  • Derrick Rose in 'serious talks' w/ Cavaliers
Derrick Rose is in "serious talks" with the Cavaliers on a one-year deal according to ESPN.

Advice: Rose is the top free agent PG left on the market, but he's drawn very little interest so far. The Bucks were considered a potential suitor last week, but the two sides weren't able to schedule a meeting for reasons unknown. Rose would be an odd fit in Cleveland because they already have Kyrie Irving, but it's at least worth noting that Irving excels off the ball. In order to join the Cavs, Rose would have to take a discount because they can only offer a portion of the taxpayer midlevel exception (up to $2.5 million) or a veteran's minimum deal according to Jeff Zilgitt of USA Today. • Report: Shane Larkin's deal is guaranteed
Updating a previous report, Shane Larkin's deal with the Celtics is fully guaranteed for next season.

Advice: It's likely a deal for the minimum, as Larkin hasn't found much success at the NBA level yet -- he has career averages of 5.8 points and 3.2 assists with three different NBA teams. Expect him to open the season behind Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:58 am
  • Mavs, Wolves and Pacers interested in Rush
According to Darren Wolfson of ESPN, The Mavericks, Pacers and Heat have all expressed interest in Brandon Rush.

Advice: Rush is 32, but injuries have really derailed his career. Despite playing 21.9 minutes per game with the Wolves last season, he averaged just 4.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 0.9 treys. He likely won't have much fantasy value regardless of where he lands. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:54 am
  • Matt Costello to join Spurs on 2-way deal
Matt Costello will sign a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs.

Advice: This means he can spend up to 45 days in the NBA next season and the rest of his time with the Austin Spurs in the G-League. The 23-year-old PF went undrafted in 2016, but impressed at this year's Summer League with averages of 8.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:14 am
  • Shane Larkin agrees to deal w/ Boston
Shane Larkin has agreed to a deal to return to the NBA and join the Boston Celtics.

Advice: Assuming Marcus Smart plays a lot of SG to fill the void left by Avery Bradley, the Celtics do have a need for a third-string PG behind Isaiah Thomas and Terry Rozier. While this is likely a make-good deal, Larkin is leaving $6.3 million on the table to join the Celtics. He has career averages of 5.8 points and 3.2 assists with the Mavericks, Knicks and Nets, but he's only 24 and is coming off an excellent year in Spain where he averaged 13.6 points and 5.3 assists. To be clear, he won't have much fantasy value in Boston. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:22 am
  • Report: Rockets, Bobby Brown agree to deal
The Rockets and free agent G Bobby Brown have agreed to a deal, according to David Pick.

Advice: Brown returned to the NBA with Houston last season, averaging 4.9 minutes in 25 appearances. The 32-year-old guard will be fighting for a roster spot this offseason, but even if he makes the cut he won't have any fantasy appeal. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:35 pm
  • DeMarre Carroll excited he was traded
DeMarre Carroll said he was excited to get traded from the Raptors.

Advice: "It was like a rush of joy just ran through my body," Carroll said when he found out about the deal. Coach Kenny Atkinson was with Carroll in their Atlanta days and Carroll said Atkinson really helped him on cutting and playing on the move. "Me being in a system where the coach gets me and now I can do what I do, play defense and shoot the three ball, I feel like this is the best environment for me," Carroll added. The Nets are likely to go young and Carroll's knee injuries have held him back, so he's not the best fantasy target. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:52 pm
  • Suns name James Jones VP of basketball ops
The Suns named James Jones as the vice president of basketball operations.

Advice: The Suns created this new position for the 14-year veteran, who is now officially retired. Jones will help in evaluating younger players, working with general manager Ryan McDonough on trades, and also work with the coaching staff to help put the best team on the floor for the Suns. • Riley has made contract with Babbitt's agent
Pat Riley said he's been in contact with Luke Babbitt's agent.

Advice: "We’ve made contact with Luke’s agent," Riley said. "That’s a thought process we’re going to go through. We really like Luke and he can shoot the ball, so, it’s still open there." Despite starting 55 games for Miami last season, Babbitt was only able to muster up averages of 4.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.3 triples per contest on 40.2 percent shooting. Maybe he'll be able to snag a deal for the veteran's minimum, but he'll be a non-factor in fantasy hoops, regardless of his jersey. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:09 am
  • Wayne Ellington happy to remain in Miami
Wayne Ellington said it meant "a heckuva lot" to him that the Heat picked up his $6.3 million player option for the 2017-18 season.

