  • LEAGUE RULES

    I. GENERAL RULES

Welcome to Fantasy GM League. While I will try to maintain a highly competitive atmosphere, I wouldn’t consider myself a strict commissioner. That being said, here is a short (non-exhaustive) list of things that may get you kicked out:
    1. Having multiple accounts or colluding with another member to gain an unfair advantage.
    2. Making serious threats to another member or acting in an unsportsmanlike manner.
    3. Repeatedly being inactive for significant amount of time without explanation.

    II. LEAGUE SETTINGS

This is a 12-team salary keeper league with weekly head-to-head scoring. The scored categories include FG%, FTM, PTS, REB, AST, STL, BLK, and TOs, and the playoffs run from week 21 to week 23 between 6 teams. Your team is allotted 12 roster spots. However, you are only required to roster 10 players minimum at all times. Trade vetoes are decided by league vote, and there are no waivers, only free agents. However, you are limited to 3 free agent pickups per week, and you are encouraged to post updates of your salary cap situation after each add/drop/trade. The 3-pickup limit will not apply until the Monday of the first week of games for the season.

III. SALARY CAP (See Cap Tracker - https://goo.gl/SGdZ6K)

Your starting salary cap is $90 million ($85M if you used your Mortgage Exception last season, $100M if you use the Rebuild Exception). You have until the Monday of the first week of games to meet this requirement. If at any time you exceed the salary cap or break the rules, your team will be frozen from making roster changes (start/sit) but you can still add/drop/trade players to get below cap. As soon as you are back under cap, please alert one of our commissioners, so that we can unfreeze your roster. You can find player salaries here - http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/players.html. We use only a player’s active salary with his most current team. The minimum salary for a player is $1,000,000 for the purposes of this league, but may be decreased to zero with the use of a Salary Cap Exception.

    IV. SALARY CAP EXCEPTIONS

There are 10 Salary Cap “Exceptions” that can help you meet the salary cap, but you can only use each Exception once per season, and each Exception has different requirements to activate. To use an Exception, you have to post a message saying which exception you're using. The exceptions are:

    1. Rebuild Exception – In exchange for keeping no players, you can increase your max cap by $10M. In addition, using this Exception will bump up each of your draft picks by 1 spot, including all draft picks you traded for. Furthermore, using the rebuild exception will also wipe away any debt left over from using the Mortgage Exception the previous season, and allow you to re-acquire a previously dropped Bird player.

    2. Larry Bird Exception – You may designate one Keeper “[K]” on your team with "Bird" rights. Doing so reduces that player's salary by $3M for this season, and an additional $2M for every season you continue to use this Exception on him, while designating him as one of your Keepers. [You cannot trade a player with Bird rights. If you drop a player with Bird rights, you must forfeit $5M in cap space for this season and you cannot reacquire this player again until you use the Rebuild Exception. You can change your Bird player from the previous season at any time prior to designating a player with Bird rights for this season. Doing so does not trigger the drop penalty.]

    3. Development Exception – Before the end of Week 1, you may designate one Rookie that you drafted with the "Devo" Exception. Instead of paying his actual salary, you may "fix" that rookie's salary at (a) $10M for players selected in the top 5 picks of his draft class, or (b) $5M for players drafted afterwards, for every season you continue to use this Exception on him, while designating him as one of your Keepers. You may cancel this Exception at any time. Doing so reverts your player's salary back to its original amount. You may only have one player on your team designated with the Devo Exception at any given time. ["Rookie" means all players eligible for the Rookie of the Year award. If you drop a Devo player, his salary reverts to its original amount. However, if you trade a player you've used this exception on, the receiving team may choose to keep the Devo exception on that player, but only if that team has no other Devo player on their roster.]

  • 4. Supermax Exception – Before week 10, you may reduce the cost of a player you drafted or acquired off of free agency (not a Keeper or Traded player) with a base salary of $30M or more to $20M (regardless of what his actual salary is). However, for 5 weeks after using this Exception, you will cannot be able to make any roster changes (adds/drops/trades). [You cannot trade this player. In addition, you can only drop this player by using the 2nd prong of the Injury Exception. You can only use this Exception once, even with the Injury Exception.]

    5. Journeyman Exception – You can reduce the cost of one player, who’s salary is $5M or less, to zero, but you cannot designate this player as a Keeper for next season. [If you drop or trade a player you’ve used this exception on, his salary will revert to its original amount. Regardless of whether you trade or drop this player, you cannot designate him as a Keeper if you later reacquire him.]

