  • Nerlens Noel (knee) to have minor procedure
Nerlens Noel (knee, groin) has elected to address his injury via a minor surgical procedure "in the coming days," according to the 76ers.

Advice: That rules him out for the start of the season, and this is different from his groin injury. According to the team, "Noel reported localized soreness in his left knee. After consulting with multiple specialists, the source of the soreness was identified as inflamed plica." There is no timetable and the 76ers will undoubtedly take their time with him. At this point, Noel is only a borderline draft pick in standard leagues. Richaun Holmes and Joel Embiid benefit while Jahlil Okafor (knee) is still on a minutes cap. Today, 3:45 pm
  • Josh McRoberts out again on Friday
Josh McRoberts (foot) will not play on Friday.

Advice: The Heat are in no rush to bring him back. McRoberts has no timetable to return. Today, 3:21 pm
  • Jahlil Okafor (knee) to see 6-8 minutes Fri
Jahlil Okafor (knee) will play 6-8 minutes on Friday.

Advice: That likely means he's only getting one stint tonight. Joel Embiid and Richaun Holmes will take on most of the center minutes tonight. Okafor's health concerns and unclear role make him a fairly undesirable fantasy target. Today, 3:06 pm
  • Kings pick up option on WCS
The Kings picked up their option on Willie Cauley-Stein.

Advice: While he hasn't lived up to the billing just yet, Cauley-Stein has been solid. Coach Dave Joerger seems to be playing the Kentucky away from fellow UK product DeMarcus Cousins. He's more of a watch-list guy while the Kings are healthy up front. Today, 3:01 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) expected to play
Meyers Leonard (back) is expected to play on Friday night.

Advice: He went through a full practice on Thursday and it would appear he didn't have a setback. Leonard played 23 minutes back on Oct. 13 and hasn't played since. He was in a very favorable spot last year and couldn't get it going, but now it's going to be a lot tougher on a deep Portland squad. Today, 1:38 pm
  • JaVale McGee (left knee) on injury report
JaVale McGee (left knee strain) is questionable to play against the Blazers on Friday.

Advice: A strain indicates it's a muscle or tendon issue for the oft-injured big man. Assuming this is a minor injury, McGee is still expected to be on the roster for the Warriors to start the season. His garbage time minutes should be fun. Today, 12:35 pm
  • Boris Diaw (leg) on the injury report
Boris Diaw (left leg contusion) did not practice on Friday.

Advice: This is a new injury for Diaw. There was no indication of an injury before this, so it's likely just a light bruise. For now, expect Diaw to be available for the opener. Today, 12:16 pm
  • Derrick Favors (knee) still not practicing
Derrick Favors (left knee) did not practice on Friday.

Advice: Since his preseason debut back on Oct. 4, Favors has been on the injury report due to knee soreness. He had right knee soreness back in April and also missed one game due to left knee soreness in 2012. In other words, Favors' 25-year-old knees aren't in terrible shape. That said, he should be bumped down a round or two with this concern. Trey Lyles has added value. Today, 12:14 pm
  • Pelicans waive Robert Sacre
    Pelicans waive C Robert Sacre.

Advice: Sacre bleu! With the Pelicans playing Anthony Davis at the five a ton and Terrence Jones playing well, the Pelicans felt they didn't need one of the most excited bench players after someone else makes a big play. Today, 11:07 am
  • Darrell Arthur (knee) ruled out Friday
Darrell Arthur (knee surgery) will not play on Friday vs. Dallas.

Advice: There was some hope that Arthur could go after he took some contact in Thursday's practice, but the Nuggets aren't going to take any chances. The Nuggets going with a big lineup of Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic hurts Arthur's outlook, especially since he's behind Kenneth Faried on the depth chart. Arthur can be considered questionable for the opener. Today, 10:06 am
  • Clint Capela resting on Friday
Clint Capela is resting on Friday vs. the Spurs.

Advice: After a sluggish start to the preseason, Capela had his best game on Wednesday with 12 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and two turnovers. He will be a nice source of rebounds and blocks late, but his brutal free throw shooting will keep his value in check. Nene and Chinanu Onuaku will fill the void Friday. Today, 9:22 am
  • Sullinger out Friday, questionable for opener
Jared Sullinger (foot) will not play on Friday vs. the Wizards and coach Dwane Casey said he could miss the season opener.

