  • Stephenson battling Gee for 15th roster spot
Lance Stephenson is competing with Alonzo Gee for the final roster spot in New Orleans.

Advice: If the preseason is any indication, Stephenson has the edge right now. The Pelicans need another ball-handler with Jrue Holiday (personal) away from the team and Tyreke Evans out with a knee injury, so that also helps Stephenson's case. "I think he did a good job for us," coach Alvin Gentry said. "He was kind of locked in and tried to do the things we asked him to do." Even if he makes the team, Stephenson won't be an option in standard formats right out of the gate. 47 minutes ago
  • Pat Beverley (knee) re-evaluated in 3 weeks
Patrick Beverley (knee) will be re-evaluated in three weeks following his Tuesday surgery.

Advice: He is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to the procedure. Based on that timetable following the procedure, Beverley will miss between 14-21 games. It'll be James Harden and his preseason-high 10.7 assists per game running the point with Eric Gordon also getting a major bump. Yesterday, 5:43 pm
  • Stephen Curry admits Warriors still adjusting
Stephen Curry admitted that the Warriors are still adjusting to playing with Kevin Durant.

Advice: "We’re continuing to build chemistry and flow of where shots are going to come from and everybody [is learning] the little nuances of our offense," Curry said. "Like when to cut, when to come off the dribble and when to screen for somebody, just based on where you are on the court. Those aren’t set play calls; it’s just organized chaos." Despite Golden State still working out the kinks, we're confident this group will be ready to roll when the regular season begins this week. Yesterday, 3:02 pm
  • Wayne Ellington (quad) uncertain for opener
Wayne Ellington (right quad contusion) is questionable for opening night.

Advice: It's a wait-and-see approach with the veteran shooting guard, who just needs to see how the injury responds before assessing it further. If he's unable to get out there for the opener, Rodney McGruder would likely be in the rotation with Goran Dragic, Tyler Johnson and Dion Waiters. Yesterday, 2:56 pm
  • Report: Rockets cut ties with G/F PJ Hairston
The Rockets have reportedly waived G/F P.J. Hairston.

Advice: Hairston was a long shot to make the team and failed to make any kind of meaningful impression in training camp or during the preseason. Yesterday, 2:50 pm
  • Cavaliers decide to waive G John Holland
    Cavs waive G John Holland.

Advice: Holland never had a chance in Cleveland. Yesterday, 2:30 pm
  • Jerryd Bayless (wrist) hoping to duck surgery
Jerryd Bayless (left wrist) is hoping to avoid surgery.

Advice: Bayless will be reevaluated in two weeks, but surgery is not off the table at this time. While the Sixers and the veteran PG are hopeful that rest and rehab will do the trick, it sounds like the possibility for him to be out for an extended period of time is very real. Philadelphia is likely going to expedite its cause to find a third-string point guard behind Sergio Rodriguez and T.J. McConnell. Yesterday, 2:24 pm
  • Grizzlies waive F JaKarr Sampson on Saturday
    Grizzlies waive F JaKarr Sampson.

Advice: Sampson was just signed on Friday, but it's likely that was done so Memphis could have his D-League rights. Given his athleticism and ability to defend, it's possible Sampson winds up elsewhere before opening night. Yesterday, 2:19 pm

  • Report: Gee vs. Stephenson for final spot
The Pelicans are expected to choose between Alonzo Gee and Lance Stephenson for the final roster spot.

Advice: Given the injuries that New Orleans has in its backcourt, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Pelicans opt for Born Ready's playmaking over keeping Gee. We'll have our answer one way or another no later than Monday afternoon. Yesterday, 2:01 pm
  • Report: Beverley (knee surgery) out 4-6 weeks
Patrick Beverley (left knee surgery) is expected to miss the next four-to-six weeks, a source told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Advice: Beverley is expected to undergo the procedure on Tuesday. This timetable aligns much more with what Mike D'Antoni had previously said regarding his expectation that Beverley would miss about 20 games, so it sounds like the three-week timetable to return that was previously reported was a bit optimistic. In Beverley's absence, Eric Gordon is expected to get the majority of minutes alongside James Harden, but we should see some of Pablo Prigioni and possibly K.J. McDaniels, as well. Yesterday, 1:12 pm
  • Damjan Rudez makes Orlando's final roster
Damjan Rudez has made Orlando's final roster.

