  • Report: Rockets not interested in Sessions
The Rockets are not interested in Bucks' guard Ramon Sessions.

Advice: Rockets beat writer Jonathan Feigen called the chances Sessions ends up in Houston "unlikely." News that the Rockets were trying to swing a sign-and-trade emerged Monday, but now it appears a chance of a swap is off the table. Sessions is a nice backup point guard, but should not be on fantasy radars until he has defined role on a team.

  • Laker's PT raves about Kobe's pain tolerance
Lakers physical therapist Judy Seto called Kobe Bryant's pain tolerance "the highest that I've ever seen."

Advice: "I think that trait makes him who he is, and his ability to focus also allows him to channel his energies," she said. "It's not that he doesn't feel pain; it's how he responds." Kobe is looking to bounce back from two season-ending injuries. If he can return to anything close to his 2012-2013 pre-injury form, he could be a steal at his current mid 3rd-round ADP.

  • Damian Lillard next in line for Team USA
Damian Lillard will be brought back to team USA if another player drops out of the FIBA World Cup, according to Chris Haynes of Comcast Sportsnet.

Advice: Lillard has said that he would indeed go back to team USA if called and he and Jerry Colangelo have already talked about a possible reunion according to Haynes. "It's something we did discuss with Damian," Colangelo told "We'll see what happens." The FIBA World Championship begins on August 30th and final rosters must be submitted at least 24 hours before competition begins.

  • Timofey Mozgov not forcing his way out of DEN
Timofey Mozgov said on Thursday that "all the talks about [a] trade to Cleveland are just rumors."

Advice: "My last season in Denver was good," he continued. "And to try and do something to leave the team wouldn't be smart." Mozgov also admitted that he does not want to join the Cavaliers to simply coast to a championship. "I would like to play with LeBron. But even though playing for a contender is cool, you got to understand that I want to be part of the team and not to just join a contender and ride the coattails, being a burden."

  • Cavs GM 'concerned' with rim protection
Cavaliers general manager David Griffin admitted that he has "concerns [about the team's] ability to protect the rim."

Advice: Griffin also said that his concerns are not "just a Kevin [Love] question" and that he is not worried about "Kevin's ability to be in right place at right time [on defense]" Kevin Love's defensive abilities have come under fire as of late, specifically from his previous team owner Glen Taylor. Fair or unfair, if the Cavs struggle on defense, Love will likely shoulder a large part of the blame.

  • Monty Williams praises Anthony Davis' play
Pelicans head coach and Team USA assistant coach Monty Williams spoke glowingly of Anthony Davis' play this summer.

Advice: While he'll get to see Davis up close and personal for the entire 2014-15 season, Williams has gotten a sneak peek at Davis' play this summer as an assistant coach for Team USA. "You seldom say there's a better player on the floor," Williams said. "That's got to help him from a confidence standpoint." Davis has solidified himself as a Top 5 fantasy pick heading into 2014-15 drafts and it's getting to the point where you can draft him No. 2 overall without being mocked by fellow owners.

  • DeMarcus Cousins had no doubts on USA spot
DeMarcus Cousins said he had no doubts on making Team USA's World Cup of Basketball roster.

Advice: Cousins was thought to be on the bubble entering final roster cuts, but the 22-year-old confidently told reporters, "Y'all will see," on the eve of cuts. Turns out Cousins was right as Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski recently told reporters that Cousins had cemented himself as the backup center to Anthony Davis. Cousins seems to have turned over a new leaf this offseason, which can only mean great things for fantasy owners who have him pegged as a late-first round option heading into drafts.
  • Matt Bonner wants to play until he's 40
Matt Bonner said he would like to keep playing until he is 40 years old.

Advice: The 34-year-old re-signed with the Spurs for one season, but has a much longer-term view about his NBA career. "I plan to play as long as possible," Bonner said. "Up to 40 years old, that would be great! I will take year by year and see if the team needs me and if I'm still healthy enough to play." Despite his desire to keep playing for another six years, Bonner only averaged 3.2 points per game in 2013-14 and shouldn't be rostered in even the deepest of fantasy leagues.

  • Dante Exum will come off bench at World Cup
Dante Exum will come off the bench for Australia at the World Cup of Basketball.

Advice: Team Australia begins group play at the World Cup on Sunday against Team Slovenia and head coach Andrej Lemanis is expected to utilize Exum off the bench. "Having Dante come off the bench and make an impact is something which is good for us," Lemanis said. Exum may see a similar role with the Utah Jazz as he acclimates to playing in the NBA, so fantasy owners would be wise to wait until the end of their drafts to take a flier on the Australian.