Advice: Not good. Sullinger is still experiencing pain in his foot, so the Raptors are going to take another "look" at it. It sounds like they might run some tests, so we could have another update soon. With Sullinger iffy for the start of the season, Pascal Siakam could be in the rotation and Patrick Patterson will see a bump in minutes. Today, 8:23 am
  • Jahlil Okafor will play 8-10 minutes Friday
Jahlil Okafor (knee) will play 8-10 minutes on Friday vs. the Heat.

Advice: He was originally listed as doubtful, so this is a nice surprise. Okafor made it through the morning shootaround and this confirms that he should also be ready for opening night. He's coming off knee surgery and had a minor setback during training camp, so expectations should be tempered in the early going. With the emergence of Joel Embiid in the preseason, Okafor will come off the bench this season and is just a late-round pick. Today, 8:07 am
  • Stevens says Horford is a perfect fit
Celtics coach Brad Stevens said that Al Horford looks like the perfect fit for Boston.

Advice: "The ability to quickly move the ball and make the right decision — the ball never sticks with him," Stevens said. "We told him when he first got here that we just wanted him to be the best version of himself. He knows what he is good at and he is a great model for our younger players." Horford has looked great in limited action during the preseason, shooting 63.6 percent from the field and a combined 4-of-6 from 3-point range. He's an excellent pick in the second round of standard leagues. Today, 6:33 am
  • Taj Gibson has another solid game
Taj Gibson scored 12 points with nine rebounds and one block in 26 minutes on Thursday.

Advice: For a player to leapfrog another on the depth chart, one player will have to have a strong October while the other struggles. That's exactly what happened with Taj going off and Nikola Mirotic (back) flopping and getting hurt. Maybe a guy like Rajon Rondo can get Gibson going, so give him a look in the last couple rounds to see what happens. Yesterday, 8:59 pm
  • Jahlil Okafor (knee) doubtful Friday vs. MIA
Jahlil Okafor (knee) is doubtful to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Heat.

Advice: Okafor will be traveling with the team to Miami, and said that he's expecting to be available for opening night, but it sounds like he'll again be on the sidelines for Friday's meaningless game. Okafor isn't in a great situation coming off knee surgery and fighting for minutes in Philly's frontcourt, so he's not a great target in standard fantasy leagues. Yesterday, 4:11 pm
  • Darrell Arthur (knee) questionable for Friday
Darrell Arthur (knee surgery) took some contact during Thursday's practice, and there's a chance he can suit up for Friday's preseason finale against the Mavericks.

Advice: Friday will mark Day-10 of Arthur's initial 10-14 day timetable, so if he wakes up feeling fine after going through Thursday's practice, he could certainly be on the floor Friday night. That being said, he's not going to have any value in fantasy hoops this season while the team is healthy. Yesterday, 4:09 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) practices in full Thurs
Meyers Leonard (back) practiced in full with the Blazers on Thursday and is questionable to play on Friday.

Advice: Leonard spent the past two preseason games on the sidelines with the back issue, but he's on track to be good to go for opening night. In terms of fantasy hoops, Leonard really isn't an attractive target in most settings after last year's disastrous season. Yesterday, 3:52 pm
  • Ezeli (knee) limited at practice Thursday
Festus Ezeli (knee) was a limited participant during Thursday's practice.

Advice: Ezeli remains doubtful for the regular season opener, and he'll likely be brought along slowly once he is finally able to give it a go. In other words, he's not an attractive guy to draft in almost any format. Yesterday, 3:49 pm
  • Jahlil Okafor (knee) probable for opener?
Jahlil Okafor said that "everything's looking good" with his surgically repaired right knee, and he expects to be ready for the 76ers' regular-season opener against the Thunder.

Advice: He's doubtful to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Heat, and while he's expecting to play on opening night, we wouldn't be so sure as players are often overly optimistic when projecting their return from an injury. Okafor also said that he's "fine" coming off the bench this season, which is a good indication that his minutes will be limited to begin the year as he fights for playing time in Philly's overcrowded frontcourt. He's more of a late-round pick in deep leagues at the moment. Yesterday, 2:11 pm
  • JaVale McGee survives final roster cuts
JaVale McGee will likely be the 15th man on the Warriors' roster this season.

Advice: The Dubs trimmed the roster down to 15 guys on Thursday, and McGee is still there, so it's looking very likely that he'll be chasing a championship in Golden State this season. While McGee does give the Warriors a proven rim protector, he's not likely going to earn enough consistent playing time to warrant a roster spot in most settings. Yesterday, 12:02 pm
  • Jahlil Okafor doubtful for Friday vs Miami
Jahlil Okafor (knee) is doubtful for Friday's game against Miami.