Advice: Rudez has a good shot when it's on, but we haven't seen much else from him during his NBA tenure to date. He's not expected to be in Frank Vogel's rotation. Yesterday, 12:43 pm
  • Alec Burks (knee, ankle) still not practicing
Alec Burks (knee and ankle surgeries) is still not practicing with the team.

Advice: Burks is out indefinitely and not much of a fantasy consideration given all of Utah's depth. It's not yet clear when he may be able to return to the court. Yesterday, 12:14 pm
  • Magic waive G Nick Johnson at final cuts
    Magic waive G Nick Johnson.

Advice: You may not have even known he was on the team. Yesterday, 11:57 am

  • Kyrie Irving (calf) resumes regular routine
Kyrie Irving (calf) has returned to a full practice.

Advice: Irving revealed that the original soreness was due to the after-effect of him "needling" his calf (read: acupuncture) prior to game action. The good news is that he's expected to be absolutely fine and is in no danger of missing any regular season time. With Kay Felder in the league's concussion protocol, Irving should be looking at sizable minutes right out of the gate. Yesterday, 11:40 am
  • Report: Grizzlies waiving oft-injured Adams
The Grizzlies will waive G Jordan Adams, sources told Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Advice: Adams has not been able to stay healthy since the Grizzlies made him a first round pick in 2014. After being limited to just two games last season, it looks like Memphis has made the decision to move on. We should have official confirmation of the move soon. Yesterday, 11:25 am
  • Timberwolves decide to waive Toure Murry
    Timberwolves waive G Toure Murry.

Advice: This was an expected move and has no fantasy ramifications. Veteran John Lucas III will stick on Minnesota's roster for the time being. Yesterday, 11:09 am

  • Raptors waiving G Drew Crawford
    Raptors waive G Drew Crawford

Advice: Unlike the other four players cut by the Raptors on Saturday, Crawford is not expected to join the Raptors 905 in the D-League. Yesterday, 9:10 am

  • P.J. Tucker (back) could be ready for opener
P.J. Tucker (back) could be ready in time for the season opener on Wednesday.

Advice: "We build up his minutes slowly," coach Earl Watson said. "He has to work his way in." Tucker will be cleared for Wednesday if he has no issues with his first five-on-five scrimmaging Monday and Tuesday, but his workload will be very limited right out of the gate. T.J. Warren has already been named the starter and could hold onto the job based on his preseason play, so Tucker is only on the radar in deeper leagues. Yesterday, 8:39 am
  • Spoelstra praises the play of Tyler Johnson
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the game is "slowing down" for Tyler Johnson.

Advice: "The game is slowing down for him because he is so quick, so aggressive, gets into gaps — but he’s doing it with more thought now," Spoelstra said. "He’s seeing the defense. He’s seeing what he can attack and let the game come to him while he’s still being himself." Johnson said he likes coming off the bench as a combo guard and wants to be utilized the same way that Manu Ginobili is in San Antonio. It doesn't sound like the Heat will trade Goran Dragic just yet, but Johnson will serve as The Dragon's backup while also spending time at shooting guard. That means he could still see minutes in the mid-20s which puts him on the standard-league radar. Yesterday, 8:13 am
  • Hawks may extend Hardaway Jr.'s contract
The Hawks are looking to extend Tim Hardaway Jr.'s contract prior to the Oct. 31 deadline.

