Smith said he wants to retire as a Knick, ESPN New York reports.
Recommendation: Smith has a $2.9 million player option for next season, but he is likely to opt out and become a free agent. He had an excellent season and won the NBA's Sixth Man Award as he averaged 18.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.9 three-pointers and 1.3 steals a game. Before the playoffs started, it was largely assumed that Smith was going to cash in big due to his excellent regular season, but he shot only 33.1 percent in the playoffs and may have lost some money as a result. Although he wants to remain a Knick, they may offer him less than they would have before his playoff slump. Regardless of where he lands, he will likely be an excellent scoring option off the bench or as a member of a starting five.
