my knee."

  • Andrei Kirilenko may not rejoin Brooklyn
Andrei Kirilenko still hasn't rejoined the Nets for "personal reasons" and the team is likely to either trade him or waive his contract.

Advice: A deal has been discussed with Philadelphia, involving Kirilenko and Sergey Karasev, but that wouldn't happen until Dec. 15 at the earliest. The Sixers' rotations are chaotic enough that AK and Karasev would be unlikely to hold reliable value in standard leagues, assuming they are even dealt to Philly.
  • Sergey Karasev returned to action on Saturday November 22.
  • Shannon Brown plays big minutes
Shannon Brown played 37 minutes against the Magic on Saturday with seven points, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer.

Advice: He started because the Heat basically had no other option and apparently he is going to see major playing time. Brown won't be used on many possessions, so he'll need to bury a lot of triples to have value in even 16-team leagues.
  • Shannon Brown will start for Heat
Shannon Brown will start next to Mario Chalmers, Luol Deng, Shawne Williams and Chris Bosh against the Magic on Saturday.

Advice: The Heat needs to bring Shabazz Napier off the bench and they won't play James Ennis at SG, so Brown is their only choice. If you're looking for a spot start, Napier is the better play. Obviously, Mario Chalmers should be starting everywhere tonight.
  • Vitor Faverani still not close to returning
Vitor Faverani (knee) has only been doing work on a bike and in the pool.

Advice: He did say he's 100 percent, but actions speak louder than words... or something. Faverani is not close to returning and he could wind up in the D-League anyway.

  • Quincy Pondexter won't play on Friday
Quincy Pondexter (illness) will not play on Friday against the Celtics.

Advice: He has the nasty stomach bug now and could miss additional time because he doesn't get much playing time to begin with. Pondexter is only worth owning in very deep leagues.
    Friday, 4:55 pm
  • Nets looking to deal Karasev?
The Nets could deal Sergey Karasev to the 76ers.

Advice: He's not playing for the Nets and there's a decent chance he'll get playing time with the 76ers. Karasev is still not very talented, so he would only be a speculative add in a ridiculously deep league. The Nets are hoping to land a trade exception in the deal.
    Friday, 1:22 pm
  • Sixers looking to acquire Kirilenko, Karasev?
The Sixers and Nets have been in talks to make a deal involving Andrei Kirilenko and Sergey Karasev.

Advice: Russian owner Mikhail Prokorov is probably not too thrilled about this. Kirilenko's time in Brooklyn is about done and he will likely be waived by the 76ers. He's not really worth owning in any league.
    Friday, 1:16 pm
  • Andrei Kirilenko is not traveling w/ the Nets
Andrei Kirilenko (personal) is not traveling with the Nets on their current road trip, and head coach Lionel Hollins doesn't know when/if he'll return.

Advice: Kirilenko has completely fallen out of the Nets rotation, and sources are saying the situation may not be resolved until he's on another team. AK-47 isn't worth owning in any league, as most of his season averages fall on the right side of the decimal point, and when he's in uniform there's no guarantee he steps on the court. It's looking like he may have played his last game wearing a Brooklyn jersey.
    Friday, 10:13 am
  • Quincy Pondexter (illness) doubtful for Fri.
Quincy Pondexter (illness) is being listed as doubtful for Friday's game vs. the Celtics.

Advice: Courtney Lee said that Pondexter is dealing with the worst part of the illness today, so it would be a bit shocking if he were to suit up. If Pondexter sits, there will be more minutes to go around for Vince Carter and Courtney Lee.
    Friday, 9:50 am
  • Shannon Brown starts the second half
Shannon Brown started the second half against the Clippers on Thursday, finishing with nine points, two steals and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes.

Advice: He was the only shooting guard on the roster because the team used Mario Chalmers at point guard to start the second half. If Norris Cole (finger) needs to miss time, chances are coach Erik Spoelstra will re-work his rotation and not count on Brown as much. He can be ignored in almost all leagues.
    Thursday, 8:10 pm
  • Quincy Pondexter is questionable for Friday
Quincy Pondexter (illness) is listed as questionable to face the Celtics on Friday.