  • Victor Oldadipo still adjusting to NBA life
Victor Oladipo said he is still adjusting to traveling life in the NBA.

Advice: "It's tough," Oladipo said. "You get into the hotel at 1 or 2 in the morning. It's 24 hour room service. You can get whatever you want. I mean, anything you want. I don't have to explain that." The 22-year-old is coming off a rookie season during which he averaged 13.8 points, 0.9 three-pointers, 4.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.6 steals and should be on fantasy owners' short lists as a breakout player in 2014-15.

  • HInkie hints Joel Embiid could play in 14-15
Sixers GM Sam Hinkie didn't close the door on Joel Embiid (foot) playing during the 2014-15 season.

Advice: If Emiid does play, it will be in the 2015 part of the 2014-15 season as he's still in a walking boot. "I don't know at this point," Hinkie said. "Right now, he's in Philly and visiting with a variety of our medical professionals and going through tests. We want to know how we can be sure to put him in a position to have a long NBA career." While we could see Embiid in the tail part of the regular season, redraft owners shouldn't bother using a pick on him.

  • Toney Douglas could return to NBA in 2014-15
Toney Douglas has a deal to play in China during the 2014-15 season, but could still return to the NBA this year.

Advice: Douglas took part in a free agent workout with the Lakers on Tuesday and hopes to hook on with the team after the Chinese Basketball Season ends in February. Douglas' deal with the Jiangsu Dragons allows him to sign an NBA contract before Sunday, but his agent said that the workout with the Lakers was more of a preemptive showcase.

  • Michael Beasley works out for Lakers
Unrestricted free agent Michael Beasley underwent a workout with the Los Angeles Lakers for a second time on Tuesday.

Advice: The Lakers hosted free agents Beasley, Greg Stiemsma, Dexter Pittman, and Daniel Orton (among others) as they attempt to fill their final two roster spots. Beasley is still just 25 years old, but has struggled to live up to the promise that made him the No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 draft and shouldn't be on any fantasy radars even if he is able to hook on with the Lakers.

  • Warriors sign G Leandro Barbosa
    Warriors sign G Leandro Barbosa.

Advice: Barbosa's deal with be for one year at the veteran minimum as he joins his fifth NBA team. The 31-year-old averaged 7.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 20 games with the Suns last season, so his fantasy value is virtually non-existent as a role player for the Warriors.

  • Dion Waiters drops 12 pounds, drops carbs
Dion Waiters lost 12 pounds since the end of the season due to reducing his carbohydrate intake.

Advice: He fasted for Ramadan and changed his diet, and more often than not players changing their diets yields positive results. However, it may not have worked out for someone like Roy Hibbert last season. Waiters looks ready for the challenge of competing for a championship, but his shot total will be taking a sizable hit. Owners in standard leagues can probably do better.

  • Dion Waiters studying tape of Dwyane Wade
Dion Waiters has been studying video of Dwyane Wade to learn how he adapted to playing alongside LeBron James.

Advice: "With a guy like [LeBron], he can open up the floor for you and give you a lot of opportunities," Waiters said. "When I get the opportunity to get the ball, I've got to destroy my opponent. The rest of the floor is going to be so wide open that, once I get by him, the rest of it should be easy." Waiters has a good chance to improve upon his career 42.4 percent shooting with LeBron guiding the offense, but it's also likely that his usage rate will take a dive from 26.9 percent last season.

  • Wolves owner criticizes Kevin Love's game
Wolves owner Glen Taylor questioned Kevin Love's durability during a recent interview, and said Love "got away with some stuff not playing defense [with Minnesota]."

Advice: "The only thing I still have a question mark about is his health," Taylor said. "If [the Cavaliers] sign him to a five-year contract like they're thinking about, that's a big contract on a guy who's had some times when he has missed games." Taylor also implied that Love is the third-best player on the Cavs behind LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, and the whole interview feels like sour grapes. "I think emotions are definitely running high right now," Love replied, when told about Taylor's criticism. "For Glen to say that, I think he should be concentrating on the players he just received."

  • Joel Embiid signs contract with Sixers
Sixers sign rookie Joel Embiid to contract on Tuesday.

