  • JaKarr Sampson signs with Memphis
    Grizzlies sign F JaKarr Sampson.

Advice: The Nuggets have too much depth right now for Sampson to make the roster, but that's not the case in Memphis. Sampson saw 18.0 minutes per game for the depleted Nuggets after the break last year and was coming around as a scorer. He's still only emergency depth on Memphis. 36 minutes ago

  • Sixers expecting Simmons back in January?
Coach Brett Brown said the team expects Ben Simmons (foot) to return in January.

Advice: "It’s not doom and gloom," Brown said. It's a very unclear picture on Simmons right now. There was some talk of his agent wanting to keep him out all year, which isn't too far-fetched because there is about a seven percent re-fracture rate on Jones fractures. Unless you have an IR spot, it's going to be tough to stash Simmons. 56 minutes ago
  • C.J. Miles up in the air for opener
C.J. Miles (knee) did not practice on Friday.

Advice: With Miles down, the Pacers have seen Glenn Robinson III have a wonderful preseason. Miles is expected to play more stretch four in the second unit, but his minutes could be in jeopardy if GR3 keeps playing well. Today, 1:44 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) expected to play
Meyers Leonard (back) is expected to play on Friday night.

Advice: He went through a full practice on Thursday and it would appear he didn't have a setback. Leonard played 23 minutes back on Oct. 13 and hasn't played since. He was in a very favorable spot last year and couldn't get it going, but now it's going to be a lot tougher on a deep Portland squad. Today, 1:38 pm
  • Boris Diaw (leg) on the injury report
Boris Diaw (left leg contusion) did not practice on Friday.

Advice: This is a new injury for Diaw. There was no indication of an injury before this, so it's likely just a light bruise. For now, expect Diaw to be available for the opener. Today, 12:16 pm
  • Spurs pick up options on Slo-Mo
The Spurs exercised their fourth-year option on Kyle Anderson.

Advice: This was a no-brainer for the Spurs. Anderson has been a letdown this month after coach Gregg Popovich said he has to find playing time for him. If Kawhi Leonard misses time, Anderson will be a hot fantasy add. Today, 11:45 am
  • Knicks waive Cleanthony Early
    Knicks waive F Cleanthony Early.

Advice: He's most likely going to wind up with the Westchester Knicks in the D-League. Early was the very first draft pick of the Phil Jackson era. Today, 11:28 am
  • Lou Amundon gets waived
    Knicks waive F/C Lou Amundson.

Advice: He had a guaranteed portion to his contract, so the Knicks let talent trump money on this one. Amundson will likely get picked back up at some point after he gets healthy. Today, 11:25 am
  • Knicks waive Damien Inglis
    Knicks waive F Damien Inglis.

Advice: He had some buzz when the Bucks took him at 31 in the 2014 draft, but injuries and a lack of an offensive game hurt his chances for playing time. Inglis might be heading overseas. Today, 11:22 am
  • Knicks waive Tokoto
    Knicks waive F J.P. Tokoto.

Advice: He's certainly athletic enough to play in the NBA, but Tokoto just needs to really work on his jumper. Today, 11:20 am
  • Luc Mbah a Moute limited in practice
Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) was limited in practice on Friday.

Advice: He has a right knee contusion, but he's fully expected to be ready to start the season. Mbah a Mouse could start for the Clippers, but he's coming off a tiny 9.3 usage rate last year. There is not enough upside to draft him almost anywhere. Today, 11:18 am
  • Darrell Arthur (knee) ruled out Friday
Darrell Arthur (knee surgery) will not play on Friday vs. Dallas.

Advice: There was some hope that Arthur could go after he took some contact in Thursday's practice, but the Nuggets aren't going to take any chances. The Nuggets going with a big lineup of Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic hurts Arthur's outlook, especially since he's behind Kenneth Faried on the depth chart. Arthur can be considered questionable for the opener. Today, 10:06 am
  • Terrence Ross will play, Cory Joseph will not
Terrence Ross (knee) will play on Friday vs. the Wizards, while Cory Joseph (illness) has been ruled out.

Advice: Ross was able to get up some shots on Wednesday and this confirms that he will be ready for opening night, barring a setback. The Raptors have been talking him up a ton, but he's not a lock to be the first wing off the bench with Norman Powell around. Ross is only on the radar in deeper formats. Today, 8:24 am
  • ESPN: Wolves interested in Iman Shumpert
According to Zach Lowe of ESPN, the Wolves are among "several teams" who are interested in acquiring Iman Shumpert from the Cavaliers.