Advice: Hawks GM Wes Wilcox confirmed that the team has held talks with THJ's representatives. The Hawks will also have to pay Paul Millsap and Dennis Schroder next summer, so it will be interesting to see how much they're willing to give to THJ. He's been solid in the preseason with a couple of really nice performances, so he should be in the rotation behind an aging Kyle Korver. Yesterday, 7:28 am
  • Danny Green hopes to beat his timetable
Danny Green (thigh) said that he's hopeful to beat his three-week timetable.

Advice: "I hope to come back sooner than expected," Green said. "You have to stay positive." Coach Gregg Popovich confirmed that he's dealing with the same injury that he picked up at the beginning of camp, so we'd expect the Spurs to hold him out for the full three weeks to be safe. The Spurs started versatile forward Kyle Anderson in Green's place on Friday, but keep in mind that Jonathon Simmons (calf) wasn't available. Yesterday, 6:46 am
  • Steph Curry scores 35 points in 28 minutes
Stephen Curry scored 35 points in 28 minutes against the Blazers on Friday, adding four rebounds, two assists and eight 3-pointers.

Advice: Yeah, we get it. The Warriors are just too good. Curry's preseason scoring rate wasn't hurt too much this preseason, averaging 19.7 points, 4.0 boards, 3.9 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.4 treys in just 24.2 minutes. He's still a decent bet to be fantasy's top player. Friday, 10:40 pm
  • Evan Turner misses all eight FGAs
Evan Turner missed all eight shots from the field and made 1-of-2 from the line for one point on Friday, adding two rebounds, three assists and one steal.

Advice: The Warriors dared him to shoot jumpers and it obviously didn't work for Turner. ET's positional flexibility makes him an ideal bench guy to play three or even four positions for coach Terry Stotts. He's really just a three-category guy, so standard league owners should be looking elsewhere. Friday, 10:35 pm
  • Jared Dudley gets 29 minutes
Jared Dudley scored 11 points with four rebounds, two assists, four steals and two 3-pointers in 29 minutes on Friday.

Advice: His minutes should be in the upper 20s to start the year while the Suns groom their two top-10 picks at power forward. If you want a little boost early in the season, Dudley could definitely be a top-150 player in the first two months of the season. Friday, 10:22 pm
  • Devin Booker scores 19.6 points per game
Devin Booker made 5-of-17 from the field for 12 points with three rebounds, one assist, one steal and two 3-pointers in 32 minutes on Friday.

Advice: The shots will be there for Booker, but he had some major issues from the field after the break last year. Booker had a monster 34-point game to buoy his preseason five-game run to 19.6 points per game and help him get to 45.5 percent from the field. He appears to be penciled in to minutes in the 30-34 range and his assists should jump up to the 3-4 range. The upside is massive for the game's best teenager right now, but he will cost you a ton to leave little equity on top. Friday, 10:15 pm
  • Brandon Knight gets 27 minutes
Brandon Knight played 27 minutes on Friday with 14 points, two rebounds, five assists and one 3-pointer.

Advice: This was a dress rehearsal for the Suns, so the 27 minutes seem like a fair expectation for Knight. Coach Earl Watson looks like he wants to get Leandro Barbosa in the mix and gave him 16 minutes tonight, so that would eliminate a three-guard rotation. While Knight's value should still be solid in the second unit, his upside is capped. That said, he makes sense in the 75-100 window of a standard draft. Friday, 10:05 pm
  • Pat Beverley (knee scope) out 3 weeks
Patrick Beverley (knee) will undergo a minor surgical scope on his left knee early next week.

Advice: He is expected to miss three weeks, which is a slightly better prognosis than what coach Mike D'Antoni said with Beverley possibly missing 20 games. The Rockets are going to lean more on Eric Gordon and James Harden to take on most of their guard minutes while Pablo Prigioni, K.J. McDaniels and Tyler Ennis could fill in the gaps. Friday, 9:34 pm
  • MDA wants Gordon or Harden on court
Coach Mike D'Antoni wants James Harden or Eric Gordon on the floor at all times while Patrick Beverley (knee) is out.

