  • MCW makes his Bulls debut
Michael Carter-Williams scored four points in 21 minutes against the Hawks on Thursday, adding one rebound, three assists and one block.

Advice: He did make just 1-of-5 from the field. Carter-Williams is going to back up Rajon Rondo and should have plenty of shooters around him in the second unit. MCW is still not worth drafting in most leagues. Yesterday, 9:01 pm
  • Willie Reed puts cap on impressive preseason
Willie Reed scored 12 points with five rebounds, one steal and four blocks in 23 minutes on Thursday.

Advice: You can pencil him into the 15-man roster and Reed may even have a chance to get in the rotation. Coach Erik Spoelsta is certainly not afraid to go with a lineup without a true center, but Hassan Whiteside and Udonis Haslem will likely be the only other big men on the team. Reed is worth watching in deep leagues. Yesterday, 6:37 pm
  • Rodney McGruder locking up spot?
Rodney McGruder was terrific off the bench on Thursday, scoring a game-high 19 points with seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and four 3-pointers in 36 minutes.

Advice: He is fighting for the 15th roster spot and he probably earned it with this game. McGruder was a D-League scoring dynamo and can play multiple positions for coach Erik Spoelstra. Even if he makes the team, he likely won't be in the rotation. Yesterday, 6:33 pm
  • Sasha starting against the Nets
Sasha Vujacic, Courtney Lee, Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis and Joakim Noah started on Thursday.

Advice: Vujacic is more of a placeholder to keep Brandon Jennings as a leader of the bench unit. This is also a good indicator the Knicks will have Derrick Rose available to start the season. Yesterday, 4:58 pm
  • Derrick Rose won't play Thursday vs. Brooklyn
Derrick Rose will not suit up for Thursday's game against the Nets.

Advice: Rose never had a realistic shot of suiting up for Thursday's game as Jeff Hornacek has said that he wants Rose to go through some practices before he takes the court. He'll likely be the Knicks starting point guard to open the year, but it's tough to justify spending anything more than a late-round selection on the former-MVP. Yesterday, 3:43 pm
  • Aaron Gordon (ankles) will start on Thursday
Aaron Gordon (sore ankles) will be in the starting lineup for Thursday's preseason finale against the Pelicans.

Advice: Elfrid Payton, Evan Fournier, Serge Ibaka and Nikola Vucevic will be joining Gordon in the starting five for tonight's meaningless game, and it's looking like that'll be the starting lineup that the Magic go with on opening night. Gordon hasn't had the best preseason thus far, but he's going to get a ton of opportunity under Frank Vogel and remains a high-upside, mid-round target. Yesterday, 2:29 pm
  • Payton, Fournier, Gordon, Ibaka, Vuc starting
Elfrid Payton, Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon, Serge Ibaka and Nikola Vucevic will start Thursday vs. the Pelicans.

Advice: It looks like this will be the starting lineup when the Magic begin their season, which isn't great news for Bismack Biyombo. Yesterday, 2:28 pm
  • Pablo Prigioni (shoulder) questionable Friday
Pablo Prigioni (left shoulder) is questionable to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Spurs.

Advice: If there's any doubt about the health of Prigioni's shoulder, you can bet that he won't be taking the court Friday night. Prigioni will turn 40 years old this season, and is not worth a draft pick in any setting. Yesterday, 2:18 pm
  • Hawks waive Jarrett Jack (knee) on Thursday
The Hawks have waived Jarrett Jack.

Advice: Jack signed a guaranteed deal with the Hawks for the veteran's minimum as an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so his salary will go against the Hawks cap this season. He's still rehabbing from knee surgery, and won't be ready for opening night, but Jack should be able to latch on with another team for the minimum. With Jack gone, it'll be Malcolm Delaney serving as Dennis Schroder's primary backup, and Will Bynum now has a decent shot of making the team. Yesterday, 2:05 pm
  • Olynyk (shoulder) targeting mid-November
Danny Ainge said that the Celtics are hopeful that Kelly Olynyk (shoulder surgery) will be able to return to the court by mid-November.

Advice: Jaylen Brown and Jonas Jerebko will likely pick up most of Olynyk's minutes, with Jae Crowder earning some extended run at the four-spot. Olynyk is not worth drafting anywhere. Yesterday, 1:40 pm
  • Shabazz Muhammad (hip) practices Thursday
Shabazz Muhammad (right hip soreness) went through a full practice on Thursday.

Advice: Muhammad is going to be re-evaluated again following Friday morning's shootaround, so for now we'll be considering him questionable for tomorrow's preseason finale against the Hornets. It's going to be difficult for Muhammad to make a difference in most fantasy leagues while the Timberwolves are at full strength. Yesterday, 1:00 pm
  • Wiggins, Muhammad practice on Thursday
Andrew Wiggins (illness) and Shabazz Muhammad (hip) went through a full practice on Thursday and will be re-evaluated on Friday.

Advice: We're going to consider both guys questionable for the preseason finale against Charlotte on Friday, but neither guy is dealing with anything that should linger into the regular season. Wiggins should be able to take another step forward under Tom Thibodeau, so he's a decent guy to gamble on during the middle rounds. Yesterday, 12:53 pm
  • Jose Calderon (calf) out Friday vs. Phoenix
Jose Calderon (strained left calf) has been ruled out for Friday's preseason finale against the Suns.

Advice: Calderon is perpetually injured and not worth drafting in any setting. Yesterday, 12:51 pm
  • Timofey Mozgov (tailbone) questionable Friday
Timofey Mozgov (bruised tailbone) did not practice on Thursday and is questionable to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Suns.

