  • Pacers waive G Julyan Stone
    Pacers waive G Julyan Stone.

Advice: Stone will reportedly play for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the D-League, so there's a chance he'll catch the eye of another NBA franchise this season. Yesterday, 4:52 pm

  • Pacers waive F Jeremy Evans
    Pacers waive F Jeremy Evans.

Advice: Evans struggled with a shoulder injury this preseason and failed to score in two appearances. He was never expected to be a part of the rotation. Yesterday, 4:52 pm

  • Andrew Wiggins (illness) will play in opener
Andrew Wiggins (illness) will play in Minnesota's regular-season opener against Memphis on Wednesday.

Advice: Wiggins experienced an allergic reaction in his eyes and said that his face swelled up so bad that he felt like Will Smith in Hitch. He's fine now, though, and there's nothing suggesting that he won't take the court Wednesday night. Additionally, the Wolves have exercised their fourth year option on Wiggins. Yesterday, 3:26 pm
  • Donatas Motiejunas doubtful for season opener
Donatas Motiejunas (contract dispute) is doubtful to play on opening night.

Advice: Motiejunas' qualifying offer has now expired, but there's still a chance he and the Rockets could come to terms on a deal before the final roster cuts are made on Monday. However, even if he does agree to sign with Houston, he missed all of training camp and the preseason, so his conditioning is likely an issue. Until he actually has a contract with a team, there's no reason to draft him in any league. Yesterday, 2:41 pm
  • Rick Carlisle downplays Barnes' shooting woes
Rick Carlisle didn't seem all that concerned when discussing the fact that Harrison Barnes shot just 26.7 percent from the floor during the preseason.

Advice: "Shooting percentages have never been an important thing to me," Carlisle said. "I look much more at the process, the force and conviction with which guys are stepping into shots. He's ready to go." The preseason is often when teams are rather lax on defense, so the fact that Barnes struggled so mightily is certainly concerning. Barnes really benefited from playing next to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in Golden State, but he could struggle seeing some added defensive pressure as one of the main guys in Dallas. At best, he's a late-round flier in standard leagues. Yesterday, 1:13 pm
  • C.J. Miles (knee) scrimmages on Sunday
C.J. Miles (left knee) scrimmaged on Sunday.

Advice: It looks like Miles will be good to go for the regular season opener against the Mavericks on Wednesday, but he won't have much value at all this year as Paul George's backup. Yesterday, 12:40 pm
  • Hoiberg hopeful Valentine can play in opener
Fred Hoiberg said that Denzel Valentine (ankle) should be able to go through a full practice on Monday, and he's hopeful that Valentine will be ready for the regular-season opener.

Advice: Valentine was again limited to non-contact work during Sunday's practice, but it sounds like he's making some solid progress, so opening night could be a possibility. Still, he's going to struggle to find meaningful minutes while the Bulls are at full strength, meaning he's not worth drafting in almost any format. Yesterday, 12:28 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) practice in full Sunday
Nikola Mirotic (back) was a full participant during Sunday's practice.

Advice: Mirotic was also a full participant during Saturday's practice, so all indications are that he'll be just fine for opening night. Fred Hoiberg still has yet to commit to a starting five, but at this point, it would be surprising if Taj Gibson didn't start. Mirotic does have some upside, but it could be tough for him to reach his true potential in a reserve role. He's more of a late-round flier in standard leagues. Yesterday, 12:20 pm
  • Marvin Williams (finger) will play in opener
Marvin Williams (left finger) will play in the regular-season opener against the Bucks on Wednesday, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.

Advice: Williams was only dealing with a non-displaced fracture to the middle finger on his non-shooting hand, so it's not all that surprising to hear he'll be ready for opening night. He's a fine late-round target with early-round upside. Yesterday, 11:56 am
  • Johnson, Hayward, Burks don't practice Sunday
Joe Johnson, Gordon Hayward (finger) and Alec Burks (knee, ankle) did not practice on Sunday.

