The Cavaliers are confident in reaching an extension with Mitchell (calf) this offseason and will soon present the five-star All-Star guard with a four-year, $209 million maximum contract offer, Shams Charania, Joe Vardon and Jason Lloyd of The Athletic report.

Advice: Mitchell's current contract runs through the 2025-26 season, but because he holds a $37.1 million player option for that season that he would almost certainly decline, the Cavaliers are eager to strike a long-term deal with him rather than risk losing him in free agency next summer. On a related note, the Cavaliers are eager to hire an offensive-minded head coach who values ball movement to get the most out of Mitchell, with the report noting that the organization has narrowed down its search to Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson and Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego, both of whom have previous head-coaching experience with the Nets and Hornets, respectively. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Malik Monk intends to sign a four-year, $78 million contract to remain with the Kings.

Advice: One of the NBA’s best sixth-men during his two seasons with the Kings, Monk has reportedly decided to remain in Sacramento and not test free agency. Despite suffering a sprained right MCL in late March, Monk still finished second in NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting after averaging 15.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.5 blocks, and 2.1 3-pointers in 26.0 minutes per game. Making 70 appearances, Monk was an 11th-round player in 8-cat formats. Depending on what the Kings do with starters Kevin Huerter and Harrison Barnes, who have been the subject of trade rumors, Monk could be even more valuable to fantasy managers in 2024-25. Jaylen Brown played 44 minutes in Monday’s 106-88 win over Dallas, accounting for 21 points (7-of-23 FGs, 5-of-6 FTs), eight rebounds, six assists, two steals, and two 3-pointers.

Advice: Brown didn’t have his best night shooting the basketball, but he was influential in other areas as the Celtics wrapped up their 18th title. After winning the Eastern Conference Finals MVP, he stood out again in the NBA Finals and was named series MVP. Brown wasn’t projected to be the Celtics player whose fantasy value would be impacted the most by the additions of Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, based on his Yahoo ADP of 35.8. However, decreased production in the points, rebounds, and free-throw percentage categories led to JB finishing the regular season ranked outside the top 75 in 9-cat formats and just inside the top 60 in 8-cat. Brown averaged 23.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 70.3% from the foul line this season. In 2022-23, he was responsible for 26.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, shooting 76.5% from the line. The scoring and rebounding could remain “low” by Brown’s standards, but getting back into the mid-70s from the charity stripe next season would give his value a welcome boost in category leagues. Advice: Brown entered Game 4 as the betting favorite for NBA Finals MVP honors, and that remains the case despite Boston getting blown out on Friday. No team has even blown a 3-0 series lead in NBA postseason history, so the odds remain in Boston’s favor.
