  • Cuban: Harrison Barnes isn't our No. 1 option
Mark Cuban said that he does not expect Harrison Barnes to be the top option in Dallas.

Advice: Considering the Mavs just gave Barnes nearly $100M, we're not sure this is exactly what fans wanted to hear. "Now are we asking him to come in and be our leading scorer day one? No," Cuban said. "I think we'll have a great balance of scoring attack. There are going to be days he scores four points and games when he scores 25 points. As long as we're getting the defensive effort." Given how horrific Barnes looked during the preseason, we're not sure Cuban is going to get what he's asking for. And that usually doesn't end up well. Yesterday, 3:23 pm
  • Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) practices Saturday
Luc Mbah a Moute (right knee contusion) returned to practice on Saturday.

Advice: The veteran expects to be available for the season opener. Even though he's likely to start at small forward, there is absolutely no fantasy value in any format to be seen here. Yesterday, 1:52 pm
  • Hornacek disappointed to lose Lou Amundson
Jeff Hornacek was disappointed that the Knicks had to waive Lou Amundson.

Advice: "With Lou, it came down to a matter of how many bigs we have. We have a lot of bigs on the team," Hornacek said. "So that was a tough one." Amundson is nearing the end of the road in his NBA career. Yesterday, 1:42 pm

  • Celtics waive Ryan Kelly on Saturday
    Celtics waive F Ryan Kelly.

Advice: Kelly was just signed on Friday, but this was done so the Celtics could have his D-League rights. The expectation is for the stretch forward to head to Maine and play for the Red Claws. Yesterday, 1:18 pm
  • Spurs decide to waive Livio Jean-Charles
    Spurs waive F Livio Jean-Charles.

Advice: It might be surprising for some, but he just hasn't been the same since he started to have knee issues. Despite being owed $2.4M over the course of the next two seasons, Jean-Charles—a former first-round pick—will not be a part of San Antonio's immediate plans. Yesterday, 12:58 pm
  • Arinze Onuaku makes Magic's final roster
Arinze Onuaku has made the Magic's final roster.

Advice: After spending last season in Israel and the Philippines, Onuaku has found his way back into the NBA. However, he's not going to be in the rotation unless there are injuries ahead of him. There is no fantasy value here. Yesterday, 12:45 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) practices on Saturday
Nikola Mirotic (back) returned to a full practice on Saturday.

Advice: Although Fred Hoiberg has not yet decided on Chicago's opening night power forward, the expectation is for Mirotic to be available. Mirotic has the potential to be an intriguing fantasy commodity, but he's more of a flier right now given his competition for minutes as well as his uncertain role. Yesterday, 12:21 pm
  • Wizards waive Johnny O'Bryant
The Wizards have waived Johnny O'Byrant.

Advice: He was on a non-guaranteed deal and was outplayed by Daniel Ochefu during the preseason. Yesterday, 7:51 am
  • Hawks GM: Re-signing Millsap a priority
Hawks GM Wes Wilcox hinted that the team will make it a priority to re-sign Paul Millsap.

Advice: "Paul is a great professional, and it’s absolutely our goal for Paul to be a Hawk long-term," Wilcox said. "It’s as simple as that." Millsap has a player option for the 2017-18 season and has been the subject of trade rumors for a couple seasons now, but we'd expect him to opt out and take advantage of the rising salary cap. With that said, the Hawks are committed to him and his status as a top-15 pick in standard leagues is safe. Yesterday, 7:20 am
  • Blazers will waive Grant Jerrett
The Blazers will waive forward Grant Jerrett.

Advice: Their roster is now down to 15 players. Expect Jerrett to end up in the D-League. Yesterday, 6:17 am
  • Unfair Advantage: Durant drops 28-7-6 line
Kevin Durant was unfair against the Blazers on Friday, scoring 28 points with seven rebounds, six assists, one block and five 3-pointers in 30 minutes.

