  • The Cavs have waived F Dahntay Jones.
The Cavs have waived G/F Dahntay Jones.

Advice: Jones appeared in two preseason games for the Cavs, averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 20.4 minutes. Jones also appeared in 15 postseason games for the Cavs last season. Yesterday, 2:58 pm
  • Thomas Robinson makes Lakers 15-man roster.
Thomas Robinson has made the Lakers opening night roster.

Advice: Robinson hasn't lived up to the hype he generated coming into the league as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2012 draft. However, he did show flashes of promise last season with the Nets. And he impressed his new coach Luke Walton in training camp and the preseason. Walton said he is "shocked" that Robinson hasn't been able to stick on a roster for an extended period of time Yesterday, 2:15 pm
  • Tony Allen expected to play opener.
Tony Allen (knee) is expected to play against the Wolves on Wednesday.

Advice: Allen missed all six of the Grizzlies preseason games due to knee soreness, but it's is obviously an encouraging sign that he is ready to roll for the season opener on Wednesday night. Yesterday, 12:34 pm
  • Brandan Wright (ankle) won't play in opener.
Brandon Wright (ankle) will not play in the season opener against the Wolves on Wednesday.

Advice: Wright, who had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee last year, badly sprained his left ankle early in the preseason and is clearly still not yet 100 percent healed. With starting center Marc Gasol (foot, ankle) on a minutes restriction, there was an opportunity for Wright to see increased playing time, but Wright needs to first get himself healthy. Yesterday, 12:22 pm
  • Chandler Parsons (knee) won't play in opener.
Chandler Parsons (knee rehab) will not play in season opener.

Advice: Parsons is recovering from surgery to his right knee and had been making progress. There was some hope that he would be ready for the season's first game, but coach David Fizdale told reporters on Monday that Parsons would not be available. Afer signing Parsons to a max deal this summer, the Grizz are understandably taking a cautious approach with their $94.4 million investment. Yesterday, 12:15 pm
  • The Thunder have waived F Chris Wright
The Thunder have waived F Chris Wright.

Advice: It was a longshot for Wright to make the OKC roster this season. He will likely have to decide between playing the D-League or heading overseas. Yesterday, 12:01 pm

  • Lakers officially waive Yi Jianlian
The Lakers have officially waived Yi Jianlian.

Advice: "Yi was productive in practices and games with us, and was a consummate professional both on and off the court," said General Manager Mitch Kupchak. "However, he felt that the minutes and opportunities he'd be afforded here were not in line with his goals and ambitions, and that he'd be better off in a different situation." If Jianlian wants to play meaningful minutes, he probably needs to head back to the CBA. Yesterday, 11:05 am

  • C.J. Miles (knee) goes through full practice
C.J. Miles (knee) has been a full participant during Indiana's past two practices.

Advice: He scrimmaged with the team on Sunday, so there's a chance he's available for Indiana's regular-season opener on Wednesday vs. the Mavericks. However, as Paul George's backup, Miles offers very little fantasy value. Yesterday, 11:01 am
  • Casey considering starting Patrick Patterson
Dwane Casey said that he currently views Patrick Patterson as the "leading candidate" to start sans Jared Sullinger (foot surgery).

Advice: While Casey tabbed Patterson as the leading candidate, he also acknowledged that he goes back and forth between starting Patterson or rookie Pascal Siakam based on the matchup, but either way Patterson figures to earn the bulk of the power forward minutes in Sullinger's absence. That being said, aside from hitting a few triples, Patterson rarely brings much else to the box score, so he's more of a 3-point specialist in deep leagues. Yesterday, 10:51 am
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) cleared for contact
Josh McRoberts (left foot) has been cleared for contact, and hopes to make it back to the court "sooner rather than later."

Advice: Additionally, McRoberts said he's spent most his time at the five-spot during Heat practices, so it sounds like Erik Spoelstra envisions McBob operating as Hassan Whiteside's primary backup. It's unlikely that McRoberts will be able to see much more than 20 minutes a night in a reserve role, and he's still without an official timetable to return, so there's no reason to draft him anywhere. Yesterday, 10:11 am
  • Josh Richardson (knee) out for season opener
Josh Richardson (right knee) has been ruled out for Miami's regular-season opener against Orlando.

