  • Jared Sullinger (foot) still being evaluated
Raptors coach Dwane Casey said Jared Sullinger (foot) is still being evaluated.

Advice: Casey added that Sullinger's foot just isn't progressing and he's looking increasingly doubtful for the season opener. The Raptors could go with Paskal Siakam in the starting unit, but Patrick Patterson would get a bump in minutes as well. This sounds very concerning for Sullinger and he's not a must-own player while we wait for the official word. 32 minutes ago
  • Robert Covington expected to play Wednesday
Robert Covington (ankle) is expected to play on Wednesday according to coach Brett Brown even though he sat out of Sunday's practice.

Advice: RoCo tweaked his right ankle during Friday's preseason game and didn't return, but the 76ers were just being cautious. He had a really rough preseason, but he's looking at heavy minutes on a banged up 76ers' roster. He will be a nice source of 3-pointers and steals and is worth targeting towards the end of the middle rounds. Today, 10:01 am
  • Andrew Nicholson could play some center
Wizards coach Scott Brooks said that Andrew Nicholson could play some center with Ian Mahinmi (knee) on the shelf.

Advice: "He can score down low at the block. He’s done a pretty good job of picking up how to guard the perimeter players that can shoot 3s," Brooks said. "He’s played multiple positions at those two big spots. You need versatility. He’s picked things up pretty good." He had two straight 19-point performances in the preseason and it sounds like he could be the first big off the bench ahead of Jason Smith. If you need a big in a deep league, Nicholson is worth putting on your watch list. Today, 9:14 am
  • Ben Bentil drawing interest from Pacers
Ben Bentil is drawing interest from the Pacers.

Advice: The Celtics didn't have room for Bentil on their 15-man roster, but he does have some talent. The Pacers likely just want his D-League rights, so there are no fantasy implications here. Today, 8:24 am

  • 76ers waive Elton Brand
The 76ers have waived Elton Brand.

Advice: He announced his retirement earlier this week, but this makes it official. Brand was just a locker room presence for the young 76ers last season and his absence won't have any fantasy implications. He's expected to take on a front office role. Today, 8:13 am

  • Spo: Winslow will get more responsibility
Coach Erik Spoelstra said Justise Winslow is expected to get more responsibility on offense.

Advice: It didn't really show in the preseason with just 8.2 points and 2.2 assists per game. He leaned on his jumper quite a bit in the preseason with that type of shot accounting for 73.3 percent of his total. The bad news is he only made 30.3 percent of those, which is a shade down from his 30.8 percent from last year. Winslow is going to have to count on some other stats outside of scoring to have a breakthrough season. He's more of a late-round pick. Yesterday, 4:13 pm
  • Cuban: Harrison Barnes isn't our No. 1 option
Mark Cuban said that he does not expect Harrison Barnes to be the top option in Dallas.

Advice: Considering the Mavs just gave Barnes nearly $100M, we're not sure this is exactly what fans wanted to hear. "Now are we asking him to come in and be our leading scorer day one? No," Cuban said. "I think we'll have a great balance of scoring attack. There are going to be days he scores four points and games when he scores 25 points. As long as we're getting the defensive effort." Given how horrific Barnes looked during the preseason, we're not sure Cuban is going to get what he's asking for. And that usually doesn't end up well. Yesterday, 3:23 pm
  • Report: Greg Monroe could opt-in next year
The Bucks are "preparing for the possibility" that Greg Monroe opts into his deal for the 2017-18 season, sources told ESPN's Zach Lowe.

Advice: You could literally "prepare for the possibility" of anything, so we're not reading too far into this one. Besides, Monroe could be traded before we even reach that juncture. Yesterday, 3:08 pm
  • Pelicans 'thrilled' with Terrence Jones
The Pelicans have been "thrilled" with Terrence Jones in the preseason.

Advice: In particular, New Orleans has been impressed by his ability to facilitate. After a slowish start, Jones really came on toward the end of the preseason and has firmly reestablished himself as a huge fantasy sleeper just ahead of the season. So long as he can stay healthy—and that's not a given whatsoever with this particular player—Jones should provide a very nice return on investment for owners willing to take the gamble. Yesterday, 2:44 pm
  • Jared Sullinger (foot) doubtful for opener
Jared Sullinger (left foot soreness) is doubtful to play in Toronto's season opener.

Advice: Sully went from questionable to doubtful quicker than Drake went from 0 to 100. With Sullinger more than likely out for the inaugural game of the season, Patrick Patterson should see more minutes. Yesterday, 2:33 pm
  • Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) practices Saturday
Luc Mbah a Moute (right knee contusion) returned to practice on Saturday.

Advice: The veteran expects to be available for the season opener. Even though he's likely to start at small forward, there is absolutely no fantasy value in any format to be seen here. Yesterday, 1:52 pm
  • Hornacek disappointed to lose Lou Amundson
Jeff Hornacek was disappointed that the Knicks had to waive Lou Amundson.

Advice: "With Lou, it came down to a matter of how many bigs we have. We have a lot of bigs on the team," Hornacek said. "So that was a tough one." Amundson is nearing the end of the road in his NBA career. Yesterday, 1:42 pm

  • Celtics waive Ryan Kelly on Saturday
    Celtics waive F Ryan Kelly.