Advice: Mozgov still has a full six days to recover before the regular season opener, and he was reportedly feeling better on Thursday, so he should be fine for opening night. However, if his absence extends into the regular season, it'll be Ivaca Zubac and Tarik Black picking up most of his minutes. Yesterday, 12:49 pm
  • Alex Abrines (hip) limited to shooting Thurs
Alex Abrines (hip) was limited to some light shooting during Thursday's practice.

Advice: Abrines' hip injury doesn't sound all that serious, so he should be good to go once the regular season tips. However, he's not going to have a large enough role in the rotation to command fantasy value in any setting. Yesterday, 12:18 pm
  • Warriors waive Elliot Williams
The Warriors have waived Elliot Williams.

Advice: The knee surgery likely cost Williams' any shot of a roster spot in Golden State. Yesterday, 11:59 am
    Not Active
  • Warriors waive Phil Pressey
The Warriors have waived Phil Pressey.

Advice: He failed to impress at camp and will now likely head back to the D-League. Yesterday, 11:58 am
    Not Active
  • Warriors waive G Cameron Jones
The Warriors have waived G Cameron Jones.

Advice: With Shaun Livingston, Patrick McCaw and Ian Clark already on the roster, the Dubs just had no need to for another guard. Yesterday, 11:57 am
    Not Active
  • Mbah a Moute (knee) doesn't practice Thursday
Luc Mbah a Moute (right knee contusion) sat out Thursday's practice.

Advice: Mbah a Moute is simply dealing with a bruised knee, and head coach Doc Rivers expects him to be fully recovered in the next day or so. Mbah a Moute will likely shuffle in and out of the starting five this season based on matchups, but his fantasy value will remain non-existent regardless of how he enters the game. Yesterday, 11:45 am
  • Kelly Olynyk still not close to a return
Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) is still not close to a return, according to Celtics president Danny Ainge.

Advice: Ainge said Olynyk's upcoming evaluation with his doctor isn't urgent as Celtics trainer Eddie Lacerte doesn't think the big man is ready to return. We'll continue to monitor Olynyk's progress, but he won't have any fantasy value in standard leagues to start the season. Yesterday, 10:57 am
  • Jazz waive C Henry Sims
    Jazz waive C Henry Sims.

Advice: Sims was in Utah on a camp deal, but won't survive final roster cuts. He'll likely now head to the D-League and won't have any fantasy value this season. Yesterday, 10:18 am
    Not Active
  • Joel Embiid targeting 18-20 minutes on Friday
Joel Embiid will play 18-20 minutes against the Heat on Friday.

Advice: Embiid did individual work at practice on Friday and will again target 20 minutes on Friday. Embiid will have his minutes restricted to open the season, but he's worth a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues due to his upside. Yesterday, 9:36 am
  • Luke Babbitt won't play vs Hornets on Thurs
Luke Babbitt (groin) won't play against the Hornets on Thursday.

Advice: Babbitt's injury isn't believe to be serious, so he should be ready for the start of the regular season. While Babbitt should see plenty of minutes this season, he doesn't have much fantasy value outside of deeper fantasy leagues. Yesterday, 9:32 am
  • Hassan Whiteside to return to lineup Thursday
Hassan Whiteside (personal) will play against the Hornets on Thursday.

Advice: Whiteside had been away from the team due to the death of his great grandmother, but will return for Thursday's preseason game against Charlotte. After averaging 14.2 points with 11.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks on 60.6 percent shooting from the field last season, Whiteside comes into 2016-17 as a sure-thing first-round fantasy selection. Yesterday, 9:21 am
  • Josh McRoberts out Thursday vs Hornets
Josh McRoberts (left foot) will miss Thursday's game against the Hornets.

Advice: McRoberts has no set timetable for his return and has no fantasy value in standard fantasy leagues at the moment. Yesterday, 7:42 am
  • Derrick Rose unlikely to play against Nets
Derrick Rose is unlikely to play against the Nets on Friday, according to head coach Jeff Hornacek.

Advice: Rose's civil trial has concluded, but Hornacek said he'd need to beg to get into Friday's preseason finale. While it doesn't look like we'll see Rose in the preseason, he'll open the regular season as the Knicks starting point guard and is worth a look in the later rounds of standard fantasy drafts. Yesterday, 7:01 am
  • Jose Calderon (calf) likely to sit out Friday
Jose Calderon (strained left calf) didn't play on Wednesday and doesn't expect to return before the Lakers' season opener.

Advice: The veteran said it's "more practical" for him to sit out Friday's preseason finale, which makes perfect sense. His primary role will be mentoring young guards D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson this season, which removes him from the conversation in 12-team leagues. Wednesday, 10:18 pm
  • Lou Williams back in action, comes off bench
Lou Williams (rest) returned to action on Wednesday with seven points, three assists, one steal and a rare block in 16 minutes off the bench.

Advice: Williams was held out of Saturday's game to get some rest, and he still seems like the favorite to start at SG alongside D'Angelo Russell on opening night. His scoring will be necessary for the neophyte Lakers, in either case, and he's a decent late-round source of scoring, 3-pointers and heavily-weighted FT percentage. Wednesday, 10:15 pm
  • Timofey Mozgov (tailbone) doesn't return
Timofey Mozgov didn't return to Wednesday's game after leaving with a bruised tailbone.

Advice: Mozgov took a nasty fall but he walked off under his own power, albeit with a slight limp, and he'll be reevaluated on Thursday. We're listing him as day-to-day until the Lakers' update his status, but deep-league owners should keep an eye on Ivaca Zubac and Tarik Black in case Mozzy ends up missing significant time. Wednesday, 10:12 pm
  • Shabazz Muhammad out with hip soreness
Shabazz Muhammad (right hip soreness) will not play on Wednesday.

