  • AP: Dion Waiters suspended for one game
Miami is suspending Dion Waiters for the season opener due to conduct detrimental to the team, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press.

Advice: President Pat Riley provided a statement for the suspension. "There were a number of unacceptable incidents this week, culminating with his unprofessional conduct on the bench last night. As a consequence, I feel we had to suspend him," Riley said. Waiters was openly upset about not starting, and this comes a day after Kendrick Nunn went off on Friday night for 40 points. Plus, Tyler Herro may have already leapfrogged him while Waiters was the 10th Heat player to get minutes last night, so it's fair to speculate that these factors resulted in this suspension. With this news, this bodes very well for Herro while Nunn may also warrant a pick in 14-team leagues to see how it shakes out. Duncan Robinson may also be in the rotation and is a candidate to start, too. 45 minutes ago

  • Caleb Martin gets partial deal with CHA
The Hornets agreed to a partially-guaranteed, three-year deal with Caleb Martin.

Advice: Caleb and Cody Martin will be twin brothers on the Hornets roster this season. It was fairly clear that Martin was going to get a roster spot after the Hornets moves today, but he's likely going to spend some time in the G League. Today, 4:43 pm
  • Chris Silva inks two-way deal with Miami Heat
Chris Silva has signed a two-way contract with the Miami Heat.

Advice: Silva played with the Heat in both Summer League and the preseason. He'll likely spend most of this season in the G-League. Today, 4:39 pm
  • Hornets waive two-way player Ahmed Hill
The Hornets have waived guard Ahmed Hill on Saturday.

Advice: Hill was signed to a two-way contract in early September, but the team ended up releasing him and giving that two-way to Caleb Martin, who performed much better in the preseason. Today, 4:24 pm
  • Wizards waive Anzejs Pasecniks, Jalen Jones
The Wizards have waived Anzejs Pasecniks and Jalen Jones.

Advice: Pasecniks and Jones will head to the Wizards' G-League affiliate. Today, 4:13 pm
  • Bucks release Jemerrio Jones, Tucker, Lacey
The Bucks have released Jemerrio Jones, Rayjon Tucker and Trevor Lacey.

Advice: Jones was signed and released on Saturday, which means he'll likely be headed to the Bucks' G-League affiliate. The same goes for Tucker and Lacey. Today, 4:10 pm
  • Allen Crabbe (knee rehab) out indefinitely
Allen Crabbe (right knee rehab) is unlikely to see the court until mid-to-late-November, according to coach Lloyd Pierce.

Advice: Pierce said that Crabbe's workouts are going well, but he won't return to competitive work on the court for at least a month. His return to game action will depend on how he responds once he gets back to practicing regularly. Crabbe remains off the fantasy radar right now. Today, 4:02 pm
  • John Henson (groin) unable to fully practice
John Henson (right groin strain) remains unable to fully practice with the Cavaliers.

Advice: Henson, expected to backup Tristan Thompson at center, is highly unlikely to be available for Cleveland's opener on Wednesday. The team currently has two open roster spots and will likely look to bring in another center with both Henson and Ante Zizic (foot) sidelined. Today, 3:49 pm
  • Cavs waive Jarell Martin, Marques Bolden
The Cavaliers have waived Jarell Martin and Marques Bolden.

Advice: Martin and Bolden will likely head to the G-League after their release. The Cavs currently have two open roster spots. Today, 3:46 pm
  • Nicolas Batum (Achilles) practices in full
Nicolas Batum (right Achilles soreness) practiced in full on Saturday, which could change the starting lineup for the Hornets on Wednesday.

