    • Strikes deal with San Antonio
Paul agreed Sunday with the Spurs on a one-year deal worth at least $11 million, Chris Haynes of Turner Sports reports.

Advice: After being waived by Golden State shortly before the start of the free-agent moratorium period that began Sunday at 6 p.m. ET, Paul quickly found a new home with the rebuilding Spurs. In San Antonio, the 39-year-old may not see a major increase in the 26.4 minutes per contest he averaged with the Warriors in 2023-24, though he should benefit from a spike in the career-low 15.4 percent usage rate he handled now that he's part of a far more green Spurs backcourt rather than one that includes established All-Star talents in Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The Spurs could elect to deploy a rough platoon of Paul and Tre Jones at point guard, which would enable rookie first-round Stephon Castle pick to begin his career in the more familiar off-ball role that he filled at UConn. • Haynes: Chris Paul expected to sign with Spurs
According to TNT’s Chris Haynes, Chris Paul is expected to sign with the Spurs.

Advice: Waived by the Warriors on Sunday afternoon due to the team’s desire to avoid guaranteeing his $30 million salary for next season, Paul has been perceived as a player the Spurs wanted to add in free agency. San Antonio struggled mightily last season despite having rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama, and there was a dire need to improve the options at point guard. Paul certainly accomplishes that, and it’s fair to question the future of Tre Jones, as San Antonio selected Stephon Castle with the No. 4 pick in the NBA Draft. Paul’s presence will benefit Wembanyama and Devin Vassell, and it should boost his value after an underwhelming 2023-24 with the Warriors. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Paul’s deal is worth $11 million for one season. Rotoworld Today, 5:36 pm
    • Cade Cunningham to ink 5-year, $226M extension
Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that Cade Cunningham will sign a five-year, $226 million rookie extension with the Pistons.

Advice: Cunningham appeared in only 12 games in his second season due to a heel injury, but he bounced back and appeared in 62 games in 2023-24. Cunningham averaged 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.9 three-pointers, shooting 44.9% from the floor, 86.9% from the charity stripe and 35.5% from beyond the arc. Aside from the rebounds, the other numbers and the percentages were career highs for the Oklahoma State product. Availability will be a concern for Cunningham, but when healthy, he’s a stat-stuffer with early-round upside in fantasy hoops. Rotoworld Today, 5:29 pm
    • Set to sign five-year extension
Cunningham (knee) agreed Sunday with the Pistons on a five-year, $226 million max extension, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Cunningham has been a bright spot for the Pistons since being selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He missed most of the 2022-23 campaign due to a left shin injury, but he bounced back in 2023-24, averaging 22.7 points, 7.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 33.5 minutes per game over 62 appearances. He missed the end of the season due to left knee tendinopathy but should be back to full health for the start of training camp. Rotowire.com Today, 5:25 pm
    • Shams: LAC signs Kevin Porter Jr. to two-year deal
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Clippers have signed Kevin Porter Jr. to a two-year deal that includes a player option.

Advice: Due to alleged domestic violence charges in September 2023, Porter did not play at all in the NBA last season. Houston traded him to Oklahoma City, who waived the 2019 first-round pick just before the start of the season. He reached a plea agreement in January, with the charges being pleaded down to a third-degree misdemeanor for reckless assault. KPJ played in Greece for six weeks in April and May. By joining the Clippers, Porter can show he can be productive on a team with playoff ambitions. How valuable he can be with the Clippers depends on what happens with Paul George and Russell Westbrook. The former is an unrestricted free agent, while the latter could be on the move despite opting into the final season of his contract. If George and Westbrook move on, Porter is one of the players who could benefit from the available playing time. Rotoworld Today, 4:22 pm
    • Returning to NBA with Clippers
Porter and the Clippers agreed to terms Sunday on a two-year deal, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Advice: According to Kelly Iko of The Athletic, the second year of the deal is a player option, and both years are for the veteran's minimum and are fully guaranteed. Porter didn't play in the NBA this past season after being arrested on an assault charge on a domestic incident that occurred in September, with the Rockets trading him a month later to the Thunder, who immediately waived him. In January, Porter accepted a plea deal in relation to the arrest, then played overseas in Greece in the spring. Though Porter's legal situation looks to be resolved, it's unclear whether he'll face discipline from the NBA during the 2024-25 season now that he's resurfaced in the league with the Clippers. Over 59 regular-season appearances with the Rockets during the 2022-23 campaign, Porter averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 34.3 minutes per game. Even if Porter isn't subject to any sort of suspension, he won't be in store for nearly as large of a role with LA as he had previously handled in Houston. Rotowire.com Today, 4:19 pm
    • Commits to Clips for two years
Harden agreed Sunday with the Clippers on a two-year, $70 million contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Harden and the Clippers came to agreement on a new deal just minutes before NBA free agency officially began, though the contract won't become official until at least Saturday. In any case, the 34-year-old point guard is locked in for two more seasons with LA, coming off an inaugural season with the Clippers in which he averaged his fewest points per game (16.6) since 2010-11, but still posted strong marks in just about every other category (8.5 assists, 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 three-pointers, 1.1 steals and 0.8 blocks). With Paul George hitting the open market and not expected to return to the Clippers, Harden will likely shoulder more of the offensive load in 2024-25 alongside Kawhi Leonard (knee). • James Harden to return to LAC on two-year deal
Shams Charania of The Athletic reports that James Harden will sign a two-year, $70 million deal to return to the Clippers.

Advice: Harden enjoyed a productive first season with the Clippers, finishing with averages of 16.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 8.5 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.8 blocks and 2.6 triples. Most of those numbers were declines in last season’s production, particularly his points, but Harden still finished as an early third-rounder in fantasy hoops. His ability to stuff the stat sheet should keep him in the third-round range for 2024-25, and he could see a bump in production if Paul George leaves in free agency. Rotoworld Today, 2:56 pm
    • Cut loose by Golden State
The Warriors waived Paul on Sunday, Chris Haynes of Turner Sports reports.

Advice: Paul's $30 million salary for 2024-25 would have been fully guaranteed had the Warriors opted to keep him on the roster until free agency officially began at 6 p.m. ET Sunday, and after no trade partner emerged for the 39-year-old point guard, Golden State opted to cut him loose. Though he career-low 9.2 points on 44.1 percent shooting from the field in 26.4 minutes per contest over his 58 appearances in 2023-24, Paul still demonstrated aptitude as a playmaker (6.8:1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio). Paul could still have plenty of appeal around the league as a stopgap solution at point guard, though at this stage of his career, he's more ideally suited for a sub-30-minute starting role or as a lead guard off the bench.