Advice: Okafor still thinks he'll be able to play when the regular season begins, but Okafor continues to be listed as doubtful for Friday's preseason game agains the Heat. Okafor is stuck in a frontcourt logjam and is likely to see his minutes restricted to start the season, so he is only worth a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues at this point. Yesterday, 9:47 am
  • Josh McRoberts out Thursday vs Hornets
Josh McRoberts (left foot) will miss Thursday's game against the Hornets.

Advice: McRoberts has no set timetable for his return and has no fantasy value in standard fantasy leagues at the moment. Yesterday, 7:42 am
  • Derrick Favors (knee) questionable for opener
Derrick Favors (left knee) is questionable for Utah's season opener on Oct. 25, according to Jazz beat writer Tony Jones.

Advice: Jones wrote that he's "hearing [Favors] will be back for opener," but he also warned, "won't know his status until close to Tuesday ... he needs to practice first." There are obviously no guarantees that Favors won't begin the season with a DNP, but this is at least an optimistic tidbit for worried fantasy owners. Wednesday, 9:22 pm
  • Derrick Favors (left knee) sits out yet again
Derrick Favors (left knee) didn't play in Wednesday's preseason finale, as expected.

Advice: Favors hasn't practiced since Utah's preseason opener, which doesn't bode well for his opening-night status. He's dealing with IT band syndrome, which is related to overuse and causes pain during lateral movement, and rest is the primary prescription. There's enough risk here to bump him down a round or two on draft day. Wednesday, 8:37 pm
  • Meyers Leonard (back) out again Wednesday
Meyers Leonard (lower back) sat out again on Wednesday.

Advice: Leonard is dealing with soreness, which is understandable after a very long layoff following shoulder surgery. The Blazers haven't suggested that there's a structural issue here, so we're considering him questionable to rejoin the rotation on opening night. Wednesday, 8:34 pm
  • Clint Capela bounces back on Wednesday
Clint Capela got the start on Wednesday against the Mavs, finishing with 12 points, 13 rebounds, one assist and two turnovers.

Advice: With Nene resting, Capela needed to impress coach Mike D'Antoni. Luckily, he arguably had his best game of the month and did a fine job on the defensive end. His starting job isn't 100 percent locked up, so his awful foul shooting makes it tough to draft him unless you're punting free throw percentage. Wednesday, 8:15 pm
  • Meyers Leonard out again Wednesday
Meyers Leonard (back) will not play on Wednesday against the Jazz.

Advice: It'll be his second game out due to his troublesome back injury. Leonard will likely be limited in the regular season and his minutes are going to drop regardless. While he has upside, fantasy owners can take a wait-and-see approach. Wednesday, 4:39 pm
  • Jahlil Okafor (knee) doubtful for Friday
Jahlil Okafor (knee) is doubtful to play on Friday.

Advice: This is a small positive that the 76ers didn't rule him out. Okafor's right knee figures to keep his minutes down in the beginning of the season and Joel "The Process" Embiid figures to start. On top of that, it doesn't look like Brett Brown wants to go big-big at power forward and center. Okafor is only a late-round pick in most leagues. Wednesday, 2:01 pm
  • Robert Sacre (foot) probable for Thursday
Robert Sacre (foot) is probable to play on Thursday.

Advice: He's fighting for a roster spot and it won't be easy to make the team with Anthony Davis (ankle) set to play more minutes at center this year. Wednesday, 1:53 pm
  • Derrick Favors (knee) doubtful for Wednesday
Derrick Favors (left knee) did not go through shootaround and is not expected to play in Wednesday's exhibition game against the Trail Blazers.

Advice: Favors hasn't taken the court since October 3, and while IT band syndrome isn't typically a serious issue, the extended absence is concerning. Until we get some new info, we're going to consider him questionable for opening night, and with each day spent on the sidelines it's getting increasingly difficult to justify spending an early mid-round selection on Favors. If you do take the plunge on draft day, it would be wise to also invest a late-round selection in Trey Lyles as a handcuff pick. Wednesday, 10:19 am
  • Sullinger (ankle), Ross (knee) out Wednesday
Jared Sullinger (ankle) and Terrence Ross (knee) have been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Pistons.