Advice: Following Saturday's practice, coach James Borrego indicated that Batum may re-enter the starting unit for the season opener against the Bulls. Borrego is not yet ready to say that the starting five from the preseason finale -- Terry Rozier, Dwayne Bacon, Miles Bridges, PJ Washington and Cody Zeller -- will be the lineup come opening night. This is sort of surprising, since that starting group makes the most sense from a rebuilding perspective, but it's possible that Borrego wants to add Batum's ball-handling and experience to the first unit. A move to the bench would be quite disappointing for any of Bacon, Bridges or Washington. Today, 3:43 pm

  • Pelicans release Bess, Bigby-Williams, Adams
The Pelicans have released Javon Bess, Kavell Bigby-Williams and Jalen Adams.

Advice: All three players were long-shots to make the roster and will likely end up in the G-League. Today, 3:27 pm
  • Javonte Green likely earns final roster spot
Javonte Green has likely earned the final roster spot for the Celtics after the team waived Max Strus.

Advice: Strus had his two-way converted to a normal deal last week, but the team still decided to waive him in order to pave the way for Green to stick with the big club. Green is highly unlikely to have any fantasy value, though it's awesome to see him rewarded for an exceptional training camp and preseason. Today, 3:16 pm
  • Caleb Martin has deal converted to two-way
The Hornets have converted the contract of rookie Caleb Martin to a two-way deal.

Advice: Martin was one of the most surprising players this preseason, earning himself a two-way contract out of a partially-guaranteed camp invite. He had a much better preseason than his brother, Cody, who was drafted in the second round. Caleb is unlikely to have any fantasy value, but with the Hornets rebuilding, you never know. Today, 3:13 pm
  • Donte Grantham released by LA Clippers
Donte Grantham has been waived by the Clippers.

Advice: Grantham, who was on a two-way with the Thunder last year, spent training camp with the team and is likely headed to the G-League. Today, 3:09 pm
  • Warriors officially waive Alfonzo McKinnie
The Warriors have officially waived forward Alfonzo McKinnie.

Advice: McKinnie went from the presumptive starter at small forward to released in the span of about a month, largely because of the injuries the team has had in the frontcourt. The rest of the league will have 48 hours to make a claim for McKinnie. The Warriors also released Jared Cunningham and Nick Zeisloft. Today, 3:05 pm
  • Boston Celtics waive guard Max Strus
The Celtics have waived Max Strus, Kaiser Gates and Yante Maten.

Advice: Strus was originally signed to a two-way deal in July before signing a two-year contract to get on the 15-man roster last week. The Celtics likely just wanted to give him some money after changing their minds on his two-way deal, which ultimately went to Tacko Fall. Strus is now ineligible to play for Boston's G-League affiliate, but Gates and Maten still can. Today, 2:33 pm
  • Hassan Whiteside (ankle) limited in practice
Hassan Whiteside (sprained left ankle) was limited to the non-contact portion of practice on Saturday.

Advice: Whiteside aggravated an existing ankle injury in the second-to-last preseason game, which forced him to miss the preseason finale. He said that he will "for sure" be able to play in the opener, but we'll consider him questionable leading up to the game on Wednesday against the Nuggets. Today, 2:26 pm
  • Daryl Macon inks two-way deal with Heat
Daryl Macon has agreed to a two-way contract with the Miami Heat.

Advice: Macon didn't do much in the preseason for the Heat, but he had an outstanding season with the G-League's Texas Legends last year. He's not on the fantasy radar. Today, 2:16 pm
  • Miami Heat release four, including Davon Reed
The Heat have released Davon Reed, Kyle Alexander, Skyler Flatten and Bubu Palo.

Advice: Reed, formerly an early second-round pick two years ago, provided minimal impact in four preseason games. All four players will likely head to the G-League after the Heat cut down their roster to 14. Today, 2:12 pm
  • Chicago Bulls release guard Milton Doyle
The Bulls have released Milton Doyle, Justin Simon and Simisola Shittu.

Advice: All three players were camp invites and will likely head to the Bulls G-League affiliate to start the season. Chicago's roster now stands at 16. Today, 2:08 pm
  • Victor Oladipo (knee) does some 5-on-5 work
Victor Oladipo (right knee) participated in controlled 5-on-5 work in a halfcourt setting on Saturday for the first time since surgery early this year.