Advice: "At the end of the season, Pat told me ‘I want to get better, but I want to get better with you,’" said Ellington. "It made me feel like he was going to do what he had to do to get our team better – which I feel like he did – but at the same time I was able to stay on board. I’m ecstatic about that." Ellington was able to get on the floor more than usual last year with due to a plethora of injuries in Miami's backcourt, but he might not be quite as involved next season if the guys like Josh Richardson, Tyler Johnson and Dion Waiters are able to stay healthy. • Watson impressed with Dragan Bender's growth
Earl Watson was particularly impressed with Dragan Bender's play during Summer League.

Advice: "I think we saw amazing growth from Bender," said Watson. "From the way he started to the way he finished, he was aggressive, making plays, getting to the rim, hitting threes and just being a playmaker." Aside from only connecting on 39.4 percent of his shots, Bender had a solid showing at Summer League with averages of 14.2 points, 6.0 boards and 2.4 dimes per contest. He's reportedly added 20 pounds to his frame and the Suns want to utilize him more at center next season, but he still doesn't necessarily have a clear path to minutes with the current construction of the roster. • Magic GM praises Jonathon Simmons
Magic President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman said he believes Jonathon Simmons can reach a "whole other level" in Orlando.

Advice: "Jonathon’s such a good defender, he’s such an aggressive player that that kind of captures your attention," Weltman said. "But Jonathon gets to the rim. He’s a capable passer, and I think his shooting has shown improvement. So at this stage of his career, he’s still a young guy." Simmons said the opportunity for a larger role drove him to Orlando, and while the Magic already have Evan Fournier, Terrence Ross and Jonathan Isaac on the wings, Simmons' ability to play multiple positions will help him see plenty of minutes. • Mario Chalmers agrees to deal with Grizzlies
Mario Chalmers will sign a one-year deal with Memphis according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Advice: The deal is only partially guaranteed for one year, so he's still not a lock to make the 15-man roster. Chalmers hasn't played in the NBA since tearing his Achilles back in March of 2016, but he's healthy again and it's nice to see him get another shot. He will battle Wade Baldwin for the backup PG role, so he won't have much fantasy value in Memphis. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 7:31 pm
  • Raptors make C.J. Miles signing official
The Raptors made the signing of C.J. Miles official on Tuesday.

Advice: Miles was acquired from Indiana in the Corey Joseph sign-and-trade deal, and his contract with Toronto is reportedly for three years at $25 million with a player option on Year-3. Miles will likely be competing with Norman Powell for a starters designation over the course of training camp, so that's a battle we'll be watching closely. However, even as a starter, Miles wouldn't be much more than a deep league, 3-point specialist in fantasy hoops. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 1:45 pm
  • Selden named to Summer League 2nd Team
Wayne Selden was named to the All-NBA Summer League Second Team.

Advice: The Grizz finished with a 5-1 record in Las Vegas and Selden averaged 22.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals in 30.5 minutes. It was a very encouraging showing for Selden. However, with Memphis signing both Tyreke Evans and Ben McLemore this summer, it will be difficult for Selden to secure consistent minutes next season. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 10:00 am
  • Kevin Seraphin's contract to be guaranteed
The Pacers are expected to guarantee Kevin Seraphin's full contract for the 2017-18 season.

Advice: Indiana has until August 1st to make its final decision, but GM Kevin Pritchard told reporters that the team currently has 14 guaranteed contracts, which means they have likely decided to hold on to Seraphin. He averaged 4.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 49 games for Pacers last season. He may see a slight increase in his playing time next season, but most likely not enough to warrant consideration in standard fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 7:57 am
  • Wayne Selden quiet in Grizzlies' defeat
Wayne Selden finished the Grizzlies' elimination loss on Sunday 5-of-13 from the field for 13 points with four assists, three turnovers and two steals in 22 minutes.

Advice: Selden added a block tonight and overall he looked terrific in Vegas, especially as a scorer, putting up 24.6 points in his first five games. Vince Carter is gone and Tony Allen isn't a lock to return in free agency, but it'll still be hard for Selden to make an impact with Tyreke Evans and Ben McLemore coming to town. • No meeting set between Rose and Bucks yet
Derrick Rose and the Bucks still haven't scheduled a meeting.

Advice: The meeting was supposed to happen this weekend, so it's not clear why it didn't go through. Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today said there's still mutual interest between the two sides, but maybe Rose is waiting for them to shed a contract or two so they can offer more money -- they are already over the tax and can only offer $5.2 million for next season. Hopefully we'll have some clarity by the end of the day. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 9:51 am
  • Wayne Selden scores 24 in win vs. Heat
Wayne Selden scored 24 points during a 98-95 win over the Heat on Saturday, adding five rebounds, four assists and three turnovers in 33 minutes.