Advice: Dwane Casey said that he's hopeful that Sullinger will be able to get on the floor for Friday's preseason finale against the Wizards, but he won't push him if he's not ready. As for Ross, Casey doesn't expect him to be available for Toronto's two remaining preseason games. Pattrick Patterson, Pascal Siakam and Bruno Caboclo will continue to pick up some extended minutes with both Sullinger and Ross on the sidelines. Wednesday, 9:30 am
  • Festus Ezeli (knee) not close to a return
Festus Ezeli (left knee surgery) is still not close to getting back on the court.

Advice: "We’re taking it day by day," said Ezeli. "There’s no timetable [for a return] when it comes to this stuff. It goes by feel. Some days I feel good. There are good days and bad days, but there’s progress overall." To this point Ezeli has only been able to go through light shooting drills, but taking contact remains off the table. It would be shocking to see Ezeli active on opening night, and the fact is he just won't have a large enough role in Portland to justify a draft pick in most settings. Wednesday, 7:37 am
  • Jahlil Okafor sits out Tuesday practice
Jahlil Okafor (right knee surgery) sat out Tuesday's practice.

Advice: Okafor has been making progress and appears on track to play in the regular season opener. "We held [Okafor] out today," Sixers head coach Brett Brown said. "We didn't want you to push it. He felt ok." While Okafor appears to be returning to full health, he's not much more than a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues as he's stuck in a frontcourt logjam. Tuesday, 10:45 am
  • Nerlens Noel, 76ers not talking extension yet
Nerlens Noel (groin) and the 76ers haven't talked about an extension yet.

Advice: The two sides have until October 31 to work out a deal that will keep Noel from becoming a restricted free agent after the 2016-17 season, but the two sides have yet to talk. "It's not really something that we've discussed, given some of the concerns that I think Nerlens has had, right now," said the team's president of basketball operations, Brian Colangelo. "There's been very little if any discussion with his agents about any extension scenarios." While the two sides will talk before the deadline, Noel isn't much more than a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues due to the 76ers crowded frontcourt. Tuesday, 10:09 am
  • Taj Gibson starts again at PF on Monday
Taj Gibson started Monday's game and had 12 points, six boards and two steals in just 17 minutes of action.

Advice: The veteran has been on fire all preseason and may have locked up the starting PF job alongside Robin Lopez, as guys like Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis have failed to separate themselves. Mirotic also suffered a strained lower back tonight, increasing the odds that Gibson will start on opening night. Monday, 8:06 pm
  • Al Horford scores five with two rebounds
Al Horford scored five points on 2-of-2 shooting with two rebounds and one 3-pointer in 12 minutes vs. the Nets on Monday.

Advice: He hasn’t played a lot during the preseason, but he has been incredibly efficient with his new team — he’s shooting 68.0 percent from the field and is a perfect 5-of-5 from 3-point range. He’s healthy and will be the focal point of a lethal Celtics’ offense, so he’s the definition of a safe pick in the second round. Monday, 7:24 pm
  • Hill, Exum, Johnson, Diaw and Gobert starting
George Hill, Dante Exum, Joe Johnson, Boris Diaw and Rudy Gobert will start vs. the Clippers on Monday.

Advice: Derrick Favors (knee) and Rodney Hood (hand) have both been ruled out in addition to Alec Burks (knee, ankle) and Gordon Hayward (finger). We should see plenty of late-round sleeper Trey Lyles on Monday as well. Monday, 5:15 pm
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) out Tuesday
Josh McRoberts (stress reaction in left foot) will not play vs. the Magic on Tuesday.

Advice: The oft-injured forward has no set timetable for a return and has no fantasy value. Monday, 3:14 pm
  • Robert Sacre (right foot) out Tuesday
Robert Sacre (right foot) will not play vs. the Hawks on Tuesday.

Advice: At best, Sacre will be the third-string center this season. Monday, 2:54 pm
  • Kerr: JaVale has good chance to make team
Coach Steve Kerr said JaVale McGee has "got a good chance" of making the Warriors.

Advice: He deserves it and not just for the fun value. The Warriors are thin up front and McGee's style of play would fit as a rim-protecting big man. He's not on the fantasy radar yet, but he could be should Zaza Pachulia miss time. The NBA's most entertaining team looks like it'll be even more so this year. Monday, 12:43 pm
  • Sullinger says his ankle issue isn't serious
Jared Sullinger isn't sure of his status for the Raptors' final two preseason games, but hinted that the injury isn't serious.