Advice: He did not play on Sunday, but that was reported as a rest day. Muhammad doesn't have a history with hip injuries and this is just reported as soreness, so he should be fine. Wednesday, 3:35 pm
  • Andrew Wiggins, Shabazz Muhammad out vs. MEM
Andrew Wiggins (illness) and Shabazz Muhammad (right hip soreness) will miss Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.

Advice: Coach Tom Thibodeau is going to miss his top two small forward tonight. Brandon Rush has played mostly at shooting guard, but he should have no problem sliding over. We'll also see if Thibs wants to roll with more three-guard lineups. Wiggins should be good to go for the season. Wednesday, 3:32 pm
  • Derrick Rose cleared of all charges in case
Derrick Rose has been cleared of all charges in a civil rape case.

Advice: The two codefendants were also cleared in this case. The case was in California and Rose still will not make it in time for Thursday's game. Coach Jeff Hornacek said he'd like to see Rose practice before he gets out on the court. For now, it looks like he should be ready to start the season. Wednesday, 1:32 pm
  • Pablo Prigioni is still out
Pablo Prigioni (shoulder) will not play on Wednesday and is expected to play on Friday.

Advice: With Patrick Beverley (knee) and Prigioni out, James Harden is going to handle most of the point guard minutes. Tyler Ennis should be in the rotation with around 15-20 minutes tonight. Wednesday, 11:39 am
  • Jarrett Jack (knee) gets up shots at practice
Jarrett Jack (right knee surgery) was able to get some shots up during Wednesday's practice.

Advice: This is the first report we have of Jack going through any sort of basketball activity since the knee surgery, although he's still not able to take contact and remains doubtful for opening night. Jack will more than likely be brought along slowly this season, so there's no reason to burn a draft pick on him in most formats. Wednesday, 11:12 am
  • Michael Carter-Williams will play Thursday
Michael Carter-Williams went through a full practice on Wednesday and will make his Bulls' debut Thursday vs. the Hawks.

Advice: MCW is going to play limited minutes behind Rajon Rondo this season, so there's no reason to draft him in most settings. Wednesday, 11:08 am
  • Derrick Rose won't play until opening night
Derrick Rose will miss the Knicks final two preseason games due to the civil suit taking place in Los Angeles.

Advice: Jeff Hornacek said that he has kept in communication with Rose, and that as long as he can get back to New York for a few practices prior to opening night, he'll be the Knicks' starting point guard when the regular season tips. The jury in Rose's civil suit is expected to reach a verdict by Wednesday, so we'll be watching for details on that. Rose is three knee surgeries and four years removed from his MVP season, and there are higher upside guys you can snag towards the final rounds. Wednesday, 10:10 am
  • Aaron Gordon (ankles) questionable Thursday
Aaron Gordon (sore ankles) is being listed as questionable for Thursday's preseason game against the Pelicans.

Advice: If there's even the slightest concern that he's may be less than 100 percent, you can bet that Gordon won't take the court for Thursday's meaningless game. It is, however, important to note that Gordon is simply dealing with sore ankles so he should be just fine for opening night. Gordon could be in for a breakout year under Frank Vogel, so he's a high-upside guy to gamble on during the middle rounds. Wednesday, 9:57 am
  • Derrick Rose doubtful Wednesday vs. Boston
Derrick Rose is still in Los Angeles for jury deliberations, and is doubtful to play in Wednesday's preseason game against the Celtics.

Advice: While Rose could perhaps catch a flight to New York once the jury reaches their verdict, it seems unlikely that he'll be on the floor Wednesday night. Additionally, Jeff Hornacek said that if Rose makes it to New York by Thursday, he wouldn't want him on the bench Brooklyn and would rather go over things one-on-one with him at the practice facility on Friday. The civil suit against Rose should reach its conclusion Wednesday, although a punitive damage hearing could keep him in L.A. Wednesday, 8:32 am
  • Willie Reed double-doubles in easy win
Center Willie Reed started and hit 8-of-11 shots for 16 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and two blocks in Tuesday's win.

Advice: Reed is getting a good look from the Heat and has a chance to be Hassan Whiteside's backup this season. He's rebounding very well thus far, and looked good offensively tonight. Keep an eye on him if you're in a very deep league. Tuesday, 7:14 pm
  • Elfrid Payton struggles on Tuesday
Elfrid Payton hit just 1-of-8 shots for eight points, nine rebounds and four assists in Tuesday's ugly loss to the Heat.

Advice: The good news is that it looks like his hip problem is behind him, but the bad news, along with his shooting, is that he missed all three of his 3-point attempts and committed two turnovers. Poor shooting and turnovers are things we've come to expect from EP, but at least he got a few assists and is getting healthy. He's a middle of the road fantasy target at point guard. Tuesday, 6:58 pm
  • Jarrett Jack (knee) won't be ready for opener
Head coach Mike Budenholzer confirmed on Tuesday that Jarrett Jack (right knee surgery) will not be ready for Atlanta's regular-season opener against the Wizards.

Advice: Jack hasn't even been able to practice with the team yet, so it's not surprising that his rehab will extend into the regular season. Malcolm Delaney will be serving as Dennis Schroder's primary backup to begin the year, but neither Delaney nor Jack will have any tangible value in standard leagues this season. Tuesday, 3:11 pm
  • Luke Babbitt (groin) out Tuesday vs. Orlando
Luke Babbitt (groin) has been ruled out for Tuesday's exhibition game against the Magic.

