Player Notes

  • Dennis Smith Jr. quiet in his return
Dennis Smith Jr. made 2-of-6 from the field for four points with eight rebounds, one assist, three steals, five turnovers and two fouls in 27 minutes against the Suns during a 99-89 loss on Thursday.

Advice: He returned after missing the last four games from a sprained right wrist. DSJ had his wrist taped up and he was moving a little slowly down the stretch, so he wasn't quite himself. The good news for Smith Jr. is that the Mavs are off until Sunday, so hopefully the couple days off can get him right. If he was dropped, he's worth an add to see if he can get it going. • Jalen Brunson scores 13 points off bench
Jalen Brunson scored 13 points with one rebound, one assist and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes off the bench against the Suns on Thursday.

Advice: Dennis Smith Jr. returned to action after missing four games, but J.J. Barea (ankle) is now back on the sidelines. Brunson has earned more playing time and he should be able to stick in the rotation while JJB is out. Still, he's not a great stat filler and he didn't close this game out, so Brunson is more of a stream or 16-team guy in fantasy leagues. Yesterday, 10:09 pm
  • Zach LaVine scores 23 points in loss to ORL
Zach LaVine scored 23 points with three rebounds, five assists, two steals and two 3-pointers in 40 minutes against the Magic during a 97-91 loss in Mexico City on Thursday.

Advice: The altitude didn't affect him much as he bounced back from consecutive games under 20 points. Jabari Parker getting out of the rotation is a good thing for LaVine, who has better scoring, dimes, treys and efficiency per minute when Parker is off the court compared to when he's on it. Whatever the case, LaVine should continue to flirt with scoring in the mid-20s as one of the better volume scorers in the league. Yesterday, 9:26 pm
  • Ryan Arcidiacono scores just five points
Ryan Arcidiacono scored five points with two rebounds, five assists, one steal and no turnovers in 23 minutes in the starting lineup against the Magic on Thursday.

Advice: Before the game, coach Jim Boylen said that Kris Dunn is going to eventually get the starting job back, so this could be the end of the Arcidiacono run in the first unit. He's carried some value in deep leagues, but it's time to drop him in most situations. Yesterday, 9:11 pm
  • Kris Dunn scores five in 26 minutes
Kris Dunn scored five points off the bench against the Magic on Thursday, adding four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 26 minutes.

Advice: Before the game, coach Jim Boylen said he was going to keep Dunn at 24-26 minutes, so he was right there. Boylen also said Dunn will eventually get the starting job back, so he's a good bet to start on Saturday against the Spurs. Dunn's upside won't be quite as high as last season, so expect him to be more of a top 75-100 player going forward with some peaks and valleys along the way. Yesterday, 9:08 pm