Advice: Sullinger said that his foot was stepped on during the game against the Warriors and added that he tried to play through it, but the soreness persisted. Since then, the Raptors have been cautious and want to make sure he's 100 percent for the opener. As the starting PF in Toronto, Sully has some late-round appeal in standard leagues. Monday, 10:15 am
  • Derrick Favors (left knee) out Monday
Derrick Favors (left knee) did not go through the morning shootaround and will not play on Monday vs. the Clippers.

Advice: This isn't a surprise considering he was listed as doubtful. The Jazz haven't provided a timetable and he's been out for nearly two weeks, so this is a little concerning. It should be the Trey Lyles show tonight with a sprinkle of Boris Diaw. Monday, 10:09 am
  • Jahlil Okafor (knee) scrimmaging Monday
Jahlil Okafor (right knee surgery) was able to scrimmage on Monday.

Advice: He's clearly making progress and it's worth noting that he was playing alongside Joel Embiid during the scrimmage. 76ers coach Brett Brown has said that he expects Okafor to be ready for the opener, and the young center added on Monday that he's on track to play as well. Monday, 9:41 am
  • Meyers Leonard (back) ruled out vs. Nuggets
Meyers Leonard (lower back) won't play vs. the Nuggets on Sunday.

Advice: Leonard said the injury bothered him during Tuesday's game vs. the Lakers, and he "felt it was best to rest" in a meaningless preseason game. We're considering him day-to-day until further notice, but this does nothing to help his shaky fantasy appeal in a crowded Blazers' frontcourt. Sunday, 5:16 pm
  • Derrick Favors (knee) doubtful Monday vs. LAC
Derrick Favors (left knee) is doubtful to suit up for Monday's preseason game against the Clippers.

Advice: Favors still hasn't practiced or played since the preseason opener, and with the regular season just a little over a week away, he's now in jeopardy of not being ready for opening night. The Jazz maintain that Favors' injury is not to be considered a long-term issue, but knee injuries for big men are nothing to shrug at. He's still too talented to let him fall out of the middle rounds on draft day, but there will now be some added risk in selecting a guy that only made it through 62 games last year. Trey Lyles will be the primary beneficiary if Favors is forced to miss any regular season action. Sunday, 11:56 am
  • JaVale McGee could make the roster?
JaVale McGee scored 12 points with four rebounds, one steal and two blocks in 14 minutes against the Lakers on Saturday.

Advice: He played very well with a lot of energy. About 90 percent of the time you see McGee on a highlight, it's him falling over or doing something silly, but he had a couple fantastic offensive plays. He could make the team. Saturday, 9:38 pm
  • Clint Capela could lose burn?
Clint Capela scored nine points with nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and three turnovers in just 12 minutes on Saturday.

Advice: His minutes are no longer safe with coach Mike D'Antoni liking Nene and Montrezl Harrell. Capela is a solid guy to have around the rim, but his offensive deficiencies have been well documented. He's only a last-round flier until he can show he's capable of locking down minutes in the 20s. Saturday, 8:57 pm
  • Willie Cauley-Stein looks good in Kentucky
Willie Cauley-Stein got the start on Saturday with 12 points, five rebounds, one assist, four steals and one block in 22 minutes.

Advice: He needed a big game and came through. To be fair, it may have helped him to play on his college court at University of Kentucky. The Kings have gone with Kosta Koufos as a starter next to DeMarcus Cousins more than anyone else, so Koufos looks to be ahead. Most fantasy owners can wait to see how this plays out before pouncing on WCS or Koufos as a late pick. Koufos finished with eight points, four rebounds and one block in 20 minutes. Saturday, 7:42 pm
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) remains out on Saturday
Josh McRoberts (stress reaction in left foot) remains sidelined for Saturday's preseason contest vs. the Timberwolves.

Advice: Remember when McBob was once seen as the crucial cog that would keep LeBron in Miami? Good times. Saturday, 3:04 pm
  • Brown expects Jahill Okafor (knee) for opener
Brett Brown expects Jahlil Okafor (right knee surgery) to be available for Philadelphia's regular season opener.