Advice: The injury isn't believed to be serious, but there's just no reason for the 27-year-old to rush back for a meaningless preseason game. He'll likely be good to go when the regular season tips, but he's not going to have much fantasy value at all this season. Tuesday, 3:03 pm
  • Jose Calderon (calf) doesn't practice Tuesday
Jose Calderon (calf) did not practice on Tuesday.

Advice: Luke Walton hinted that Calderon would remain on the sidelines for Wednesday's preseason matchup with the Warriors, saying that he's in no rush to get him back on the court. The oft-injured 35-year-old is not worth drafting in any setting. Tuesday, 1:09 pm
  • Alex Abrines (hip) out Tuesday vs. Denver
Alex Abrines (hip flexor) has been ruled out for Tuesday's preseason game against the Nuggets.

Advice: With Abrines on the sidelines Tuesday night, Semaj Christon should be able to pick up some extra minutes, although neither of these guys will have any fantasy value when the regular season begins. Tuesday, 11:56 am
  • Michael Carter-Williams doesn't practice Tues
Michael Carter-Williams did not practice on Tuesday.

Advice: He still needs to go through his physical, but he should be cleared in time for Thursday's preseason game against the Hawks. That being said, the former Rookie of the Year winner is going to struggle to get meaningful minutes this season operating as Rajon Rondo's backup, so he's not a very attractive target in most setting. Tuesday, 11:53 am
  • Aaron Gordon (ankle) out Tuesday vs. Miami
Aaron Gordon (sore ankles) his been ruled out for Tuesday's exhibition game against the Heat.

Advice: Gordon said that he's been dealing with soreness in both his ankles, but didn't seem all that concerned about it, simply saying that there's no reason to push it for a meaningless preseason game. He should be just fine when the regular season tips, and we like him as a high-upside, mid-round target with major breakout potential. With Gordon on the sidelines Tuesday night, Mario Hezonja could be in line for a start. Tuesday, 11:35 am
  • Hassan Whiteside (personal) out Tuesday
Hassan Whiteside (personal) will miss Tuesday's preseason game against the Magic.

Advice: Whiteside is away from the team due to the death of his great grandmother, but he's expected to re-join the club in Charlotte for Thursday's exhibition game against the Hornets. Our thoughts go out to Whiteside and his family. Tuesday, 11:27 am
  • Derrick Rose will start if he can practice
Derrick Rose will be the Knicks starting point guard on opening night if he's able to practice before then.

Advice: Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek said he will start Rose if the point guard is able to attend all practices after the preseason. Rose is still dealing with his civil trial in Los Angeles, so it's unclear if he'll be able to live up to Hornacek's expectations. Brandon Jennings will start and see extra minutes if Rose is unable to begin the season as the Knicks starter. Tuesday, 10:48 am
  • Joel Embiid feels 200 percent healthy
Joel Embiid said he feels 200 percent healthy, but it still getting into game shape.

Advice: Embiid's highly-anticipated NBA debut is now in sight and his health finally won't prevent that from happening. "Health-wise, I'm 200 percent," Embiid said. "Game shape-wise, I'm not 100 percent." The 22-year-old will have his minutes limited to begin the season, but he's still worth a late-round flier in standard fantasy drafts due to his upside. Tuesday, 10:29 am
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) out Tuesday
Josh McRoberts (stress reaction in left foot) will not play vs. the Magic on Tuesday.

Advice: The oft-injured forward has no set timetable for a return and has no fantasy value. Monday, 3:14 pm
  • Luke Babbitt (groin) questionable Tuesday
Luke Babbitt (groin) is questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Magic.

Advice: He went through most of the non-contact practice on Monday and made it clear that the injury isn't serious. The Heat probably don't want to risk it with the regular season a little more than a week away, so he's probably a little closer to doubtful. He's on the radar in deeper leagues due to the Heat's lack of quality depth at both forward spots. Monday, 3:12 pm
  • Jose Calderon (calf) sits out of practice
Jose Calderon (calf) did not practice on Monday and will not play on Wednesday.

Advice: The team said it is a precaution. Calderon did not play over the weekend, but he was in uniform. He is not a lock for the rotation and is battling for the backup job with Marcelo Huertas. Monday, 1:55 pm
  • Luke Babbitt downplays groin issue
Luke Babbitt (groin) went through most of the non-contact practice on Monday.

Advice: He said his groin injury isn't serious and hopes to play next week. Coach Erik Spoelsta is using Babbitt at both forward spots, which should be a comfortable role for him after last year with the Pelicans -- he played mostly PF there. Monday, 12:24 pm
  • Derrick Rose not practicing enough
Coach Jeff Hornacek said he is unsure if he'll play Derrick Rose without practicing in two weeks.

Advice: Hornacek is talking about games this week, so Rose is still likely for the opener. Due to his civil trial in Los Angeles, the team could send an assistant out to help get him ready to go. If he continues to miss time, there will be more minutes for Brandon Jennings. Rose isn't a strong fantasy target. Monday, 11:35 am
  • Alex Abrines (hip flexor)
Alex Abrines (hip flexor) did not practice on Monday.

Advice: He suffered the injury on Sunday, but it doesn't sound serious. Abrines has shown some solid defense to go with his shooting touch, so he could get in the rotation at times. Monday, 11:04 am
  • Bulls officially acquire MCW for Tony Snell
The Bulls have officially acquired Michael Carter-Williams in exchange for Tony Snell.

Advice: MCW is a questionable fit on a roster that lacks perimeter shooting, but he is arguably an upgrade over Jerian Grant. Rajon Rondo is locked in as the starter, so the move to Chicago doesn't really improve MCW's fantasy outlook. Unless you're in a points league, let someone else take a flier on him. Monday, 7:55 am
  • Alex Abrines exits Sunday w/ bruised hip
Thunder SG Alex Abrines didn't return to Sunday's game after bruising his right hip.