Advice: He looks like he's a little behind schedule on the illness, so Pondexter might have a smaller chance to play. He's not a fantasy option as long as Courtney Lee and Tony Allen are out there.
    Thursday, 4:34 pm
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts (Achilles) out Thursday
Chris Douglas-Roberts (Achilles) will not play Thursday vs. the Clippers.

Advice: Douglas-Roberts has not stepped on the court since Nov. 5, and remains without an official return date. The Clippers are stacked on the wings, so even upon his eventual return, CDR will have zero fantasy value. Leave him on the wire.
    Thursday, 4:02 pm
  • Grizzlies waive C Hassan Whiteside
The Grizzlies have waived C Hassan Whiteside.

Advice: Whiteside was signed on Wednesday, and released on Thursday. He's not likely to sign on with another team.
    Thursday, 3:13 pm
  • Quincy Pondexter struggles in start for MEM
Quincy Pondexter started for the flu-depleted Grizzlies on Wednesday and had just four points and one rebound on 2-of-6 shooting in 25 minutes.

Advice: Courtney Lee, Tony Allen and a few others were out with the illness tonight, so QP drew the start. He looked like a sneaky daily play, but that plan didn't work out as planned.
    Wednesday, 11:24 pm
  • Grizzlies add C Hassan Whiteside for depth
The Grizzlies signed C Hassan Whiteside to provide emergency depth vs. the Raptors on Wednesday.

Advice: Kosta Koufos (flu) and Jon Leuer (flu) are both out, which leaves Whiteside as the Grizzlies' lone backup center. He may block a few shots and snare a few rebounds, but that's about it.
    Wednesday, 3:41 pm
  • Quincy Pondexter in line for big minutes Wed.
Quincy Pondexter should play heavy minutes for the Grizzlies on Wednesday, as they're down to only nine healthy players.

Advice: Five guys are out with the flu including Courtney Lee and Tony Allen, which opens up a major opportunity for Q-Pon on the wings. He's well worth considering as a fill-in option in daily leagues, but doesn't have enough long-term value to bother with anywhere else.
    Wednesday, 3:39 pm
  • Vitor Faverani is listed as out for Wednesday
Vitor Faverani is listed as out for Wednesday's game.

Advice: He is out indefinitely and there has been no indication as to when we will see him again. When he does return, he will likely ride the pine and will have almost no fantasy value this season. Feel confident in leaving him on the waiver wire.

  • Andrei Kirilenko still out of Nets rotation
Andre Kirilenko told reporters that he doesn't know what to do to get back in the Nets' rotation.

Advice: Kirilenko said he spoke with Nets' head coach Lionel Hollins about the situation and appreciated the coach's honesty, but is still disappointed. AK-47 has played just 27 minutes this season, so fantasy owners can feel free to move on from the 33-year-old.
    Tuesday, 6:52 am
  • Pondexter posts nice line in blowout win
Quincy Pondexter scored 13 points on 5-of-14 shooting (including three treys) with three rebounds and four assists over 30 minutes in Monday's blowout win.

Advice: Pondexter has been in and out of the rotation and we need to see this many more times before we let him out of our doghouse. He and Kosta Koufos (three steals, three blocks, 10 points, six boards) obviously benefited from the garbage time tonight.
    Nov 17, 10:29 pm
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts questionable on Mon.
Chris Doulgas-Roberts (Achilles) is questionable for Monday against the Bulls.

Advice: His Achilles strain isn't minor and we're not expecting him to play tonight. Douglas-Roberts is out of the rotation and has no fantasy value.
    Nov 17, 12:53 pm
  • Gigi Datome available to play on Monday
Gigi Datome (hamstring) is available to play on Monday.

Advice: Datome is healthy, but he's got no role with the Pistons right now.
    Nov 17, 10:37 am
  • James Young gets recalled from D-League
Celtics recall F James Young from the D-League.

