    • Jalen Smith to decline $5.4 million player option
Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports that Jalen Smith will decline his $5.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season to enter free agency.

Advice: Smith enjoyed career-highs in FG% (59.2) and three-point percentage (42.4) in his fourth NBA season, and he should have no shortage of suitors given his ability to space the floor and block shots. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago
    • Chris Paul agrees to push back guarantee date
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Chris Paul has agreed to push back the date to guarantee his $30 million contract for the 2024-25 season.

Advice: Paul’s agreement to push back the date to the start of free agency (6:00 p.m ET on Sunday) gives Golden State the chance to explore potential trade routes for the veteran point guard. He’s in the autumn years of his career, but he can still be an end-of-bench fantasy option thanks in large part to his elite production in the assists category. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
    • Declines player option
Smith declined his $5.4 million player option for 2024-25 on Friday and will become an unrestricted free agent, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.

Advice: Smith saw an inconsistent role for the Pacers in 2023-24, averaging 9.9 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 17.2 minutes across 61 appearances, including 14 starts. However, the 23-year-old big man was largely left out of the team's rotation in the playoffs. Smith will now look to join a new team in free agency. Rotowire.com Today, 10:33 am
    • Contract guarantee date pushed back
Paul and the Warriors intend to move back the guarantee deadline on the point guard's contract to Sunday, the start of free agency, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Friday.

Advice: If the Warriors guaranteed Paul's contract for 2024-25, the veteran would earn $30 million next season. Golden State can't afford that price and doesn't want to lose Paul in free agency for nothing, while the point guard likely agreed to this so he'd get a say in where he's potentially traded. Wojnarowski relays that the Warriors are still exploring trades, but what type of market Paul has at this point in his career remains unclear. He averaged a career-low 9.2 points per game in 2023-24. • Team option picked up
The Pelicans are picking up Robinson-Earl's $2.2 million team option for 2024-25, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Friday.

Advice: After two campaigns in Oklahoma City, Robinson-Earl joined the Pelicans last season and made 39 appearances (one start). He averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game. Robinson-Earl will presumably be an end-of-bench frontcourt option again next season. Rotowire.com Today, 9:43 am
    • Sticks in New Orleans
The Pelicans are picking up Alvarado's $1.99 million team option for 2024-25, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Friday.

Advice: An undrafted point guard out of Georgia Tech, Alvarado has solidified himself as the Pelicans' top backup point guard over the last three seasons and will likely maintain that role next season. Last season, Alvarado averaged 7.1 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals in 18.4 minutes per game across 56 appearances. Rotowire.com Today, 9:39 am
    • Declining option, may re-sign
Okogie plans to decline his $2.95 million player option and enter unrestricted free agency, Michael Scotto of USA Today reported Friday, but the forward could re-sign with Phoenix for more than the veteran minimum, Gerald Bourguet of GoPHNX.com reports.

Advice: Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports reported Okogie planned to exercise his option and remain with the Suns, but Bourguet relays the Suns want to re-sign Okogie to a slightly larger deal. However, Phoenix's top priority this offseason is retaining Royce O'Neale. Okogie had a reduced role for Phoenix during the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 4.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 16.0 minutes across 60 appearances. The 25-year-old finished the season without a spot in former coach Frank Vogel's rotation, but Okogie could re-establish himself under new coach Mike Budenholzer if he does re-sign with Phoenix. • Traded to Dallas
The Pistons traded Grimes (knee) to the Mavericks on Friday in exchange for Tim Hardaway and three second-round picks, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Advice: Grimes was traded from New York to Detroit in February, but he made just six appearances with his new team after being shut down due to a right knee injury. Over 51 total appearances during the regular season last year, he averaged 7.0 points and 2.0 rebounds in 20.1 minutes per game. He'll attempt to carve out a role off the bench in Dallas after the team cleared some cap space by trading Hardaway. However, Grimes could struggle to be a consistent contributor for last year's Western Conference champions. Rotowire.com Today, 7:22 am
    • Tim Hardaway Jr. dealt to DET for picks, Grimes
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Tim Hardaway Jr. has been traded to the Detroit Pistons for three second-round picks and Quentin Grimes.

Advice: Fellow ESPN reporter Tim MacMahon notes that moving Hardaway Jr. clears up space needed to sign Derrick Jones Jr., which was a priority for the Mavs’ front office. Hardaway Jr. is unlikely to see a major shift in fantasy value with his new team. He’ll be a three-point specialist who offers little else in the box score. Grimes could be a rotational option in Dallas, but he’s off the radar outside the deepest of fantasy leagues. Rotoworld Today, 7:21 am