Advice: Kelly was just signed on Friday, but this was done so the Celtics could have his D-League rights. The expectation is for the stretch forward to head to Maine and play for the Red Claws. Yesterday, 1:18 pm
  • Spurs decide to waive Livio Jean-Charles
    Spurs waive F Livio Jean-Charles.

Advice: It might be surprising for some, but he just hasn't been the same since he started to have knee issues. Despite being owed $2.4M over the course of the next two seasons, Jean-Charles—a former first-round pick—will not be a part of San Antonio's immediate plans. Yesterday, 12:58 pm
  • Arinze Onuaku makes Magic's final roster
Arinze Onuaku has made the Magic's final roster.

Advice: After spending last season in Israel and the Philippines, Onuaku has found his way back into the NBA. However, he's not going to be in the rotation unless there are injuries ahead of him. There is no fantasy value here. Yesterday, 12:45 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) practices on Saturday
Nikola Mirotic (back) returned to a full practice on Saturday.

Advice: Although Fred Hoiberg has not yet decided on Chicago's opening night power forward, the expectation is for Mirotic to be available. Mirotic has the potential to be an intriguing fantasy commodity, but he's more of a flier right now given his competition for minutes as well as his uncertain role. Yesterday, 12:21 pm
  • Derrick Favors (L knee) still not practicing
Derrick Favors (left knee, IT band syndrome) did not practice again on Saturday.

Advice: The Jazz and fantasy owners can continue to hold out hope that he'll be ready for the regular season opener, but the reality is as follows: Favors hasn't been on the floor in nearly three weeks, we've gotten very little real information when it comes to his progression and nobody seems to know exactly what the problem is. At this point, we have no choice but to bump him down our draft boards while moving up Trey Lyles a few ticks in the process. Favors should be considered questionable at best for opening night and the potential exists for him to miss multiple regular season contests. Yesterday, 11:44 am
  • Wizards waive Johnny O'Bryant
The Wizards have waived Johnny O'Byrant.

Advice: He was on a non-guaranteed deal and was outplayed by Daniel Ochefu during the preseason. Yesterday, 7:51 am
  • Hawks GM: Re-signing Millsap a priority
Hawks GM Wes Wilcox hinted that the team will make it a priority to re-sign Paul Millsap.

Advice: "Paul is a great professional, and it’s absolutely our goal for Paul to be a Hawk long-term," Wilcox said. "It’s as simple as that." Millsap has a player option for the 2017-18 season and has been the subject of trade rumors for a couple seasons now, but we'd expect him to opt out and take advantage of the rising salary cap. With that said, the Hawks are committed to him and his status as a top-15 pick in standard leagues is safe. Yesterday, 7:20 am
  • Unfair Advantage: Durant drops 28-7-6 line
Kevin Durant was unfair against the Blazers on Friday, scoring 28 points with seven rebounds, six assists, one block and five 3-pointers in 30 minutes.

Advice: So that's a wrap for his preseason. Durant finished with a 70.0 true shooting percentage to go with his 28.3 usage rate. What's more, KD's per-36-minute scoring in the preseason was 29.8, which is actually a better rate than last season. The former MVP was playing more like his teammate Stephen Curry with numerous highlight reel treys. He could still wind up being fantasy's top player. Friday, 10:49 pm
  • Meyers Leonard returns on Friday
Meyers Leonard scored 12 points in 16 minutes on Friday, adding one rebound and two 3-pointers.

Advice: He played most of his minutes at center and came off the bench behind Noah Vonleh. Leonard's fantasy outlook doesn't bring much excitement right now. Friday, 10:32 pm
  • Nikola Jokic will be the starting PF
Nikola Jokic be the starting power forward for the regular season.

Advice: His minutes were safe regardless. Jokic still struggles on closing out on pick-and-pop plays, but he has shown some improvement. Coach Mike Malone must also feel confident in Jokic's perimeter D or else he wouldn't make this move. He's a per-minute monster and deserves a selection in the early rounds of fantasy drafts. Friday, 10:00 pm
  • Kenneth Faried to come off the bench
Kenneth Faried will come off the bench this regular season.

Advice: He had a good game on Friday, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in 21 minutes. With Nikola Jokic set to play minutes at both big spots and coach Mike Malone loving to go small, Faried's playing time may only be hanging in the low 20s. He's also a trade candidate given Denver's depth -- that might be a good thing. If you draft Faried late, make sure your expectations are somewhat low. Friday, 9:56 pm
  • Harrison Barnes' bad preseason finally ends
Harrison Barnes did not do much on Friday, scoring eight points with three rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes.

Advice: It was a preseason to forget for Harry B. The Mavs are obviously committed to him with his $94 million deal, so he has a leash as long as Texas as the starting small forward. Barnes is being put into a new role and it's really tough to invest anything more than a late-round pick on him based on how awful he looked this month. Friday, 9:48 pm
  • Robbie Hummel, Wolters waived
Nuggets waive F Robbie Hummel and G Nate Wolters.

