    • Porzingis undergoes surgery, out 5-6 months
      ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reports that “Kristaps Porzingis had surgery to repair a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon, and that he will return to play in ‘5-to-6 months.’”

      Advice: Brad Stevens mentioned Wednesday that Porzingis was likely to miss the start of the season, and this latest report from Bontemps confirms that assertion. The 5-6 month timeline puts a potential return in the late November to late December range, which means he could potentially miss up to two months to start the 2024-25 campaign.       The Celtics announced Thursday that Porzingis recently underwent successful foot surgery and is expected to return to play in 5-6 months, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports.

      Advice: Porzingis dealt with a lower left leg injury during the playoffs, and offseason surgery was expected. He underwent a procedure to repair a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon and will likely be forced to miss the start of the regular season in the 2024-25 campaign.       The Pacers issued Toppin a qualifying offer Wednesday, making him a restricted free agent, Tony East of SI.com reports.

      Advice: Toppin set career highs across the board during his first season in Indiana, as he averaged 10.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 stocks in 21.1 minutes across 82 regular-season appearances. He also provided a spark off the bench during the postseason, scoring at least 10 points in six straight games at one point.     • Kristaps Porzingis likely to miss start of season
      Celtics team president Brad Stevens said on Tuesday that he expects Kristaps Porzingis (left leg surgery) to miss at least the start of next season.

      Advice: Appearing on the Ryen Rusillo Podcast, Stevens said while the team does not know precisely how much time Porzingis will miss, he’s expected to miss the start of the season. “We’re going to be different right out of the gate simply because we have guys like Kristaps after his surgery -- we don’t know exactly when he’ll be back. But he’ll probably miss at least the very start of the season,” said Stevens. “That’ll be a great opportunity for us to do things different and have to find different solutions and those types of things that come with it. And then we’ll just evaluate our team like we always do.” Porzingis suffered a dislocation of his left posterior tibialis during Game 2 of the NBA Finals and said after the series clincher that his rehab was expected to last a “few months.” The injury boosts Al Horford’s fantasy value heading into the 2024-25 season while freeing up additional usage for fellow starters Derrick White and Jrue Holiday.       Advice: Stevens was pretty vague with his comments, to be fair, and an official timetable won't be known until Porzingis undergoes his procedure in the coming days. Stevens mentioned that Porzingis' potential absence opens the door for the Celtics to be creative at the start of the season with their rotations.       The Nets traded Bridges to the Knicks in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic (foot/wrist), four unprotected first-round picks, a protected first-round pick via the Bucks, an unprotected pick swap and a second-round pick on Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

      Advice: Bridges will head to the Knicks after being traded from Phoenix to Brooklyn in a package for Kevin Durant in 2022-23. Last season, Bridges averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.0 steals in 34.8 minutes across 82 appearances, all of which were starts. In New York, Bridges will likely start at one of the forward spots, especially if the team is unable to retain OG Anunoby in free agency. Bridges is one of the league's most effective three-and-D wings, has displayed impressive availability throughout his career, and has a good relationship with former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson, Donte DiVincenzo and Josh Hart.     • Woj: Nets trade Mikal Bridges to Knicks
      According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Nets are trading Mikal Bridges and a 2026 second-round pick to the Nets in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic and multiple future draft picks.

      Advice: Well, add another Villanova alum to the Knicks roster. Bridges is reportedly headed from Brooklyn to Manhattan in a deal that will cost the Knicks a significant amount of draft capital. In addition to Bogdanovic, the Nets will receive four unprotected firsts (2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031) from New York, another 2025 first via Milwaukee (top-4 protected), and an unprotected pick swap. Bridges’ fantasy value took a hit this season as the marquee offensive option, and he’s been at his best when able to play off of a star. How valuable he is will depend on whether or not the Knicks can also re-sign OG Anunoby.       The Celtics announced Tuesday that Porzingis (leg) will undergo surgery in the coming days, which will force him to miss the Olympics with Latvia.

      Advice: Surgery was inevitable, but Porzingis hoped to delay it until after the Olympics. More clarity on a timeline for the recovery process likely won't be known until after the procedure. He's coming off a terrific season with the Celtics, posting averages of 20.1 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.9 blocks and 1.9 three-pointers in the regular season.       Advice: The Redick era in Los Angeles is underway, with the former NBA guard having his introductory press conference on Monday. One of the interesting tidbits was Redick stating a desire for James to take more 3-pointers next season. He shot a career-best 41.0% from deep in 2023-24, and the average of 5.1 attempts per game was LeBron’s lowest since the 2017-18 season as a member of the Cavaliers (5.0).