Advice: So that's a wrap for his preseason. Durant finished with a 70.0 true shooting percentage to go with his 28.3 usage rate. What's more, KD's per-36-minute scoring in the preseason was 29.8, which is actually a better rate than last season. The former MVP was playing more like his teammate Stephen Curry with numerous highlight reel treys. He could still wind up being fantasy's top player. Friday, 10:49 pm
  • Nikola Jokic will be the starting PF
Nikola Jokic be the starting power forward for the regular season.

Advice: His minutes were safe regardless. Jokic still struggles on closing out on pick-and-pop plays, but he has shown some improvement. Coach Mike Malone must also feel confident in Jokic's perimeter D or else he wouldn't make this move. He's a per-minute monster and deserves a selection in the early rounds of fantasy drafts. Friday, 10:00 pm
  • Kenneth Faried to come off the bench
Kenneth Faried will come off the bench this regular season.

Advice: He had a good game on Friday, scoring 10 points with nine rebounds, one assist and one steal in 21 minutes. With Nikola Jokic set to play minutes at both big spots and coach Mike Malone loving to go small, Faried's playing time may only be hanging in the low 20s. He's also a trade candidate given Denver's depth -- that might be a good thing. If you draft Faried late, make sure your expectations are somewhat low. Friday, 9:56 pm
  • Harrison Barnes' bad preseason finally ends
Harrison Barnes did not do much on Friday, scoring eight points with three rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes.

Advice: It was a preseason to forget for Harry B. The Mavs are obviously committed to him with his $94 million deal, so he has a leash as long as Texas as the starting small forward. Barnes is being put into a new role and it's really tough to invest anything more than a late-round pick on him based on how awful he looked this month. Friday, 9:48 pm
  • Jerami Grant scores 17 points
Jerami Grant scored 17 points with four rebounds, one assist, two steals and no turnovers in 24 minutes on Friday.

Advice: Robert Covington (ankle) couldn't return, so Grant saw some added run. Grant's offensive arsenal has grown this preseason and he'll be asked to play both forward spots. He's still likely to be a major problem in the percentage categories, so it's tough to target him in standard leagues. Friday, 9:03 pm
  • Dario Saric scores 19 with seven boards
Dario Saric scored 19 points with seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and one 3-pointer in 29 minutes on Friday.

Advice: Former GM Sam Hinkie must feel like a proud papa here with his stashed guy playing his best game. Saric was playing through an abdominal injury in this game, but coach Brett Brown really wanted to have his starting power forward get a feel for a full complement of minutes. The rookie will have some ups and downs, but his diversity on the stat sheet makes him a prime pick late in drafts. Friday, 9:00 pm
  • D-Will, Wes, Harry B, Dirk & Bogut to start
Deron Williams, Wesley Matthews, Harrison Barnes, Dirk Nowitzki and Andrew Bogut will start on Friday.

Advice: Let's all hope Harry B can get it going. He's had a really rough time this month. Friday, 5:57 pm
  • Celtics sign Ryan Kelly
    Celtics sign F Ryan Kelly.

Advice: He won't be making the big club. Friday, 5:33 pm
  • Lou Amundon gets waived
    Knicks waive F/C Lou Amundson.

Advice: He had a guaranteed portion to his contract, so the Knicks let talent trump money on this one. Amundson will likely get picked back up at some point after he gets healthy. Friday, 11:25 am

  • Luc Mbah a Moute limited in practice
Luc Mbah a Moute (knee) was limited in practice on Friday.

Advice: He has a right knee contusion, but he's fully expected to be ready to start the season. Mbah a Mouse could start for the Clippers, but he's coming off a tiny 9.3 usage rate last year. There is not enough upside to draft him almost anywhere. Friday, 11:18 am
  • Paul Millsap gets 28 minutes vs. Bulls
Paul Millsap scored nine points with eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and four turnovers in 28 minutes against the Bulls on Thursday.