Advice: Embiid announced his signing on Twitter and the terms are unknown. He'll be sidelined for most, if not all, of the upcoming season, meaning Nerlens Noel and Henry Sims are going to have to play a lot of minutes at center. Embiid is worth a pick in dynasty leagues, but we see little reason to use a draft pick on him in re-draft leagues.
    Tuesday, 4:14 pm
  • Kevin Love 'committed long term' to Cavaliers
Kevin Love was officially introduced by the Cavaliers on Tuesday, and he said he's "committed long term to the end goal, and that's to win championships."

Advice: Love is expected to sign a long-term extension with the Cavs, but he said that hasn't yet been discussed. A core of LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Love makes the Cavaliers an instant championship contender and they've already lured veterans Shawn Marion, Mike Miller and James Jones to Cleveland. Love will start alongside Anderson Varejao in the frontcourt, but the Cavs still hope to add another center behind Varejao -- they've reportedly targeted Kosta Koufos and Timofey Mozgov.

  • Anthony Davis leads Team USA to easy victory
Anthony Davis dominated during Team USA's win over Slovenia on Tuesday, racking up 18 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and four blocks in under 20 minutes.

Advice: Davis has cemented himself as the cornerstone of Team USA's frontcourt, and his length gave the Slovenian team fits all game. The U.S. won by 30 points in their final exhibition before the FIBA World Cup begins in earnest -- they'll open the tournament with games vs. Finland on Saturday and Turkey on Sunday.

  • Kobe Bryant analyzing Pierce for adjustments
Kobe Bryant is analyzing Paul Pierce's game as an example of adjusting as you get older.

Advice: Kobe's goal this season is to become a more efficient player and is using fellow 36-year-old, Pierce, as a case study. Even though Pierce saw his stats dip last season, he was still able to post his best shooting and scoring efficiency numbers since 2010-11. While Bryant's Achilles tear from 2013 makes him a risky fantasy pick, the Black Mamba could end up being a steal if he falls on draft day.
    Tuesday, 10:53 am
  • Cavs still trying to acquire Timofey Mozgov
The Cavaliers are still trying to acquire Timofey Mozgov, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

Advice: As the Cavs continue their search for a center to backup Anderson Varejao, their search is focused on the Nuggets' Mozgov and Kosta Koufos of the Memphis Grizzlies. Windhorst adds that the Cavs have been trying to acquire Mozgov for the last six to eight weeks while the Grizzlies are reluctant to part with Koufos due to Marc Gasol's injury last season. Mozgov wouldn't have much fantasy value in Cleveland, but a trade could open up more minutes for JaVale McGee and J.J. Hickson in Denver.

  • Kobe trash-talked LBJ after 'The Decision'
Kobe Bryant trash-talked LeBron James after "The Decision" via text message.

Advice: Fresh off bringing the Lakers' franchise their second consecutive title in 2010, Bryant was perturbed that the headlines were instead dominated by LeBron's decision to leave Cleveland. So, in Kobe fashion, Bryant sent LeBron a text that went like this: "Go ahead and get another MVP, if you want. And find the city you want to live in. But we're going to win the championship. Don't worry about it." LeBron then went on to make four consecutive Finals appearances, and brought two championship trophies to the Miami organization, but you got to love Bryant's competitiveness.

  • DeMarcus Cousins fully recovered from injury
DeMarcus Cousins stated during a recent interview that he is fully recovered from the minor knee injury that caused him to miss Team USA's exhibition game vs. Brazil.

Advice: The injury was never considered to be serious, and this report should remove any doubt about the big man's health. Cousins also said that he is honored to be representing his country, and making the US squad was a goal he had for this summer. Klay Thompson summed up what DeMarcus does for the US Team best, saying that: "DeMarcus does what he does best, and that's crashing the glass, taking up so much space in the paint and just wearing [opposing] bigs out." DMC had a fantastic season last year, and he'll be a safe late-first round option heading into this year's drafts.
    Monday, 3:27 pm
  • Kevin Love to wear No. 0 in Cleveland
Kevin Love will be wearing No. 0 for the Cavs this season, as No. 42 has been retired by the Cleveland franchise in honor of Nate Thurmond.

Advice: It's not yet known why Love elected to go with No. 0, but purely speculating, in tennis, zero points is referred to as "love."

  • Spurs were Matt Bonner's No. 1 option as a FA
Matt Bonner stated in a recent interview that going into free agency, the Spurs were always his No. 1 option.

Advice: "I had several teams calling me to check about my availability," said Bonner. "And I kept telling everyone I wanted to wait and see what happens with the Spurs because that was my No. 1 option." The Spurs have reassembled the entire cast from their 2013-14 title run (sans Aaron Baynes) and will again look for another championship as Manu Ginobili, and Tim Duncan head into the final year of their contracts.