Advice: Hummel had some talent earlier in his career, but the ACL surgeries hurt his chances to get going again. Friday, 9:36 pm
  • Jerami Grant scores 17 points
Jerami Grant scored 17 points with four rebounds, one assist, two steals and no turnovers in 24 minutes on Friday.

Advice: Robert Covington (ankle) couldn't return, so Grant saw some added run. Grant's offensive arsenal has grown this preseason and he'll be asked to play both forward spots. He's still likely to be a major problem in the percentage categories, so it's tough to target him in standard leagues. Friday, 9:03 pm
  • Dario Saric scores 19 with seven boards
Dario Saric scored 19 points with seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes on Friday.

Advice: Former GM Sam Hinkie must feel like a proud papa here with his stashed guy playing his best game. Saric was playing through an abdominal injury in this game, but coach Brett Brown really wanted to have his starting power forward get a feel for a full complement of minutes. The rookie will have some ups and downs, but his diversity on the stat sheet makes him a prime pick late in drafts. Friday, 9:00 pm
  • Robert Covington suffers ankle sprain
Robert Covington suffered a right ankle sprain and did not return on Friday.

Advice: He was originally getting re-taped to come back in the game, but the team wisely changed its mind. There's been no word on RoCo missing time going forward and we would consider him probable for the opener right now. With Ben Simmons (foot) out, expect Covington to be a stud for steals and treys. He's a solid pick in the late middle rounds. Friday, 8:56 pm
  • Justise Winslow back in action
Justise Winslow scored five points in 16 minutes on Friday, adding four rebounds, one assist and one steal.

Advice: The expected added offensive responsibility for Winslow didn't exactly translate to the stat sheet this preseason, averaging 8.2 points, 3.7 boards, 2.2 assists, 0.3 steals, 0.3 blocks and 0.8 turnovers. He looks like he's only going to be the fourth starting option on offense, so he'll have to thrive in other categories. Winslow is just a late-round flier. Friday, 8:17 pm
  • D-Will, Wes, Harry B, Dirk & Bogut to start
Deron Williams, Wesley Matthews, Harrison Barnes, Dirk Nowitzki and Andrew Bogut will start on Friday.

Advice: Let's all hope Harry B can get it going. He's had a really rough time this month. Friday, 5:57 pm
  • Celtics sign Ryan Kelly
    Celtics sign F Ryan Kelly.

Advice: He won't be making the big club. Friday, 5:33 pm
  • Justise Winslow back in action
Justise Winslow (back) will play on Friday night.

Advice: He missed two games due to his back tweak. Winslow was expected to take on a bigger offensive role and he is up to a 20.4 usage rate in his 105 preseason minutes. The upside isn't too high on him, so he's more of a late-round pick. Friday, 3:25 pm
  • Andrew Nicholson impressing Brooks
Coach Scott Brooks said he's been impressed with Andrew Nicholson.

Advice: He's had two really big games with back-to-back 19-point efforts coming into Friday. The Wizards are already dealing with some depth issues now that Ian Mahinmi (knee) is out. Nicholson has really struggled on defense at times, but he might make the rotation. Friday, 2:37 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) expected to play
Meyers Leonard (back) is expected to play on Friday night.

Advice: He went through a full practice on Thursday and it would appear he didn't have a setback. Leonard played 23 minutes back on Oct. 13 and hasn't played since. He was in a very favorable spot last year and couldn't get it going, but now it's going to be a lot tougher on a deep Portland squad. Friday, 1:38 pm
  • Derrick Favors (knee) still not practicing
Derrick Favors (left knee) did not practice on Friday.

Advice: Since his preseason debut back on Oct. 4, Favors has been on the injury report due to knee soreness. He had right knee soreness back in April and also missed one game due to left knee soreness in 2012. In other words, Favors' 25-year-old knees aren't in terrible shape. That said, he should be bumped down a round or two with this concern. Trey Lyles has added value. Friday, 12:14 pm
  • Lou Amundon gets waived
    Knicks waive F/C Lou Amundson.

Advice: He had a guaranteed portion to his contract, so the Knicks let talent trump money on this one. Amundson will likely get picked back up at some point after he gets healthy. Friday, 11:25 am
    Not Active
  • Luc Mbah a Moute limited in practice
Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) was limited in practice on Friday.

Advice: He has a right knee contusion, but he's fully expected to be ready to start the season. Mbah a Mouse could start for the Clippers, but he's coming off a tiny 9.3 usage rate last year. There is not enough upside to draft him almost anywhere. Friday, 11:18 am
  • Celtics release Ben Bentil
The Celtics have waived Ben Bentil.

Advice: The Celtics roster is now down to 16, so the decisions will only get tougher. Bentil is a nice prospect and should draw some interest around the league. Friday, 10:10 am
    Not Active
  • Sullinger out Friday, questionable for opener
Jared Sullinger (foot) will not play on Friday vs. the Wizards and coach Dwane Casey said he could miss the season opener.

Advice: Not good. Sullinger is still experiencing pain in his foot, so the Raptors are going to take another "look" at it. It sounds like they might run some tests, so we could have another update soon. With Sullinger iffy for the start of the season, Pascal Siakam could be in the rotation and Patrick Patterson will see a bump in minutes. Friday, 8:23 am
  • Paul Millsap gets 28 minutes vs. Bulls
Paul Millsap scored nine points with eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and four turnovers in 28 minutes against the Bulls on Thursday.

