  • Raptors waive Will Cherry
    Raptors waive G Will Cherry.

Advice: He finished the preseason just 2-of-9 from the field and 1-of-3 from the line in his last two games. Cherry was great at summer league, but it obviously didn't translate. Rotoworld.com

  • Evan Fournier puts up a nice line
Evan Fournier played well off the bench against the Mavericks on Friday with 12 points, one rebound, two assists, two steals and two 3-pointers.

Advice: He's on the fantasy radar as a deep-league pickup while Victor Oladipo (face) is on the mend. Fournier will handle the ball a lot and should be have some nice short-term value. Rotoworld.com

  • Warriors waive Jason Kapono
    Warriors waive G/F Jason Kapono.

Advice: When you have Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, you don't need more 3-pointer specialists. Kapono may wind up on a 10-day deal at some point. Rotoworld.com

  • Klay Klay: Thompson scores 35 points
Klay Thompson scored 35 points against the Nuggets during a 119-112 win on Friday, making 13-of-26 from the field with three rebounds, two assists, two blocks and four 3-pointers.

Advice: Well, someone is playing like they want a max deal. The 3.5 triples per game over his last six games is not a shock, but he has a surprising 1.8 blocks per game in limited playing time over his last four. He did have a massive preseason last year, so fantasy owners shouldn't put too much stock into the past month. However, he's still a terrific guy to take in the fourth round. Rotoworld.com

  • Sleeper alert: Jeremy Lin drops 19 w/ 7 dimes
Jeremy Lin looked great off the bench against the Kings during a 93-92 win with 19 points, one rebound, seven assists, one steal and two 3-pointers.

Advice: He's going to be a huge factor for the Lakers this season and should get his chance to produce no matter where coach Byron Scott uses him. Fantasy owners should be very aggressive in targeting Lin and he's a nice No. 2 fantasy point guard. Rotoworld.com

  • Gordon Hayward scores 24 pts on 8-of-12 FGs
Gordon Hayward led Utah with 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting, five rebounds, three assists and one steal in a losing effort vs. the Suns on Friday.

Advice: A key for fantasy owners is his shooting percentages -- he made a woeful 41.3 percent from the field while adjusting to a bigger role last season, but has made 54.8 percent of his attempts in Utah's past five exhibitions. Hayward heads into the regular season on strong footing and is the unquestioned motor of the Jazz offense, giving him reliable early-round upside. Rotoworld.com

  • Vince Carter's offense returns in loss to MIA
Vince Carter recovered his shooting stroke in Friday's preseason finale, scoring 13 points on 5-of-8 field goals, including a 3-of-3 mark from downtown.

Advice: Vince also had five rebounds and two assists, though his efficient line was marred by five turnovers in just 22 minutes. He projects as a 25-minute player in a sixth-man role this year, which should be enough to keep him on the radar as a late-round value in roto leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 8:15 pm
  • James Ennis scores 10 points in rare start
With both Luol Deng and Danny Granger sidelined on Friday, James Ennis started for Miami and had 10 points, one 3-pointer, three rebounds, one steal and four turnovers.

Advice: He played 30 minutes and his athleticism and scoring prowess should earn him a solid role as a rookie, but he's destined for a reserve role behind Deng on opening night. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 8:04 pm
  • Danny Green plays well in finale
Danny Green played well in the preseason finale on Friday with 14 points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal and three 3-pointers in 33 minutes.

Advice: He had a nice preseason and should be in a similar role as last season. Green was a mid-round value in 2012-13, but the ups and downs in 2013-14 hurt his ADP. Nobody will care that you take him in the last round, but he'll outperform his ADP. Rotoworld.com

  • Iman Shumpert scoreless in 15 minutes vs. TOR
Iman Shumpert missed all six of his field goal attempts and failed to grab any rebounds in 15 scoreless minutes on Friday.

Advice: He had two assists and two steals but that's small recompense for fantasy owners. Shumpert has the inside track to start at SG but he shot just 37.8 percent last season and is only worth a look if you're in need of 3-pointers and steals. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 7:18 pm
  • Jamal Crawford out Friday w/ sore hamstring
Jamal Crawford was given the night off on Friday due to minor hamstring soreness.

