LEAGUE RULES:
A. SALARY CAP
Your salary cap is $60 million. You have until October 27th to meet this requirement. If at any time you exceed the salary cap, your team will be frozen. You can find player salaries here - http://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/players.html
B. CAP EXCEPTIONS
However, there are 5 "cap exceptions" that can help you meet the salary cap. If you meet certain requirements, you can exceed your cap by the specified amount. However, you can only use each cap exception one time, and to activate it, you have to post a message saying which exception you're using. The exceptions are:
1. Mortgage Exception - By giving up $5 million cap space for next season, you can sign a player with a salary of $5 million or below without affecting your cap space. (Basically, the player will cost nothing, but will lose this effect if you drop him or trade him)
2. Active Member Exception - For being at the draft, you get $5 million added to your cap space. If you miss the draft, you can still get this exception by staying active in setting your lineup. If I see your lineup is set every week, you will get $5 million added to your cap space after week 10, but only if your missed the draft. (you get this exception automatically, you don't have to post a message)
3. One Year Exception - You may reduce the cost of one player's salary by $5 million, but you won't be able to keep that player for next season. This exception can only be used on a player who's salary is $10 million or more. (If you drop this player, his salary will revert to its original amount, but you can trade him without losing this effect)
4. Larry Bird Exception - You may designate one player on your team with your Bird Exception. If you keep this player for 3 straight seasons without dropping or trading him, you can reduce his salary by $5 million at the start of his 3rd season with your team. Each team can only have one player with the "Bird" designation, and once you drop or trade that player, you won't get to designate another player until next season.
5. Retool Exception - After the All Star break, every team will receive an addition $5 million in salary cap space automatically.
C. KEEPERS
At the end of the season, you get to choose 5 keepers (2 Guards, 2 Forwards, and a Center). Next season, you will draft in the reverse order of how you finished this season after first acquiring your keepers.
D. FREE AGENT PICKUPS
Right now there are no restrictions on free agents and waivers. But after the season starts, you will only be allowed 2 Pickups per week (for my convenience). However, if everyone can keep track of their own salary cap after each add or drop, then I might get rid of this restriction altogether. We'll see.