Advice: Shumpert hasn't lived up to expectations after signing a four-year, $40 million deal prior to last season, as he shot just 37.4 percent from the field and 29.5 percent from deep in 2015-16. The report adds that the Cavs won't salary-dump Shumpert for nothing, though they could significantly improve their tax situation if they find a suitor for the SG. His upside isn't great, so there's no need to stash him. On a side note, Zach LaVine's owners have nothing to worry about. Today, 7:17 am
  • Wizards pick up Kelly Oubre's option
The Wizards have picked up their team option on Kelly Oubre.

Advice: He's improved a ton since last season and is averaging 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.8 3-pointers through six preseason games. Otto Porter is still expected to start, but Oubre can play multiple positions and should be a significant part of the rotation. He's worth keeping an eye on in deeper formats. Today, 6:49 am
  • Darrell Arthur (knee) questionable for Friday
Darrell Arthur (knee surgery) took some contact during Thursday's practice, and there's a chance he can suit up for Friday's preseason finale against the Mavericks.

Advice: Friday will mark Day-10 of Arthur's initial 10-14 day timetable, so if he wakes up feeling fine after going through Thursday's practice, he could certainly be on the floor Friday night. That being said, he's not going to have any value in fantasy hoops this season while the team is healthy. Yesterday, 4:09 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) practices in full Thurs
Meyers Leonard (back) practiced in full with the Blazers on Thursday and is questionable to play on Friday.

Advice: Leonard spent the past two preseason games on the sidelines with the back issue, but he's on track to be good to go for opening night. In terms of fantasy hoops, Leonard really isn't an attractive target in most settings after last year's disastrous season. Yesterday, 3:52 pm
  • Mbah a Moute (knee) doesn't practice Thursday
Luc Mbah a Moute (right knee contusion) sat out Thursday's practice.

Advice: Mbah a Moute is simply dealing with a bruised knee, and head coach Doc Rivers expects him to be fully recovered in the next day or so. Mbah a Moute will likely shuffle in and out of the starting five this season based on matchups, but his fantasy value will remain non-existent regardless of how he enters the game. Yesterday, 11:45 am
  • Meyers Leonard (back) out again Wednesday
Meyers Leonard (lower back) sat out again on Wednesday.

Advice: Leonard is dealing with soreness, which is understandable after a very long layoff following shoulder surgery. The Blazers haven't suggested that there's a structural issue here, so we're considering him questionable to rejoin the rotation on opening night. Wednesday, 8:34 pm
  • Meyers Leonard out again Wednesday
Meyers Leonard (back) will not play on Wednesday against the Jazz.

Advice: It'll be his second game out due to his troublesome back injury. Leonard will likely be limited in the regular season and his minutes are going to drop regardless. While he has upside, fantasy owners can take a wait-and-see approach. Wednesday, 4:39 pm
  • C.J. Miles (sore knee) held out of contact
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) did spot-up shooting on Wednesday but he didn't participate in contact drills.

Advice: Miles won't play on Wednesday, obviously, and it's unclear when he'll be cleared to return -- the injury doesn't sound too serious but Indiana might play it safe with the veteran marksman. If he does miss time, expect Glenn Robinson III to pick up most of his minutes. Wednesday, 3:58 pm
  • Miles (knee), Brooks (knee) out Wednesday
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) and Aaron Brooks (sore right knee) have been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Bucks.

Advice: Neither player is dealing with a significant injury, but it always seems to be something with Miles. Neither Miles nor Brooks will be worth drafting in most leagues this season. Wednesday, 10:29 am
  • Terrence Ross (knee) out Wednesday vs. DET
Terrence Ross (knee) will not suit up for Wednesday's preseason game against the Pistons.

Advice: Ross was able to get on the court for some light shooting during Wednesday morning's shootaround, so he is making progress, although it seems unlikely that he'll be able to suit up for Toronto's final two preseason games. He should be good to go by opening night, but Ross won't be a fantasy hoops factor this season stuck in a reserve role fighting for minutes with Norman Powell. Wednesday, 9:39 am
  • Wall, Beal, Oubre, Morris, Gortat starting
John Wall, Bradley Beal, Kelly Oubre, Markieff Morris and Marcin Gortat will start Tuesday vs. the Cavs.

Advice: Otto Porter is dealing with some sore ribs, so Oubre will earn the start tonight, and there could be some extra minutes available for Tomas Satoransky. Tuesday, 3:59 pm
  • Knicks officially re-sign Cleanthony Early
The Knicks have officially re-signed Cleanthony Early.