Advice: The minutes increase is the big takeaway here. Millsap only played 19 minutes in his preseason debut due to his minor knee procedure last month and he even had a minor car crash earlier this week. Millsap can do it all and hasn't dealt with knee issues for the past few years up until this recent hiccup, so fire him up as a late-first pick. Thursday, 8:50 pm
  • Terrence Jones goes off again with 24 points
Terrence Jones was phenomenal on Thursday, scoring 24 points with four rebounds, three assists, two steals, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 29 minutes.

Advice: Hey now. This comes on the heels of a 18-point game on Tuesday and he averaged 15.0 points per game in the preseason even before this beauty. Jones essentially took a pay cut to put himself in the best spot, and he appears to have made the right choice. Coach Alvin Gentry can use him next to Anthony Davis and both can guard fives depending on the matchup. He's solidified himself as a very nice late-round pick in almost all leagues. Thursday, 7:18 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) practices in full Thurs
Meyers Leonard (back) practiced in full with the Blazers on Thursday and is questionable to play on Friday.

Advice: Leonard spent the past two preseason games on the sidelines with the back issue, but he's on track to be good to go for opening night. In terms of fantasy hoops, Leonard really isn't an attractive target in most settings after last year's disastrous season. Thursday, 3:52 pm
  • Mbah a Moute (knee) doesn't practice Thursday
Luc Mbah a Moute (right knee contusion) sat out Thursday's practice.

Advice: Mbah a Moute is simply dealing with a bruised knee, and head coach Doc Rivers expects him to be fully recovered in the next day or so. Mbah a Moute will likely shuffle in and out of the starting five this season based on matchups, but his fantasy value will remain non-existent regardless of how he enters the game. Thursday, 11:45 am
  • Elton Brand officially retires
    Elton Brand has officially retired.

Advice: Brand only played 17 games last season, so this move doesn't come as much of a surprise from the 37-year-old. Brand retires after 17 impressive NBA seasons and will likely now move to a front office role, according to reports. Thursday, 10:16 am
    Not Active
  • Justise Winslow won't play vs Hornets Thurs
Justise Winslow (back) won't play against the Hornets on Thursday.

Advice: Winslow's back injury isn't thought to be anything serious, so there's nothing to worry about in terms of his availability for the start of the regular season. Winslow will be stepping into an expanded role this season and is worth a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues. Thursday, 9:10 am
  • Kevin Durant racks up 27/6/4 in 31 minutes
Kevin Durant finished Wednesday's victory with 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting, six boards, four assists, two steals and one block in 31 minutes of action.

Advice: This marks a preseason high for Durant in scoring and free throws made (7-of-7), but it's also the first time that he's logged more than 26 minutes. He's yet to miss from the line in 26 attempts and he's a combined 14-of-26 from downtown this preseason, the type of efficiency you'd expect from a former MVP. A dip in usage and shot attempts is probable, but concerns about his ability to share the court with the Warriors' incumbent scorers are overblown. Wednesday, 10:11 pm
  • Derrick Favors (knee) questionable for opener
Derrick Favors (left knee) is questionable for Utah's season opener on Oct. 25, according to Jazz beat writer Tony Jones.

Advice: Jones wrote that he's "hearing [Favors] will be back for opener," but he also warned, "won't know his status until close to Tuesday ... he needs to practice first." There are obviously no guarantees that Favors won't begin the season with a DNP, but this is at least an optimistic tidbit for worried fantasy owners. Wednesday, 9:22 pm
  • Harry Bad: Barnes now at just 35.3 TS% as Mav
Harrison Barnes' disastrous preseason continued on Wednesday, making 1-of-9 from the field for eight points with three rebounds and two turnovers.

Advice: So it turns out Kevin Durant is an upgrade over Harry B. In the preseason, Barnes has a woeful 35.2 true shooting percentage, including just 17.1 percent on his jumpers. We've seen Barnes have rough stretches for months at a time, but needless to say the Mavs aren't feeling great about paying him. If he falls to the last few rounds, he still might be worth a late pick. Wednesday, 8:45 pm
  • Derrick Favors (left knee) sits out yet again
Derrick Favors (left knee) didn't play in Wednesday's preseason finale, as expected.

Advice: Favors hasn't practiced since Utah's preseason opener, which doesn't bode well for his opening-night status. He's dealing with IT band syndrome, which is related to overuse and causes pain during lateral movement, and rest is the primary prescription. There's enough risk here to bump him down a round or two on draft day. Wednesday, 8:37 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) out again Wednesday
Meyers Leonard (lower back) sat out again on Wednesday.

Advice: Leonard is dealing with soreness, which is understandable after a very long layoff following shoulder surgery. The Blazers haven't suggested that there's a structural issue here, so we're considering him questionable to rejoin the rotation on opening night. Wednesday, 8:34 pm
  • Meyers Leonard out again Wednesday
Meyers Leonard (back) will not play on Wednesday against the Jazz.