Advice: Hayward is in the early stages of his recovery process and isn't expected to get back onto the court until mid-to-late November, while Burks remains out indefinitely following the offseason knee and ankle surgeries. Johnson's non-participation was due to rest, but he'll obviously be fine for opening night. Johnson could be more involved in Utah's offense to start the year with Hayward out, but he's not really worth drafting in standard settings. Yesterday, 11:30 am
  • Quincy Acy (foot) expected to play in opener
Quincy Acy (right foot strain) is expected to be ready for Dallas' regular season opener against the Pacers.

Advice: Acy was able to go through half of Sunday's practice, so he should be good to go by Wednesday. That being said, it's unlikely that he'll be in the rotation while the team is healthy, so there's no reason to waste a draft pick on Acy in any setting. Yesterday, 11:16 am
  • Terrence Ross limited at practice Sunday
Terrence Ross took a knee to his thigh during Sunday's practice, but it's not believed to be serious.

Advice: Ross has already been dealing with a knee issue, but he did play in the preseason finale. There will be an update on Monday, but Ross should be fine for the season opener. He's not a reliable option in standard leagues while the Raptors are healthy. Yesterday, 10:09 am
  • Robert Covington expected to play Wednesday
Robert Covington (ankle) is expected to play on Wednesday according to coach Brett Brown even though he sat out of Sunday's practice.

Advice: RoCo tweaked his right ankle during Friday's preseason game and didn't return, but the 76ers were just being cautious. He had a really rough preseason, but he's looking at heavy minutes on a banged up 76ers' roster. He will be a nice source of 3-pointers and steals and is worth targeting towards the end of the middle rounds. Yesterday, 10:01 am
  • Raptors pick up their option on Caboclo
The Raptors have picked up their fourth-year option on Bruno Caboclo.

Advice: The Raptors aren't giving up on him yet, but sooner or later Caboclo has to prove that he's an NBA player. Expect him to spend a lot of time developing in the D-Leauge this season. Yesterday, 8:32 am
  • Cavaliers expected to waive Dahntay Jones
The Cavaliers are expected to waive Dahntay Jones.

Advice: This means that DeAndre Liggins will make the 15-man roster. Jones wouldn't have been in the rotation anyways, especially after J.R. Smith finally re-signed. Yesterday, 8:28 am
  • Fizdale says Allen has made progress
Memphis coach David Fizdale said that Tony Allen's knee has made progress.

Advice: "He looked good, and I think he’s getting close," Fizdale said. "I don’t want to say there’s guarantees, but he went through the whole practice today and all of yesterday. We don’t go for continuous long stretches of time, but he’s looking better, and I’m hoping we get him back soon." Allen returned to practice this week after missing all six preseason games due to knee soreness, but he's hopeful to play in the season opener. Fizdale confirmed that he will start at SG this season and the Grizzlies even let him run the point in training camp, so the minutes should be there. If you need steals, Allen's worth a look. Yesterday, 7:41 am
  • Stephenson battling Gee for 15th roster spot
Lance Stephenson is competing with Alonzo Gee for the final roster spot in New Orleans.

Advice: If the preseason is any indication, Stephenson has the edge right now. The Pelicans need another ball-handler with Jrue Holiday (personal) away from the team and Tyreke Evans out with a knee injury, so that also helps Stephenson's case. "I think he did a good job for us," coach Alvin Gentry said. "He was kind of locked in and tried to do the things we asked him to do." Even if he makes the team, Stephenson won't be an option in standard formats right out of the gate. Yesterday, 6:29 am
  • C.J. Miles (left knee) will not need surgery
C.J. Miles (left knee) will not require surgery.

Advice: That's the good news. Here's the bad: Miles is dealing with swollen tissue just beneath his kneecap, and it's not clear when he might be able to return to the court. Although the veteran is optimistic he will be ready for the season opener, we're more pessimistic given it's a recurring issue coupled with the fact that there is no clear treatment plan in place. Miles is shooting jumpers and "occasionally" running on a treadmill, but you have to do a lot more than that to be an effective NBA player. Miles hopes the next step involves contact drills, but the Pacers will reevaluate him at every turn along the way. An MRI has ruled out any structural damage, but nobody seems to have a clear vision of what the timeline could be. "I'm definitely not going to get in a game without a chance to be in practice," Miles said. Glen Robinson III is the favorite to take Miles' minutes assuming he's out to begin the year. Saturday, 3:30 pm
  • Cuban: Harrison Barnes isn't our No. 1 option
Mark Cuban said that he does not expect Harrison Barnes to be the top option in Dallas.