Advice: Abrines has impressed coach Billy Donovan this preseason, but he has an uphill battle to earn a spot in the rotation. Consider him day-to-day. Sunday, 6:40 pm
  • Elfrid Payton warms up, gets 14/5/5 vs. Hawks
Elfrid Payton chipped in 14 points, five rebounds and five assists during Sunday's loss to the Hawks, going 6-of-11 from the field with two 3-pointers, one block and five turnovers.

Advice: Payton missed time with a hip flexor injury and had struggled since returning, committing nine turnovers with just two assists in his first two preseason games. The Magic will give him every opportunity to thrive this season, but prospective owners should brace themselves for damaging percentages and high turnovers. Sunday, 5:53 pm
  • Shabazz Muhammad (rest) out Sunday vs. OKC
Shabazz Muhammad (rest) will not suit up for Sunday's exhibition game against the Thunder.

Advice: Muhammad isn't dealing with any sort of injury, but this is a preseason back-to-back set, so Thibodeau is also resting his entire starting five. Nemanja Bjelica could flirt with close to 40 minutes tonight. Sunday, 3:59 pm
  • MCW, Snell trade to be completed Monday
The trade involving Michael Carter-Williams and Tony Snell is expected to be finalized on Monday.

Advice: The deal has been agreed to in principle and the two teams just need to call the league office on Monday. MCW's value around the league has never been lower and the move to Chicago won't necessarily help his fantasy value -- Rajon Rondo is locked in as the starter. As for Snell, he could be looking at solid minutes on the wings in Milwaukee with Khris Middleton (groin) out for most of the season, but most fantasy owners should use a wait-and-see approach. Sunday, 8:16 am
  • Michael Carter-Williams likely headed to CHI?
The Bucks and Bulls are in "deep talks" on a Michael Carter-Williams for Tony Snell trade, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Advice: It sounds like the deal is going to happen and it could be finalized as soon as Monday. The Bulls would be getting a backup point guard behind Rajon Rondo to help get the ball to the shooters in their second unit. A new, up-tempo home for Carter-Williams is a positive, but it's still not enough to draft him in most leagues. Saturday, 8:35 pm
  • Willie Reed out for Friday
Willie Reed grabbed 13 rebounds against the Wolves on Saturday with seven points and one block in 26 minutes.

Advice: The Heat rested most of their rotation tonight to allow Reed to clean the glass. The Heat need another center behind Hassan Whiteside, so maybe Reed can make the rotation. Saturday, 8:23 pm
  • Andrew Wiggins scores 23 points vs. Heat
Andrew Wiggins scored a preseason-high 23 points against the Heat on Saturday, adding four rebounds, one assist, one block and one turnover in 31 minutes.

Advice: After he struggled to hit jumpers earlier this preseason, Wiggins went back to the well with his attacking style. Although, he did have four makes outside of the paint in this game. Wiggins does only have one 3-pointer in his four preseason games, so he might not be able to clear 1.0 per game this season. He's still a decent guy to take in the middle of drafts as long as you're not reaching up too high to get him. Saturday, 8:20 pm
  • Arduous Process: Embiid goes to work vs. DET
Joel Embiid was very busy in his 20 minutes against the Pistons on Saturday, making 5-of-8 from the field and 5-of-7 from the line for 15 points with five rebounds and seven turnovers.

Advice: That's a ton of usage for a guy who already had a 37.1 usage rate in his previous five preseason games, and he put on some slick post moves against Andre Drummond and Boban Marjanovic. Embiid went over his previous limit of 18 minutes per game and the 76ers are now open to dropping his back-to-back restriction at some point. As a quick side note, he was grabbing his surgically-repaired right foot, but he was fine. His upside is beginning to outweigh his risk as a pick in the late rounds of a standard draft. In other words, it might be time to Trust The Process. Saturday, 6:34 pm
  • Aaron Gordon loving his new role
Aaron Gordon said he loves "the idea of being more of a playmaker and taking on a bigger scoring role."

Advice: "That's something that I'm going to have to do for us to be successful and I'm ready for that," Gordon said. Coach Frank Vogel has said he's "going to ask him to do it all" this season, as well. While it hasn't clicked for him yet with just two assists in his 47 preseason minutes, the Magic will try to give him the rock. His upside is huge in the later middle rounds. Saturday, 4:56 pm
  • Beno, Dion, Winslow, D-Will & Reed starting
Beno Udrih, Dion Waiters, Justise Winslow, Derrick Williams and Willie Reed will start on Saturday.

Advice: It's good to hear Reed is back after he hurt his back getting off the bus on Friday. The Heat are resting a bunch of players, so don't read to much into this one. Saturday, 4:16 pm
  • Pablo Prigioni (shoulder) will not play Sat.
Pablo Prigioni (left shoulder sprain) will not play on Saturday vs. the Grizzlies.

Advice: He was doubtful coming in, so this isn't a surprise. Tyler Ennis could see some extended minutes with Patrick Beverley (knee) sidelined, as well. Saturday, 3:28 pm
  • Willie Reed (back) may sit out on Saturday
Willie Reed (back) may sit out Saturday's preseason contest vs. the Timberwolves.

Advice: The Heat are taking no chances. Hassan Whiteside (rest), Udonis Haslem (rest) and Josh McRoberts (foot) are all also out of this one, so Miami may have to get really creative with its lineups. Saturday, 3:09 pm
  • Luke Babbitt (right groin) out on Saturday
Luke Babbitt (right groin) will not play on Saturday vs. Minnesota.