Advice: It'll be his second game out due to his troublesome back injury. Leonard will likely be limited in the regular season and his minutes are going to drop regardless. While he has upside, fantasy owners can take a wait-and-see approach. Wednesday, 4:39 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) out for Thursday
Nikola Mirotic (back) will not travel for Thursday's game.

Advice: He was in some pain from his back injury on Monday. Mirotic has likely lost his chance to start on opening night with Taj Gibson leapfrogging him. With Mirotic out, Bobby Portis should have a bigger role off the bench. While Mirotic has lost some value, he's still a decent flier at the end of drafts. Wednesday, 11:09 am
  • Derrick Favors (knee) doubtful for Wednesday
Derrick Favors (left knee) did not go through shootaround and is not expected to play in Wednesday's exhibition game against the Trail Blazers.

Advice: Favors hasn't taken the court since October 3, and while IT band syndrome isn't typically a serious issue, the extended absence is concerning. Until we get some new info, we're going to consider him questionable for opening night, and with each day spent on the sidelines it's getting increasingly difficult to justify spending an early mid-round selection on Favors. If you do take the plunge on draft day, it would be wise to also invest a late-round selection in Trey Lyles as a handcuff pick. Wednesday, 10:19 am
  • Sullinger (ankle), Ross (knee) out Wednesday
Jared Sullinger (ankle) and Terrence Ross (knee) have been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Pistons.

Advice: Dwane Casey said that he's hopeful that Sullinger will be able to get on the floor for Friday's preseason finale against the Wizards, but he won't push him if he's not ready. As for Ross, Casey doesn't expect him to be available for Toronto's two remaining preseason games. Pattrick Patterson, Pascal Siakam and Bruno Caboclo will continue to pick up some extended minutes with both Sullinger and Ross on the sidelines. Wednesday, 9:30 am
  • Brown unconcerned with Saric's shooting woes
Brett Brown was not at all concerned when discussing Dario Saric's recent shooting struggles.

Advice: "[It's no surprise] at all," Brown said of Saric's recent shooting struggles. "It's going to happen throughout the year. It's just a long year and it's a new year and it's an unfamiliar year with teammates and coaches and everything." Over the past three preseason games, Saric has shot just 5-of-22 from the field, but he believes once he stops rushing things his shot will come back to him. Like most rookies, turnovers and shooting percentages will likely be an issue for Saric, but he has the ability to bring a little bit of everything to the stat sheet making him an alluring late-round target. Wednesday, 6:57 am
  • Kenneth Faried appears headed for bench
Kenneth Faried came off the bench again on Tuesday and hit 4-of-7 shots for nine points, two rebounds and a block in 16 minutes.

Advice: It looks like Jusuf Nurkic will start at center and Nikola Jokic will get the nod at power forward, pushing Faried to the bench. He's been disappointing nearly every season he's been in the league and having to battle with Jokic for minutes and production could be a rough road for the Manimal. He's nothing more than a late-round fantasy flier right now. Tuesday, 8:07 pm
  • Nikola Jokic scores 11 Tuesday
Nikola Jokic hit 5-of-9 shots for 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and zero blocks in 26 minutes on Tuesday.

Advice: He's going to start at power forward, with Jusuf Nurkic at center, assuming nothing changes between now and the start of the season. Jokic's preseason has been a bit disappointing, but the talent is there and we're still expecting a pretty big year from him. However, the sudden rise of Nurkic hasn't done him any favors thus far, and may negatively impact him for the foreseeable future. Tuesday, 8:04 pm
  • Hawks waive Ryan Kelly
The Hawks have waived Ryan Kelly.

Advice: The Hawks' roster is down to 18 after they let go of Matt Costello earlier in the week. Kelly will likely end up in the D-League or head overseas. Tuesday, 7:39 pm
  • Terrence Jones scores 18 w/ two treys
Terrence Jones (knee contusion) returned to action in style on Tuesday vs. the Hawks, scoring 18 points with four rebounds, two 3-pointers and one block in just 20 minutes.

Advice: The Pelicans were running their offense through him and he showed no signs of any injury after he missed the previous two games. He finished 6-of-15 from the field and it's great to see him attempt five 3-pointers on the night. He's loaded with upside and may have to step up early on with Anthony Davis bothered by an ankle issue. He should see minutes at the four and five and is a nice sleeper late in drafts, but just keep his injury history in mind. Tuesday, 7:00 pm
  • Andrew Nicholson looks great, scores 19
Andrew Nicholson was impressive vs. the Cavaliers on Tuesday, scoring 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting with eight rebounds, one assist, two steals and one trey in 26 minutes.

Advice: He's hot right now and is coming off a double-double on Thursday and a 19-point effort on Saturday. Meanwhile, Markieff Morris posted another dud with just six points on 3-of-11 shooting. Morris is still the starter, but Nicholson could chip away at his workload if he can keep this momentum going. He signed a four-year, $26 million deal over the summer, so he's going to be in the rotation. Just keep an eye on him. Tuesday, 6:30 pm
  • Terrence Jones (knee) available to play Tues
Terrence Jones (knee) will be available to play Tuesday vs. the Hawks.