Advice: Considering the Mavs just gave Barnes nearly $100M, we're not sure this is exactly what fans wanted to hear. "Now are we asking him to come in and be our leading scorer day one? No," Cuban said. "I think we'll have a great balance of scoring attack. There are going to be days he scores four points and games when he scores 25 points. As long as we're getting the defensive effort." Given how horrific Barnes looked during the preseason, we're not sure Cuban is going to get what he's asking for. And that usually doesn't end up well. Saturday, 3:23 pm
  • Report: Rockets cut ties with G/F PJ Hairston
The Rockets have reportedly waived G/F P.J. Hairston.

Advice: Hairston was a long shot to make the team and failed to make any kind of meaningful impression in training camp or during the preseason. Saturday, 2:50 pm
  • Grizzlies waive F JaKarr Sampson on Saturday
    Grizzlies waive F JaKarr Sampson.

Advice: Sampson was just signed on Friday, but it's likely that was done so Memphis could have his D-League rights. Given his athleticism and ability to defend, it's possible Sampson winds up elsewhere before opening night. Saturday, 2:19 pm
    Not Active
  • Tony Allen (knee) hopeful for season opener
Tony Allen (knee) returned to a full practice on Saturday and is hopeful to play in the season opener.

Advice: Allen did admit that he does need to do a better job of listening to his body, but he's got a well-established reputation for playing through anything and everything he can. We don't expect that to change anytime soon, so if he can play on opening night, we expect him to be out there. The Grizzlies will determine his status based on the amount of residual swelling he has, so expect multiple updates prior to Wednesday. If he can't go, Memphis is going to have to get creative with its starting lineup given Chandler Parsons (knee surgery) remains a major question mark. Saturday, 1:47 pm
  • Damjan Rudez makes Orlando's final roster
Damjan Rudez has made Orlando's final roster.

Advice: Rudez has a good shot when it's on, but we haven't seen much else from him during his NBA tenure to date. He's not expected to be in Frank Vogel's rotation. Saturday, 12:43 pm
  • Denzel Valentine does non-contact practice
Denzel Valentine (left ankle sprain) was able to participate in the non-contact portions of Saturday's practice.

Advice: In other words, Valentine went through dummy drills. It remains unclear if he'll be ready for opening night, but the Bulls recently acquired Michael Carter-Williams who should play ahead of Valentine regardless. Saturday, 12:23 pm
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) practices on Saturday
Nikola Mirotic (back) returned to a full practice on Saturday.

Advice: Although Fred Hoiberg has not yet decided on Chicago's opening night power forward, the expectation is for Mirotic to be available. Mirotic has the potential to be an intriguing fantasy commodity, but he's more of a flier right now given his competition for minutes as well as his uncertain role. Saturday, 12:21 pm
  • Hawks may extend Hardaway Jr.'s contract
The Hawks are looking to extend Tim Hardaway Jr.'s contract prior to the Oct. 31 deadline.

Advice: Hawks GM Wes Wilcox confirmed that the team has held talks with THJ's representatives. The Hawks will also have to pay Paul Millsap and Dennis Schroder next summer, so it will be interesting to see how much they're willing to give to THJ. He's been solid in the preseason with a couple of really nice performances, so he should be in the rotation behind an aging Kyle Korver. Saturday, 7:28 am
  • Jared Dudley gets 29 minutes
Jared Dudley scored 11 points with four rebounds, two assists, four steals and two 3-pointers in 29 minutes on Friday.

Advice: His minutes should be in the upper 20s to start the year while the Suns groom their two top-10 picks at power forward. If you want a little boost early in the season, Dudley could definitely be a top-150 player in the first two months of the season. Friday, 10:22 pm
  • Harrison Barnes' bad preseason finally ends
Harrison Barnes did not do much on Friday, scoring eight points with three rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes.