Advice: "I hadn't played in 9 1/2 months," Oladipo said after practice. "It felt good just being out there. Making a pass, shooting a jumper, shooting a floater, a layup, something. It feels good to be out there. Feels like I never left, honestly." Oladipo is taking it slow with his rehab process, but he's clearly in a really good spot. Coach Nate McMillan reiterated that the training staff continues to offer no timetable on a potential return, though it appears possible a late-November return isn't totally out of the question. Oladipo is someone to target around pick 100 in leagues with IR spots. Today, 2:05 pm
  • Hawks being extra cautious with Kevin Huerter
Kevin Huerter (right knee pain) missed the entire preseason and his status is uncertain for the season opener on Thursday against the Pistons.

Advice: "We're hoping, but it's a combination of things, it's not just him playing in a game. It's him being able to sustain it," coach Lloyd Pierce said "We couldn't get him going for preseason because of the setbacks which means we still are going to be extra cautious with his recovery." While it seems like Huerter's knee pain is minor, he still hasn't been able to shake it and get fully healthy. It's hard to suggest drafting him right now unless it's in a deeper league. Cam Reddish (hip) and DeAndre Bembry will see added minutes if Huerter continues to miss time. Today, 1:45 pm
  • Pau Gasol (foot) won't play in season opener
Pau Gasol (left foot rehab) will not play in the Blazers' season opener on Wednesday.

Advice: Gasol missed the entire preseason, though there was some hope he'd be able to suit up on opening night. His recovery from surgery to repair a stress fracture in his foot has gone slower than anticipated, which isn't great news for someone who is almost 40-years-old. Gasol could continue to miss time and isn't worth owning in fantasy hoops. Zach Collins will continue to operate as the team's backup center. Today, 1:10 pm
  • Raps ink Pascal Siakam to a 4-year extension
The Raptors have signed Pascal Siakam to a four-year, max contract extension.

Advice: One of the bright young stars in the game, and a player viewed as a franchise cornerstone, the Raps were not going to let Siakam walk away while they controlled his rights. This new deal will keep Siakam in Toronto through the end of the 2023-24 season. He will earn $130 million over the life of the four-year deal. It does not include any player or team options. Today, 11:16 am
  • Trae Young (back) sits out Saturday practice
Coach Lloyd Pierce said that Trae Young’s back was a little sore, and he did not practice Saturday.

Advice: Hopefully, this is just merely a precautionary rest day for Young. He's looked great in the preseason (except for turnover issues) and should be ready to rock for the season-opener next week. Today, 11:13 am
  • Grizzlies waive Ivan Rabb and Miles Plumlee
The Memphis Grizzlies are waiving forward Ivan Rabb and center Miles Plumlee.

Advice: The Grizz needed to get down to 15 players, so they part ways with bigs Rabb and Plumlee. Rabb appeared in 85 games for the Grizz over his two seasons in Memphis, averaging 5.7 points in 14.6 minutes per contest. Today, 11:08 am
  • Cavs consider claiming Alfonzo McKinnie
The Cavs have discussed the possibility of claiming Alfonzo McKinnie, according to Cleveland reporter Chris Fedor.

Advice: The Warriors waived McKinnie on Friday, in order to clear a roster spot for Marquese Chriss. McKinnie played well for Golden State last season and will have plenty of interest around the league. Today, 6:42 am
  • Dion Waiters is 10th man in rotation
Dion Waiters scored two points with two rebounds, one assist, one steal and two turnovers in 10 minutes against the Rockets on Friday.

Advice: He was the 10th man off the bench with both Kendrick Nunn and Tyler Herro possibly leapfrogging him. Waiters isn't worth drafting in most deep leagues. Yesterday, 8:03 pm
    New Player Note
    Dion Waiters Mia - SG,SF
  • Victor Oladipo to go through 5-on-5 soon
Coach Nate McMillan said Victor Oladipo (right knee) will be able to play 5-on-5 and half court in the next couple days.