Advice: Doc Rivers said that Crawford could have played if this were a regular season game, but the 34-year-old will watch from the sidelines as L.A. tries to wrap up the preseason with a win vs. the Trail Blazers. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 5:56 pm
  • Iman Shumpert likely to start at SG
Iman Shumpert is expected to start at shooting guard this season.

Advice: It makes sense because the Knicks need all the help they can get on the wing on defense. He's still a major project on offense, so fantasy owners shouldn't get too excited about this news. Rotoworld.com
    Yesterday, 1:19 pm
  • Glen Rice Jr. does some things
Glen Rice Jr. (ankle) did "a few more things" at practice on Friday.

Advice: It does not sound like he'll be ready to start the season, so we'll get a chance to find out if Otto Porter's terrific summer league and preseason translate to regular season ball. Porter is worth a look in standard leagues. Rice can be left on the wire. Rotoworld.com

  • Miami Heat release Tyler Johnson and others
The Heat released Tyler Johnson, Shawn Jones, and Larry Drew on Friday.

Advice: The Miami roster currently stands at 16, and they'll need to make one more cut before Monday's deadline. These guys are likely bound for the D-League, and there are no fantasy implications to this news. Rotoworld.com

  • Celtics claim Jarell Eddie off waivers
The Celtics have claimed Jarell Eddie off waivers from the Hawks.

Advice: Celtics GM Danny Ainge said that they just wanted to "take a look at" Eddie, so their interest seems to be minimal. Even if Jarell somehow makes the Celtics regular-season roster, he's not going to be an impact player for the 2014-15 fantasy basketball season. Rotoworld.com

  • Oladipo out indefinitely with facial fracture
Victor Oladipo will be out indefinitely after suffering a facial fracture during Thursday's practice.

Advice: Oladipo received an accidental elbow to the face during Thursday's practice, and is set to undergo surgery on Saturday. This is a devastating blow for one of our favorite breakout candidates, and this news likely means that Evan Fournier will be the starting two-guard, with Ben Gordon seeing minutes off the bench. We'll wait for more news on this situation, but this bumps Victor out of top-60 consideration in standard leagues. It has been an offseason of injuries for the NBA this year. Rotoworld.com

  • Jeremy Lin locked in for fantasy value
Jeremy Lin is expected to see heavy minutes for the Lakers at point guard.

Advice: With Nash out last year, Kendall Marshall ranked third among all NBA players in assists per game, so Lin is going to have a massive opportunity -- he's also more talented as a scorer. There was never a doubt that Lin was going to get minutes in the 20s and he was already a steal around 100 in drafts, but now owners can look to grab him in the late-middle rounds. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 5:30 pm
  • Mark Jackson thinks Klay Thompson worth max
Former Warriors head coach Mark Jackson said that he thinks Klay Thompson is worth a max contract.

Advice: As the deadline to keep Thompson from becoming a restricted free agent after the 2014-15 season approaches, Jackson made his feelings clear about his former player. "He’s a guy that will make a boatload of money and in my opinion the best two-way shooting guard in the world, and it’s not even close," Jackson said. "He’s got to get [the max contract]." Thompson has had a strong preseason and is a safe early-round target for fantasy owners due to his three-point shooting prowess. Rotoworld.com

  • Jeremy Lin plays well...off bench again
Jeremy Lin came off the bench again on Wednesday and had 13 points, three rebounds, five assists and a block on 5-of-9 shooting in 25 minutes.

Advice: We still don't know if Lin or Ronnie Price will start on opening night, but we're still listing Lin at No. 1 on the depth chart. Even if he comes off the bench, he should get the majority of minutes and is still the guy you'll want to target on draft night. We're hoping he's coming off the bench as a precaution for his tender ankle, but it sounds like Byron Scott is considering using Lin with the reserves. Stay tuned. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:40 pm
  • Danny Green hits 2-of-10 shots in loss
Danny Green hit just 2-of-10 shots and one 3-pointer for five points, two rebounds and one steal on Wednesday.

