      Tyrese Maxey finished Thursday’s Game 3 win over the Knicks with 25 points (9-of-21 FGs, 4-of-4 FTs), four rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and three 3-pointers in 40 minutes.

      Advice: After scoring 33 and 35 points in the series’ first two games, Maxey did not shoot the ball as well in Game 3. However, the winner of the NBA’s Most Improved Player award managed turnovers better than he did in the two losses in New York. Maxey committed just one turnover in Game 3 after tallying seven in Games 1 (three) and two (four). Even if the field-goal percentage isn’t always where it should be, Maxey is talented enough to compensate for that with increased production in other areas.       Advice: Holmgren was expected to have a tough matchup while being guarded by Jonas Valanciunas, but the rookie has looked outstanding in his first two playoff contests, posting a double-double in Game 1 and delivering his best scoring output in more than a month in the second game of the series. Jones has scored in double digits in just four of his 12 appearances this month, and this 18-point output tied his best scoring mark since posting a 19-point effort against Miami on Feb. 23, so he's not expected to carry the Pelicans on offense in Game 3 on Saturday.       Advice: Holmgren improved upon his previous outing in his second-ever playoff game. He led all players in blocks and only Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored more points in the contest.       White tallied 13 points (5-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four assists, one rebound, one block and one steal over 36 minutes in Wednesday's 111-101 loss to Miami in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference first round.

      Advice: White provided a boost on the offensive end of the court for Boston in a losing effort, handing out a team-high-tying quartet of assists to go along with a pair of threes and concluding as one of three Celtics in double figures in scoring. White has pitched in nicely behind Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum in the first round, recording at least 13 points and four rebounds in both outings against Miami.     • Devin Booker leads Phoenix with 18 points Tuesday
      Devin Booker logged 42 minutes in Tuesday’s 105-93 loss to the Timberwolves, accumulating 20 points (6-of-13 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs), three rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer.

      Advice: Booker fouled out of Game 2, but the outcome was no longer in doubt at that point. He did lead the Suns in scoring, but, as was the case in the series opener on Saturday, efficiency was a problem. Booker committing six turnovers was more concerning than the field-goal percentage, with the Suns recording 19 as a team. Bradley Beal wasn’t much better, as he was responsible for four to go along with 14 points (6-of-17 FGs), four rebounds, six assists, and two 3-pointers in 42 minutes.       Maxey was named the 2023-24 Most Improved Player on Tuesday.

      Advice: Maxey enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2023-24 after taking over the lead ball-handler role due to the departure of James Harden from Philadelphia. Maxey was able to improve his season averages of 20.3 points, 3.5 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 steals in 33.6 minutes from 2022-23 to 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 37.5 minutes in 2023-24. While the 23-year-old's shooting splits decreased from 48.1/43.4/84.5 to 45.0/37.3/86.8, his jump as a playmaker and volume scorer helped him form one of the NBA's most dynamic duos alongside Joel Embiid.       Advice: There is no surprise here, as Maxey jumped from a solid supplementary option to a bonafide star in his fourth NBA season. Earning his first All-Star Game appearance, the 76ers guard averaged 25.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.5 blocks, and 3.0 3-pointers per game, shooting 45.0% from the field, 37.3% from three, and 86.8% from the foul line. Maxey is the second 76ers player to win the award, joining Dana Barros (1994-95). Chicago’s Coby White finished second in the voting, with Houston’s Alperen Sengun coming in third.