Advice: It was a great quarterfinal game with the Grizzlies earning the victory in double-overtime. Assuming he does play on Sunday against the Blazers, Selden should end the Las Vegas Summer League with the most total points. Selden did have a minor left ankle tweak in this game, but he played through the injury and even made an and-one bucket off the injury. He's not a lock for the rotation, but he is certainly helping himself as one of the best players in Vegas this year. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 5:17 pm
  • Jonathon Simmons agrees to deal with Magic
Jonathon Simmons has agreed to a three-year, $20 million deal with the Magic.

Advice: The Spurs renounced his rights, so they aren't going to be able to match on this deal. The Magic do have some decent wing depth now that they've added Terrence Ross and should play Jonathan Isaac at the three on occasion, so Simmons is likely going to see minutes at the two and three behind Ross and Evan Fournier, respectively. This also probably isn't the best news for Mario Hezonja. This move has general manager John Hammond's fingerprints all over it as he looks to get some perimeter defense with Simmons in the mix. • Wayne Selden drops 33 points in win vs. PHX
Wayne Selden scored 33 points with four rebounds, two assists, one steal, three turnovers and three 3-pointers in a win over the Suns on Thursday.

Advice: He's been a top-five scorer in Vegas and continues to just get in the lane seemingly whenever he wants. Selden is going to have some more competition for minutes, but he looks like he'll have a chance to at least get in the rotation. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:17 pm
  • Dragan Bender scores 20 points in loss to MEM
Dragan Bender scored 20 points with seven rebounds, five assists, three turnovers and one 3-pointer against the Grizzlies on Thursday.

Advice: He had more freedom on offense than maybe ever. Bender was even bringing the ball up and had plenty of plays drawn up for him to create, so he wasn't just a stretch five like he was earlier in this event. This probably won't be happening too often in October, but Bender's growth compared to last July is clearly there. He'll be vying for minutes at three positions with the Suns, but he won't have too much fantasy value out of the gate. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 6:57 pm
  • ESPN: Bucks, Rose looking to schedule meeting
Derrick Rose and the Bucks are in "discussions to schedule a meeting" as early as this weekend, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.com.

Advice: When the date is set, the meeting is expected to be in Los Angeles. Rose and the Bucks have already met once, and this report adds that the toughest obstacle is compensation for Rose. The Bucks are already over the tax, so the most they could offer right now would be $5.2 million for the upcoming season. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 6:29 pm
  • Spurs still working to sign Jonathon Simmons
Despite withdrawing their qualifying offer to Jonathon Simmons, the Spurs are still working to complete a contract that would bring him back to San Antonio.

Advice: The Spurs renounced his rights, which means they are no longer able to match another team's offer, but San Antonio is still negotiating with Simmons and hopes to re-sign him. Simmons struggled on the offensive end in 2016-17 during the regular season, as his field goal percentage dropped from his rookie mark of 50.4 percent to 42.0, and his 3-point percentage dipped below 30 percent. However, he proved his worth in the postseason. Following an injury Kawhi Leonard, Simmons averaged 15.3 points in the WCF vs. the Warriors. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 10:18 am
  • Spurs renounce free agent Jonathon Simmons
The Spurs have renounced Jonathon Simmons, making him an unrestricted free agent. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:05 am
  • Dragan Bender scores 18 points w/ three 3s
Dragan Bender bounced back vs. Utah on Wednesday, hitting 6-of-13 FGs and 3-of-4 FTs to finish with 18 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block.

Advice: Bender was shooting 32.4 percent in Vegas prior to tonight's game, but he found his jumper and knocked down three triples. The two assists are a bit disappointing, though, as Earl Watson said he'd groom Bender as a 'point forward' in Vegas. Marquese Chriss was quiet with 13 points and two rebounds, while Mike James posted an impressive 18 points, seven assists and three boards in 32 minutes for Phoenix. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 7:09 pm
  • Jeremy Lin confident that Carroll will help
Jeremy Lin said that the Nets "desperately" needed someone like DeMarre Carroll.

Advice: "He can definitely shoot the [3-point shot] and he can definitely play defense, which we really, really need help with," Lin said. "And he can do more than that. But just veteran leadership, toughness, grit. I’m hoping he comes in and is a vocal leader. Those are some things that we need." Carroll was just a salary dump and Brooklyn received two drafts picks in return, but there's a chance he could get his career back on track with the Nets. Brooklyn head coach Kenny Atkinson was an assistant for Atlanta during Carroll's best years in the NBA, so maybe he can help get him going. Rotoworld.com Jul 10, 6:54 am
  • Wayne Selden scores 21 points in Vegas
Wayne Selden had a strong showing vs. the Kings in Las Vegas on Sunday, scoring 21 points (6-of-13 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs) with four assists, two rebounds, and three steals.

Advice: Selden was coming off a 28-point outburst on Saturday, but the obvious asterisk applies -- this is Summer League. Selden's fantasy role should be established well before typical fantasy drafts occur. Rotoworld.com Jul 9, 9:18 pm