Advice: It was a preseason to forget for Harry B. The Mavs are obviously committed to him with his $94 million deal, so he has a leash as long as Texas as the starting small forward. Barnes is being put into a new role and it's really tough to invest anything more than a late-round pick on him based on how awful he looked this month. Friday, 9:48 pm
  • Kawhi Leonard has another strong preseason
Kawhi Leonard scored 15 points with four rebounds, two assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in 18 minutes on Friday.

Advice: That's a wrap for his preseason and he obviously dominated. In his five games, Leonard averaged 15.4 points, 5.2 boards, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.6 treys in just 22.2 minutes per game. He's an elite option and should be coming off the board in the same neighborhood as Karl-Anthony Towns. Friday, 9:44 pm
  • Robbie Hummel, Wolters waived
Nuggets waive F Robbie Hummel and G Nate Wolters.

Advice: Hummel had some talent earlier in his career, but the ACL surgeries hurt his chances to get going again. Friday, 9:36 pm
    Not Active
  • Jerami Grant scores 17 points
Jerami Grant scored 17 points with four rebounds, one assist, two steals and no turnovers in 24 minutes on Friday.

Advice: Robert Covington (ankle) couldn't return, so Grant saw some added run. Grant's offensive arsenal has grown this preseason and he'll be asked to play both forward spots. He's still likely to be a major problem in the percentage categories, so it's tough to target him in standard leagues. Friday, 9:03 pm
  • Robert Covington suffers ankle sprain
Robert Covington suffered a right ankle sprain and did not return on Friday.

Advice: He was originally getting re-taped to come back in the game, but the team wisely changed its mind. There's been no word on RoCo missing time going forward and we would consider him probable for the opener right now. With Ben Simmons (foot) out, expect Covington to be a stud for steals and treys. He's a solid pick in the late middle rounds. Friday, 8:56 pm
  • D-Will, Wes, Harry B, Dirk & Bogut to start
Deron Williams, Wesley Matthews, Harrison Barnes, Dirk Nowitzki and Andrew Bogut will start on Friday.

Advice: Let's all hope Harry B can get it going. He's had a really rough time this month. Friday, 5:57 pm
  • Andrew Wiggins out, Shabazz Muhammad in
Andrew Wiggins (illness) will not play while Shabazz Muhammad (hip) will on Friday.

Advice: Coach Tom Thibodeau said he wants to use his starters into the fourth, so we'll see a bunch of the other four first-unit guys. Wiggins should be OK for the opener next week. Friday, 4:19 pm
  • Update: Terrence Ross in, Cory Joseph out
Terrence Ross will dress and Cory Joseph is out with flu-like symptoms for Friday.

Advice: The Raptors have said Ross is in, then out, and now he's in again today. Friday, 4:07 pm
  • Update: Terrence Ross will not play
Terrence Ross (knee) will not play on Friday.

Advice: It was reported earlier Ross was going to play, but the Raptors will keep him out. He still should be able to suit up for the opener as the first wing off the bench. He and Norman Powell negate each other in the second unit. Friday, 2:53 pm
  • JaKarr Sampson signs with Memphis
    Grizzlies sign F JaKarr Sampson.

Advice: The Nuggets have too much depth right now for Sampson to make the roster, but that's not the case in Memphis. Sampson saw 18.0 minutes per game for the depleted Nuggets after the break last year and was coming around as a scorer. He's still only emergency depth on Memphis. Friday, 2:25 pm
    Not Active
  • C.J. Miles up in the air for opener
C.J. Miles (knee) did not practice on Friday.

Advice: With Miles down, the Pacers have seen Glenn Robinson III have a wonderful preseason. Miles is expected to play more stretch four in the second unit, but his minutes could be in jeopardy if GR3 keeps playing well. Friday, 1:44 pm
  • Andrew Wiggins (illness) questionable Friday
Andrew Wiggins (illness) is questionable for Friday's game vs. the Hornets.