  • Michael Beasley: Inconsistent, immature, no D
An anonymous source for the Heat gave the Miami Herald three reasons why the franchise is uninterested in bringing back Michael Beasley.

Advice: The source cited that Beasley is inconsistent, he can't be trusted on the defensive end, and there are still concerns about his focus and maturity. These aren't exactly revelations, as his careless, uninspired, trigger-happy play on the court has been well documented, but these types of statements will make it a bit harder for Beasley to find his next contract. If Beasley is able to secure a deal with an NBA franchise, he's destined for a bench role, and is not likely to have any impact on the 2014-15 fantasy season. Move along.

  • Rockets trying to acquire Ramon Sessions?
The Rockets are trying to acquire Ramon Sessions in a sign-and-trade with the Bucks.

Advice: It would be a terrific fit for the Rockets. Sessions is among the league leaders in drives per 48 minutes and the Rockets really need a backup point guard. He would likely come off the bench behind Pat Beverley while Sessions would hurt the chances of guys like Isaiah Canaan, Troy Daniels and Nick Johnson. This move would hurt Beverley's upside.

  • Dame Lillard to be on the cover of NBA Live
Damian Lillard will be on the cover of EA Sports' NBA Live 15.

Advice: He was cut from Team USA and said it would provide "more wood on the fire." Lillard will be in the same role as he was last season, but will have Steve Blake back him up instead of Mo Williams. C.J. McCollum could play next to him more, but it shouldn't impact Lillard negatively.
    Monday, 7:14 am
  • Damian Lillard motivated by roster cut
Being cut from the Team USA roster has motivated Damian Lillard, and he will use the dismissal to fan the flames this upcoming season.

Advice: "More wood on the fire," Lillard told The Oregonian when asked how he felt about not making the final 12-man Team USA roster. "Not my first time being put off and probably not the last." Lillard has had a fantastic career so far, and him not making the final 12-man roster has more to do with the ridiculous depth of point guards playing for the US Team rather than anything he did. Lillard averaged 20.7 points, 2.7 three-pointers, and 5.6 assists during his sophomore campaign, and he has yet to miss a single game during his a career. Obviously, he is an early-round target, and No. 1 point guard heading into this year's drafts.

  • Heat give Beasley's number to Shawne Williams
With Michael Beasley's No. 8 already assigned to newcomer Shawne Williams, it appears that Beasley's days as a member of the Miami Heat are numbered... again.

Advice: Beasley, currently an unrestricted free agent is still in search of a contract, but feels he has matured since being selected No. 2 overall in the 2008 draft. "I've grown," Beasley said. "Just like you can look back and say I did a lot of things I'm not proud of. Take it in stride, grow up and move on with life. So, I've grown. I'm more mature about situations." Beasley had a workout for the Lakers in late July, but other than that, things have been quiet. Beasley is highly unlikely to have an impact on the 2014-15 fantasy season.

  • Cavs, Wolves and 76ers agree on Love deal
The Cavs, Wolves and Sixers have completed the Kevin Love trade.

Advice: We all know the details and the only difference is that the Wolves will get a $6.3 million trade exception, not the $4 million reported yesterday. In case you weren't around the past month, the Cavs get Kevin Love; the Wolves get Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, Thaddeus Young and that aforementioned trade exception; and the Sixers get Luc Mbah a Moute, Alexey Shved and a 2015 first-round pick.

  • Kobe Bryant admits to the aging process
Kobe Bryant said his body can't do the things it used to be able to do in an interview with Sports Illustrated this week.

Advice: He said he will have to learn what his body can do and he'll also have to be sharper on the court. Also in the interview, Dr. Alan Beyer had some comments on Bryant's recovery. "I think we're going to see a better Kobe Bryant than we've seen in the last couple of years because he's had time to rest and rehabilitate," said Beyer. Kobe actually had a career high in effective field goal percentage before his Achilles tear in 2013, so it would be a major feat for him to play that well. If he slips in your draft, don't be afraid to take a chance.

  • Damian Lillard doesn't make Team USA
Damian Lillard did not make Team USA for the FIBA World Cup following Friday's exhibition vs. Puerto Rico.

Advice: He didn't have a great month shooting the ball and couldn't edge out Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry or Kyrie Irving. Lillard was third in the NBA in 3-pointers last season, but he still need some work on his perimeter defense and scoring around the rim. However, he's still a No. 1 point guard in fantasy leagues, especially given his remarkable durability so far.