Advice: This is a big step for Oladipo, who has reportedly been ahead of schedule for all of camp. The Pacers are still going to give him plenty of restrictions on his ramp up in activity, but this news makes it much more likely Oladipo could return before his initial December target. For IR leagues and weekly settings, it's not a bad idea to take Oladipo in the 75-125 range depending on league depth and competitiveness. For non-IR leagues in daily settings, it makes sense to wait until after 100 unless you're comfortable you can weather the storm for a month or so. Yesterday, 2:03 pm
  • Warriors to waive F Alfonzo McKinnie
Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting that the Warriors are waiving forward Alfonzo McKinnie, clearing the way for Marquese Chriss to make the regular-season roster.

Advice: McKinnie was a rotation regular for the Warriors last season, appearing in 72 games and making five starts. He averaged 4.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.6 treys. He will likely be scooped up by another team by next week. Yesterday, 9:25 am
  • Hassan Whiteside (left ankle) out Thursday
Hassan Whiteside (left ankle sprain) won't play vs. Denver on Thursday.

Advice: It's a bit ominous for Whiteside to enter the season with a left ankle injury he aggravated in Wednesday's exhibition. The good news is that he said it was just a tweak and wasn't as severe as the initial sprain that cost him about a week. Consider him questionable for Portland's opener on Oct. 23. Thursday, 12:44 pm
  • Kevin Huerter, Crabbe, Parsons out Thursday
Kevin Huerter (right knee pain), Allen Crabbe (right knee rehab) and Chandler Parsons (knees) will not play in Thursday's exhibition game against the Bulls.

Advice: The Hawks continue to list Huerter as out with "right knee pain," which suggests this is a minor issue, but it's concerning that he didn't play at all during the preseason. He was making progress but tweaked the knee again on Saturday, and it's currently unclear if he'll be ready for opening night. Thursday, 11:45 am
  • Nurse says Siakam could play PG with 2nd unit
Nick Nurse said that Pascal Siakam could play some point guard with some of the bench units.

Advice: Siakam can be a playmaker, but we wouldn't expect him to go prolonged stretches as the primary creator on the floor. Still, the fact that Nurse is toying with the idea of having Siakam run the offense at times is encouraging, and it sounds like his 3.1 dimes per game from last year will be going up this season. We're expecting a big year from Spicy P, and he makes for a solid, Round 3 target. Thursday, 10:16 am
  • Hassan Whiteside sprains left ankle Wednesday
Hassan Whiteside (left ankle sprain) won't return to Wednesday's game.

Advice: He stepped on Damian Lillard's foot in the second half and tweaked a pre-existing left ankle injury, but said afterward that it wasn't as bad as the initial sprain. He missed about five days the first time, and Portland may play it safe to prevent more setbacks. For now, we'll list him as day-to-day and consider him questionable for Portland's opener on Oct. 23. Wednesday, 7:53 pm
  • Trae Young goes for 23/5/9 line, 0 turnovers
Trae Young filled up the stat sheet in 34 minutes against the Knicks on Wednesday, scoring 23 points with five rebounds, nine assists, one steal, one block, one 3-pointer and no turnovers.

Advice: He's going to be putting up big point and dime double-doubles all year, and it helps that the Hawks poor defense will force them to play even faster. Young had some major turnover problems in the previous games this month, so coach Lloyd Pierce has to be happy with tonight after expressing concern earlier this month. It's a green light to draft Trae in the second round of nine-cat leagues and consider him in the late first for points and eight-cat formats. Wednesday, 7:44 pm
  • Kevin Huerter banged up again
Kevin Huerter (knee) tweaked his knee on Saturday that was a setback to hold him out on Monday.