Advice: Green can get hot at any time and will bury a ton of threes when it happens, but he's been very inconsistent over the last couple seasons, and was generally viewed as a bust last season. He can't play much worse, but he doesn't appear to have the breakout appeal he once had. Target him late and hope he can get his shot to fall more consistently this season. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 8:50 pm
  • Vince Carter struggles on Wednesday
Vince Carter hit just 1-of-6 shots for three points, two rebounds, three assists and two blocks on Wednesday.

Advice: He played 21 minutes, but didn't do much with them. We were bullish on him coming into camp, but he's struggled throughout most of it. He still has time to turn it around and be a valuable sixth man in Memphis, but for now, he probably belongs on the waiver wire when your draft ends. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 8:12 pm
  • Shumpert one of Phil Jackson's 'favorites'
Iman Shumpert is one of Phil Jackson's "favorites" on the Knicks' roster, and Jackson called him "simply our best on-ball defender" against SGs and bigger PGs.

Advice: Jackson criticized Shumpert's "very inconsistent" shooting mechanics, but he's confident that Shump will bounce back offensively after averaging just 6.7 points on 37.8 percent shooting last season. The starting SG job is Shumpert's to lose and his ability to chip in consistent 3-pointers and steals makes him a late-round option in deeper leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 9:48 am
  • Victor Oladipo (MCL) not a lock for opener
Victor Oladipo (sprained MCL) is "hopeful" that he can play in Orlando's season opener, but he remains day-to-day.

Advice: Oladipo returned to practice on Monday and the Magic would like to see him on the court for Friday's finale, but they won't risk playing him at less than full strength. The Magic open their regular season vs. New Orleans on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Rotoworld.com

  • Jeremy Lin has 15 pts w/ five dimes off bench
Jeremy Lin returned from two sprained ankles on Tuesday, notching 15 points (including 8-of-10 FTs), four rebounds, five dimes and two steals off the Lakers' bench.

Advice: Ronnie Price started at PG and coach Byron Scott said he likes how Lin has played with the second unit. Lin was returning from injury and we still expect him to get the nod on opening night. He'll hold solid value even if he does begin the season the focal point of the second unit's offense, and the return of Nick Young could also bump him back into the starting five. If you drafted Lin, or plan to, there's no need to panic. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 9:57 pm
  • James Ennis out of rotation for Heat
James Ennis got a DNP on Tuesday and it appears that he's officially out of the Heat's rotation, for now.

Advice: He got off to a crazy hot start this preseason, but now looks like he'll be planted on the bench early in the season. If you already drafted and can drop him for a guy like Chris Copeland (Pacers), do it. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 8:37 pm
  • Jeremy Lin not starting on Tuesday
Jeremy Lin, who has missed three straight games with a sprained ankle, said he will start on Tuesday, but it's not going to happen.

Advice: Ronnie Price will start in his place, but Lin is expected to return from a three-game absence with a sprained ankle off the bench. The Lakers are running very thin at point guard and if Lin can stay healthy this season, he's going to get a ton of minutes and production. He looks like an enticing sleeper pick once the big names are gone. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 5:01 pm
  • Jeremy Lin (ankles) ready to go vs. Phoenix
Jeremy Lin (sprained ankles) will return to action during Tuesday's exhibition vs. the visiting Suns.

Advice: "Ankles are finally feeling better," Lin wrote. "Excited to get back on the court tonight!" Steve Nash's ongoing sciatica pain has him questionable for the start of the regular season, and the starting PG job should belong to Lin all season regardless of Nash's health. He has enough statistical versatility to return mid-round value, and his late-round ADP makes him a solid value in most fantasy drafts. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 2:54 pm
  • Hawks waive G Jarell Eddie
    Hawks waive G Jarell Eddie.

Advice: Eddie went undrafted out of Virginia Tech and he's a longshot to earn a guaranteed contract with an NBA team this year. With the regular season a week away, the Hawks have trimmed their roster to 15 players. Rotoworld.com
    Tuesday, 11:20 am
  • Vince Carter's minutes staying low
Vince Carter played eight minutes during Monday's 108-103 loss to Dallas, scoring four points with two rebounds, one block and one 3-pointer.