Advice: Jones has missed the past two games with a bruised knee, which is pretty typical for the oft-injured forward, but it sounds like he could be back on the court for limited action Tuesday night. Jones does offer a good amount of upside with his ability to swat shots and hit triples, but staying healthy has been a major issue for him through his four years in the league. Still, he's on the radar as a potential late-round target in standard settings. Tuesday, 3:28 pm
  • Justise Winslow (back) out Tuesday vs. ORL
Justise Winslow (back) will not suit up for Tuesday's preseason game against the Magic.

Advice: The newly signed Luis Montero will likely be earning some extended minutes tonight sans Winslow, with Derrick Williams and James Johnson picking up the scraps. Winslow should be stepping into an expanded role this year with the departure of Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh (blood clots), so he's someone to consider swooping up with a late-round selection on draft day. As for his back, Winslow said he just slept on it wrong, but believes he'll be fine by the end of the week. Tuesday, 2:56 pm
  • Paul Millsap expected to play Tuesday vs. NO
Paul Millsap was involved in a car accident late Monday evening, but he came away uninjured and is expected to play in Tuesday's preseason game against the Pelicans.

Advice: Millsap was a full participant during Tuesday morning's shootaround, so he should be just fine for tonight's meaningless matchup with the Pelicans. He's a safe first-round target in any setting. Tuesday, 12:34 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) doesn't practice Tues
Nikola Mirotic (strained back) was unable to practice on Tuesday, and his status for Thursday's preseason game against the Hawks remains uncertain.

Advice: Mirotic sustained the injury during Monday's preseason loss to the Hornets, and it wouldn't be surprising at all to see him sit out Thursday's meaningless game if there's any question at all that he's not completely recovered. Consistency has been a major issue for Mirotic through his first two years in the league, but when he's on, he's capable of producing at a top-60 level. Tuesday, 11:43 am
  • Justise Winslow a game-time decision Tuesday
Justise Winslow will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's exhibition game against the Magic.

Advice: Winslow isn't dealing with an injury, but head coach Erik Spoelstra might want to get an extended look at some of the new guys. If Winslow sits out Tuesday's game, look for James Johnson and Wayne Ellington to split his minutes. Tuesday, 11:31 am
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) says he's day-to-day
Nikola Mirotic (strained back) said he is "day to day" after being injured during Monday's preseason game.

Advice: Mirotic didn't return after feeling a "sharp pain," and the Bulls will assuredly play it safe with him over the next week. Fantasy owners should keep a very close watch for updates, but for now this doesn't sound serious enough to bump him down draft boards. Monday, 8:12 pm
  • Greg Monroe scores 12 off the bench
Greg Monroe scored 12 points off the bench with eight rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 23 minutes vs. the Pistons on Monday.

Advice: The biggest takeaway from tonight is that Monroe's usage rate could actually be a lot higher off the bench, as he attempted 19 shots from the field, connecting on six of them. Miles Plumlee is the favorite to start, but Monroe should soak up the majority of the center minutes, assuming the Bucks give up on trying to trade him. Monday, 7:19 pm
  • Mirotic (lower back strain) will not return
Nikola Mirotic (lower back strain) will not return to Monday's game vs. the Hornets.

Advice: He took a hard fall and the Bulls aren't going to take any chances here. He played 10 minutes, but missed all four of his shots from the field (all 3-pointers) with two rebounds and one steal. If he's forced to miss time, Taj Gibson will be looking at heavy minutes and Bobby Portis will take over the backup role. It's been a miserable preseason for Mirotic. Monday, 7:03 pm
  • Terrence Jones (knee) questionable Tuesday
Terrence Jones (knee) has been upgraded to questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Hawks.

Advice: Jones has missed two games in a row and was listed as doubtful in the previous outing, so this can be viewed as a step in the right direction. The Pelicans are banged up right now and don't want to take any chances, so we'd still be surprised to see Jones out there. The Pelicans signed Quincy Ford to a training camp deal to provide some additional depth for Tuesday. For now, Jones is still considered a sleeper in the later rounds. Monday, 2:46 pm
  • Sullinger says his ankle issue isn't serious
Jared Sullinger isn't sure of his status for the Raptors' final two preseason games, but hinted that the injury isn't serious.

Advice: Sullinger said that his foot was stepped on during the game against the Warriors and added that he tried to play through it, but the soreness persisted. Since then, the Raptors have been cautious and want to make sure he's 100 percent for the opener. As the starting PF in Toronto, Sully has some late-round appeal in standard leagues. Oct 17, 10:15 am
  • Derrick Favors (left knee) out Monday
Derrick Favors (left knee) did not go through the morning shootaround and will not play on Monday vs. the Clippers.

Advice: This isn't a surprise considering he was listed as doubtful. The Jazz haven't provided a timetable and he's been out for nearly two weeks, so this is a little concerning. It should be the Trey Lyles show tonight with a sprinkle of Boris Diaw. Oct 17, 10:09 am
  • Robert Covington (migraine) misses practice
Robert Covington missed practice on Monday due to a migraine.

Advice: The 76ers have one more preseason game on Friday vs. the Heat, so Covington should be considered questionable. Hollis Thompson missed practice with an illness, so Jerami Grant could be looking at a heavy workload Friday. Oct 17, 9:49 am
  • Paul Millsap returns with 19/9/7 in 19 mins
Paul Millsap (knee, illness) looked great in 19 minutes on Sunday, scoring 19 points with nine rebounds, seven assists, two 3-pointers and one turnover.