Advice: That sounds troubling, but he did go through a workout after practice today. Huerter had a lot of buzz coming into camp, and this knee injury has caused him to slide to the last few rounds of a standard leagues. Considering his upside and how fast the Hawks will play, he's worth it to see if this knee problem is minor. Wednesday, 4:04 pm
  • Wizards waive Jemerrio Jones
The Wizards have waived G Jemerrio Jones.

Advice: Jones was acquired by the Wizards as the Lakers shed cap space to make room for Anthony Davis, but he failed to make an impact at camp and will now likely head to the G-League. Wednesday, 9:23 am
  • Anzejs Pasecniks agrees to deal with Wizards
Anzejs Pasecniks has reportedly agreed to a contract with the Wizards.

Advice: Pasecniks was originally drafted by Philly back in 2017, but he's familiar with the Wizards system, as he played for them at Summer League. It's unclear if this is a two-way deal or an Exhibit 10, but Pasecniks does have a shot of making the team given Washington's lack of depth behind Thomas Bryant with Ian Mahinmi (Achilles) already hurt. Wednesday, 9:10 am
  • Nicolas Batum (Achilles) out Wednesday
Nicolas Batum (right Achilles) will remain on the sidelines for Wednesday's preseason game against the Bulls.

Advice: Batum has only appeared in two preseason games due to the sore Achilles, but he should be ready for Charlotte's season opener. However, his stats have been headed in the wrong direction for three years running, and it's tough to see that improving during his age-31 season on a rebuilding team. Wednesday, 7:50 am
    New Player Note
    Nicolas Batum Cha - SG,SF
  • John Henson, Zizic ruled out for Tuesday
John Henson (groin) and Ante Zizic (foot) will not suit up for Tuesday's exhibition game against the Celtics.

Advice: Tristan Thompson (rest) is also unavailable for this one, and Kevin Love will be a minutes limit, so Jarell Martin will get the start at the five-spot and get all the run he can handle. Henson has yet to make his preseason debut and is not on the radar in fantasy hoops. Tuesday, 2:53 pm
  • Kevin Huerter, Crabbe, Parsons out Wednesday
Kevin Huerter (right knee), Allen Crabbe (knee) and Chandler Parsons (knees) have been ruled out for Wednesday's preseason game against the Knicks.

Advice: Huerter is simply dealing with some knee pain, so he should be able to get ready for opening night by resting up, although he's not the most attractive target in standard settings. Crabbe and Parsons are completely off the radar in most formats. Tuesday, 2:49 pm
  • Nicolas Batum (Achilles) ruled out Wednesday
Nicolas Batum (sore right Achilles) has been ruled out of Wednesday's game vs. the Pistons.

Advice: Batum has said the injury is "nothing serious" and that he expects to play in the regular season, but this is obviously concerning nonetheless. Bump him down on your draft board, as his upside isn't all that enticing even if he is fully healthy. Tuesday, 11:35 am
    New Player Note
    Nicolas Batum Cha - SG,SF
  • Trae Young scores 23 points vs. Miami
Trae Young had a strong showing on the offensive end in Monday's preseason game vs. Miami, scoring 23 points (7-of-17 FGs, 8-of-9 FTs) with five assists, four rebounds and one triple in 24 minutes.

Advice: The offense was a disaster when Young left the game, and it's pretty telling that he had a +/- of 0 in a 33-point loss. His defense is still an eye sore with Tyler Herro giving him the business tonight, but our only complaint about his impressive offense is that he needs to take better care of the ball -- he's averaging 7.6 turnovers through three preseason games. Monday, 7:27 pm
  • Pau Gasol (foot) questionable for opener
Pau Gasol (foot) will miss Portland's final two preseason games and it's unclear if he'll be ready for the 2019-20 regular-season opener.

Advice: Gasol missed all of training camp and is now set to sit out the entire preseason as he continues his rehab from the navicular bone stress fracture in his left foot. He's 39 years old, so the recovery may go a bit slower than anticipated. He's not worth drafting anywhere. Monday, 2:34 pm
  • Dion Waiters (personal) out Monday vs. ATL
Dion Waiters (personal) will not suit up for Monday's preseason game against the Hawks.

