Commish Notes

  • Welp. That happened.

What a Draft. There is always some drama on Draft Night but it feels like we got more than our fair share this year. That said, I want to commend and thank everyone for being adaptable to moving the date forward. We moved collectively so that no one GM would be disadvantaged and forced to auto lotto. I also want to thank the members of the OOTC for spending every moment they could updating the draft board, processing salary cap sheets and compiling data for the Roster Holds Master List. That time could’ve been spent sipping dranks on the beach (Barrio Bari was literally on vacay in Miami with his fiancė) or updating their personal draft boards. As a league we drafted an entire week early and that can’t happen unless everyone is down for the cause - #BallOn!

That said - moving things forward did create issues and perhaps the biggest takeaway is we are likely going to have to schedule our Draft earlier next year - so if we have a conflict, there’s time to move back as opposed to moving everything forward.

Still, we now have more time than usual to do some trades and last minute roster sorting before NBA Tip-Off.

Right now we’re in the “Cool Down” Period. New GMs - you can think of this as the LEGAL TAMPERING period. Trades cannot be submitted to the league, and nothing that happens now is binding - but you can certainly quietly have discussions and broker deals to be sent in when the player acquisition window reopens!

Speaking of, 1) the Waiver Wire and 2) Trades are open at 10AM Friday, October 13th. For new GMs (and old forgetful ones), the Wire is on an Honor System: no touching until 10AM EST on Friday. If you get caught going in the cookie jar before then, the player you acquired gets put back and you go to the end of the waiver wire line.

In the meantime, GMs with more than 18 players under contract - you are allowed to package and move those players during the Cooling Off Period. If you are unable to strike a deal with another GM and fail to instruct the OOTC who you would like to cut, the OOTC will simply release your final pick(s) to the waiver wire at 9:55 am.

Lastly, the OOTC will be trying to clean up any lingering messes from Draft Night and schedule and/or execute the Divisional Draft in this Cooling Off Period.

As always - get at us if you need help or have feedback!

    Ball On,

    The OOTC