Advice: It was Millsap's first preseason action due to knee soreness, but he directed the offense and showed no signs of rust at either end of the court. The veteran should be even busier than usual offensively with Al Horford out of town -- Millsap's true shooting percentage and point per possession were almost identical without Horford on the court last year, but his usage rate jumped from 22.9 percent to 26.7 percent. He's a strong early-round target in almost any format. Oct 16, 5:47 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) ruled out vs. Nuggets
Meyers Leonard (lower back) won't play vs. the Nuggets on Sunday.

Advice: Leonard said the injury bothered him during Tuesday's game vs. the Lakers, and he "felt it was best to rest" in a meaningless preseason game. We're considering him day-to-day until further notice, but this does nothing to help his shaky fantasy appeal in a crowded Blazers' frontcourt. Oct 16, 5:16 pm
  • Paul Millsap (knee, illness) starting Sunday
Paul Millsap (knee, illness) will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's preseason game against the Magic.

Advice: Will Bynum, DeAndre Bembry, Thabo Sefolosha and Mike Muscala will be joining Millsap in the starting five for Sunday's meaningless game with Dennis Schroder, Kyle Korver, Kent Bazemore and Dwight Howard all sitting this one out for rest purposes. Millsap will be making his preseason debut after undergoing a knee procedure over the offseason, but his minutes will more than likely be limited. He's obviously going to be fine for opening night, and is a safe first-round target. Oct 16, 2:08 pm
  • Derrick Favors (knee) doubtful Monday vs. LAC
Derrick Favors (left knee) is doubtful to suit up for Monday's preseason game against the Clippers.

Advice: Favors still hasn't practiced or played since the preseason opener, and with the regular season just a little over a week away, he's now in jeopardy of not being ready for opening night. The Jazz maintain that Favors' injury is not to be considered a long-term issue, but knee injuries for big men are nothing to shrug at. He's still too talented to let him fall out of the middle rounds on draft day, but there will now be some added risk in selecting a guy that only made it through 62 games last year. Trey Lyles will be the primary beneficiary if Favors is forced to miss any regular season action. Oct 16, 11:56 am
  • Heat will pick up Justise Winslow's option
The Heat will pick up Justise Winslow's option for the 2017-18 season.

Advice: It's just a formality for one of the most promising two-way wings in the East. Winslow has been a little underwhelming in the preseason so far with just one steal in five games, but the good news is that he's hit five 3-pointers in that span. His game doesn't translate to standard-league value real well, but he could force his way onto fantasy rosters just by playing a ton of minutes at several different positions. Oct 16, 7:43 am
  • KD, Klay & Curry combined for 55 on 78.1 TS%
Kevin Durant made 7-of-11 from the field for 17 points against the Lakers on Saturday, adding five rebounds, two assists, one steal, two blocks, no turnovers and three 3-pointers.

Advice: That's quite a stat line and drives home the point of how Durant is not just a scorer. Speaking of scoring, Stephen Curry scored 14 points on 5-of-9 from the field and Klay Thompson scored 24 points on 9-of-13 from the field. The three of them combined for 55 points on a pristine 78.1 true shooting percentage and were wide open all night. When they're on, this team will be impossible to defend and there will be plenty of nights they're scoring over 130. KD is still a top-four pick in standard leagues. Oct 15, 9:50 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic scores 14 points vs. Bucks
Nikola Mirotic scored 14 points with five rebounds, one assist, one block and two 3-pointers in 26 minutes on Saturday.

Advice: With Taj Gibson resting, the pressure was on Mirotic to have a good game. He's had terrible games more often than not and he's losing his grasp on the starting spot. If Mirotic can't hold the starting job, his ability to score won't be as important due to how the second unit has some shooters. Obviously depending on who else is out there, pouncing on Mirotic just after 100 seems like a sound investment. Oct 15, 8:27 pm
  • Andrew Nicholson scores 19 points
Andrew Nicholson scored 19 points in 32 minutes against the Kings on Saturday, adding five rebounds and two 3-pointers.

Advice: There are going to be some minutes up for grab at the five with Ian Mahinmi (knee) expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Nicholson has been more of a power forward, but he's seen some minutes at the five in the past. Johnny O'Bryant also picked up some playing time with 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals in 19 minutes. Both of these guys will be behind Marcin Gortat, of course. Oct 15, 7:21 pm
  • Dario Saric has another sub-par showing
Dario Saric scored eight points with five rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes against the Pistons on Saturday.

Advice: The 76ers as a whole had a rough time on offense tonight, making just 36.8 percent from the field. Saric has gone cold over his last three games at just 22.7 percent from the field in that span with no treys or defensive stats. The 76ers do seem committed to him and Ben Simmons (foot) could miss the entire season, so Saric makes sense in the later rounds to see what he can do in the starting lineup. Oct 15, 6:40 pm
  • Greg Monroe and MCW getting the night off
Greg Monroe and Michael Carter-Williams will rest on Saturday.