Advice: He only played six minutes on Friday and hasn't been over 13 in any of his four games. Carter played 24.4 minutes per game in his 81 outings last year, so he'll likely be closer to 20. He's not quite worthy of drafting in standard leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 8:42 pm
  • Victor Oladipo back at practice on Monday
Victor Oladipo (knee) returned to practice on Monday.

Advice: There was little doubt that he would miss time in the regular season and now he looks to be ready to go. Oladipo did sit in some portions of practice and he might miss another preseason game, but fantasy owners can draft him as if he's healthy. He's a breakout candidate and the shift to shooting guard should help. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 4:08 pm
    Injured
  • Wiz non-committal on Glen Rice Jr.
The Wizards have been "totally non-committal" on Glen Rice Jr. (ankle) for the season opener.

Advice: He hasn't been moving much at practice and it would appear he's closer to doubtful. If the Wizards feel comfortable with Garrett Temple and Otto Porter at the shooting guard spot, there's no need to rush Rice back into the lineup. If you're looking to make a pickup from the Bradley Beal (wrist) fallout, Porter is probably your guy in deeper leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Monday, 8:56 am
  • Hayward, Favors rested in road loss to Lakers
Gordon Hayward and Derek Favors each played 12 minutes before sitting out Utah's loss in L.A. as a precaution.

Advice: Hayward racked up eight points, three assists and three steals, and Favors was equally impressive, but the Jazz predictably lost their footing once they were pulled by coach Quin Snyder. Both of Utah's cornerstone players should see an uptick in playing time for Tuesday's road game vs. the Thunder. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 9:14 pm
  • Jeremy Lin sits out again w/ sprained ankle
Jeremy Lin (ankle) will sit out Sunday's exhibition, as expected, allowing A.J. Price to start at PG.

Advice: Lin is likely to start at PG even if Steve Nash's nerve damage subsides prior to opening night, which seems very doubtful. He averaged 15.6 points, 1.4 threes, 3.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals on a 36-minute-per-game basis with Houston last year, which should set fantasy owners' expectations for 2014-15. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 4:59 pm
  • Glen Rice Jr. (ankle) making progress
Glen Rice Jr. (ankle) is making progress in his recovery and was seen taking jumpers at practice Sunday.

Advice: We expect him back very soon but he should still be considered questionable for opening night. Rice Jr. has a great chance to carve out a significant role in the Wizard's offense with Bradley Beal out so he may be worth a flier late in standard leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 11:43 am
  • Klay Thompson (rest) out Sunday vs. Houston
Klay Thompson (rest) will not play in Sunday's exhibition game vs. Houston.

Advice: Klay has been lights out this preseason, shooting 53.6 percent from the field, and a ridiculous 58.6 percent from 3-point range through five preseason games. He's a primary piece of Golden State's offense, and they weren't willing to include him in any deal, even if it would have netted them Kevin Love. Thompson is set to have another great year, and could see his assist total rise a bit in the Warriors new ball-movement oriented offense. Target him in the early rounds and don't look back. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 10:46 am
  • Jeremy Lin's end in HOU not how he envisioned
Jeremy Lin's exit from Houston was not how he envisioned it, but he's not bitter towards the franchise that traded him for close to nothing.

Advice: "When I first got [to Houston], I was supposed to be the guy and they were supposed to kind of hand the torch to me," said Lin. "And I ended up getting traded away basically for nothing. Actually, they had to give up a draft pick to convince someone else to take me. Pretty much given away for nothing. Definitely not how I envisioned it." Jeremy Lin is now in a much better situation in LA, and with Steve Nash unable to stay healthy, Lin will see heavy minutes in the Lakers' rotation. He makes for an excellent late-round selection with plenty of upside. Rotoworld.com
    Sunday, 7:28 am
  • Jamal Crawford scores 23 on 12 FGAs
Jamal Crawford was terrific in his 36 minutes of action on Saturday with 23 points, three assists, two steals and four 3-pointers in 36 minutes.