Advice: Unlike Nerlens Noel (groin) who is doubtful to begin the regular season on time, Okafor is expected to be ready by the time the real action gets underway. Big Jah won't play in Saturday's preseason game and may not play at all before the regular season, and it's worth noting that he'll be on a minutes restriction when he is finally cleared to get back onto the floor. Joel Embiid's arrow continues to point up. Saturday, 2:38 pm
  • Nerlens Noel (groin) doubtful to begin season
Nerlens Noel (groin) will not play on Saturday and is doubtful to participate in Philadelphia's season opener.

Advice: It must be a pretty serious groin strain for Noel to be out for such an extended period of time, and it's unclear what his role might be when he is finally ready to return. Joel Embiid (foot) has been very impressive and Jahlil Okafor (knee surgery) is ahead of Noel in his rehab process. Even if you're banking on him being traded, it's getting increasingly difficult to draft Noel in fantasy leagues given his clouded outlook. Saturday, 2:33 pm
  • Festus Ezeli (knee) remains without timetable
Festus Ezeli (knee) was able to participate in some light shooting after Saturday's practice, but he still has no timetable to return.

Advice: Beat writer Jason Quick states it's the "most" he's seen Ezeli do this season, and that's a stark indication of where the big man is in his recovery process. It would be surprising to see Ezeli in uniform on opening night, and his ongoing knee issues are a major factor in why his free agent market was much quieter than most had once expected. Saturday, 12:26 pm
  • Derrick Favors (L knee) still not practicing
Derrick Favors (left knee, IT band syndrome) is still not practicing on Saturday.

Advice: It's been nearly two weeks since Favors hit the sidelines with this injury, and there is really no current indication of when he could be back on the floor. Although Quin Snyder does not believe the injury is a long-term concern, the updates have been few and far between and mostly speculative in nature. We're not knocking Favors down our draft boards considerably, but if you're trying to decide between the big man and another target in your draft, you'll want to consider this information closely and carefully before making your choice. Any length of absence for Favors in the regular season would mean more playing time for Trey Lyles as well as Boris Diaw. Saturday, 11:19 am
  • Taj Gibson starts at PF, posts 18 and 11
Taj Gibson's fantastic preseason continued on Friday against the Cavs B team, scoring 18 points with 11 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 20 minutes.

Advice: He's also going to rest on Saturday. While it makes very little sense to start Gibson from a spacing standpoint, how can the Bulls not right now? He's been effective for all four games on both ends while Nikola Mirotic had one game. In his last two games, Gibson made 18-of-21 from the field in just 40 minutes. His awesome preseason puts him on the radar as a last-round pick. Friday, 7:39 pm
  • Jared Sullinger out again on Friday
Jared Sullinger (ankle) will not play on Friday.

Advice: He's been out for most of this month and has been limited in practice. Sullinger is expected to play minutes at both the four and the five, and he is going to have a green light from three. There should still be better options in 12-team leagues. Friday, 2:55 pm
  • Nerlens Noel doing some work in practice
Nerlens Noel (groin) received treatment and took part in some drills on Friday.

Advice: Based on some videos at the practice facility, it didn't look like Noel is taking contact yet. He has been on the injury report since Oct. 6 and is likely to miss more games going forward. While Noel has been effective as a fantasy asset for his defense, his playing time doesn't look like it'll be more than his 29.3 minutes per game from last year. It's tough to take him in the middle rounds these days. Friday, 11:27 am
  • Jahlil Okafor is limited in practice
Jahlil Okafor (right knee) was limited in practice on Friday.

Advice: He did some scripting and individual work, but not live practice. Okafor's knee soreness has kept him out of the preseason action, which has led to Joel Embiid and Richaun Holmes exceeding expectations. With Embiid playing like he has, Okafor is only a late-round pick right now. Friday, 11:24 am
  • Taj Gibson starting at PF on Friday
Taj Gibson will start at power forward vs. the Cavaliers on Friday.

Advice: Gibson, Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis each had one start to their name prior to this report, so maybe this means Gibson has the edge right now. He has certainly earned it, scoring 20 points on 9-of-9 shooting with five rebounds and two steals in his last outing. Coach Fred Hoiberg still won't commit to a starting lineup, but Gibson could secure the job with another strong performance. Doug McDermott will replace Jimmy Butler (rest) at SF. Friday, 9:44 am
  • Jared Sullinger out for Thursday
Jared Sullinger (ankle) will not play against the Cavs on Thursday.