Advice: We haven't seen Gordon play on the ball with great regularity since his Clippers days, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Following the Rockets game, Gordon was actually first in offensive rating this preseason and the Rockets offense has been a monster this month. Gordon has risk, but he has big upside too. Friday, 9:30 pm
  • Tyler Johnson locks up backup PG job
Tyler Johnson scored eight points with two rebounds, one block and two turnovers in 19 minutes on Friday.

Advice: Most signs point to Beno Udrih and Briante Weber not making the team, which means Johnson will take on the backup point guard minutes. He was also groomed as a shooting guard at times, so he could wind up getting minutes in the mid-20s. Johnson played well enough and offers enough upside to be a last-round flier in standard leagues. Friday, 8:26 pm
  • Pat Beverley expected to miss 20 games
Coach Mike D'Antoni said Pat Beverley (knee) is expected to miss about 20 games.

Advice: The timetable is about the same whether he waits it out or has surgery, so we still don't know the treatment plan. Whatever the case, if he misses 20 games, that puts his target date at Dec. 5 against the Celtics -- he could miss fewer than that, though. James Harden is going to get the starting job and play massive minutes. After that, it looks like Tyler Ennis is next in line. Eric Gordon is also locked in for minutes at SG with Harden at the point. Friday, 7:51 pm
  • Wayne Ellington suffers quad contusion
Wayne Ellington suffered a right quad contusion on Friday.

Advice: Coach Erik Spoelstra said the bruise is decent and said he won't do much in the next few days. Ellington started tonight and has been a bit of a place holder for Josh Richardson (knee). He looks like he has a decent chance to make the team, but he's not a lock for minutes once Richardson is good to go. Friday, 5:48 pm
  • Spurs: Danny Green to miss about 3 weeks
Danny Green (thigh) has been diagnosed with a left quad strain and is expected to be out approximately three weeks.

Advice: It was originally thought to be just a bruise, but now there is a strain of the muscle on Green's left leg. It's going to be tough to replace Green's 26.1 minutes per game, but Kyle Anderson figures to be the next man up along with Jonathon Simmons (calf). Green is only a last-round pick with this injury news. Friday, 4:10 pm
  • Jerryd Bayless (wrist) out at least 2 weeks
Jerryd Bayless (sore left wrist) will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Advice: That officially rules him out to start the season. Bayless will not need surgery at this time and hopefully he can be cleared in two weeks. He has been a bit of a slow healer, so it's possible he misses more time. Sergio Rodriguez and T.J. McConnell will handle the PG minutes. Friday, 3:39 pm
  • JaKarr Sampson signs with Memphis
    Grizzlies sign F JaKarr Sampson.

Advice: The Nuggets have too much depth right now for Sampson to make the roster, but that's not the case in Memphis. Sampson saw 18.0 minutes per game for the depleted Nuggets after the break last year and was coming around as a scorer. He's still only emergency depth on Memphis. Friday, 2:25 pm
    Not Active
  • Eric Gordon resting on Friday
Eric Gordon will rest vs. the Spurs on Friday.

Advice: He should open the season as the starter at SG, especially with Patrick Beverley possibly needing knee surgery. Gordon is averaging 15.2 points and 2.5 treys per game during the preseason and looks like a nice value pick late. K.J. McDaniels and Corey Brewer will be busy Friday. Friday, 9:16 am
  • Kyrie Irving (calf) doesn't practice Thursday
Kyrie Irving (left calf tightness) did not practice on Thursday.

Advice: The Cavs maintain that Irving is fine, but with the regular-season just five days away, they're going to be extremely cautious with their star guard. Additionally, the Cavs are reportedly looking to add another backup point guard to the roster via trade, because they'd like to keep Irving's minutes "relatively low" during the regular-season and they don't believe Kay Felder is ready to handle major minutes at the NBA level. Mo Williams and Jordan McRae are the most likely to be traded. Thursday, 11:39 am
  • Steph Curry pours in 32 points w/ full line
The Warriors beat the Lakers 123-112 on Wednesday, led by Steph Curry's 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting with six 3-pointers, five assists, five rebounds, three steals and one turnover.