Advice: Shabazz Muhammad (hip) is also questionable. Wiggins returned to practice on Thursday, but if he is ultimately held out, it will likely just be a precaution. He will be fine for the regular season. Friday, 9:57 am
  • Terrence Ross will play, Cory Joseph will not
Terrence Ross (knee) will play on Friday vs. the Wizards, while Cory Joseph (illness) has been ruled out.

Advice: Ross was able to get up some shots on Wednesday and this confirms that he will be ready for opening night, barring a setback. The Raptors have been talking him up a ton, but he's not a lock to be the first wing off the bench with Norman Powell around. Ross is only on the radar in deeper formats. Friday, 8:24 am
  • Wiggins, Muhammad practice on Thursday
Andrew Wiggins (illness) and Shabazz Muhammad (hip) went through a full practice on Thursday and will be re-evaluated on Friday.

Advice: We're going to consider both guys questionable for the preseason finale against Charlotte on Friday, but neither guy is dealing with anything that should linger into the regular season. Wiggins should be able to take another step forward under Tom Thibodeau, so he's a decent guy to gamble on during the middle rounds. Thursday, 12:53 pm
  • Quincy Acy (foot) ruled out for Friday
Quincy Acy (right foot sprain) will not suit up for Friday's preseason finale against the Nuggets.

Advice: Acy is just going to be an emergency depth guy in Dallas, meaning he's not worth drafting in any setting. Thursday, 11:20 am
  • Denzel Valentine (ankle) targeting opener
Denzel Valentine (ankle) is hopeful he'll be good to go by opening night.

Advice: "That’s the plan," Valentine said when asked if he'll be ready for the regular-season opener. "But if not, then just have to keep going with how I feel. Hopefully, I'm back soon." With the arrival of Michael Carter-Williams, it's going to be really tough for Valentine to see meaningful minutes his rookie season. Thursday, 11:16 am
  • Harry Bad: Barnes now at just 35.3 TS% as Mav
Harrison Barnes' disastrous preseason continued on Wednesday, making 1-of-9 from the field for eight points with three rebounds and two turnovers.

Advice: So it turns out Kevin Durant is an upgrade over Harry B. In the preseason, Barnes has a woeful 35.2 true shooting percentage, including just 17.1 percent on his jumpers. We've seen Barnes have rough stretches for months at a time, but needless to say the Mavs aren't feeling great about paying him. If he falls to the last few rounds, he still might be worth a late pick. Wednesday, 8:45 pm
  • Joe Johnson quiet despite another start
Joe Johnson had another quiet game on Wednesday with four points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal in 20 minutes.

Advice: Johnson didn't play poorly, but his limited minutes and stats are symptomatic of his new role as a veteran glue-guy in Utah. It's hard to justify drafting him in standard leagues, even with Gordon Hayward (finger) on the sidelines to start the season. Wednesday, 8:37 pm
  • Marvin Williams (finger) out for Thursday
Marvin Williams (left finger) will not play on Thursday.

Advice: He's almost certainly out for the preseason and is questionable to play in the opener. For Thursday night, we'll get a long at Frank Kaminsky at power forward and it'll be interesting to see if Michael Kidd-Gilchrist plays some four. Williams is still a solid late-round pick and he's going to slide even more now. Wednesday, 4:18 pm
  • C.J. Miles (sore knee) held out of contact
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) did spot-up shooting on Wednesday but he didn't participate in contact drills.

Advice: Miles won't play on Wednesday, obviously, and it's unclear when he'll be cleared to return -- the injury doesn't sound too serious but Indiana might play it safe with the veteran marksman. If he does miss time, expect Glenn Robinson III to pick up most of his minutes. Wednesday, 3:58 pm
  • Andrew Wiggins, Shabazz Muhammad out vs. MEM
Andrew Wiggins (illness) and Shabazz Muhammad (right hip soreness) will miss Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies.

Advice: Coach Tom Thibodeau is going to miss his top two small forward tonight. Brandon Rush has played mostly at shooting guard, but he should have no problem sliding over. We'll also see if Thibs wants to roll with more three-guard lineups. Wiggins should be good to go for the season. Wednesday, 3:32 pm
  • Denzel Valentine (ankle) will not play
Denzel Valentine (ankle) will not play on Thursday night.