Advice: He's still sidelined by his ankle injury from back on Oct. 1. With Sullinger out, we'll get a longer look at Patrick Patterson and Pascal Siakam. Sullinger is only a last-round flier in deeper leagues. Thursday, 4:09 pm
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) out Friday vs. Spurs
Josh McRoberts (left foot) is listed as "out" for Friday's preseason game against the Spurs.

Advice: McRoberts continues to rehab from the stress reaction in his left foot, and it's unclear if he'll be ready for opening night. You'd have to be in an insanely deep league to even consider drafting McBob. Thursday, 1:33 pm
  • JaVale McGee looking to rebuild his image
JaVale McGee is looking to rebuild his image with a solid season with the Warriors.

Advice: McGee doesn't have the best reputation around the league, but he's hoping he can rebuild his image with Golden State. "I’m not a bad guy," McGee said. "You can’t go to one person in the league and they’ll say ‘JaVale is a bad guy, a bad influence.’ You know what I’m saying? I don’t go out. I don’t drink." McGee isn't a lock to make the Warriors final roster, but he won't have much fantasy value if he does. Thursday, 6:59 am
  • Derrick Favors' left knee still inflamed
Jazz coach Quin Snyder said about Derrick Favors' left knee injury, "It’s got to get less inflamed ... presumably, he’ll be back sooner than later."

Advice: Favors is dealing with IT band syndrome, which causes pain when the knee moves laterally and is typically associated with overuse among runners. "I don't think it's anything we're putting a long timetable on," Snyder said. Favors missed 20 games last year, due largely to a nagging back injury, but in his first five seasons he averaged just 5.4 DNPs. We're considering him questionable for opening night. • Derrick Favors (knee), Hood out Wednesday
Derrick Favors (knee) and Rodney Hood (hand) have been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game vs. the Suns.

Advice: Favors is dealing with IT band syndrome in his left knee, and while that typically isn't a major issue, it needs to be noted that Favors does have a history with nagging knee injuries. He's still a worthwhile early-round target, but there's some increased risk here. Hood's injury seems very minor, and it would be shocking if he weren't good to go for Utah's regular-season opener against the Blazers on Oct. 25. Trey Lyles and Joe Johnson will log extended minutes sans Favors and Hood. Wednesday, 10:10 am
  • Clint Capela (hamstring) out Wednesday vs. NO
Clint Capela (tight hamstring) was withheld from Wednesday's preseason game vs. the Pelicans as a precautionary measure.

Advice: Capela got in a good workout during shootaround, so not much should be read into the Rockets' decision to withhold him from Wednesday's meaningless game. Houston is off until Saturday's preseason matchup against the Grizzlies, so chances are Capela will be back in uniform for that one. He's an awful free throw shooter, but as an above average shot blocker with double-double potential, Capela is worth a late-round look in standard leagues. Wednesday, 6:14 am
  • Meyers Leonard (shoulder) scores 11 in return
Meyers Leonard (shoulder) returned to action on Tuesday vs. the Lakers, scoring 11 points on 4-of-10 shooting with six boards, one assist, one block and one trey in 20 minutes.

Advice: He had shoulder surgery back in March and was just cleared for 5-on-5 work last week, so it appears that he's ahead of schedule. Leonard was a bust last season, and while the upside is still there, the path to minutes isn't -- the Blazers have three capable centers in Mason Plumlee, Ed Davis and Festus Ezeli (knee), so Leonard will have to fight for scraps behind Al-Farouq Aminu and Moe Harkless at the four. Tuesday, 10:01 pm
  • Robert Sacre (right foot) out Wednesday
Robert Sacre (right foot) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Rockets.

Advice: He's not guaranteed a roster spot in New Orleans, and it's not a good sign that the Pelicans have already ruled him out. He's completely off the fantasy radar. Tuesday, 5:13 pm
  • Darrell Arthur hopes to return in two weeks
Darrell Arthur (knee surgery) said that he's hopeful he can get back on the court in 10-14 days.

Advice: Arthur is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, but he's hopeful that he can get a few practices in before the regular season begins. He's not worth drafting anywhere. Tuesday, 1:09 pm
  • Nerlens Noel out against Grizzlies on Tuesday
Nerlens Noel (groin) won't play against the Grizzlies on Tuesday.

Advice: Noel didn't travel with the team, and it looks like he could miss some extra time. Noel is a risky target at the end of fantasy drafts, as he's set to start the season coming off the bench. However, he has enough upside to be worth a late-round flier -- especially with trade possibilities at play. Tuesday, 10:52 am