Advice: Babbitt's groin has kept him out for the last handful of days, and right now it's unclear when he may be able to return. In the interim, expect Derrick Williams and James Johnson to get the bulk of the minutes at power forward with Josh McRoberts (foot) also sidelined. Saturday, 3:08 pm
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) remains out on Saturday
Josh McRoberts (stress reaction in left foot) remains sidelined for Saturday's preseason contest vs. the Timberwolves.

Advice: Remember when McBob was once seen as the crucial cog that would keep LeBron in Miami? Good times. Saturday, 3:04 pm
  • Whiteside, Dragic, Haslem all out on Saturday
Hassan Whiteside, Goran Dragic and Udonis Haslem will all be rested on Saturday vs. Minnesota.

Advice: No surprises here as the Heat prepare themselves for the regular season. Given Whiteside is averaging 17.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.8 blocks on 69.8 percent shooting through four preseason contests in just 23.5 minutes per game, we think it's safe to say he's ready for the real thing to begin. Whiteside is a no-doubt first-round fantasy selection in all fantasy formats. For what it's worth, Whiteside was spotted icing his hand before Saturday's contest but insisted it's a non-issue. We aren't doubting him. Saturday, 2:56 pm
  • Sixers previewing opening night lineup?
The Sixers will start Sergio Rodriguez, Gerald Henderson, Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid on Saturday vs. Detroit.

Advice: This could very well be the opening night lineup for Philadelphia, so keep that in mind when watching this one. Embiid will have his minutes limit increased to 18-20 for this one, and he should be excited to go head-to-head vs. Andre Drummond. Interestingly, Brown also said that the Sixers could begin to consider the possibility of playing Embiid on back-to-back nights, though there is nothing close to definitive on that front just yet. Get your popcorn ready. Saturday, 2:23 pm
  • Calderon, Huertas battling for backup PG spot
Jose Calderon is battling Marcelo Huertas for the backup point guard position behind D'Angelo Russell.

Advice: "I’m sure throughout the season we’ll lean on different ones at different times depending on what we need," Luke Walton said. "But I feel completely confident with either one of them on the floor running the team." For what it's worth, Walton called Calderon a "phenomenal shooter and one of the best shooters on our team," but also added that "he's a little older," an indication that he'll be careful with how much playing time the veteran receives. Regardless of the decision, neither backup PG will have fantasy value with D-Lo running the show. Saturday, 2:16 pm
  • Knicks could send assistant coach out to Rose
The Knicks could send an assistant coach out to Los Angeles in order to train with Derrick Rose.

Advice: Rose, who has now missed 10 days and counting as he moves forward in his civil trial, has not had the opportunity to work with his teammates as the preseason has progressed. "Our hope was that he would be done on Monday or Tuesday and maybe be back. It is what it is," Hornacek said. "He’s got to deal with that." Hornacek added that the Knicks aren't sure when Rose will return, but the team could send an assistant if he's going to miss another week of action. The reality is that the Knicks were under a gross misconception with their idea that the trial would be concluded quickly, and the organization continues to look poor in how they've handled this process. Saturday, 1:46 pm
  • Jarrett Jack (knee) still not practicing yet
Jarrett Jack (right knee surgery) is still not practicing with the Hawks.

Advice: Although the point guard said that his rehab is "progressing," we're considering him doubtful for opening night given he hasn't participated in a single practice to date and stated that the team isn't rushing his return. Assuming Jack misses time in the regular season, rookie Malcolm Delaney—who has turned heads since arriving from Europe—will serve as Dennis Schroder's backup. For what it's worth, Jack is hopeful to begin some shooting exercises and non-contact practice work next week. Saturday, 1:05 pm
  • Derrick Rose could be back on Tuesday
Derrick Rose could be back with the Knicks in time for Wednesday's game at Boston.

Advice: The judge presiding over Rose's civil trial wants to wrap things up Tuesday. The Knicks' final preseason game is on Thursday vs. the Nets, so this timeline would give Rose two games to get his legs under him again. He's reportedly been working out for three hours a day and has been studying film of his new team. We'll have an update after the weekend. Saturday, 6:48 am
  • Aaron Gordon scores 15 points vs. Indy
Aaron Gordon scored 15 points with six rebounds, one assist, two steals and one 3-pointer in 27 minutes on Friday.

Advice: It's been a quiet preseason for Gordon, who is expected to be more of a focal point at small forward. In his two preseason games, he averaged 10.5 points, 8.0 boards, 1.0 assists, 1.5 steals, 0.5 blocks and 0.5 treys. The upside is huge for a guy who can potentially fill up the defensive stats, so give him a look in the later middle rounds. Friday, 7:04 pm
  • Willie Reed out for Friday
Willie Reed (back) will not play on Friday.

Advice: In a weird twist, he tweaked his back getting out of his seat on the team bus. The Heat don't have much behind Hassan Whiteside, so Reed has a chance to make the team. Friday, 4:07 pm
  • Lou Williams (rest) will not play Saturday
Lou Williams (rest) will not play on Saturday.

Advice: It's a scheduled day off for Williams. While he has been more of a sixth man in his career, he might be starting at shooting guard with Jordan Clarkson behind him. With Williams out, Clarkson or Nick "Uncle P" Young are the likely starters. Friday, 2:32 pm
  • Jose Calderon has strained left calf
Jose Calderon has a slight strain on his left calf and will not play on Saturday night.

Advice: Another year, another Calderon leg injury. Calderon had a calf injury last March, but that was to his right leg -- he also had calf issues in 2014, 2013, 2011 and 2010. The Lakers obviously won't be rushing him back and there's no need for him with D'Angelo Russell playing extremely well. Friday, 1:36 pm
  • Kelly Olynyk's eval gets pushed back
Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) will not be re-evaluated this week.