Advice: Steph shot 11-of-19 from the field and 4-of-4 from the FT line in a prime example of the Warriors' stat-happy attack -- Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson all filled up the boxscore despite playing no more than 32 minutes. Sure, this came against a Lakers team which ranked dead-last in defensive efficiency last year, but it doesn't negate the fact that Steph is a truly elite fantasy option in any format. Wednesday, 10:01 pm
  • Eric Gordon scores 13 points as starter
Eric Gordon scored 13 points with one assist, one steal and two 3-pointers on Wednesday.

Advice: The Rockets were launching treys in this game with 39 attempts, making just 12. Gordon attempted seven of them and figures to be chucking plenty more as the favorite to start. His downside is there due to a slew of injuries, but he's a big beneficiary of Pat Beverley (knee) not being healthy. Wednesday, 8:28 pm
  • Patrick Beverley out through preseason
Patrick Beverley (knee) will not play in the preseason.

Advice: He may need surgery on his knee and could miss time in the regular season regardless of the treatment plan. There's always a lot of buzz around a Mike D'Antoni point guard, but it turns out that guy may be James Harden. With Beverley out, Eric Gordon benefits the most. Wednesday, 11:31 am
  • Eric Gordon will start on Wednesday night
Eric Gordon will start next to James Harden on Wednesday night.

Advice: The Harden PG era looks like it'll be underway tonight. Gordon should also benefit greatly as a key 3-pointers specialist for coach Mike D'Antoni. While Gordon is injury prone, he's coming off a 2.5 treys per game season and could flirt with 3.0 this year. He's a nice target in the late rounds. Wednesday, 11:26 am
  • No decision made on treatment for Bayless
The 76ers are still consulting with medical specialist regarding Jerryd Bayless' left wrist injury.

Advice: Bayless remains without an official timetable to return, and all we really know at this point is that the results of last week's MRI were not positive, according to Bayless. T.J. McConnell and Sergio Rodriguez will continue to split minutes at the point guard slot while Bayless is sidelined, and it's looking like McConnell could be Philly's starting point guard on opening night. With no definitive timetable on Bayless, he's a bit too risky to draft in standard settings. Wednesday, 7:52 am
  • Evan Turner still adjusting to Stotts' system
Evan Turner is still adjusting to his new teammates and the style of play in Portland.

Advice: "He had a good rhythm," coach Terry Stotts said. "He missed some shots, but Evan is getting more comfortable every game. And we’re getting a little better at figuring out how to put him in better spots. It’s going to be about learning his teammates, getting comfortable with our style of play, all those things." Turner has shot just 33.3 percent from the field through the preseason, but efficiency has never really been one of his strong points. He'll likely come off the bench in Portland, so he's more of a late-round target in deep leagues. Wednesday, 7:44 am
  • Patrick Beverley may need surgery on knee
Patrick Beverley may need surgery on his left knee according to ESPN.

Advice: Wow. He's missed the last four games with "knee irritation," and Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni hinted last week that he's not expecting him to be ready for the regular season. Beverley will undergo further evaluations this week before a final determination is made, but this takes him off the standard-league radar until we know more. Eric Gordon gets a bump with this news and should start next to James Harden. Tuesday, 8:25 pm
  • Ty Johnson scores 15 off Heat bench
Tyler Johnson came off the Miami bench to hit 6-of-9 shots and a 3-pointer for 15 points, three rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block in Tuesday's win.