Advice: He's coming off a 25-point game on Friday and is so hot right now. Crawford has been a little streaky, which is not unusual for a shooting guard. Crawford ate like was at a buffet while Chris Paul and J.J. Redick were out last season, but he's probably going to more of a late-round asset due to his lack of multiple-category lines. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 10:38 pm
  • Tyler Johnson goes off against Spurs
Tyler Johnson put on a show in his first preseason game of the season, scoring 17 points with four rebounds, two assists, four steals and one 3-pointer.

Advice: If you started him in your preseason fantasy hoops league, pat yourself on the back. Kidding aside, Johnson has his work cut out for himself to make the team. Rotoworld.com

  • James Ennis plays just three minutes
James Ennis played just three minutes against the Spurs on Saturday.

Advice: He didn't appear to be hurt and maybe he just had most of the night off. Ennis is an interesting name to watch in deeper leagues. We'll pass along any info if coach Erik Spoelstra says anything. Perhaps he just went with a hot Tyler Johnson. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 8:48 pm
  • Evan Fournier puts up a dud vs. Philly
Evan Fournier made 1-of-6 from the field against the 76ers on Saturday for two points, one rebound, one assist and two steals in 27 minutes.

Advice: It wasn't a great game for him after being rested on Wednesday. Fournier is going to come off the bench and spell Victor Oladipo (knee), but he'll have some ball-handling opportunities. Fantasy owners can give him a look late in 16-team drafts. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 7:17 pm
  • Victor Oladipo (knee) has 'vigorous' workout
Victor Oladipo had a "vigorous" workout before Saturday's game against the Sixers, according to team beat writer John Denton.

Advice: He's not going to play in the game, though. There was never much of a concern with his mild MCL sprain considering he played through the injury without knowing it, but this is concrete proof he'll be on the court for game action soon. He's a breakout candidate and is worth a look around pick 50. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 2:59 pm
    Injured
  • Jeremy Lin (ankle) unlikely for Sunday's game
Jeremy Lin (ankle) is unlikely to suit up for Sunday's exhibition against the Jazz.

Advice: He was spotted getting up some jumpers at Saturday's practice which is a good indication that he is making progress from his recently sprained ankle. We expect him to be ready for the season opener and the Lakers are just being cautious at the moment. Lin projects as a solid late-round selection as he should see plenty of minutes in LA's backcourt this season. Rotoworld.com
    Saturday, 1:25 pm
  • Hayward scores 22 points, hits all 12 FTs
Gordon Hayward lit up the box score in Friday's 101-97 preseason loss to the Clippers, scoring 22 points on 4-of-7 shooting (2-of-4 3PTs, 12-of-12 FTs) with six rebounds, four assists and six steals.

Advice: Keep in mind that these games are loose and often generate pinball statistics. Hayward looks the part after his time with Team USA and has early round upside with a nice and safe mid-round floor. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 11:38 pm
  • Ennis impressive in quiet statistical night
James Ennis was quiet statistically but still effective in the Heat's 115-108 exhibition win over the Warriors on Friday, finishing with eight points, three rebounds and two steals in 25 minutes.

Advice: Ennis made his only field goal attempt and all six of his freebies. He otherwise flew around the court and he profiles as a potential difference-maker on the floor if he can continue to pick up the game the way he has been this past year. He'll have a hard time carving out value in standard leagues, but on a team with older players with injury risks -- he could get real interesting real quick should somebody like Dwyane Wade go down. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 11:24 pm
  • Thompson scores 29 points in loss to Heat
Klay Thompson scored 29 points on 10-of-21 shooting (including four threes) with two rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block in Friday's preseason loss to the Heat.

Advice: Thompson is going to hang a bunch of these on the opposition this year. David Lee added 24 points with six rebounds and Stephen Curry had a slow night with seven points on 2-of-10 shooting and an otherwise full stat line. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 11:02 pm
  • Carter (ankle) gets back on the floor
Vince Carter (ankle) got back on the floor on Friday night, but logged just six minutes against Flamengo.