Advice: His doctor was out of town this week, so it's not injury related. Plus, the timetable on Olynyk hasn't changed either. For now, he's doubtful for the start of the regular season. Friday, 1:26 pm
  • Joel Embiid to play 18 minutes on Saturday
Joel Embiid has been cleared to play around 18 minutes on Saturday.

Advice: His workload has gradually increased from 12 to 18 minutes in a matter of two weeks, so he's on track to be ready for 20-24 minutes on opening night. He had 11 points, 12 rebounds, one steal and one block in just 14 minutes on Thursday, looking like a franchise center in the process. Friday, 10:42 am
  • Pablo Prigioni (shoulder) doubtful Saturday
Pablo Prigioni (shoulder) is doubtful for Saturday's game vs. Memphis.

Advice: It's a left shoulder sprain, so he's not going to play in a meaningless game. Regardless, Prigioni will not have any fantasy value as the third-string PG in Houston. Friday, 9:57 am
  • Luke Babbitt (right groin) ruled out Friday
Luke Babbitt (right groin) will not play on Friday vs. the Spurs.

Advice: Heat coach Erik Spoelstra hasn't decided who will start at power forward on opening night, but this injury could give Derrick Williams and James Johnson an edge. Babbitt should be considered day-to-day until we get another update. Friday, 9:34 am
  • Alex Abrines has best NBA game
Alex Abrines scored 19 points with two rebounds, one steal and five 3-pointers in 34 minutes on Thursday.

Advice: He is really impressing coach Billy Donovan with his defense and he's coming around as a more complete scorer. He didn't have any 3-pointers in his previous two games and only had three two-point makes in his three preseason games. Abrines doesn't have much fantasy value. Thursday, 8:52 pm
  • Joel Embiid double-doubles in 14 minutes
Joel Embiid looked like a trustworthy franchise center in 14 minutes against the Wizards on Thursday, scoring 11 points with 12 rebounds, one steal and one block.

Advice: It's been a positive process this month for Embiid with preseason highs in minutes, rebounds and steals. He's also gone to the line 16 times in his 27 minutes, making 14 of them. He's posted at least one block in all five of his preseason games and he's looked awesome on defense with a couple terrific plays to stay in front of John Wall. It's too bad he's going to be limited in minutes this year and will start out missing back-to-back sets, but Embiid has the potential to be a difference maker in reality and in fantasy. If you're the patient type and a gambler, taking a shot on Embiid in the second half of a draft isn't a bad idea. Thursday, 6:48 pm
  • Josh McRoberts (foot) out Friday vs. Spurs
Josh McRoberts (left foot) is listed as "out" for Friday's preseason game against the Spurs.

Advice: McRoberts continues to rehab from the stress reaction in his left foot, and it's unclear if he'll be ready for opening night. You'd have to be in an insanely deep league to even consider drafting McBob. Thursday, 1:33 pm
  • Jarrett Jack won't play against Pistons Thurs
Jarret Jack (right knee surgery) won't play against the Pistons on Thursday.

Advice: Jack is still recovering from knee surgery and it looks like his absence may extend into the season. He won't have much fantasy value playing behind Dennis Schroder anyway and can be left undrafted in standard fantasy leagues. Thursday, 9:15 am
  • Joel Embiid has minutes restriction increased
Joel Embiid will see his minutes restriction increase to 15 against the Wizards on Thursday.

Advice: Embiid's restriction had been at 12 minutes, so it's good news to see him able to up his time on the court. The 76ers are hoping to up his minutes to the 20-24 range by opening night, and his upside potential makes him worth a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues. Thursday, 8:12 am
  • Derrick Rose expected out until next week
Derrick Rose is expected to be out until next week as his trial concludes in Los Angeles.

Advice: Rose's trial won't end until next Monday at the earliest, so he won't play against the Celtics on Saturday. "Whenever it’s over, he’ll be here,’’ Knicks head coach Jeff Hornacek said. "I’m hoping that’s sooner than later. We’ll just catch him up on things. We’re trying to stall a little bit in putting some of the things in, so we don’t go over it again when he’s here. But we’re hoping it’s sooner than later." While Rose will start for the Knicks once he returns, he's not much more than a late-round flier in standard fantasy leagues at this point. Thursday, 8:07 am
  • Shabazz Muhammad sinks 7-of-10 FGs for 18 pts
Shabazz Muhammad caught fire in the fourth quarter on Wednesday, finishing a 105-88 win vs. the Nuggets with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Advice: Muhammad had a few rough shooting nights to start the preseason, but he looked great tonight. The former lottery pick attacked the basket and showed improved proficiency from deep -- he sank his only 3-point attempt tonight, making him 3-of-6 from that range in the preseason. Playing time will be the biggest challenge for Muhammad, but he'll be a popular pickup if injuries thin out the Wolves' rotation. Wednesday, 7:44 pm
  • Michael Carter-Williams plays 25 minutes
Michael Carter-Williams (illness) suited up vs. the Pacers and posted 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes off the bench.

Advice: MCW's outlook got a bit brighter once Khris Middleton went down, but he's still a deeply flawed fantasy prospect thanks to poor percentages, a lack of 3-pointers, and high turnovers. He's little more than a flier pick in 12-team leagues. Wednesday, 7:23 pm
  • Aaron Gordon (ankle) looks good in debut
Aaron Gordon (ankle) played 20 minutes in his preseason debut on Wednesday, posting six points, 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal, one block and three turnovers.