Advice: We'll get to see more John Henson and Miles Plumlee tonight. Henson has played better than Plumlee, so that is something to watch. Both could wind up starting with Monroe in the second unit. Oct 15, 4:34 pm
  • Derrick Favors (L knee) still not practicing
Derrick Favors (left knee, IT band syndrome) is still not practicing on Saturday.

Advice: It's been nearly two weeks since Favors hit the sidelines with this injury, and there is really no current indication of when he could be back on the floor. Although Quin Snyder does not believe the injury is a long-term concern, the updates have been few and far between and mostly speculative in nature. We're not knocking Favors down our draft boards considerably, but if you're trying to decide between the big man and another target in your draft, you'll want to consider this information closely and carefully before making your choice. Any length of absence for Favors in the regular season would mean more playing time for Trey Lyles as well as Boris Diaw. Oct 15, 11:19 am
  • Paul Millsap (knee) to make debut on Sunday
Paul Millsap (knee, illness) will play on Sunday vs. the Magic.

Advice: Officially, he's listed as probable. Millsap has been recovering from a minor procedure on his right knee back on September 22, but he has been practicing for a few days now and appears prepared to make his preseason debut. Additionally, he said that he has "no restrictions" and that he's "full go." Despite the quote, Millsap's workload will be limited to about 18 minutes on Sunday. He's a top-10 stud that is usually available in the second round of fantasy drafts. Oct 15, 10:49 am
  • Nikola Jokic posts double-double vs. GSW
Nikola Jokic was effective against the Warriors on Friday, scoring 14 points with 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes.

Advice: There he is. Before this game, Jokic's usage rate and rebound rate are both less than half than Jusuf Nurkic's in their playing time together this preseason. Disappointing preseason aside, Jokic is still set up for a big year with minutes at two positions. He's a high-ceiling pick in the early rounds. Oct 14, 9:24 pm
  • Jared Sullinger out again on Friday
Jared Sullinger (ankle) will not play on Friday.

Advice: He's been out for most of this month and has been limited in practice. Sullinger is expected to play minutes at both the four and the five, and he is going to have a green light from three. There should still be better options in 12-team leagues. Oct 14, 2:55 pm
  • The Homie struggles on the road
Dario Saric struggled against the Wizards on Thursday, making 1-of-8 from the field for six points with two rebounds and three turnovers in 23 minutes.

Advice: He's mentioned his legs weren't there earlier this week and maybe he's still getting into an NBA routine. Coach Brett Brown is already a big fan of Saric, saying he's very comfortable on long twos, is an intellectual, and capable of establishing a strong rapport with all of the Philly centers. He's going to be inconsistent, but fantasy owners can pounce on The Homie after the high-upside sleepers come off the board. Oct 13, 6:52 pm
  • Jared Sullinger out for Thursday
Jared Sullinger (ankle) will not play against the Cavs on Thursday.

Advice: He's still sidelined by his ankle injury from back on Oct. 1. With Sullinger out, we'll get a longer look at Patrick Patterson and Pascal Siakam. Sullinger is only a last-round flier in deeper leagues. Oct 13, 4:09 pm
  • Andrew Nicholson starting for Markieff
Andrew Nicholson is starting for Markieff Morris (foot) on Thursday.

Advice: He hasn't played too much in the preseason and scored a combined 15 points this month. Nicholson is fighting for playing time with Jason Smith and isn't a lock to be in the rotation. Oct 13, 4:04 pm
  • McConnell, Hendo, RoCo, Saric, Embiid start
T.J. McConnell, Gerald Henderson, Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid will start Thursday vs. the Wizards.

Advice: Saric was handed a rest day during Philly's last exhibition game, but he'll be back on the court tonight. With Ben Simmons (foot) out indefinitely, Saric should see an increased role and a healthy amount of minutes for the 76ers this season, making him an alluring late-round target. Oct 13, 2:47 pm
  • Paul Millsap out against vs Detroit on Thurs
Paul Millsap (illness) will miss Thursday's game against Detroit.

Advice: Millsap has sat out two straight practices, but there's nothing long-term to worry about here. Millsap will be ready for the regular season and will be worth a pick at the end of the first-round of fantasy drafts. Oct 13, 9:10 am
  • Dario Saric expected to play vs Wizards Thurs
Dario Saric is expected to play against the Wizards on Thursday.

Advice: Saric sat out Tuesday's game against the Grizzlies for rest purposes, so there aren't any injury concerns to worry about here. Saric will see an uptick in minutes while Ben Simmons (foot) is out, and he's worth a look in the second half of fantasy drafts. Oct 13, 8:16 am
  • Derrick Favors' left knee still inflamed
Jazz coach Quin Snyder said about Derrick Favors' left knee injury, "It’s got to get less inflamed ... presumably, he’ll be back sooner than later."

Advice: Favors is dealing with IT band syndrome, which causes pain when the knee moves laterally and is typically associated with overuse among runners. "I don't think it's anything we're putting a long timetable on," Snyder said. Favors missed 20 games last year, due largely to a nagging back injury, but in his first five seasons he averaged just 5.4 DNPs. We're considering him questionable for opening night. Oct 12, 10:35 pm
