      Advice: White embraced a bigger role on offense on a night when Jayson Tatum struggled (7-19 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), and the former responded by delivering his third consecutive game with 25 or more points. White has taken a step forward due to Kristaps Porzingis (calf) being sidelined, and it'd be fair to consider him Boston's third-best offensive weapon under the current lineup construction. White will aim to keep the streak alive in Game 2 on Thursday, as the Celtics have gone 20-3 this season when he's scored 20 or more points between the regular season and the playoffs.       Garland had 14 points (6-15 FG, 2-8 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and one steal over 36 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

      Advice: Garland is in line for a rough matchup in this series, as he'll have to deal with two excellent defenders in Jrue Holiday and Derrick White, so his Game 1 display is not entirely surprising. He didn't have his best performances in the first-round series against the Magic either, and he's averaging just 14.8 points and 5.4 assists per game through eight playoff appearances. In fact, Garland has failed to surpass the 15-point mark in six of his eight playoff outings, a clear downgrade after averaging 18.0 points per contest during the regular season.       Mitchell produced 33 points (12-25 FG, 4-11 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds, five assists and one steal across 37 minutes during Tuesday's 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

      Advice: Mitchell carried the momentum he had from his epic Game 7 performance against the Magic on Sunday and surpassed the 30-point mark once again. However, the rest of his teammates didn't step up, and the Cavaliers suffered a devastating 25-point loss in the series opener. Mitchell should continue to post excellent numbers as the Cavaliers' go-to player on offense -- by a wide margin -- but there's a chance his mighty performances might not translate into wins as it happened against the Magic in the previous round.       Advice: Gafford recorded a double-double in the loss, adding five blocks. It was arguably his best performance of the postseason and something the Mavericks are going to need more of should they hope to advance to the Conference Finals.       Daniel Gafford recorded a double-double on Tuesday with 16 points (5-of-12 FGs), 11 rebounds, one assist and five blocks against the Thunder.

      Advice: Gafford had a quiet first round series against the Clippers, but he was much better in the first game of this series. He recorded his first double-double of this postseason and swatted five shots, which was his highest block total in a game since March. Gafford has a better matchup in this series, and with Maxi Kleber sidelined for at least three weeks, he’ll continue to see extra minutes.       Derrick White lit up the Cavaliers with 25 points (9-of-16 FGs), one rebound, five assists and seven triples in Game 1 on Tuesday.

      Advice: White was solid in the first half of this game, but he caught fire in the third, scoring 14 of his 25 points in the period. White has been arguably the best player for the Celtics during this postseason, and this was his third straight game with at least 25 points. Boston is one of the deepest teams in the league, and White has stepped up with Kristaps Porzingis injured.     • Donovan Mitchell scores 33 points in blowout loss
      Donovan Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 33 points (12-of-25 FGs), six rebounds, five assists, one steal and four triples in a 120-95 loss to the Celtics in Game 1 on Tuesday.

      Advice: This was Mitchell’s third straight game with at least 30 points, but it didn’t end up mattering in the end. Mitchell did most of his scoring in the first quarter (14) and third quarter (16), but he didn’t add much in the second and fourth quarter, which lined up with Cleveland’s offensive struggles. Mitchell was able to provide plenty of offense, but he’ll need help if the Cavaliers want to pull off the upset in this series.     • Naz Reid blocks four shots, scores 14 in Game 2
      Naz Reid accumulated 14 points (5-of-14 FGs), five rebounds, one steal, four blocks, and four 3-pointers in 29 minutes in Monday’s 106-80 win over Denver.

      Advice: The Timberwolves are taking a 2-0 lead home to Minneapolis, winning Game 2 dominantly despite not having Rudy Gobert (personal). Reid wasn’t the choice to fill the void in the starting lineup (Kyle Anderson was), but that didn’t keep him from impacting the action defensively. The NBA Sixth Man of the Year blocked four shots while hitting four 3-pointers and tallying 14 points. And Reid wasn’t the only reserve to show off his shot-blocking abilities. Nickeil Alexander-Walker racked up three blocks while also tallying 14 points, six rebounds, one assist, and four 3-pointers in 30 minutes. Minnesota’s bench has been superior through two games, and that’s unlikely to change when the series shifts to Minneapolis for Game 3 on Friday. Rotoworld Monday, 9:40 pm

      Mitchell finished Sunday's 106-94 win over the Magic in Game 7 of the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with 39 points (11-27 FG, 2-8 3Pt, 15-17 FT), nine rebounds, five assists, one block and one steal across 45 minutes.

      Advice: The Cavaliers needed Mitchell to step up and deliver a superstar performance in Game 7 against a rising Orlando team, and that's exactly what he accomplished with this outing. Mitchell had some ups and downs in the series but often stepped his game up when the Cavaliers needed him, something that will be even more needed against the Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Mitchell averaged 28.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in the first round while putting up at least 28 points in each of the last three contests. Rotowire.com Monday, 5:36 am