Advice: Johnson was the Heat's best player on Friday, got the day off on Saturday, and then looked very good again tonight. He's locked in as Goran Dragic's backup at point guard, but if Dragic goes down, TJ could become a hot pickup in fantasy. He'll also play some shooting guard alongside Dragic at times this season. Tuesday, 7:22 pm
  • Tim Hardaway Jr. scores 16 off the bench
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 16 points off the bench on Tuesday vs. the Pelicans, adding one steal and two treys in just 17 minutes.

Advice: THJ's got our attention now after scoring 19 points with four assists, three rebounds and one block in his previous outing. A lot of things have to fall the right away for THJ to make an impact in fantasy while Kyle Korver and Kent Bazemore are healthy, but he's made a strong case to be a consistent part of the rotation unlike last season. Tuesday, 7:18 pm
  • Kyrie Irving (calf) will not return Tuesday
Kyrie Irving experienced some left calf tightness on Tuesday vs. the Wizards and will not return.

Advice: First things first, the injury sounds very minor, but the Cavs aren't going to take any chances here. We'll put him on the injury report, but we'd very surprised if his status for opening night was in jeopardy if this diagnosis remains the same. Kay Felder won the backup PG role with a strong camp and will benefit if Irving misses time. Tuesday, 5:04 pm
  • Patrick Beverley likely to miss season opener
Patrick Beverley (sore knee) is likely to miss the season opener.

Advice: Beverley is trying to work his way back from irritation in his left knee, and head coach Mike D'Antoni isn't counting on him for the opener. "We'll know more by the end of the week," D'Antoni said. "I'm not counting on [Beverley returning by the season opener]. Can't count on that." Beverley could lose his starting SG job to Eric Gordon by the time he returns, and isn't much more than a late-round pick in standard fantasy leagues. Tuesday, 10:16 am
  • P.J. Tucker (back) does some 3-on-3
P.J. Tucker (back) did some 3-on-3 work on Monday.

Advice: He was cleared to start running last week, so he's progressing nicely. Tucker is going to move to a bench role on the Suns with T.J. Warren moving into the starting lineup. Monday, 1:04 pm
  • Devin Booker (ankle) back at practice
Devin Booker (ankle) went through Monday's scrimmage.

Advice: His ankle injury was never really a concern. Booker is still leading the NBA in scoring per game and it looks like the Suns will play him over 30 minutes as the starting shooting guard. He's also likely to get a handful of minutes at small forward due to his added post game and interior passing. Booker is a breakout pick, but he is going to cost you. Monday, 12:54 pm
  • Tim Hardaway Jr. warms up, scores 19 points
Tim Hardaway Jr. came off the bench on Sunday for 19 points, four assists, three rebounds and one block in 30 minutes.

Advice: The shooting wasn't great but it was a far cry from his disastrous efficiency in three previous games, when he shot a combined 3-of-30 from the field. Kyle Korver and Kent Bazemore were resting tonight, and Thabo Sefolosha was limited to 19 minutes, so it's hard to get excited about Hardaway's scoring burst. Oct 16, 5:49 pm
  • Burks (knee, ankle) goes through agility work
Alec Burks (knee and ankle surgeries) "went hard" during an after practice agility work session on Sunday, according to Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Advice: Burks still hasn't been able to practice with the team, or take any contact, so his status for opening night is very much in jeopardy. Utah has a ton of depth at the guard positions this year, so it's going to be tough for Burks to make a difference in fantasy hoops. Oct 16, 12:16 pm
  • Tyler Johnson (rest) out Saturday as well
Tyler Johnson (rest) will not play on Saturday vs. Minnesota.

Advice: Hassan Whiteside, Udonis Haslem and Goran Dragic will join him on #TeamRest. Oct 15, 3:43 pm
  • D'Antoni: Eric Gordon could start for Rockets
Mike D'Antoni said that Eric Gordon could start over Patrick Beverley (knee) for the Rockets.