Advice: Gordon started at SF tonight and he's expected to see plenty of minutes there throughout the season, now that Serge Ibaka is locked into the starting PF job. He has mid-round upside but can usually be acquired in the later rounds due to the post-hype discount. Wednesday, 6:41 pm
  • Elfrid Payton (hip) struggles Wednesday
Elfrid Payton (hip) had a forgettable game vs. the Spurs on Wednesday, committing five turnovers with three points (1-of-5 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), one assist and one block.

Advice: Payton played 21 minutes in his first game back from a hip flexor injury. He'll be given every opportunity to thrive this season and coach Frank Vogel has gone out of his way to praise Orlando's young PG. This wasn't the debut fantasy owners were hoping for, but it's nothing to worry about -- he'll get another chance to scrape off the rust vs. Indiana on Friday. Wednesday, 6:40 pm
  • Kelly Olynyk getting evaluation this week
Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) will be re-evaluated in New York City later this week.

Advice: He's missed some preseason action due to his shoulder surgery from May. Olynyk could get minutes next to Horford and also play some center himself, but it's tough to trust any non-Horford big on the Celtics. That's especially true with Jae Crowder expected to play a decent amount of four, too. Wednesday, 12:45 pm
  • Aaron Gordon (ankle) will start on Wednesday
Aaron Gordon (sprained ankle) will be in the starting lineup for his preseason debut Wednesday vs. the Spurs.

Advice: Frank Vogel said that he's planning on giving Gordon, Elfrid Payton (hip) and Serge Ibaka (knee) "a lot" of minutes as they make their preseason debuts on Wednesday, and it'll be exciting to see how Gordon fares operating with a heavier usage rate under Vogel. Gordon was a mid-round guy after the break last year with averages of 12.0 points, 7.3 boards, 2.0 assists, 1.1 steals and just 0.9 turnovers per contest, and it's reasonable to expect across-the-board improvement during Year-3. Wednesday, 8:34 am
  • Payton, Fournier, Gordon, Ibaka, Vuc starting
Elfrid Payton (hip), Evan Fournier, Aaron Gordon (ankle), Serge Ibaka (knee) and Nikola Vucevic will be in the starting lineup for Wednesday's preseason game against the Spurs.

Advice: According to plugged in beat reporter Josh Robbins, this will likely be the starting lineup that head coach Frank Vogel rolls out for opening night, meaning that Bismack Biyombo will likely begin the year coming off the bench. Payton's horrific shooting will weigh down his value, but he should do enough with the assists and steals to warrant a late-round selection on draft day. Wednesday, 8:25 am
  • Pablo Prigioni leaves game w/ shoulder injury
Pablo Prigioni was forced out of Wednesday's preseason game vs. the Pelicans with a strained left shoulder, and he will not return.

Advice: Prigioni took a hard hit from Alexis Ajinca, and that was enough to end the 39-year-old's evening. Prigioni will have a negligible role behind Patrick Beverley this season, so he's not worth drafting in any format. Wednesday, 6:24 am
  • Joel Embiid scores 13 in 13 minutes
Joel Embiid scored 13 points on 3-of-7 shooting on Tuesday vs. the Grizzlies, adding five rebounds and one block in 13 minutes.

Advice: He struggled early against Marc Gasol, but he didn't back down from him either. He was obviously very aggressive in limited minutes and fantasy owners will love to see that he hit 7-of-8 from the line, though he did miss both of his 3-point attempts. The 76ers are hoping to give Embiid 20-24 minutes on opening night, and the monster upside makes him worth the gamble in the later rounds despite the limited workload this season. Tuesday, 7:41 pm
  • Whiteside drops 21 w/ 14 rebounds, 4 blocks
Hassan Whiteside dominated the Nets on Tuesday with 21 points, 14 rebounds, one assist, one steal and four blocks in just 23 minutes.

Advice: He was coming into the game with averages of 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks, so we expected nothing less against a Nets team that was without starting center Brook Lopez (rest). Whiteside took advantage of a matchup with Justin Hamilton and hit 9-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the line. He looks like he's worth every penny of the max deal he signed over the summer and should be a top-10 fantasy option if he can stay healthy and keep hitting his free throws -- he was 75.0 percent from the line after the break last season. Tuesday, 6:57 pm
  • Dragic, Wayne, Winslow, D-Will, HW to start
Goran Dragic, Wayne Ellington, Justise Winslow, Derrick Williams and Hassan Whiteside will start vs. the Nets on Tuesday.

Advice: Josh McRoberts (foot) and Josh Richardson (knee) are both unavailable. Whiteside has been eating in the preseason so far with averages of 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks, so expect the Heat to continue feeding him in the post tonight. It appears that shooting guard and power forward are the only positions up for grabs in Miami this season, so it will be interesting to see what kind of impact Ellington and Williams can make vs. the Nets. To be clear, the Heat are simply trying out different lineup combinations for now. Tuesday, 4:05 pm
  • Gordon, Ibaka, Payton will play Wednesday
Frank Vogel said that he intends to give Aaron Gordon (ankle), Serge Ibaka (knee) and Elfrid Payton (hip) "a lot" of minutes during Wednesday's preseason game against the Spurs.

Advice: The trio have been nursing minor injuries since the start of training camp, but they'll all be making their preseason debuts on Wednesday. Vogel has been hyping up Gordon, saying that he'll be using him in the same way that he utilized Paul George in Indiana, so he's a high-upside, mid-round target. Ibaka is in a contract year and looking to re-establish himself as one of the elite power forwards in the league, so he's a worthwhile early-round target. Payton should have more freedom sans Scott Skiles and Victor Oladipo, but his game translates better to points leagues. Tuesday, 12:01 pm