Advice: Waiters recently needed to go out of town to attend to a family matter, and while he's returned to South Florida, he won't be taking the floor tonight. Less Waiters means more Tyler Herro, so that should be fun. Monday, 2:19 pm
    New Player Note
    Dion Waiters Mia - SG,SF
  • Allen Crabbe (right knee) out again Sunday
Allen Crabbe (right knee) will not play on Sunday.

Advice: The expectation has always been that Crabbe would miss the preseason while rehabbing from right knee surgery. Missing training camp and the preseason hurts his integration with a youthful team that has multiple promising prospects on the wings, and we don't expect Crabbe to have more than occasional 3-point-specialist appeal. Sunday, 2:33 pm
  • Kevin Huerter (right knee) won't play vs. MIA
Kevin Huerter (right knee pain) will not play vs. the Heat on Monday.

Advice: Huerter's fantasy value was spoiled by inefficiency last year -- in 27.9 minutes per game over the final month, he shot 41.0% from the field and 50.0% from the free-throw line. He was 73.2% from the line on the season, only missed seven games, and should assume a bigger role as a scorer this year. There's reason to target him, but he may fare better in points leagues. Sunday, 2:24 pm
  • Nic Batum (Achilles) still not practicing
Nicolas Batum (sore right Achilles) still not back to practicing.

Advice: Batum is also very doubtful to play in Monday's game against Memphis. He's not expected to be out for long, but the youth movement in Charlotte is likely to sap any fantasy value that Batum once had. He's more of a deep-league guy at this point in his career. Sunday, 10:23 am
    New Player Note
    Nicolas Batum Cha - SG,SF
  • Max Strus signs two-year contract with Boston
Max Strus has signed a two-year deal with the Celtics.

Advice: Strus was previously signed to a two-way contract by the Celtics back in July. He's not on the fantasy radar. Sunday, 9:22 am
  • Dion Waiters impressing in preseason action
Dion Waiters had an impressive summer, getting his body in shape and working on a new shot profile.

Advice: "I would love for him to have that kind of menu, a lot of attacks and a lot of things in the paint and threes. That’s playing to Dion Waiters’ strengths," coach Erik Spoelstra said. "We’re really trying to cut back on those inefficient long twos, and he pretty much eliminated those from his game last year. So I like the idea of him expanding and doing both, and playing to his strengths." Waiters has only attempted two of his 20 shots from the mid-range in his first two preseason games. If he's able to become a more efficient player, it's possible he can become more than a late-round flier. Sunday, 6:42 am
    New Player Note
    Dion Waiters Mia - SG,SF
  • Pierce hoping Huerter (knee) will play Monday
Coach Lloyd Pierce said he’s "hoping" Kevin Huerter (knee) is ready to play Monday against the Heat.

Advice: Per Pierce, it will depend on how Huerter responds to treatment over the next couple of days. The good news is that he practiced with the team on Friday and Saturday. Thus, he is clearly headed in the right direction. Hopefully, he won't suffer any setbacks. Saturday, 11:11 am
  • Nurse thinks Pascal Siakam can add 5 PPG
Coach Nick Nurse said he thinks Pascal Siakam can increase his scoring average by five points per game in 2019-20.

Advice: Siakam boosted his scoring average to 16.9 points per contest last season, en route to winning the NBA's Most Improved Player award. His coach thinking that number may jump up to nearly 22 points a night is music to fantasy owners ears. Saturday, 8:02 am
  • Nic Batum not concerned with Achilles injury
Nicolas Batum (right Achilles) said his injury is nothing serious and he expects to play in the regular season.

