Player Notes

  • Poor shooting display in Game 1
Russell amassed 13 points (6-20 FG, 1-9 3Pt), three rebounds, three assists and two steals across 41 minutes during Saturday's 114-103 loss to Denver in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Advice: The Lakers needed Russell to be at his best as a scoring threat, so his 6-for-20 outing from the field wasn't a pleasant sight for a Lakers team that cooled off as the game progressed. Russell ended with more field goal attempts than points scored, and he needs to bounce back ahead of Game 2 on Monday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:51 pm
  • Posts double-double in Game 1 win
Murray supplied 22 points (9-24 FG, 4-9 3Pt), six rebounds, 10 assists and one block over 39 minutes during Saturday's 114-103 victory over the Lakers in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Advice: Even though Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets in scoring, Murray was the main reason why the Nuggets put up a fight when things got complicated. The star floor general came through when Denver needed him the most in the first half, and he made a couple of plays that kept the Nuggets in the game when the Lakers were threatening to pull away for good. Murray should continue to have a pivotal role, both as a scorer and playmaker, in Game 2 of the series scheduled for Monday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:49 pm
  • Outstanding in win Saturday
Jokic closed with 32 points (15-23 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, seven assists and two steals over 39 minutes during Saturday's 114-103 victory over the Lakers in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Advice: The Nuggets endured a slow start, but Jokic was the architect behind the offensive revival in the second quarter, and his play down the stretch was simply unstoppable. Jokic ended just three assists away from a triple-double, and while he has a tough matchup in Anthony Davis, Jokic should continue to fill the stat sheet with absolute ease regardless of who he matches up against. • Sniffs triple-double in win
Gordon accumulated 12 points (5-11 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 11 rebounds and seven assists across 32 minutes during Saturday's 114-103 win over the Lakers in Game 1 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.

Advice: Gordon didn't do much in the first two quarters since he was dealing with foul trouble, but he stepped his game up in the second half and delivered a strong showing, ending just three assists away from a triple-double. The Nuggets will go as far as Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray can carry them, but Gordon's contributions on both ends of the court will be pivotal for the team's success. Gordon should continue to see favorable matchups in this series as long as he gets paired with Rui Hachimura. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:47 pm
  • Anthony Davis goes toe-to-toe w/ Jokic, LAL loses
Anthony Davis mustered 32 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and four blocks across 44 minutes Saturday in a 114-103 loss to the Nuggets.

Advice: Davis played phenomenally in last season’s Western Conference Finals against Denver, averaging 26.8 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.8 blocks in the four-game series loss. He kicked off that series with a 40 burger, and he came to play this year as well. Davis tied opposing big man Nikola Jokic for game lead in the scoring department, and AD paced all players on the glass. LeBron James posted a 27/6/8 line, but was mostly quiet in the second half, and it’s clear that Davis will have to be the best player on the court if the Lakers have any chance of advancing past this horrendous first-round matchup. Game 2 tips off on Monday back in Denver. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:09 pm