Advice: He is going through some contact in practice and has a good chance to be ready on opening night. Valentine should be in the rotation with around 20 minutes per game, but he loses some value with the Michael Carter-Williams deal. Wednesday, 11:11 am
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) out for Thursday
Nikola Mirotic (back) will not travel for Thursday's game.

Advice: He was in some pain from his back injury on Monday. Mirotic has likely lost his chance to start on opening night with Taj Gibson leapfrogging him. With Mirotic out, Bobby Portis should have a bigger role off the bench. While Mirotic has lost some value, he's still a decent flier at the end of drafts. Wednesday, 11:09 am
  • Marvin Williams diagnosed with broken finger
Marvin Williams has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture of his left middle finger and he will be re-evaluated on October 25.

Advice: This obviously ends Williams' preseason run, but it's worth noting that this injury is to his non-shooting hand and head coach Steve Clifford said that there's a "good chance" Williams will be able to suit up for the Hornets' regular-season opener on Oct 26. Despite having a top-50 season last year, Williams has an ADP of 106.6 in Yahoo leagues, so you don't need to target him until the later rounds if you want him. If his absence extends into the regular season, Frank Kaminsky will benefit most. Wednesday, 10:39 am
  • Miles (knee), Brooks (knee) out Wednesday
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) and Aaron Brooks (sore right knee) have been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Bucks.

Advice: Neither player is dealing with a significant injury, but it always seems to be something with Miles. Neither Miles nor Brooks will be worth drafting in most leagues this season. Wednesday, 10:29 am
  • Terrence Ross (knee) out Wednesday vs. DET
Terrence Ross (knee) will not suit up for Wednesday's preseason game against the Pistons.

Advice: Ross was able to get on the court for some light shooting during Wednesday morning's shootaround, so he is making progress, although it seems unlikely that he'll be able to suit up for Toronto's final two preseason games. He should be good to go by opening night, but Ross won't be a fantasy hoops factor this season stuck in a reserve role fighting for minutes with Norman Powell. Wednesday, 9:39 am
  • Tim Hardaway Jr. scores 16 off the bench
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 16 points off the bench on Tuesday vs. the Pelicans, adding one steal and two treys in just 17 minutes.

Advice: THJ's got our attention now after scoring 19 points with four assists, three rebounds and one block in his previous outing. A lot of things have to fall the right away for THJ to make an impact in fantasy while Kyle Korver and Kent Bazemore are healthy, but he's made a strong case to be a consistent part of the rotation unlike last season. Tuesday, 7:18 pm
  • Tony Allen (knee) ruled out Wednesday
Tony Allen (knee) will not play on Wednesday vs. the Wolves.

Advice: It's the preseason finale, so the Grizzlies will continue resting him with the regular season just a week away. He's expected to start at SG, but he should be considered questionable for the season opener. Tuesday, 4:10 pm
  • Denzel Valentine (ankle) limited at practice
Denzel Valentine (ankle) was limited to conditioning work during Tuesday's practice.

Advice: Valentine should be considered questionable for Thursday's exhibition game against the Hawks, and if he's out, it'll be Isaiah Canaan earning some extended minutes. Valentine is likely going to struggle to get meaningful minutes his rookie season, so he's not a great target in most settings. Tuesday, 11:51 am
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) doesn't practice Tues
Nikola Mirotic (strained back) was unable to practice on Tuesday, and his status for Thursday's preseason game against the Hawks remains uncertain.

Advice: Mirotic sustained the injury during Monday's preseason loss to the Hornets, and it wouldn't be surprising at all to see him sit out Thursday's meaningless game if there's any question at all that he's not completely recovered. Consistency has been a major issue for Mirotic through his first two years in the league, but when he's on, he's capable of producing at a top-60 level. Tuesday, 11:43 am
  • C.J. Miles takes some practice shots on Tues
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) didn't practice, but was able to take some shots on Tuesday.

