    • Declines player option Saturday
George declined his $48.7 million player option with the Clippers on Saturday, and he will now become an unrestricted free agent, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Advice: George declining his player option now takes any hope of a trade off the table for the Clippers. The All-Star will plan on meeting with several teams who have the cap space to sign him, the Clippers included. George was tasked with carrying the offensive load in the playoffs during Kawhi Leonard's (knee) absence last season, and the Clippers' refusal to extend him on a four-year maximum contract likely resulted in him becoming a free agent. The 34-year-old averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals across 33.8 minutes in 74 regular-season games. Moreover, George also averaged 47.1 percent from the field and 41.3 percent from three, both career highs for the 14-year veteran. Rotowire.com Today, 1:51 pm
    • Option picked up by club
The Rockets exercised Tate's (ankle) $7.57 million team option for 2024-25 on Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Advice: Houston's decision to retain Tate is somewhat surprising given that he looked to be a fringe rotation player toward the end of the 2023-24 season before he was shut down in April with a right ankle sprain. However, the 28-year-old brings value in his ability to defend multiple positions and is comfortable taking on a lower-usage role, which makes him an ideal fit next to higher-priority offensive options such as Fred VanVleet, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith and Alperen Sengun. He should be fully recovered from the ankle sprain well in advance of training camp -- if he's not healthy already -- and depending on what the complexion of the Houston roster looks like in the aftermath of the offseason, Tate could resurface as a more consistent part of head coach Ime Udoka's rotation. • Report: Pistons to waive Troy Brown Jr.
James Edwards III of The Athletic reports that the Pistons will waive Troy Brown Jr.

Advice: The Pistons faced a June 30 deadline to decide whether or not to guarantee Brown’s contract for next season. The decision to waive the 2018 first-round pick frees up approximately $4 million in cap space, and the decision to move on from Brown means even more playing time should be available to lottery pick Ron Holland. Brown appeared in 22 games for the Pistons after being acquired from Minnesota, averaging 4.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 0.7 steals in 19.0 minutes Rotoworld Today, 11:58 am
    • Cut loose by Detroit
The Pistons will waive Brown on Saturday, James L. Edwards III of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Brown's $4 million salary for the 2024-25 season would have become fully guaranteed if he remained on the roster by Sunday, and the Pistons weren't interested in keeping him around at that price. The 24-year-old forward has bounced around with five teams over the past four seasons and will now be seeking out a new home in free agency. After being acquired via trade with the Timberwolves in February, Brown averaged 4.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists across 19.0 minutes in 22 appearances for the Pistons. • Woj: ATL will not issue qual. offer to Saddiq Bey
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hawks will not issue a qualifying offer to Saddiq Bey, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Advice: Bey’s qualifying offer was worth $8 million, so the Hawks declining it is unsurprising given the current circumstances. Bey suffered a torn ACL in March and is facing a lengthy rehabilitation period. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent on June 30, and while a return to Atlanta is not off the table, the chances have decreased. Atlanta selected Zaccharie Risacher with the first overall pick and acquired Dyson Daniels in the trade that sent Dejounte Murray to New Orleans. Rotoworld Today, 9:58 am
    • Headed for free agency
The Hawks declined to extend Bey (knee) an $8.49 million qualifying offer Saturday, making him an unrestricted free agent, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Advice: Bey tore his ACL on March 10, cutting short what will end up being his final season with the Hawks, barring him re-signing with the club. Before suffering the injury, the 25-year-old forward appeared in 63 games and averaged 13.7 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.8 three-pointers, 1.5 assists and 0.8 steals across 32.7 minutes. Given the nature of his injury, Bey will be sidelined for the start of the 2024-25 and could miss most of the campaign, but even if he doesn't find a landing spot this summer, he should be able to find an opportunity once he's closer to full health. • Staying in Minnesota in 2024-25
Minott's $2.02 million contract for the 2024-25 season became fully guaranteed Friday, Dane Moore of 'The Dane Moore NBA Podcast' reports.

Advice: Minott has logged just 47 appearances with Minnesota through his first two seasons in the professional ranks, but he's posted impressive numbers with the G League's Iowa Wolves and is still viewed as a promising developmental piece for the organization. Though the Timberwolves are keeping him in the fold for the 2024-25 campaign, Minott may not be assured a larger role during the upcoming season. Reserves Kyle Anderson, Monte Morris and Jordan McLaughlin are the lone Timberwolves rotation players from this past season scheduled for free agency, and Minnesota may have already found their replacements in first-round draft picks Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon. • Shams: LeBron James intends to opt out of contract
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, LeBron James intends to opt out of the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent.

Advice: This news is unsurprising, even with the Lakers selecting LeBron’s son Bronny with the 55th overall pick in the NBA Draft. While James was due to make $51.4 million next season, this allows him to negotiate a new deal with the Lakers. Look for LeBron to remain in Los Angeles and play for new Lakers head coach JJ Redick next season. Rotoworld Today, 9:17 am
    • Declines option, should stay in L.A.
James declined his $51.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season Saturday and will become an unrestricted free agent, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Though he'll technically hit the open market, James is fully expected to re-sign with the Lakers on a new deal, especially after the club recently drafted his son, Bronny James, and hired his podcast partner, JJ Redick, as head coach. The terms of the 39-year-old James' upcoming deal with the Lakers aren't yet fully known, but it will likely include a no-trade clause. The four-time NBA champion defied the aging curve once again in 2023-24, appearing in 71 games -- his most since the 2017-18 season -- and averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, 7.3 rebounds, 2.1 three-pointers and 1.3 steals while shooting a career-best 41 percent from downtown last season.