Advice: Richardson still hasn't been able to take contact, and never really had a chance of being ready for opening night, but his absence shouldn't extend too far into the regular-season. He said that he's no longer experiencing pain in his injured right now, although it does get a little sore after workouts. Richardson has a decent shot of starting at the two-spot for Miami once he's fully up to speed, so he's someone to consider swooping up with a late-round pick in leagues that offer an IR-spot. Yesterday, 9:53 am
  • Pacers sign F Ben Bentil
The Pacers have signed F Ben Bentil.

Advice: The Pacers already have 15 guaranteed contracts on the books for this upcoming season, so Bentil is likely headed to the Indiana's D-League affiliate. Yesterday, 8:31 am

  • Pascal Siakam could start sans Sullinger?
Pascal Siakam will have the opportunity to start for the Raptors with Jared Sullinger (foot surgery) out indefinitely.

Advice: Patrick Patterson will more than likely be getting the bulk of the power forward minutes, but Dwane Casey prefers to bring him off the bench, so there's a chance the rookie’s development is accelerated with the loss of Sullinger. Siakam did start in Toronto's final four preseason games, and Casey recently praised the rookie for his activity on both ends of the floor. That being said, even as a starter it'll be tough for Siakam to get enough minutes to matter in standard leagues. DeMarre Carroll and Patterson remain the primary beneficiaries sans Sullinger. Yesterday, 8:18 am
  • Pelicans waive Alonzo Gee
The Pelicans have waived Alonzo Gee.

Advice: The final decision came down to Gee vs. Lance Stephenson, but with Tyreke Evans (knee) and Jrue Holiday (personal) set to begin the year on the sidelines, Stephenson's playmaking ability became a need and likely put him over the top. Gee will be paid $1.2 million to not play for New Orleans this season, but he should be able to latch on with another team. He's not a fantasy option in any scenario, though. Yesterday, 7:47 am

  • HOU wanted Capela to play more mins last year
Houston management reportedly pushed for Clint Capela to get more minutes, at the expense of Dwight Howard last season.

Advice: Rockets' GM Daryl Morey and owner Leslie Alexander were the ones arguing to get more minutes to Capela, as they believed his development was crucial with Howard likely to leave via free agency, and that decision was reportedly "heavily influenced" by James Harden. The takeaway here is that Howard is now in Atlanta, so management (and Harden) should get their wish, with Capela potentially looking at a 30-plus-minute role this season. He's a decent late-round flier if you're punting free throws. Yesterday, 6:42 am
  • Yi Jianlian asks for release, will be waived
Yi Jianlian has asked to be released by the Lakers and will be formally waived Monday.

Advice: He was a superstar in China and it was a fairly big surprise he came over to the NBA this year. Jianlian was not a lock for the rotation and had struggles on both ends this month. With Jianlian off the books, that should allow the Lakers to keep Thomas Robinson. Sunday, 11:04 pm

  • C.J. Miles (knee) scrimmages on Sunday
C.J. Miles (left knee) scrimmaged on Sunday.

Advice: It looks like Miles will be good to go for the regular season opener against the Mavericks on Wednesday, but he won't have much value at all this year as Paul George's backup. Sunday, 12:40 pm
  • Cavaliers expected to waive Dahntay Jones
The Cavaliers are expected to waive Dahntay Jones.

Advice: This means that DeAndre Liggins will make the 15-man roster. Jones wouldn't have been in the rotation anyways, especially after J.R. Smith finally re-signed. Sunday, 8:28 am
  • Ben Bentil drawing interest from Pacers
Ben Bentil is drawing interest from the Pacers.

Advice: The Celtics didn't have room for Bentil on their 15-man roster, but he does have some talent. The Pacers likely just want his D-League rights, so there are no fantasy implications here. Sunday, 8:24 am

  • Fizdale says Allen has made progress
Memphis coach David Fizdale said that Tony Allen's knee has made progress.

Advice: "He looked good, and I think he’s getting close," Fizdale said. "I don’t want to say there’s guarantees, but he went through the whole practice today and all of yesterday. We don’t go for continuous long stretches of time, but he’s looking better, and I’m hoping we get him back soon." Allen returned to practice this week after missing all six preseason games due to knee soreness, but he's hopeful to play in the season opener. Fizdale confirmed that he will start at SG this season and the Grizzlies even let him run the point in training camp, so the minutes should be there. If you need steals, Allen's worth a look. Sunday, 7:41 am
  • C.J. Miles (left knee) will not need surgery
C.J. Miles (left knee) will not require surgery.

