      Advice: There's a reason why people around the NBA call Irving "Mr. Fourth Quarter," and the star floor general has lived up to that nickname in Dallas' last two playoff wins. He scored 14 points in the final frame in Game 2 of the series, and he added 13 points while going 4-for-5 from the field in the final 12 minutes of Sunday's contest. Luka Doncic continues to lead the Mavericks offensively, but Irving is thriving when the team needs him the most and has been an outstanding second option on offense so far in these playoffs.       Advice: Dallas has the proven “closers” in this series, while Minnesota doesn’t. Irving scored 14 of his 33 points in the fourth quarter, combining with Luka Doncic to lead the Mavericks to a 3-0 series lead. Teams that have won the first three games of a best-of-7 series are 154-0 all-time, so it may be a matter of “when” the Mavericks reach the finals for the first time since 2011 instead of “if.” Also, Irving is 14-0 in his NBA postseason career in close-out games.       Advice: Reid had a chance to win it for the Timberwolves with the final shot of the fourth quarter, but his three-pointer bounced off the inside of the rim. The big man delivered an impressive performance and was Minnesota's offensive catalyst in a game during which the team's two biggest stars, Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, delivered subpar scoring performances.       Advice: With Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns again struggling, Reid was the Timberwolves player who upped his production in Game 2. The NBA Sixth Man of the Year hit seven of his first eight 3-point attempts and had a chance to save the Mavericks in the final seconds. Unfortunately for the Timberwolves, Reid’s final attempt rattled out, and they now head to Dallas in an 0-2 hole.       Advice: Irving had a tough night at the foul line, but that doesn’t erase the overall contributions. He was especially important during the moments when backcourt sidekick Luka Doncic was laboring through ankle and knee ailments. Irving and Doncic are the biggest reasons why Dallas returns home for Sunday’s Game 3 with a 2-0 series lead.       Advice: Even though Luka Doncic grabbed most of the headlines following an impressive performance in the series opener, there's no question Irving also played a pivotal role in the Mavericks' win. Irving has had a few subpar showings in the current postseason run, but he's scored 22 or more points in three of his last five appearances, so he seems to be peaking at the right time for a Dallas team that's only three wins away from a berth in the 2024 NBA Finals.       Advice: As has been the case throughout this season, Reid gave the Timberwolves solid production off the bench in Wednesday’s Game 1. Unfortunately for the Timberwolves, their bench outscoring the Mavericks reserves by a 28-14 margin didn’t mean much. Kyle Anderson added 11 points, two rebounds, two assists, and one 3-pointer in 17 minutes, shooting 5-of-8 from the field. While Reid and Rudy Gobert (12/7/1/1/2 in 38 minutes) recorded full stat lines, the struggles of Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards were too much to overcome.       Advice: Irving missed all three 3-point attempts in Wednesday’s series opener but was excellent in the paint. The Mavericks guard shot 8-of-13 in the paint, including 5-of-7 inside the restricted area. And after consistently getting off to slow starts during Dallas’ second-round series against Oklahoma City, Irving set the tone on Wednesday. He shot 11-of-14 from the field in the first half, scoring 24 of his 30 points.