Advice: The minutes increase is the big takeaway here. Millsap only played 19 minutes in his preseason debut due to his minor knee procedure last month and he even had a minor car crash earlier this week. Millsap can do it all and hasn't dealt with knee issues for the past few years up until this recent hiccup, so fire him up as a late-first pick. Thursday, 8:50 pm
  • Mbah a Moute (knee) doesn't practice Thursday
Luc Mbah a Moute (right knee contusion) sat out Thursday's practice.

Advice: Mbah a Moute is simply dealing with a bruised knee, and head coach Doc Rivers expects him to be fully recovered in the next day or so. Mbah a Moute will likely shuffle in and out of the starting five this season based on matchups, but his fantasy value will remain non-existent regardless of how he enters the game. Thursday, 11:45 am
  • Kevin Durant racks up 27/6/4 in 31 minutes
Kevin Durant finished Wednesday's victory with 27 points on 10-of-19 shooting, six boards, four assists, two steals and one block in 31 minutes of action.

Advice: This marks a preseason high for Durant in scoring and free throws made (7-of-7), but it's also the first time that he's logged more than 26 minutes. He's yet to miss from the line in 26 attempts and he's a combined 14-of-26 from downtown this preseason, the type of efficiency you'd expect from a former MVP. A dip in usage and shot attempts is probable, but concerns about his ability to share the court with the Warriors' incumbent scorers are overblown. Wednesday, 10:11 pm
  • Harry Bad: Barnes now at just 35.3 TS% as Mav
Harrison Barnes' disastrous preseason continued on Wednesday, making 1-of-9 from the field for eight points with three rebounds and two turnovers.

Advice: So it turns out Kevin Durant is an upgrade over Harry B. In the preseason, Barnes has a woeful 35.2 true shooting percentage, including just 17.1 percent on his jumpers. We've seen Barnes have rough stretches for months at a time, but needless to say the Mavs aren't feeling great about paying him. If he falls to the last few rounds, he still might be worth a late pick. Wednesday, 8:45 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) out for Thursday
Nikola Mirotic (back) will not travel for Thursday's game.

Advice: He was in some pain from his back injury on Monday. Mirotic has likely lost his chance to start on opening night with Taj Gibson leapfrogging him. With Mirotic out, Bobby Portis should have a bigger role off the bench. While Mirotic has lost some value, he's still a decent flier at the end of drafts. Wednesday, 11:09 am
  • Brown unconcerned with Saric's shooting woes
Brett Brown was not at all concerned when discussing Dario Saric's recent shooting struggles.

Advice: "[It's no surprise] at all," Brown said of Saric's recent shooting struggles. "It's going to happen throughout the year. It's just a long year and it's a new year and it's an unfamiliar year with teammates and coaches and everything." Over the past three preseason games, Saric has shot just 5-of-22 from the field, but he believes once he stops rushing things his shot will come back to him. Like most rookies, turnovers and shooting percentages will likely be an issue for Saric, but he has the ability to bring a little bit of everything to the stat sheet making him an alluring late-round target. Wednesday, 6:57 am
  • Kenneth Faried appears headed for bench
Kenneth Faried came off the bench again on Tuesday and hit 4-of-7 shots for nine points, two rebounds and a block in 16 minutes.

Advice: It looks like Jusuf Nurkic will start at center and Nikola Jokic will get the nod at power forward, pushing Faried to the bench. He's been disappointing nearly every season he's been in the league and having to battle with Jokic for minutes and production could be a rough road for the Manimal. He's nothing more than a late-round fantasy flier right now. Tuesday, 8:07 pm
  • Nikola Jokic scores 11 Tuesday
Nikola Jokic hit 5-of-9 shots for 11 points, six rebounds, one assist, one steal and zero blocks in 26 minutes on Tuesday.

Advice: He's going to start at power forward, with Jusuf Nurkic at center, assuming nothing changes between now and the start of the season. Jokic's preseason has been a bit disappointing, but the talent is there and we're still expecting a pretty big year from him. However, the sudden rise of Nurkic hasn't done him any favors thus far, and may negatively impact him for the foreseeable future. Tuesday, 8:04 pm
  • Hawks waive Ryan Kelly
The Hawks have waived Ryan Kelly.