Advice: Early is expected to begin the year rehabbing his hamstring injury in the D-League, and that's more than likely where he'll be spending a majority of the 2016-17 season. Tuesday, 12:48 pm
  • C.J. Miles takes some practice shots on Tues
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) didn't practice, but was able to take some shots on Tuesday.

Advice: Miles will travel with the team to Milwaukee and is expected to participate in shootaround on Wednesday. While Miles looks to be on track for the regular season opener, he doesn't have much fantasy value outside of deeper leagues. Tuesday, 10:31 am
  • Hill, Exum, Johnson, Diaw and Gobert starting
George Hill, Dante Exum, Joe Johnson, Boris Diaw and Rudy Gobert will start vs. the Clippers on Monday.

Advice: Derrick Favors (knee) and Rodney Hood (hand) have both been ruled out in addition to Alec Burks (knee, ankle) and Gordon Hayward (finger). We should see plenty of late-round sleeper Trey Lyles on Monday as well. Monday, 5:15 pm
  • Terrence Ross (knee) targeting opening night
Terrence Ross (knee) did not practice on Monday but the Raptors are expecting him back next week.

Advice: Additionally, the Raptors believe he will be ready for opening night. Ross has been hyped quite a bit by the Raptors this summer, but his fantasy outlook is still pretty bleak -- he's going to be fighting for minutes off the bench with impressive second-year player Norman Powell. Ross is only on the radar in deeper leagues. Monday, 10:59 am
  • C.J. Miles (sore left knee) misses practice
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) missed practice again on Monday.

Advice: Coach Nate McMilan said that Miles is day-to-day, but he's not a lock to be ready for opening night either. If he can't go, Glenn Robinson III could be in the rotation behind Paul George after a solid preseason. Miles isn't worth monitoring outside of deeper leagues. Monday, 10:41 am
  • Meyers Leonard (back) ruled out vs. Nuggets
Meyers Leonard (lower back) won't play vs. the Nuggets on Sunday.

Advice: Leonard said the injury bothered him during Tuesday's game vs. the Lakers, and he "felt it was best to rest" in a meaningless preseason game. We're considering him day-to-day until further notice, but this does nothing to help his shaky fantasy appeal in a crowded Blazers' frontcourt. Sunday, 5:16 pm
  • Kelly Oubre scores 15 in a spot start
Kelly Oubre started for Otto Porter (ribs) on Saturday, finishing with 15 points, three rebounds, one assist, two steals and one 3-pointer.

Advice: Porter's injury is not considered serious and he did travel. Additionally, the Wizards are now a little thin up front, so Porter will be important for minutes at the four. That should help Oubre get a few extra minutes in the second unit as a player to throw on your watch list in standard leagues. Saturday, 7:26 pm
  • C.J. Miles (left knee) not a lock for opener
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) is not a lock to be ready by opening night.

Advice: Although he's labeled as day-to-day, nobody seems to really know when Miles will be able to get back onto the court. "He's being reevaluated as far as where he's at and being able to get on the floor," said head coach Nate McMillan. As a result, Glen Robinson III has been given a new opportunity and could be in line to begin the year in the rotation. When discussing Miles, McMillan confirmed that "Glenn has taken that spot." Saturday, 2:10 pm
  • Kelly Oubre expected to start for Otto Porter
Kelly Oubre is expected to draw the start in place of Otto Porter (ribs) on Saturday vs. Sacramento.

Advice: The starting small forward spot has been an open competition in the Scott Brooks era, and Oubre has looked like a completely different player in his sophomore season than what we saw during his rookie campaign. He'll have another opportunity to strut his stuff on Saturday, so make sure to continue to monitor his progress accordingly. Saturday, 2:05 pm
  • Nuggets waive Sampson and Toupane
The Nuggets have waived JaKarr Sampson, Axel Toupane and D.J. Kennedy.

Advice: Their roster is now down to 17, meaning they still need to waive two more guys. Sampson has improved a ton since his Philly days and should draw some interest around the league. Saturday, 9:30 am
    Not Active
  • Iman Shumpert will move back to bench
Iman Shumpert is now expected to come off the bench this season.

Advice: J.R. Smith agreed to a four-year deal with the Cavs on Friday and should be back in the starting lineup. The Cavaliers don't have a lot of depth in their backcourt, so maybe Shumpert can see more than the 24.4 minutes per game he saw last season. With that said, he doesn't have much upside and is only worth a look in very deep leagues. Saturday, 7:02 am
  • Kyle Anderson scores six points in start
Kyle Anderson scored six points with seven rebounds, one assist, two steals and one turnover in 18 minutes.