Advice: That's the good news. Here's the bad: Miles is dealing with swollen tissue just beneath his kneecap, and it's not clear when he might be able to return to the court. Although the veteran is optimistic he will be ready for the season opener, we're more pessimistic given it's a recurring issue coupled with the fact that there is no clear treatment plan in place. Miles is shooting jumpers and "occasionally" running on a treadmill, but you have to do a lot more than that to be an effective NBA player. Miles hopes the next step involves contact drills, but the Pacers will reevaluate him at every turn along the way. An MRI has ruled out any structural damage, but nobody seems to have a clear vision of what the timeline could be. "I'm definitely not going to get in a game without a chance to be in practice," Miles said. Glen Robinson III is the favorite to take Miles' minutes assuming he's out to begin the year. Saturday, 3:30 pm
  • Report: Gee vs. Stephenson for final spot
The Pelicans are expected to choose between Alonzo Gee and Lance Stephenson for the final roster spot.

Advice: Given the injuries that New Orleans has in its backcourt, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Pelicans opt for Born Ready's playmaking over keeping Gee. We'll have our answer one way or another no later than Monday afternoon. Saturday, 2:01 pm

  • Tony Allen (knee) hopeful for season opener
Tony Allen (knee) returned to a full practice on Saturday and is hopeful to play in the season opener.

Advice: Allen did admit that he does need to do a better job of listening to his body, but he's got a well-established reputation for playing through anything and everything he can. We don't expect that to change anytime soon, so if he can play on opening night, we expect him to be out there. The Grizzlies will determine his status based on the amount of residual swelling he has, so expect multiple updates prior to Wednesday. If he can't go, Memphis is going to have to get creative with its starting lineup given Chandler Parsons (knee surgery) remains a major question mark. Saturday, 1:47 pm
  • Josh Richardson (knee) unsure of return
Josh Richardson (knee) said he's not sure when he will be able to take contact in practice.

Advice: "They haven’t really told me," Richardson said. "They’re just trying to get me back on the court working a little bit." He's been on the shelf for seven weeks and was originally given a 6-8 week timetable, but his status for the season opener doesn't look good. Once healthy, Richardson should be able to win the starting SG role and is worth a stash if you have some dead weight on your roster. Saturday, 8:08 am
  • Parsons practicing, not cleared for games
Chandler Parsons (knee) has fully participated in the last two practices, but has yet to be cleared for game action.

Advice: "No problems at all with the knee," Parsons said to ESPN. There is still some hope Parsons can get out there for the opener, but the Grizzlies will take it easy on their max guy. He's going to slide in fantasy drafts big time, but he does have value after the middle rounds. Friday, 6:00 pm
  • Josh McRoberts out again on Friday
Josh McRoberts (foot) will not play on Friday.

Advice: The Heat are in no rush to bring him back. McRoberts has no timetable to return. Friday, 3:21 pm
  • Lowry, DeMar, DeMarre, Pascal & JV starting
Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, DeMarre Carroll, Pascal Siakam and Jonas Valanciunas will start on Friday against the Wizards.

Advice: The Raptors really like Patrick Patterson in the second unit, so Siakam starting again suggests he might be thrust into the first unit in the games Jared Sullinger (foot) misses. There should also be a good amount of Carroll at the four. Friday, 2:51 pm
  • C.J. Miles up in the air for opener
C.J. Miles (knee) did not practice on Friday.

Advice: With Miles down, the Pacers have seen Glenn Robinson III have a wonderful preseason. Miles is expected to play more stretch four in the second unit, but his minutes could be in jeopardy if GR3 keeps playing well. Friday, 1:44 pm
  • Celtics release Ben Bentil
The Celtics have waived Ben Bentil.

Advice: The Celtics roster is now down to 16, so the decisions will only get tougher. Bentil is a nice prospect and should draw some interest around the league. Friday, 10:10 am

  • Clint Capela resting on Friday
Clint Capela is resting on Friday vs. the Spurs.