Advice: The Hawks' roster is down to 18 after they let go of Matt Costello earlier in the week. Kelly will likely end up in the D-League or head overseas. Tuesday, 7:39 pm
  • Paul Millsap expected to play Tuesday vs. NO
Paul Millsap was involved in a car accident late Monday evening, but he came away uninjured and is expected to play in Tuesday's preseason game against the Pelicans.

Advice: Millsap was a full participant during Tuesday morning's shootaround, so he should be just fine for tonight's meaningless matchup with the Pelicans. He's a safe first-round target in any setting. Tuesday, 12:34 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) doesn't practice Tues
Nikola Mirotic (strained back) was unable to practice on Tuesday, and his status for Thursday's preseason game against the Hawks remains uncertain.

Advice: Mirotic sustained the injury during Monday's preseason loss to the Hornets, and it wouldn't be surprising at all to see him sit out Thursday's meaningless game if there's any question at all that he's not completely recovered. Consistency has been a major issue for Mirotic through his first two years in the league, but when he's on, he's capable of producing at a top-60 level. Tuesday, 11:43 am
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) says he's day-to-day
Nikola Mirotic (strained back) said he is "day to day" after being injured during Monday's preseason game.

Advice: Mirotic didn't return after feeling a "sharp pain," and the Bulls will assuredly play it safe with him over the next week. Fantasy owners should keep a very close watch for updates, but for now this doesn't sound serious enough to bump him down draft boards. Monday, 8:12 pm
  • Mirotic (lower back strain) will not return
Nikola Mirotic (lower back strain) will not return to Monday's game vs. the Hornets.

Advice: He took a hard fall and the Bulls aren't going to take any chances here. He played 10 minutes, but missed all four of his shots from the field (all 3-pointers) with two rebounds and one steal. If he's forced to miss time, Taj Gibson will be looking at heavy minutes and Bobby Portis will take over the backup role. It's been a miserable preseason for Mirotic. Monday, 7:03 pm
  • Paul Millsap returns with 19/9/7 in 19 mins
Paul Millsap (knee, illness) looked great in 19 minutes on Sunday, scoring 19 points with nine rebounds, seven assists, two 3-pointers and one turnover.

Advice: It was Millsap's first preseason action due to knee soreness, but he directed the offense and showed no signs of rust at either end of the court. The veteran should be even busier than usual offensively with Al Horford out of town -- Millsap's true shooting percentage and point per possession were almost identical without Horford on the court last year, but his usage rate jumped from 22.9 percent to 26.7 percent. He's a strong early-round target in almost any format. Oct 16, 5:47 pm
  • Paul Millsap (knee, illness) starting Sunday
Paul Millsap (knee, illness) will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's preseason game against the Magic.

Advice: Will Bynum, DeAndre Bembry, Thabo Sefolosha and Mike Muscala will be joining Millsap in the starting five for Sunday's meaningless game with Dennis Schroder, Kyle Korver, Kent Bazemore and Dwight Howard all sitting this one out for rest purposes. Millsap will be making his preseason debut after undergoing a knee procedure over the offseason, but his minutes will more than likely be limited. He's obviously going to be fine for opening night, and is a safe first-round target. Oct 16, 2:08 pm
  • KD, Klay & Curry combined for 55 on 78.1 TS%
Kevin Durant made 7-of-11 from the field for 17 points against the Lakers on Saturday, adding five rebounds, two assists, one steal, two blocks, no turnovers and three 3-pointers.

Advice: That's quite a stat line and drives home the point of how Durant is not just a scorer. Speaking of scoring, Stephen Curry scored 14 points on 5-of-9 from the field and Klay Thompson scored 24 points on 9-of-13 from the field. The three of them combined for 55 points on a pristine 78.1 true shooting percentage and were wide open all night. When they're on, this team will be impossible to defend and there will be plenty of nights they're scoring over 130. KD is still a top-four pick in standard leagues. Oct 15, 9:50 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic scores 14 points vs. Bucks
Nikola Mirotic scored 14 points with five rebounds, one assist, one block and two 3-pointers in 26 minutes on Saturday.