Advice: We'll let you know if we hear anything for owners to be concerned about, but there's no reason for Carter to push himself at this time of year. The Grizzlies predictably rolled tonight, with a bountiful box score that owners should disregard for projection purposes. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 8:57 pm
  • Jeremy Lin (ankle) hopeful to play Sunday
Jeremy Lin (ankle) is hopeful that he'll be able to suit up for Sunday's preseason game vs. the Jazz.

Advice: The Lakers could certainly use him back, as they've been running with Ronnie Price as their starting point guard with both Lin and Steve Nash (back) on the sidelines. While Lin may not enter the season as the team's starting point guard, he still makes for an intriguing late-round selection with some upside, as there's basically no way Nash makes it through a full season. Lin should be able to offer some assists, steals, and 3-pointers to a fantasy squad, while hitting free throws at an efficient rate. Rotoworld.com
    Friday, 12:54 pm
  • Gordon Hayward carves up the Lake Show
Gordon Hayward scored 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting to go with four assists, four steals, two blocks and one 3-pointer on Thursday.

Advice: It sure does help to go against the Lakers, but this was Hayward's best game. He added some muscle to his frame and it should help his field goal percentage. He could put it all together and be a top-20 player this season. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 10:30 pm
  • Klay Thompson scores 18 points in 17 minutes
Klay Thompson continued his magnificent preseason on Thursday with 18 points, four rebounds, five assists, one steal, two blocks and three 3-pointers.

Advice: He's ridiculous right now. Thompson is 13-of-20 from beyond the arc and has an unbelievably efficient 69.8 effective field goal percentage on the preseason. He's looking to cash in during his contract season and will have no problem putting up top-50 value this season. It's just a bonus that he hasn't missed a game due to injury in his career. Rotoworld.com
    Thursday, 9:27 pm
  • Victor Oladipo will not play Fri. vs Pistons
Victor Oladipo (knee) will not play against the Pistons on Friday.

Advice: With the start of the regular season right around the corner, it's beginning to look like we may not see Oladipo play in an exhibition game. While it would be nice to see the second-year player on the court before opening night, there have been no indications that he'll return this preseason. He remains a high-upside target in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts now that Jameer Nelson is out of the picture. Rotoworld.com

  • Glen Rice has right ankle in walking boot
Glen Rice was in a walking boot to protect his sprained right ankle after Wednesday's game and he's expected to miss time with the injury, leaving him questionable for opening night.

Advice: He doesn't sound likely to play on Thursday and we're wondering who will start at shooting guard for the Wizards. It could be Otto Porter, who is really a forward, while journeyman Rasual Butler will likely get some run while Rice is out. Xavier Silas' name has come up as well, and PG Garrett Temple started there on Saturday. The Wizards are suddenly dangerously thin at shooting guard. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 8:18 pm
  • Glen Rice Jr. leaves w/ sprained right ankle
Glen Rice Jr. left Wednesday's game with a sprained right ankle.

Advice: He had 11 points and four rebounds in 11 minutes, and should be considered day-to-day for now. He's got a shot at winning the starting job at shooting guard as long as Bradley Beal is out, but his two-game tryout has not gone well so far. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 6:06 pm
  • Less champagne: Evan Fournier resting
Evan Fournier is getting rest on Wednesday and will not play.

Advice: He's fine and is just getting rest. Coach Jacque Vaughn has been impressed with Fournier and he's going to be a key cog in the second unit. He's worth a look in 16-team leagues. Rotoworld.com
    Wednesday, 4:52 pm
  • James Ennis scores 10 with 5 steals
James Ennis played well again on Tuesday, hitting 3-of-9 shots and two 3-pointers for 10 points, three rebounds and five steals in just 19 minutes.

Advice: He's having a great preseason and will become a must-own player if Luol Deng goes down at some point. And even if Deng stays healthy, Ennis could get 20-25 minutes filling in off the bench as the Heat try to keep Deng healthy for the entire season. Ennis is the true definition of a deep sleeper.
