Player Notes

  • Josh Jackson scores 14 in 34 minutes
Josh Jackson made 5-of-18 from the field for 14 points with eight rebounds, three assists, one steal and three 3-pointers in 34 minutes off the bench against the Mavs on Thursday.

Advice: He was back on the bench with Trevor Ariza starting again, but he still saw big minutes and closed. Obviously the shooting line is brutal and he's one of the most inefficient players in the NBA because of missed shots and high turnovers, but the other counting stats are coming along. Jackson has mentioned he feels more comfortable as a ball-handler as he hits open guys, and he does seem to have his coach's confidence. If you have Jackson, ideally you're punting percentages or are in a points leagues. Yesterday, 10:28 pm
  • Jamal Crawford scores 17 points
Jamal Crawford scored 17 points with two rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block and two turnovers in 27 minutes against the Mavs on Thursday.

Advice: He looked 100 percent after missing the last two games as he ran the offense. The Suns had a rare win today, and that won't be happening too often going forward. Credit to the 38-year-old guard for still looking spry, but he's not really a pickup here. Yesterday, 10:22 pm
  • De'Anthony Melton doesn't score in start
De'Anthony Melton failed to score in 21 minutes against the Mavs on Thursday, adding one rebound, one assist, two blocks and three steals in the starting lineup.

Advice: The Suns went with more Jamal Crawford in the second half to cut into Melton's minutes. Coach Igor Kokoskov talked up Melton a lot earlier this week for his energy, defense and running the offense, so expect him to be closer to 30 minutes on Saturday against the Wolves. And hey, at least he had the defensive stats, and he's shown he can add non-scoring stuff in his young career. Most of his owners should stand pat. Yesterday, 10:18 pm
  • Trevor Ariza plays 37 minutes, scores 13
Trevor Ariza scored 13 points with eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and three 3-pointers in 37 minutes against the Mavs on Thursday.

Advice: He returned to action after missing the second half of a back-to-back set on Tuesday. By the time the Suns play their next game on Saturday, Ariza will officially be eligible for a trade, so the last-place Suns could sit him more frequently. If he's traded, he'll likely go to a lower-usage role, so he's not exactly the strongest hold in 12-team leagues. Yesterday, 10:14 pm
  • Wes Matthews scores 11 in 28 minutes
Wes Matthews scored 11 points with three rebounds and one 3-pointer in 30 minutes against the Suns on Thursday.

Advice: He did have some tape on his left shoulder after sustaining a minor injury on Wednesday -- he did return. Matthews was starting to get it going this month, but a lot of that was due to Dennis Smith Jr. not playing. Matthews could still be worth a hold in 12-team leagues, but he'll have his ups and downs.