Advice: The first-round pick has done absolutely nothing so far and has a long road ahead to crack on any kind of fantasy radar.
    Nov 17, 8:28 am
  • Vitor Faverani showing no signs of progress
Brad Stevens said he has "zero idea" when Vitor Faverani (knee) might return.

Advice: We're marking him out indefinitely at this point until there is a positive update. "No increased activity," Stevens said. "I don't know. They have not given him any specific timeline." Now rehabbing from a second knee surgery after the firs caused lingering pain and swelling, Faverani is looking at a lost season.

  • Nick Calathes eligible to play Sunday, Nov 23
Grizzlies guard Nick Calathes is scheduled to return from his season-opening suspension on Sunday, Nov. 23.

Advice: Calathes was suspended for 20 games after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, causing him to miss the Grizzlies' final seven games of last year's playoffs. Memphis has been relying on Beno Udrih to support Mike Conley at PG, and it's unlikely Calathes will earn enough minutes to be worth plucking off the waiver wire in any format.
    Nov 16, 9:28 pm
  • Andrie Kirilenko picks up another DNP-CD
Andrei Kirilenko picked up yet another DNP-CD on Saturday, and has only managed to play 27 minutes this season.

Advice: It keeps getting worse for him, and he has simply fallen completely out of the rotation. The fact that Bojan Bogdanovic is getting minutes, let alone starting, speaks volumes about Kirilenko this season. Owners can ignore AK-47 in almost all leagues until further notice.
    Nov 16, 7:57 am
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts (Achilles) out Saturday
Chris Douglas-Roberts (Achilles) won't play in Saturday's game, and doesn't have a timetable to return.

Advice: Coach Doc Rivers hinted that it would probably be one to two weeks, and that it is just a minor strain. CDR didn't have fantasy value even before this news, so owners should look elsewhere. Matt Barnes and Jamal Crawford will pick up a couple extra minutes in CDR's absence.
    Nov 15, 6:00 pm
  • James Young headed to the D-League
James Young and Dwight Powell will head to the D-League.

Advice: Young played four minutes on Wednesday in garbage time, but he's not in the rotation. He'll look to get his offensive game together in Maine with the Red Claws.
    Nov 15, 12:59 pm
  • Luigi Datome (hamstring) will be active Fri.
Luigi Datome (hamstring) will be available to play Friday vs. the Thunder.

Advice: Datome is going to struggle to find minutes playing behind Josh Smith, Kyle Singler, and Caron Butler, so he's not a viable option in most leagues.
    Nov 14, 3:55 pm
  • CDR has a sore right Achilles
Chris Douglas-Roberts is dealing with a sore right Achilles and is questionable to play on Saturday against the Suns.

Advice: He hasn't played in the last two games because he's not in the rotation. The move of Jamal Crawford in the starting lineup hurts Douglas-Roberts' chance to play.
    Nov 14, 1:41 pm
  • Luigi Datome (hamstring) returns to practice
Luigi Datome (hamstring) returned to practice on Thursday.

Advice: Datome hasn't yet suited up for a single game this season, but his return to practice means that he's taking a positive step in that direction. Still, he's currently behind Josh Smith, Kyle Singler, and Caron Butler on the depth chart, so he's not likely to hold any fantasy value upon his return. Leave him on the wire.
    Nov 13, 1:50 pm
  • Quincy Pondexter, Dave Joerger have meeting
Quincy Pondexter and Grizzlies head coach Dave Joerger had a closed-door meeting before Wednesday's practice.

Advice: The backup swingman played just two minutes during Tuesday's win over the Lakers and Joerger took some time to clear the air with Pondexter. "The message is, this is what I was thinking and this is what I’m thinking going forward," Joerger said. "It’s always about not letting little things become big things. When you don’t talk to guys, that’s the worst." Pondexter is stuck behind Courtney Lee on the Grizzlies' depth chart and shouldn't be on any fantasy rosters at this point.