Advice: He did some pre-game work on Friday, and mentioned it was an injury from Wednesday's game. This is not the same Achilles issue from last season, so it may not affect his playing time right away. However, the youth movement in Charlotte makes him a tough sell in 12-team leagues. Friday, 3:48 pm
    New Player Note
    Nicolas Batum Cha - SG,SF
  • Kevin Huerter (knee) practices on Friday
Kevin Huerter (knee) went through practice on Friday.

Advice: That's a big step in the right direction. Huerter still hasn't played in the preseason because of knee pain, so he may have a shot to get out there on Monday against the Heat. There was some buzz on Huerter just before camp started, so showing he's healthy could make him a strong target in the later rounds again. Friday, 12:20 pm
  • Nicolas Batum (Achilles) won't play Friday
Nicolas Batum (sore right Achilles) won't play vs. the Sixers on Friday.

Advice: Batum was an early exit from Wednesday's preseason game, and this is an ominous beginning to his 2019-20 campaign. There's no reason to think the injury is long-term, but Achilles soreness is nothing to take lightly, and he was already facing uncertainty as a veteran on a rebuilding team. Tread carefully in your drafts. If he does miss time, guys like Dwayne Bacon and Malik Monk will get a quick boost. Thursday, 12:02 pm
    New Player Note
    Nicolas Batum Cha - SG,SF
  • Nicolas Batum (Achilles) doesn't practice
Nicolas Batum (sore right Achilles) did not practice on Thursday.

Advice: Batum was held out of the second half of Wednesday's preseason game after experiencing soreness in his right Achilles, and it looks like the Hornets will be taking an ultra-cautious approach with him leading up to the regular-season. He's fallen off dramatically over the past few years, and we're skeptical of seeing much of a bounce-back during his age-31 season. Thursday, 10:30 am
    New Player Note
    Nicolas Batum Cha - SG,SF
  • Pascal Siakam scores 16 points w/ two steals
Pascal Siakam put up 16 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two triples, two steals and three turnovers across 22 minutes in Thursday's preseason loss to the Rockets.

Advice: Siakam has looked great in just 24.4 minutes per game through Toronto's first two preseason games in Tokyo, churning out averages of 20.0 points, 9.0 boards, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.5 swats per contest on 48.1% shooting, although he's also been averaging 4.0 turnovers a night. Siakam could see an uptick in turnovers as he's tasked with more playmaking responsibilities, but he should also see across-the-board improvement, making him an enticing, early-round target. Thursday, 6:09 am
  • Dion Waiters gets some PG minutes
Dion Waiters scored 19 points with four assists, one steal and four 3-pointers in 16 minutes against the Hornets on Wednesday.

Advice: He even saw some backup PG minutes in this game and was aggressive as usual. Waiters admitted he neglected his family on purpose this summer to get him into great shape, and he does look a step faster. Still, the decision making and lack of defense may end up being his undoing, so he's a last-round guy at best with Tyler Herro as his competition for minutes. Wednesday, 7:24 pm
    New Player Note
    Dion Waiters Mia - SG,SF
  • Nic Batum (Achilles) will not return vs. MIA
Nicolas Batum is out for the remainder of Wednesday's game vs. Miami with right Achilles soreness.

Advice: That's not good for the aging French wing, but this isn't to the same Achilles that kept him out later in the 2018-19 season. Still, this is a major concern for him as we get closer to the season, and it's very likely the Hornets will manage his minutes. If this is more than a day-to-day issue, Malik Monk will get his shot while Dwayne Bacon gets even more burn. Wednesday, 6:02 pm
    New Player Note
    Nicolas Batum Cha - SG,SF
  • Kevin Huerter will not play on Wednesday
Kevin Huerter (knee) will not play on Wednesday

Advice: He wasn't expected to play and he may miss most of the preseason action. The Hawks will start Trae Young, DeAndre Bembry, Cam Reddish, John Collins and Alex Len. Huerter does carry some risk, but he's going late enough in drafts that the upside outweighs the downside. Wednesday, 2:50 pm