Advice: He might have a statue for Summer League play, but Anderson just hasn't done anything this month. Coach Gregg Popovich said he's going to have to find a way to get get Anderson minutes, but this sub-par month is taking the luster off him as a late-round pick. Friday, 8:16 pm
  • T-Ross out again on Friday
Terrence Ross (knee) will not play on Friday.

Advice: He tweaked his knee on a 360-degree jam in practice earlier this week. The good news is that the MRI came back clean, so he should be ready for the regular season. Friday, 2:56 pm
  • C.J. Miles, Aaron Brooks ruled out Friday
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) and Aaron Brooks (sore right knee) will not play vs. the Magic on Friday.

Advice: Miles was listed as doubtful, so the Pacers will hold him out as expected. It doesn't sound serious, so he should be ready for the opener in a couple weeks. Miles averaged 11.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.5 blocks and 2.2 3-pointers on 41 percent shooting last season, but he will have a tough time matching those numbers on a revamped Pacers roster. Friday, 8:25 am
  • Terrence Ross out for Thursday
Terrence Ross (knee) will not play against the Cavs on Thursday.

Advice: He tweaked his knee on a 360 jam, but the MRI came back clean. Chances are he will be missing time with this, but there is no timetable just yet. Ross is having himself a nice preseason, averaging 13.0 points per game. He's still going to be behind DeMarre Carroll during the season, though. With him out, there should be more minutes for Norman Powell. Thursday, 4:07 pm
  • Report: NYK set to re-sign Cleanthony Early
The Knicks are reportedly re-signing Cleanthony Early.

Advice: Early is currently dealing with a hamstring injury, so he's expected to begin the year rehabbing in the D-League. There's no fantasy value here. Thursday, 2:42 pm
  • C.J. Miles (knee) doubtful Friday vs. Orlando
C.J. Miles (left knee) sat out Thursday's practice and is doubtful to suit up for Friday's preseason game against the Magic.

Advice: Miles isn't dealing with anything more than a sore knee, so he should be good to go when the regular season tips. However, his fantasy value is going to be nearly non-existent this season. Thursday, 11:23 am
  • Slo-Mo, Mills & Jean-Charles listed starters
Patty Mills, Danny Green, Kyle Anderson, Livio Jean-Charles and LaMarcus Aldridge are listed as the starters on Wednesday.

Advice: That means Pau Gasol could be out, but obviously it's hard to trust the "listed as starters" when it comes to the Spurs. Regardless, this definitely feels like a Kyle Anderson kind of night. Wednesday, 3:14 pm
  • C.J. Miles out, Glenn Robinson likely starts
C.J. Miles (left knee) will not play on Wednesday against the Bucks.

Advice: He was questionable to play after shootaround and the Pacers will just keep him out. Miles should see his role change a little this year with the Pacers wanting to go smaller and faster. He's still not worth drafting. Glenn Robinson should get extended run tonight. Wednesday, 3:07 pm
  • C.J. Miles (knee) questionable for Wednesday
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) is questionable to play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Bucks.

Advice: Indiana is hopeful that Miles can get on the court for "some minutes" during Wednesday's game, but if there's any question that his knee is at less than 100 percent, you can bet he'll be taking the night off. Miles won't have much fantasy value at all this year operating as Paul George's backup. Wednesday, 9:11 am
  • Meyers Leonard (shoulder) scores 11 in return
Meyers Leonard (shoulder) returned to action on Tuesday vs. the Lakers, scoring 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting with six boards, one assist, one block and one trey in 20 minutes.

Advice: He had shoulder surgery back in March and was just cleared for 5-on-5 work last week, so it appears that he's ahead of schedule. Leonard was a bust last season, and while the upside is still there, the path to minutes isn't -- the Blazers have three capable centers in Mason Plumlee, Ed Davis and Festus Ezeli (knee), so Leonard will have to fight for scraps behind Al-Farouq Aminu and Moe Harkless at the four. Tuesday, 10:01 pm
  • Darrell Arthur hopes to return in two weeks
Darrell Arthur (knee surgery) said that he's hopeful he can get back on the court in 10-14 days.

Advice: Arthur is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, but he's hopeful that he can get a few practices in before the regular season begins. He's not worth drafting anywhere. Tuesday, 1:09 pm
  • Knicks sign F Damien Inglis
The Knicks have signed F Damien Inglis.

Advice: Inglis will be suiting up for the Knicks' D-League affiliate, so there's no fantasy value here. Tuesday, 11:26 am