Advice: After a sluggish start to the preseason, Capela had his best game on Wednesday with 12 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and two turnovers. He will be a nice source of rebounds and blocks late, but his brutal free throw shooting will keep his value in check. Nene and Chinanu Onuaku will fill the void Friday. Friday, 9:22 am
  • Josh Richardson out Thursday vs Hornets
Josh Richardson (knee) will miss Thursday's game against the Hornets.

Advice: This doesn't come as a huge surprise as Richardson isn't expected to be ready for opening night, but his absence isn't expected to extend too far into the regular season. He'll serve as Miami's starting shooting guard upon his return, so he's worth a late-round pick in standard league drafts. Thursday, 7:57 am
  • Josh McRoberts out Thursday vs Hornets
Josh McRoberts (left foot) will miss Thursday's game against the Hornets.

Advice: McRoberts has no set timetable for his return and has no fantasy value in standard fantasy leagues at the moment. Thursday, 7:42 am
  • Clint Capela bounces back on Wednesday
Clint Capela got the start on Wednesday against the Mavs, finishing with 12 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and two turnovers.

Advice: With Nene resting, Capela needed to impress coach Mike D'Antoni. Luckily, he arguably had his best game of the month and did a fine job on the defensive end. His starting job isn't 100 percent locked up, so his awful foul shooting makes it tough to draft him unless you're punting free throw percentage. Wednesday, 8:15 pm
  • Pascal Siakam scores seven points as starter
Pascal Siakam was a fill-in starter vs. the Pistons on Wednesday and had seven points (3-of-5 FGs, 1-of-3 FTs), four boards, one steal, one block and four turnovers in 25 minutes.

Advice: The Raptors have high hopes for the rookie forward's development, but his near-term fantasy prospects aren't great. He's likely to spend much of his time with the Raptors' D-League affiliate. Wednesday, 7:09 pm
  • Patrick Patterson quiet in 20 mins off bench
Patrick Patterson was quiet in 20 bench minutes on Wednesday, chipping in three points on 1-of-5 shooting with two assists and one rebound.

Advice: Jared Sullinger (foot) wasn't active tonight, but it was Pascal Siakam who took his spot in the starting lineup. This was likely just an attempt to evaluate the rookie, while keeping Patterson in his usual reserve role, but it's another reminder that his outlook is bleak with Sullinger in Toronto. Wednesday, 7:08 pm
  • C.J. Miles (sore knee) held out of contact
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) did spot-up shooting on Wednesday but he didn't participate in contact drills.

Advice: Miles won't play on Wednesday, obviously, and it's unclear when he'll be cleared to return -- the injury doesn't sound too serious but Indiana might play it safe with the veteran marksman. If he does miss time, expect Glenn Robinson III to pick up most of his minutes. Wednesday, 3:58 pm
  • Lowry, DeMar, Carroll, Siakam & JV starting
The Raptors will start Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, DeMarre Carroll, Pascal Siakam and Jonas Valanciunas on Wednesday.

Advice: Minus Terrence Ross (knee) and Jared Sullinger (foot), the Raptors should have a fairly regular rotation tonight. We'll get to see how Siakam runs with the first unit as he tries to lock up a rotation spot. Wednesday, 3:22 pm
  • Miles (knee), Brooks (knee) out Wednesday
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) and Aaron Brooks (sore right knee) have been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Bucks.

Advice: Neither player is dealing with a significant injury, but it always seems to be something with Miles. Neither Miles nor Brooks will be worth drafting in most leagues this season. Wednesday, 10:29 am
  • Brandan Wright (ankle) out Wednesday
Brandan Wright (ankle) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Wolves.

Advice: The guy just can't stay healthy. Wright is expected to be in the rotation this season, but he should be considered questionable for opening night. Zach Randolph will get the backup center minutes if Wright can't go. Tuesday, 4:15 pm
  • Chandler Parsons (knee surgery) out Wednesday
Chandler Parsons (right knee surgery) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Wolves.

Advice: This was his final chance to play in the preseason, so this is disappointing. The Grizzlies won't provide a timetable, but Parsons has been spotted running and getting some shots up. For now, we'll consider him closer to doubtful for the season opener. Tuesday, 4:13 pm
  • Tony Allen (knee) ruled out Wednesday
Tony Allen (knee) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Wolves.