Advice: Miles will travel with the team to Milwaukee and is expected to participate in shootaround on Wednesday. While Miles looks to be on track for the regular season opener, he doesn't have much fantasy value outside of deeper leagues. Tuesday, 10:31 am
  • Nikola Mirotic (back) says he's day-to-day
Nikola Mirotic (strained back) said he is "day to day" after being injured during Monday's preseason game.

Advice: Mirotic didn't return after feeling a "sharp pain," and the Bulls will assuredly play it safe with him over the next week. Fantasy owners should keep a very close watch for updates, but for now this doesn't sound serious enough to bump him down draft boards. Monday, 8:12 pm
  • Mirotic (lower back strain) will not return
Nikola Mirotic (lower back strain) will not return to Monday's game vs. the Hornets.

Advice: He took a hard fall and the Bulls aren't going to take any chances here. He played 10 minutes, but missed all four of his shots from the field (all 3-pointers) with two rebounds and one steal. If he's forced to miss time, Taj Gibson will be looking at heavy minutes and Bobby Portis will take over the backup role. It's been a miserable preseason for Mirotic. Monday, 7:03 pm
  • Marvin Williams (finger) will not return
Marvin Williams was diagnosed with a left middle finger sprain and will not return to Monday's game vs. the Bulls.

Advice: Frank Kaminsky started the second half in place of Williams. We'd like to think that the Hornets are just being cautious here, but they are running some tests on him and he's still in the locker room. The stretch four averaged 11.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 0.7 steals, 1.0 blocks and a career-best 1.9 3-pointers on 45 percent shooting last season. We'll have another update soon. Monday, 6:30 pm
  • Terrence Ross (knee) targeting opening night
Terrence Ross (knee) did not practice on Monday but the Raptors are expecting him back next week.

Advice: Additionally, the Raptors believe he will be ready for opening night. Ross has been hyped quite a bit by the Raptors this summer, but his fantasy outlook is still pretty bleak -- he's going to be fighting for minutes off the bench with impressive second-year player Norman Powell. Ross is only on the radar in deeper leagues. Monday, 10:59 am
  • C.J. Miles (sore left knee) misses practice
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) missed practice again on Monday.

Advice: Coach Nate McMilan said that Miles is day-to-day, but he's not a lock to be ready for opening night either. If he can't go, Glenn Robinson III could be in the rotation behind Paul George after a solid preseason. Miles isn't worth monitoring outside of deeper leagues. Monday, 10:41 am
  • Robert Covington (migraine) misses practice
Robert Covington missed practice on Monday due to a migraine.

Advice: The 76ers have one more preseason game on Friday vs. the Heat, so Covington should be considered questionable. Hollis Thompson missed practice with an illness, so Jerami Grant could be looking at a heavy workload Friday. Monday, 9:49 am
  • Rockets, Motiejunas still far apart in talks
The Rockets and Donatas Motiejunas haven't made any progress on a new contract.

Advice: Motiejunas is reportedly seeking a two- or three-year deal worth much more than $4.4 million per season (the qualifying offer amount). The qualifying offer expired on Oct. 1, but the Rockets could still offer D-Mo a one-year deal for the same amount of money. The problem for D-Mo is that not many other teams have cap space to work with and his back problems have raised reg flags around the league. Unless D-Mo re-signs, it looks like Sam Dekker could be the backup four in Houston. Monday, 7:52 am
  • Tim Hardaway Jr. warms up, scores 19 points
Tim Hardaway Jr. came off the bench on Sunday for 19 points, four assists, three rebounds and one block in 30 minutes.

Advice: The shooting wasn't great but it was a far cry from his disastrous efficiency in three previous games, when he shot a combined 3-of-30 from the field. Kyle Korver and Kent Bazemore were resting tonight, and Thabo Sefolosha was limited to 19 minutes, so it's hard to get excited about Hardaway's scoring burst. Oct 16, 5:49 pm
  • Quincy Acy could miss rest of preseason
Quincy Acy (right ankle) is out of his walking boot, but could be rested for the remainder of the preseason.