    6. Injury Exception – If one of your players gets designated “Injured” and records 10 consecutive DNPs or 20 total DNPs during the season while he is on your roster, you may either (1) add a player who’s salary is $5M or less off free agency for free; or (2) take back one of the Exceptions you’ve used on the injured player, meaning you can use the Exception again, and all current and future effects of using the Exception will be voided. [If you drop or trade a player you’ve used picked up using this Exception, his salary will revert to its original amount.]

    7. Trade Exception – Following a trade, you may reduce the cost of one player acquired in the trade by $3M. You cannot trade this player back to his original team. However, the player may be traded again to another team, while retaining this reduction in cost. If the same player is traded two or more times, his new team may reduce that player's salary by an additional $2M by using this Exception on him (up to $5M max). This Exception can only be used on a player who's active salary is $5M or more. [If you drop a player you’ve used this exception on, his salary reverts to its original amount.]

    8. Hidden Gem Exception – During Week 10, you may reduce the salary of one player on your roster with a Preseason rank of 100 or higher, and a current Season (Total) rank of 50 or lower by $5M. You can only use this Exception on a player who has been on continuously on your roster since Week 5. [You may drop or trade a player with this Exception. A player with this Exception retains the stat reduction even after being traded.]

    9. Mortgage Exception – By giving up $5M in cap space for next season, you may reduce the cost of one player's salary this season by $5 million. This exception can only be used on a player who's salary is or exceeds $10M. [If you drop a player you’ve used this exception on, his salary will revert to its original amount. However, a player retains this cost reduction even when traded. Regardless of whether you drop or trade this player, you will still forfeit $5M in cap space next season unless you use the Rebuild Exception.]

    10. Synergy Exception – During Week 5, you may increase your salary cap by $3M if your team has three players that completes one of the following sets of criteria. If you are able to complete a 2nd set of criteria, you may increase your salary cap by an addition $3M. If you are able to complete all 3 sets of criteria, you gain an addition $4M to your maximum cap space. However, you may only complete each specific set one time. This Exception resets and must be re-applied on Weeks 10 and 15. Between and after each re-application week, the bonuses to your maximum cap space only lasts so long as you continue rostering the players you've used to complete each set of criteria, but the players do not need to keep up their stat averages. [The same player may be used in different sets, but you may not use the same player to meet multiple criteria within the same set.]

    A. Run & Gun - one player with 7.5 or more assists/game, one player with 25 or more points/game, and one player with 3 or more turnovers/game;
    B. Inside-Outside - one player with 2.8 or more made threes/game, one player with a FG% of 60% or higher, and one player with 5.5 or more free throws/game; or
    C. Lock-down Defense - one player with 1.8 or more steals/game, one player with 1.8 or more blocks/game, and one player with 11 or more rebounds/game.

  • V. KEEPERS AND DRAFT

At the end of the season, you get to choose 5 keepers (1 PG, 1 SG, 1 SF, 1 PF, and 1 Center). Next season, you will draft in the reverse order of how you finished this season. Note: the last 5 draft spots are reserved for Keepers, meaning only picks 1-7 are tradeable.

VI. TRADING PICKS AND CAP SPACE

In this league, you are allowed to trade draft picks as well as your excess cap space. We are only drafting 6 players every season, meaning the only usable draft picks are picks 1-6. You can also trade cap space in this league, in $1 million increments, up to $5 million total.

    VII. END OF SEASON AWARDS

Provided this is the first time each player has won each award and you designate him as one of your keepers for next season: (1) If a player on your team wins the Most Valuable Player of the Year, you may increase your max salary cap by $5M for next season; (2) If a player on your team wins the Defensive Player of the Year, you may decrease the max salary cap of one other Team in the league by $5M for next season; (3) If a player on your team wins Rookie of the Year, you may move your highest draft pick up one spot in next year’s draft; (4) If a player on your team wins Most Improved Player of the Year, you may “move” your Bird Rights onto this player, retaining all stacks of salary cap reductions acquired over the years, or if this player was already your Bird player, you may further reduce his salary by an additional $4M going forward; (5) If a player on your team wins 6th Man of the Year Award, you may select a 6th Keeper for next season disregarding any positional requirements.