Advice: D'Antoni said that Gordon isn't starting on Saturday because he wants to keep him in the role that he's expected to have when Beverley returns, but then added in the same breath that EJ could eventually start over Beverley. It doesn't sound like even D'Antoni is sure on exactly what he wants to do, but it's nice to have options. Regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench, Gordon should play closer to starter's minutes and looks like a good late-round source of 3-pointers and scoring so long as he remains on the court. Oct 15, 3:35 pm
  • Coach not concerned with Hardaway's shot
Mike Budenholzer expressed no concern with Tim Hardaway Jr.'s shooting struggles during the preseason.

Advice: Despite being just 3-of-30 from the field overall (including 0-of-11 from distance), Bud has confidence in his young shooter. "Timmy is such a conscientious and had-working [player]," Budenholzer said. "My only real concern is that he just relaxes and flushes it out. He’s had a great summer. We are extremely confident in him. But he is one of those guys who wants to be good. He’s so diligent and conscientious. I think he is taking good shots, getting good shots. I think he’s going to be fine" So long as Kyle Korver and Kent Bazemore remain healthy, Hardaway has no real fantasy value. Oct 15, 1:25 pm
  • Nuggets waive Sampson and Toupane
The Nuggets have waived JaKarr Sampson, Axel Toupane and D.J. Kennedy.

Advice: Their roster is now down to 17, meaning they still need to waive two more guys. Sampson has improved a ton since his Philly days and should draw some interest around the league. Oct 15, 9:30 am

  • Brandon Knight gets 25 minutes
Brandon Knight (knee) returned to action and made his first start of the preseason on Friday, finishing with 11 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes.

Advice: Devin Booker (ankle) did not play in this game and coach Earl Watson decided to go back to his old backcourt starters from last year. Knight is going to come off the bench this year, which isn't a bad thing for a guy who can score and dish to his young teammates. Knight is still a decent target in the later middle rounds. Oct 14, 9:46 pm
  • Stephen Curry scores 22 points in OT win
Stephen Curry turned in his best game of the preseason on Friday, scoring 22 points with nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 27 minutes.

Advice: There hasn't been any reason to worry about Curry since the first preseason game. In his last three, he's averaged 16.3 points, 4.7 boards, 4.7 dimes, 2.3 steals, 1.0 blocks and 2.3 treys in just 25.3 minutes per game. Curry is very unlikely to match his 30.1 points and 34.2 minutes per game from last year, but that's fine for a guy who had one of the most legendary fantasy seasons of all time. Oct 14, 9:15 pm
  • Tyler Johnson has a big game off bench
Tyler Johnson was Miami's best player on Friday with 17 points, four rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block and four 3-pointers.

Advice: That's two big games in a row with a 14-point outing on Tuesday. Johnson is going to get minutes at both guard positions with the Heat looking to maximize their $50 million man. Injuries kept him to just 36 games last year, but Johnson was very good with a 48.6 field goal percentage. He could wind up being a sneaky bench guy in standard leagues. Oct 14, 7:57 pm
  • Brandon Knight will play; Alex Len will not
Brandon Knight (knee) will play against the Mavs on Friday.

Advice: His left knee tendinitis is not a concern and he should be good to go. Knight will come off the bench and should have a big-time usage rate and good assist numbers. Oct 14, 6:34 pm
  • Devin Booker will not play on Friday
Devin Booker (ankle) will not play on Friday against the Mavs.

Advice: It's too bad for one of the most exciting teenagers in the NBA. Booker actually leads the NBA in preseason scoring per game thanks to his impressive 34-point gem from last weekend. The Suns seem to be ready to unleash him as a scorer, but his game doesn't translate to fantasy as well as fellow sophomore D'Angelo Russell. Booker is an upside pick in the middle rounds. Oct 14, 2:20 pm
  • Brandon Knight questionable for Friday
Brandon Knight (knee) is questionable to play against the Mavs on Friday.

Advice: He missed Wednesday due to some left knee tendinitis. Knight hasn't had any noteworthy knee issues since 2013 and that was to his right knee. The fact that he's questionable for a preseason game is strong enough evidence that this isn't serious. Oct 14, 2:14 pm
  • Patrick Beverley could miss a week or two
Patrick Beverley (sore knee) could miss a week or two according to coach Mike D'Antoni.