Advice: It's the preseason finale, so the Grizzlies will continue resting him with the regular season just a week away. He's expected to start at SG, but he should be considered questionable for the season opener. Tuesday, 4:10 pm
  • Josh Richardson (knee) out Tuesday vs. ORL
Josh Richardson (knee) will not play in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Magic.

Advice: Richardson has been slowly ramping up his activities, but he still hasn't been cleared for contact, so it's looking like he might not be ready for opening night. Still, his absence shouldn't extend too far into the regular season, and he does present enough upside to warrant a stash in standard leagues as he'll likely be Miami's starting two-guard once he's fully up to speed. Tuesday, 3:07 pm
  • C.J. Miles takes some practice shots on Tues
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) didn't practice, but was able to take some shots on Tuesday.

Advice: Miles will travel with the team to Milwaukee and is expected to participate in shootaround on Wednesday. While Miles looks to be on track for the regular season opener, he doesn't have much fantasy value outside of deeper leagues. Tuesday, 10:31 am
  • Josh Richardson able to do non-contact work
Josh Richardson (knee) was able to go through non-contact portions of practice on Monday.

Advice: Head coach Erik Spoelstra said RIcharson was "able to get out there and do a decent portion of the non-contact work," but Miami isn't looking to rush Richardson back. While it looks like Richardson isn't going to be ready for the start of the regular season, he's worth a stash in standard leagues as the favorite to start at SG. Tuesday, 7:00 am
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) out Tuesday
Josh McRoberts (stress reaction in left foot) will not play vs. the Magic on Tuesday.

Advice: The oft-injured forward has no set timetable for a return and has no fantasy value. Monday, 3:14 pm
  • Josh Richardson unlikely for season opener
Josh Richardson (knee) is not expected to be ready in time for the season opener.

Advice: He went through most of the non-contact work in Monday's practice, but the Heat probably don't want to rush him back. Richardson is the favorite to start at SG once he's fully healthy and he has plenty of upside, but he's just a stash in standard leagues until we hear a concrete timetable. Monday, 11:02 am
  • C.J. Miles (sore left knee) misses practice
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) missed practice again on Monday.

Advice: Coach Nate McMilan said that Miles is day-to-day, but he's not a lock to be ready for opening night either. If he can't go, Glenn Robinson III could be in the rotation behind Paul George after a solid preseason. Miles isn't worth monitoring outside of deeper leagues. Monday, 10:41 am
  • Clint Capela could lose burn?
Clint Capela scored nine points with nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and three turnovers in just 12 minutes on Saturday.

Advice: His minutes are no longer safe with coach Mike D'Antoni liking Nene and Montrezl Harrell. Capela is a solid guy to have around the rim, but his offensive deficiencies have been well documented. He's only a last-round flier until he can show he's capable of locking down minutes in the 20s. Oct 15, 8:57 pm
  • Josh Richardson (knee surgery) out Saturday
Josh Richardson (right knee surgery) will not play on Saturday vs. Minnesota.

Advice: It's just a reminder here. Richardson is targeting the season opener, but we should have a better idea if that's realistic next week when the Heat begin their final stretch of preseason play. Oct 15, 3:06 pm
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) remains out on Saturday
Josh McRoberts (stress reaction in left foot) remains sidelined for Saturday's preseason contest vs. the Timberwolves.

Advice: Remember when McBob was once seen as the crucial cog that would keep LeBron in Miami? Good times. Oct 15, 3:04 pm
  • C.J. Miles (left knee) not a lock for opener
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) is not a lock to be ready by opening night.

Advice: Although he's labeled as day-to-day, nobody seems to really know when Miles will be able to get back onto the court. "He's being reevaluated as far as where he's at and being able to get on the floor," said head coach Nate McMillan. As a result, Glen Robinson III has been given a new opportunity and could be in line to begin the year in the rotation. When discussing Miles, McMillan confirmed that "Glenn has taken that spot." Oct 15, 2:10 pm
  • Chandler Parsons (knee surgery) out Saturday
Chandler Parsons (right knee surgery) will not play on Saturday vs. the Rockets.

Advice: No revenge game for Parsons here. The new max contract man continues to rehab, but the concerning part of that is how the updates on his potential return have been few and far between. There may not be a bigger high-risk, high-reward target in fantasy basketball right now. At this juncture, we're considering Parsons very questionable for opening night. Oct 15, 12:33 pm