Advice: With Taj Gibson resting, the pressure was on Mirotic to have a good game. He's had terrible games more often than not and he's losing his grasp on the starting spot. If Mirotic can't hold the starting job, his ability to score won't be as important due to how the second unit has some shooters. Obviously depending on who else is out there, pouncing on Mirotic just after 100 seems like a sound investment. Oct 15, 8:27 pm
  • Dario Saric has another sub-par showing
Dario Saric scored eight points with five rebounds and one assist in 22 minutes against the Pistons on Saturday.

Advice: The 76ers as a whole had a rough time on offense tonight, making just 36.8 percent from the field. Saric has gone cold over his last three games at just 22.7 percent from the field in that span with no treys or defensive stats. The 76ers do seem committed to him and Ben Simmons (foot) could miss the entire season, so Saric makes sense in the later rounds to see what he can do in the starting lineup. Oct 15, 6:40 pm
  • Paul Millsap (knee) to make debut on Sunday
Paul Millsap (knee, illness) will play on Sunday vs. the Magic.

Advice: Officially, he's listed as probable. Millsap has been recovering from a minor procedure on his right knee back on September 22, but he has been practicing for a few days now and appears prepared to make his preseason debut. Additionally, he said that he has "no restrictions" and that he's "full go." Despite the quote, Millsap's workload will be limited to about 18 minutes on Sunday. He's a top-10 stud that is usually available in the second round of fantasy drafts. Oct 15, 10:49 am
  • Nikola Jokic posts double-double vs. GSW
Nikola Jokic was effective against the Warriors on Friday, scoring 14 points with 10 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes.

Advice: There he is. Before this game, Jokic's usage rate and rebound rate are both less than half than Jusuf Nurkic's in their playing time together this preseason. Disappointing preseason aside, Jokic is still set up for a big year with minutes at two positions. He's a high-ceiling pick in the early rounds. Oct 14, 9:24 pm
  • The Homie struggles on the road
Dario Saric struggled against the Wizards on Thursday, making 1-of-8 from the field for six points with two rebounds and three turnovers in 23 minutes.

Advice: He's mentioned his legs weren't there earlier this week and maybe he's still getting into an NBA routine. Coach Brett Brown is already a big fan of Saric, saying he's very comfortable on long twos, is an intellectual, and capable of establishing a strong rapport with all of the Philly centers. He's going to be inconsistent, but fantasy owners can pounce on The Homie after the high-upside sleepers come off the board. Oct 13, 6:52 pm
  • McConnell, Hendo, RoCo, Saric, Embiid start
T.J. McConnell, Gerald Henderson, Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid will start Thursday vs. the Wizards.

Advice: Saric was handed a rest day during Philly's last exhibition game, but he'll be back on the court tonight. With Ben Simmons (foot) out indefinitely, Saric should see an increased role and a healthy amount of minutes for the 76ers this season, making him an alluring late-round target. Oct 13, 2:47 pm
  • Paul Millsap out against vs Detroit on Thurs
Paul Millsap (illness) will miss Thursday's game against Detroit.

Advice: Millsap has sat out two straight practices, but there's nothing long-term to worry about here. Millsap will be ready for the regular season and will be worth a pick at the end of the first-round of fantasy drafts. Oct 13, 9:10 am
  • Dario Saric expected to play vs Wizards Thurs
Dario Saric is expected to play against the Wizards on Thursday.

Advice: Saric sat out Tuesday's game against the Grizzlies for rest purposes, so there aren't any injury concerns to worry about here. Saric will see an uptick in minutes while Ben Simmons (foot) is out, and he's worth a look in the second half of fantasy drafts. Oct 13, 8:16 am