Advice: The season starts in less than two weeks, so this report means that Beverley's status for the opener is up in the air. Beverley was expected to start next to Harden this season, but Eric Gordon has looked great in the preseason and could steal the job. Beverley is still not practicing with the team. Oct 14, 10:19 am
  • Patrick Beverley (sore knee) out Saturday
Patrick Beverley (sore knee) will not play on Saturday vs. Memphis.

Advice: He still isn't practicing and the Rockets haven't provided a timetable. A report on Thursday indicated that Beverley is "feeling better," but we won't have any more clarity for a couple more days. Pablo Prigioni (shoulder) is doubtful, so James Harden and Eric Gordon could be busy. Oct 14, 9:53 am
  • Devin Booker (ankle) questionable Friday
Devin Booker (ankle) is questionable for Friday's game vs. Dallas.

Advice: He is dealing with a right ankle sprain that held him out of Thursday's practice. The Suns will be cautious during the preseason, so he's probably a little closer to doubtful. Booker leads the NBA in scoring during the preseason with averages of 21.5 points in just 25.2 minutes per game, adding 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.8 steals. He's 19 years old. Expect the Suns to get a long look at Archie Goodwin if Booker sits. Oct 14, 8:05 am
  • Evan Turner slowly adjusting to new team
Evan Turner said that he is slowly adjusting to his new teammates.

Advice: "A week ago I had so much trouble with the new plays,’’ Turner said. "Now, I’m more familiar with the plays, it’s just on the fly decisions, knowing in .6 of a second who to get where and how.’’ Turner ran the offense for the second unit on Thursday vs. the Clippers, but he really struggled and coach Terry Stotts said he is "still finding his way.’’ He's averaging 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 25.5 minutes during the preseason, shooting 37.5 percent from the field. As for the starting SF role, Turner has started one game compared to two for Moe Harkless, while Allen Crabbe has one as well. Oct 14, 7:01 am
  • Brown says Bayless doesn't have a timetable
76ers coach Brett Brown said that Jerryd Bayless (wrist) doesn't have a timetable to return.

Advice: "It's still uncertain," Brown said. "I think soon we are going to make some level of an announcement. But we are still trying to learn everything we can and do this with him out of respect for his future, his current health." Bayless admitted that the results of last week's MRI were not good, and the 76ers are expected to run more tests in the coming days. The 76ers could add another PG to the mix, but right now it appears that T.J. McConnell will start with Sergio Rodriguez backing him up. Oct 14, 6:29 am
  • Kyrie Irving makes just 5-of-15
Kyrie Irving made just 5-of-15 from the field for 13 points against the Raptors on Thursday, adding one rebound, eight assists, two steals and two 3-pointers.

Advice: He didn't have LeBron James around for this one and was the engine of the offense tonight. The Cavs do not have much depth behind Irving and he's coming into the season healthy, so he should have no problem clearing his 31.5 minutes per game. He makes sense at the end of the second round of a standard draft. Oct 13, 9:14 pm
  • Patrick Beverley (sore knee) 'feeling better'
Patrick Beverley (sore knee) is reportedly "feeling better" and his status will be clarified later this week.

Advice: Bev didn't travel overseas with the Rockets and the severity of his injury is unclear, but it doesn't sound too serious. His upside is limited as a point guard who shoots a low percentage, doesn't get many assists, and has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career. Oct 12, 10:00 pm
  • Jared Dudley (right knee) logs 15 minutes
Jared Dudley (right knee tendinitis) finished Wednesday's preseason game with two points, three boards, three assists, one steal and two turnovers.

Advice: The veteran played 15 minutes and the knee tendinitis that bothered him last week seems like a non-factor. He's worth a look in 16-team drafts. Oct 12, 9:21 pm