  • Anthony Davis headlines Team USA final roster
Anthony Davis, Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry and James Harden headlined the release of the 2014 Team USA Basketball roster on Friday.

Advice: Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, Kenneth Faried, and DeMarcus Cousins all made the squad, though Cousins' status appeared to be in doubt for much of the time. Rudy Gay and Andre Drummond also made the team, as did the ever-so-controversial Mason Plumlee. Damian Lillard, Chandler Parsons, Kyle Korver and Gordon Hayward were among the final cuts. Team USA will be the favorites in Spain, but this is undeniably one of the weaker teams we've seen in a while.
    Friday, 11:39 pm
  • Official Team USA roster expected Saturday
The official 12-man Team USA roster is expected to be announced on Saturday.

Advice: There is a twist to this story as USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike Krzyzewski are reportedly still debating whether they will bring 12, 13, or 14 of their current 16 players to Spain. Bringing the additional players would give the pair an extra week to evaluate their guys, as the final 12-man roster does not need to be submitted until August 29. Stay tuned.
    Friday, 3:54 pm
  • Damian Lillard would love to make Team USA
Damian Lillard would be thrilled if he made the final 12-man, Team USA roster.

Advice: "This already has been a great experience and a great opportunity for me to get better by being a part of something like this," said Lillard. "But to get on that plane would be a real accomplishment. I've always been a fan of USA Basketball and to be part of the team would mean a lot to me." Lillard is on the bubble right now, but if Team USA anticipates rest days for Rose, that could help Lillard's cause. Stay tuned.
    Friday, 2:57 pm
  • Kevin Love deal officially agreed upon
The Kevin Love trade has officially been agreed upon, and the teams are now just awaiting approval from the league.

Advice: The trade is a three-team deal in which Minnesota will send Luc Mbah a Moute, Alexey Shved (both expiring contracts) and a 2015 first-round pick (via the Miami Heat) to Philadelphia, in exchange for Thaddeus Young and a trade exception worth $4 million. And Cleveland will send two number one overall picks in Anthony Bennett and Andrew Wiggins to Minnesota in exchange for Kevin Love. Wiggins figures to be a primary option on the offensive end in Minnesota, and he'll be a mid-round target heading into this year's draft. Bennett showed promise during Summer League, but the fact he'll be playing behind Young makes him more of a late-round flier in standard leagues. Love will still be an elite talent in Cleveland, but it's unlikely he will be able to sustain his 26.1 points per game while playing alongside Kyrie Irving and LeBron James.
    Friday, 12:34 pm
  • Coach K: Davis to score more with Team USA
Coach Mike Krzyzewski said Anthony Davis will have more opportunities to score with Team USA.

Advice: With the team missing Paul George (leg) and Kevin Durant, Davis may be the team's best weapon, and may be the most important guy on the team with its lack of frontcourt depth. He's a stud already as he heads into his third season and you can make a case for him as the No. 2 player in dynasty fantasy formats.

  • Leandro Barbosa on Miami's watch-list
Free agent Leandro Barbosa, who is playing for Brazil in the FIBA World Cup, is "one of several veterans the Heat are considering."

Advice: No deal is imminent and teams are probably content to watch Barbosa throughout the World Cup before committing any guaranteed salary to the 31-year-old guard, especially since he's coming off another injury-plagued season.

DeMarcus Cousins (knee) practiced fully on Tuesday, but he said he's "50-50" to play vs. the Dominican Republic on Wednesday.

  • Toney Douglas headed to China
Toney Douglas has signed a deal to play in China next season.

Victor Oladipo is working out in Indiana with Dwyane Wade, Tyler Zeller, Mario Chalmers, Norris Cole, Udonis Haslem and Josh McRoberts.

Advice: Oladipo, Zeller and Wade all had the same college coach, Indiana head coach Tom Crean, and Wade has been very close to coach Crean since his Marquette days. Oladipo was compared to Wade coming out of the draft and figures to play much more shooting guard this season. He could have a breakout season and is worth a look any time after Round 3 in standard fantasy drafts.

  • Dante Exum doesn't play well
Dante Exum didn't play well against France on Sunday in an exhibition game, scoring two points with two assists in 15 minutes.

Advice: He's not going to become a superstar overnight and Exum probably won't be much of a factor this season. He projects to be in the rotation for the Jazz, but fantasy owners in redraft leagues can probably look elsewhere.