Advice: The Mavs don't want to rush him back and it sounds like he could be ready for the season opener. Dwight Powell had a really strong offseason, so Acy may not be in the rotation. Oct 16, 10:55 am
  • Nikola Mirotic scores 14 points vs. Bucks
Nikola Mirotic scored 14 points with five rebounds, one assist, one block and two 3-pointers in 26 minutes on Saturday.

Advice: With Taj Gibson resting, the pressure was on Mirotic to have a good game. He's had terrible games more often than not and he's losing his grasp on the starting spot. If Mirotic can't hold the starting job, his ability to score won't be as important due to how the second unit has some shooters. Obviously depending on who else is out there, pouncing on Mirotic just after 100 seems like a sound investment. Oct 15, 8:27 pm
  • Andrew Wiggins scores 23 points vs. Heat
Andrew Wiggins scored a preseason-high 23 points against the Heat on Saturday, adding four rebounds, one assist, one block and one turnover in 31 minutes.

Advice: After he struggled to hit jumpers earlier this preseason, Wiggins went back to the well with his attacking style. Although, he did have four makes outside of the paint in this game. Wiggins does only have one 3-pointer in his four preseason games, so he might not be able to clear 1.0 per game this season. He's still a decent guy to take in the middle of drafts as long as you're not reaching up too high to get him. Oct 15, 8:20 pm
  • C.J. Miles (left knee) not a lock for opener
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) is not a lock to be ready by opening night.

Advice: Although he's labeled as day-to-day, nobody seems to really know when Miles will be able to get back onto the court. "He's being reevaluated as far as where he's at and being able to get on the floor," said head coach Nate McMillan. As a result, Glen Robinson III has been given a new opportunity and could be in line to begin the year in the rotation. When discussing Miles, McMillan confirmed that "Glenn has taken that spot." • Coach not concerned with Hardaway's shot
Mike Budenholzer expressed no concern with Tim Hardaway Jr.'s shooting struggles during the preseason.

Advice: Despite being just 3-of-30 from the field overall (including 0-of-11 from distance), Bud has confidence in his young shooter. "Timmy is such a conscientious and had-working [player]," Budenholzer said. "My only real concern is that he just relaxes and flushes it out. He’s had a great summer. We are extremely confident in him. But he is one of those guys who wants to be good. He’s so diligent and conscientious. I think he is taking good shots, getting good shots. I think he’s going to be fine" So long as Kyle Korver and Kent Bazemore remain healthy, Hardaway has no real fantasy value. Oct 15, 1:25 pm
  • Nuggets waive Sampson and Toupane
The Nuggets have waived JaKarr Sampson, Axel Toupane and D.J. Kennedy.

Advice: Their roster is now down to 17, meaning they still need to waive two more guys. Sampson has improved a ton since his Philly days and should draw some interest around the league. Oct 15, 9:30 am

  • Tony Allen is still out
Tony Allen (knee) will not play against the Rockets on Saturday.

Advice: The Grizzlies are likely going to hold him out for a little while longer. Given his injury history, there's little reason to draft The Grindfather almost anywhere. Oct 14, 3:37 pm
  • T-Ross out again on Friday
Terrence Ross (knee) will not play on Friday.

Advice: He tweaked his knee on a 360-degree jam in practice earlier this week. The good news is that the MRI came back clean, so he should be ready for the regular season. Oct 14, 2:56 pm
  • Denzel Valentine (ankle) plays 2-on-2 Friday
Denzel Valentine (ankle) participated in 2-on-2 on Friday.

Advice: It sounds like he won't play on Friday vs. the Cavaliers, but he is making progress. Jimmy Butler (rest) will not play as well, meaning Isaiah Canaan should get some decent burn off the bench. Oct 14, 9:38 am
  • C.J. Miles, Aaron Brooks ruled out Friday
C.J. Miles (sore left knee) and Aaron Brooks (sore right knee) will not play vs. the Magic on Friday.

Advice: Miles was listed as doubtful, so the Pacers will hold him out as expected. It doesn't sound serious, so he should be ready for the opener in a couple weeks. Miles averaged 11.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.5 blocks and 2.2 3-pointers on 41 percent shooting last season, but he will have a tough time matching those numbers on a revamped Pacers roster.
